- Peavey Studio Pro 112 Red Stripe Amplifier Review
This is a review of my Peavey Studio Pro 112 guitar amplifier. This version of the studio pro is known as the "red stripe" edition because of the red lines on the front. These are arguably some of the best sounding versions of the amplifiers.

I just bought my first made in the USA Peavey today! I got the Studio Pro 112 and I love it! This channel rules and is the sole reason that I’ve got into these amps. Love your playing and thanks for the inspiration.
This was like getting another review on the PRS SE that I'm going to get as soon as Sweetwater get some back in stock. Love it
Hey man this is great. I picked one of these up out of pure nostalgia, and well the simple fact that you just can't find solid state like these anymore. These just seemed to be decades ahead of their time.
These amps RULE!!! I spent $150 for one used in ''04 and loved everything about it. Partial to the High Gain setting that could sound like its screaming at conversation level Used it on the Vintage Clean setiing with a Zoom 1010 for band practice and had the pre requisite Clean Crunch and Lead settings for all 4 banks for the covers we were doing. CoGuitarist offered his 1st gen CyberTwin for a price i couldn't refuse so the 112 stayed home. Wound up selling it after a move. Man, it even LOOKED cool.
Thanks for the demos. Good to see these amps getting their due. They're very cool units and can be found S/H all day for not much at all.
I used to run the silver and red stripe in a stereo set-up. I even made a foot switch so I could switch both amps at the same time. They were both made in China. Chinese production started during the silver stripe period for Studio Pros (so some early silver stripe Pros were US made). The silver had a warmer overdrive channel, whereas the red stripe had nicer, more sparkly cleans and a deeper reverb sound. They were both great amps and the OD is about as close to tube as you can get from solid state amps, especially on the silver stripe. I felt the red stripe didn't shift the air in the same way on the drive channel. Putting a Tubescreamer mid-hump pedal in front of the gain channel (on lower gain settings) sounds amazing -- your guitar just soars. The Blue Marvel is a nice speaker (it's an Eminence OEM unit). I spent a lot of $ trying different speakers and when I put the Marvels back in I realised how good they are.
As time went on I picked up other amps and had to make some choices but wouldn't hesitate to pick one of these or a Bandit up again if I was hard up for an amp.

Great combo! The PRS and Peavey really suit each other well
Great job Shane!!
I liked every thing you did.
I liked that modern mode on the lead channel too.
Amen!!!
I am impressed with both of the Studio 112's. And yeah, the modern mod on the studio sounds terrific.
This particular Peavey sounds good. I'm a fool for a sensibly priced amp; solid state or not. Sounds great with your new PRS.
Awesome demo Shane. I’m looking for a new amp and this one is definitely in the running. I really love the Modern mode on the clean channel.
Great stuff - the clean channel and high-gain mode on the dirty channel were great; found one of these used, and this video just sold it for the lucky seller.
What would you say is a good price for one of these?,,Someone is trying to sell one on a local marketplace here for 200,,,I've heard you can get them cheaper??
Great review Shane. I have the same amp and just discovered if you're on the clean channel; turn the volume on full and the t dynamics off you get tube like break up. Give it a go.
Does the t dynamic dial chabge the wattage of the amp?
Great stuff - keep on rocking
I own both a modern Chinese Bandit with a Texas Heat speaker and a red stripe Studio Pro with stock speaker. Both are GREAT, but, I prefer the studio pro to my bandit all day long for it’s shimmering spring reverb and gorgeous clean channel.
I am a bedroom player, I bought a Blackstar ID15 TVP, these are great once you’ve ditched the factory presets and loaded basic amps. The problem is although a great sounding amp for in doors, it doesn’t like pedals. After watching Shane’s video’s on the red stripe Bandit I decided to buy the red stripe pro as it is lighter, smaller and sounds good at low volume and works well with pedals.
They are really good value for money I picked mine up for £129 in mint condition. Small valve amps are nice, I own quite a few but finding that sweet spot is still too loud for indoors. I own a Bugera V5, anything above half volume the amp sound I can only describe as farty and distorted. I have run it through a 1x12 but still sounds the same, but the V5 does sound good with pedals, so must be something to do with the amp design.
The cheapest amp I have bought (except for a Blackstar Fly) is the Peavey Studio Pro and is my go to amp.
Nice tone Shane. Happy holidays mate. Cheers
That's so sweet sounding !!!
That high gain channel sounded really nice!
The amp sounds good but man that PRS. Guitar sounds great I'm so glad you got it . I use my PRS with a deluxe reissue and a zendrive and I keep the gain in almost all the way way low on this zendrive Drive ....great combination
Cheers mate! I’m a huge fan of the 90’s Transtube Peavey stuff. These amps are bulletproof, versatile and sound fantastic.
I would love to see a comparable review of the Studio Pro’s little brother, the Envoy. It’s a 1X10 configuration and maybe 30-40 Watts.
Adrian Coker I own an Envoy 110, they are 40 watts. I like the tones, especially the clean channel, but have had cabinet rattle issues at volumes that are not especially loud. I took out the plastic nameplate and replaced it with a weather proofing strip from Home Depit which helped somewhat.
I know this is an old video but I just picked up one of these at a garage sale for $40. It was dusty but after a good scrub with a rag and all purpose cleaner, it looks new. The reverb doesn’t work so I’m going to take the tank out and see what’s up, maybe the wiring needs attention but it sounds pretty good. I think a good overdrive pedal will liven it up and I will also build an amp tilt so it points up a little. Needs it. It has the footswitch and they threw in some cables. The lady said her husband tried to take up guitar 20 some years ago and didn’t really get the hang of it and it’s been sitting all these years in the attic. Nice score!
Really like the cleans on this amp and the hi gain is awesome. Too bad red stripe anything is priced very high on the used market here in Canada. Dang you Shane!
I gave this one a thumbs up because you at least showed the mic placement
Thanks for the demo Shane, I've just bought a second hand one here in the UK for £100 and loving it. Only really use Clean in Vintage Mode, and although I'm not in to driven sound but love the High Gain :-) Excellent amp and more neighbour friendlier than a Bandit. The Modern modes are a bit too muddy for me, much prefer the sparklier cleans of Vintage mode. Big Thumbs Up here.
My very first amp from the early 2000's :)
I blame you for my Studio Pro purchase man, they really rip. Only issue I have is that they don't seem to like low volume all that much, there's no presence until it's loud enough to piss off my wife. I had an Eminence Red White & Blues in it but it was such an efficient and neutral speaker that I couldn't even play it at home, so I put the old Blue Marvel back in. It sounds good reasonably quiet now, and I put the RWB in a homemade extension cab I can take along if I need extra volume from the amp.
Not to be cliche, but your channel and a few others have really goaded me into playing more and getting back into the local music scene after a long layoff, so thanks 🤘
Thanks for all the great videos and reviews over the years, Shane. Keep it up. Again, old thread but these amps are nearly indestructible and quite popular so people will keep coming back to it.
I picked the exact same amp being reviewed for about $75 USD, blown reverb tank like most (weak design and they're left exposed, most get rusty and dirty). I'm replacing with a MOD 3-spring about the same size. I think this is an amp that you have to turn up to get the sound... low volumes don't do it justice. I tried a tube screamer through the clean channel but am happy enough with using the dirty channel... different character though and really sounds good. Many people try changing speakers, but given how cheap these are and how decent the Blue Marvel is, there's really no point. If you don't like the sound, get a different amp. This is a FUN amp and is likely best used for jamming or small gigs, and is worth keeping just for the nostalgia.
Ok now you’re trying to get me in trouble with my wife!!!!! You can’t go wrong either Studio Pro. If I find a deal I’ll pick one up. Great Video!!!🎸🎸🤙🏾🤘🏽🤘🏽🤙🏾
I hear why they call it Studio Pro, it's a sound I like. And I like that the drive channel seams more controllable (if that make sense). What I had forgotten is the Studio Pro is MIC. I'd lean towards the Bandit 112 Red Stripe just for Made in the USA, but there is a price gap between the two.
Just bought one on Craiglist for $30, in mint conditions,
love it!
Once I managed to get hold of one of these I sold my Fender Mustang II digital. The analogue beats digital hands down for responsiveness and touch.
Sounds great
Merry Christmas Shane! Peavey makes the best "foundation" of an amp. Add some Pedals, or like I do - a Zoom G3Xon & you have a mighty combination that is highly versatile.
Pretty good. Modern ch too scooped and compressed. Hi-gain much better, more open, and has a lot more mids!
Great review! I love mine. Have you ever tried the smaller red stripe amps like the Peavey 110 EFX or 258 EFX? I'd be curious what you think of them.
damn dude that guitar sounds so good through this amp....
You finally got your hands on one. He he!! You must be cornering the market by now!! Since everyone is talking about PRS, I'm waiting for the Multifoil to arrive at a local music store. BTW' did you see the SE Chris Robertson with a humbucker and a P-90? Don't know who Robertson is but it sure looks interesting. I love P-90's.
Legal, muito bom video!!
Hi Shane- You minc me askin what year is this amp? Thanks for the demo! It's quite amazing how great these amps sound and look, compared to how the new ones look today. I have an 80's Studio Pro 40, which I upgraded the spring reverb for $18. That's all I've ever done to it & it's a great little amp. Merry Christmas!
Sean in rushden , these amps are that good in my opinion i bought two of them and sold my two 265 valvestate marshalls ... all you beginners out there get one of these amps and you wont need to swap and exchange later on find a red stripe n bite the bullet and get one .... keep on rockin👍😁
I have one a 2001 peavey made in the USA red strip and they are great amp for the buck and got my amp about 16 years ago the reason why this amp sound good is because of this blue marvel speaker was designed by Eminence Speakers they load them up from 1999 until 2002 then they started to make em overseas in china
Yep, about 26 hours until I can open my SE custom 24. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome stuff John. I just took mine out live and it was a lot of fun! :-)
very versatile amp!
yeah sounds great !!
Thanks for the great review. However, I wanted to hear if the studio pro breaks Up like the bandit on the clean channel while lowering the t. Dynamic knob?
Finally found one of these amps. Red stripe made in America. I got to say I like it a lot and Im a tube amp snob. Think Im gonna upgrade the speaker. Would you suggest that Texas heat for this amp like you did your Bandit?
hello I have this same amplifier. I have a question, the T-dinamycs potentiometer how to use it?
I have a Peavey Bandit Silver Striped transtube amp also. It sounded close to a Fender amp on the clean channel with bright switch on, treble around 5 or 6, mid 3 or 4, bass 4 or 5, master all the way, presence around 6 or 7, resonance button on for more low end & reverb 5 or 6.
I have had an issue about having a bass amp played close to my amps and it seems to mess up the sound. That bass amp seems to interfere with my amps' speaker(s) and the sound either turns muddy or flat with no bass & low end response, lifeless & crappy. I noticed that the farther that bass amp when played is, the better sound & response I get from my amps or when no bass is played then I get perfect electric guitar sound from my Peavey Bandit or Fender Red Knob "The Twin" 88' amp. Am I crazy or is there really speaker frequency interference going on as this bass amp is played closer to mine????!!!! With your experience, please let me know how to resolve this issue which frustrates me so much. Thanks. Noel
Wish you had compared this one with the Studio Pro *Silver Stripe* you sold. But hearing both demos, it seems they sound very similar. Biggest difference I think is on the "thrash" channel ("modern" in red stripe version). It sounds much better on the Silver Stripe.
Hey shane! Here in Brazil this is a bit cheaper than a Katana 50, im looking for a practice/teaching amp, so has to be somewhat easy to run around with it, any thoughts? Would really like any suggestions
Cool. Any Peavey Blazer or Envoy's around at sky to ad to the comparison. I love to see the Ultimate transtube shootout for kicks.
Hi Shane, can you please do a review/shootout using the current production
Bandit model?.....thanks
Got one for £60 delivered. Delighted. Can't go wrong with it, not a bad tone however you twiddle it.
Shane, you mentioned that the Silver Stripe SP was louder than the Red Stripe at the same volume settings. DO you remember if the T.Dynamics controls were at the same settings? If the Red Stripe T.Dynamics was set lower, that might do it.
Did you ever do a Red Stripe Studio Pro 112 vs Silver Stripe Studio Pro 112 comparison video? I don't see that on your channel. Maybe it's time...especially since I just picked up a Silver Stripe Studio Pro this morning(based on your review from three years ago)! I love it.
Found you by looking for PV solid state reviews. I've been looking for a PV amp for small club gigs.
Saw you're older 2015 bandit videos and really liked those.
These amps just rock..
I'm going to buy one soon..
I think I will go with the 2 x12 chorus peavey.
I do blues rock and some metal..
Thanks for the review..
Have u demoed the Katana 50? It's sipposed to be even better. I would love to see u review the Katana 50 by Boss.
Thanks again. I sub'd.
Regards from the Midwest USA.
Tim....
How does this one compare to the Bandit ?
I've just received this amp from my college for my gig on Monday because my other amps broke. Because it's a tube amp, it needs a warm-up. But that's my problem I have no clue how to put it on standby mode. I have also tried turning off all the knobs and waiting 30 minutes. I am still getting buzzing noises and no sound for my guitar. Can anyone come up with a solution please?
Does it have an attenuator/master vol control?
BTW - That PRS is growing on me. Love the sound & options, but not the color.
Hi Shane Nice vidéo i have Peavey blazer red strype15 w 50$ Brandt New clean IT IT work great
Hi Shane, great channel! This amp seems to suit my needs perfectly. I just read that it has no headphone output, which is essential for me. The Peavey Envoy 110 has it; I should only use this amp in a small room. Do you think it would sound similar to the studio pro 112? Thank you very much!
Yes!
I have the same amp. I noticed the one you have says designed in USA and made in China on the back. Mine says made In USA on the front panel and the back. Both amps look identical. Mine must be an earlier model? Paid 150. in Canada.
I am not familiar with all the versions, and I know they are differences.
I have always appreciated them for what they are. Workhorse amps.
What is the best version, you think?
Shane, what do you think of the new Peavey Transtube serious, compared to the old ones which you own?
I don't like the new amps as much. They are okay but they sound very different to these amps.
Will this work with a bass?
Is this the same Amp as a Bandit RED STRIPE?
How many watts does this have?
What's your signal chain ? amp>mic (sm57)>preamp ?> effects? Thank you Shane for the video. :-)
Guitar - Cable - Amplifier - 57 - Audio Interface.
Does anyone know what the chipset on the driver channel is? I heard it was the 808 chips like from the TS pedals, but I have forgotten where I got that info. I tried looking at the schematics but I couldn't understand it.
When I opened the head on the silver stripe one I saw it had a couple JRC chips that looked like they were from a Tubescreamer but one guy pointed out it might be something to do with the reverb. That said, there's two in there. I can't confirm exactly though sorry.
intheblues Thanks for the reply and even more for your videos.👍
How this differ to the bandit
Great sounding amp. Shane have you ever played a Peavey Classic 30 1x12? If not you should check one out awesome sounding amps that I think would be right up your alley
He's done a video on it already. It's an awesome video. He really jams in the intro on that video.
please dont take this as a rude comment, cos i really like your videos... BUT, the modern high gain is actually supposed to sound like a solid state amp, people like the late dimebag darell actually used solid state high gain amps to make that scooped mids tone.
Killer little amp, killer guitar and killer playing, excellent. On TK's live stream today did I notice a new poster?
Thanks mate. I have a Zombie post up at the moment. It's an old 70's Italian horror movie. :-)
yeah I'm familiar with that one, I just thought I saw a red poster where the Zombie poster is but it may have been the camera distorting the colour.
Are you up trying to catch Santa?
i ve got one on ebay for £80 awesome :D and i was lucky it was made US :D
Not long until I get my epiphone les Paul tribute plus
Jamie Chillingworth I just got one. Fantastic guitar. Even my tech said so.
CentaurusRelax314 yeah I've got it now and it's brilliant
Jamie Chillingworth Sweet. Which color? Also, if you got it Used, check that the previous owner didn't take out the original Gibson Classic 57 pickups. They sell for $200.... I paid only $375 for the guitar, mint.
CentaurusRelax314 I got it in midnight sapphire and don't worry it's brand new
So you’re saying the Silver stripe goes to “11”? 😆
LOL, at the time of my comment there were 112 of them.
Well, the cat is out of the bag on these and the Bandit amps. They're selling for $175-$200 or more. Good used Katana's can be had for about the same money.
I was able to get a made on USA 112 EFX at an estate sale for $130. I put an Eminence Legend in it.
Peavey transtube or boss katana? Anyone?
I prefer Peavey Transtube all the way. They're pure analog, with a very warm, full and natural sound.
I prefer it over any digital modern amp.
Happy Christmas Shane what did you ask Santa for
Not a Mustang gt200 lol
I'm hoping to get a set of wireless headphones or something similar I can take to the gym. :-) Merry Christmas to you too mate, thanks.
Please tell me that your red stipe s pro is china made .
Got mine today anyhow .
It is made in China. 😎🎸
intheblues yeeeeh ! What a great news 😁
Thank you for your reply
IMO this puts a blackstar 40 to shame, at a lower price point to boot.
Modern Drive is highly mid scooped
Sorry. That amp does not compress like a tube amp. The overdrive on the amp is unpleasing and hard on the edges.
It sounds nasty on one of the distortion settings but I like two out of the three. It's all personal taste.
intheblues absolutely 👍
depends how the t dynamics are set
Loud? where do you gig, stadiums of 1m attendents? out of 10 channels i researched this amp on, you are the only one to say that the clean channel isn't loud enough for gigging. So 9 out of 10 that say this amp is perfect for studio, practice and gigs, this says to me that you are someone that only uses an amp head fed into a 1000w P.A. system thats fed into stadium speakers, because you want to be heard miles away. the preemise of a band is for everyone to blend equally, yet be distinguished enough so each instrument can be defined. That is, until it's solo time.
So I'm sorry to say, but your review is nt an honest review, but a bias review
