    Peavey for the cleans and orange for the distortion but to me the peavey had alot more clarity and crispy, punchy bite than the orange. This was a good demo. Thank you

    I think it’s all about taste. I have seen albums totally recorded digitally but live the band uses tube amps. And the other way around. With all the good digital amps, modeling software, etc. I don’t see a problem with any of them. It’s all about building a tone that is your and having a great time with it.

    • @brianflanagan3654

      well said.... i hate when people act like only tube amps sound good. Today's SS amps are nothing like the little Gorilla amp i had back in the day. You just have to learn how to set the amp up for optimal sound.... just tilting an amp up 2 -3 inches changes what you hear.

      @@danpugatch for me the BD2 when dialed in adds the right amount of crunch for blues on the clean channel. I can then use my vol on the guitar to dig in a bit deeper for extra bite.

      I think the Crush series has the best clean sound of any SS amp I've heard, outside of a Quilter. Very alive and, without that muffled sound most modeling amps have. The only ones that sound that open & alive to me are Peavey's Trans-Tube amps, but I just like the sound of the Crush better. I don't even like the Crush gain channel for some reason! But the cleans I love.

      No dude, totally with you. The clean tones on the 35 are absolutely immaculate. It’s an absolutely fantastic pedal platform as well. If anything, sometimes I feel like I have a harder time getting into the dirty channel. There’s definitely a time and a place for that beautifully slightly out of control orange sound, but I have to say after this video, I’m thinking about picking up one of those Peavey studio pro 112s. Really love the high gain on it.

    I’m a fan of both brands when it comes to analog solid state amps. I believe it just comes down to a players choice of what music styles they play. I prefer the Orange, because I play mostly modern blues and classic hard rock to early metal. If your style covers mostly clean to slight breakup, then the Peavey might be the way to go. Both amps are great within their respective voicings. Both are built like tanks and are probably as dependable as you could purchase. Great review!

    I've got the Orange Crush 20RT. It's enough for what I do right now, though I'm thinking about getting a 35RT. I've always used solid state amps. I truly get the appeal and superiority of tube amps, but the solid state amps I've used in the past have held up well to the tube amp the second guitarist of whatever band I was in was using. Had a Crate mini stack that I absolutely loved (and wish I still had) and a full stack in the 90s. Great amps! But anything Orange releases seems to just be absolutely awesome.

      I had the 35RT it was too loud for me at home. I ended up returning it and getting the 20RT. The 35 did sound better I assume speaker size was the cause. But for playing solo at home or with my son on bass its good enough.

    I think the Peavey sounded more HI-FI geared having crispier tones, while the Orange is clearly built having a mid boost which makes it sound creamier. They're both great amps. If I played cleans and/or 80s metal/rock type music I'd get the Peavey hands down. If I played blues and classic rock then the Orange would be the clear winner. I'd like to see a Peavey Express go up against the Studio Pro. Great demo Shane!

They are versatile. What I have noticed, at home with my own set up and in your video, is the Orange almost sound "Blown" if you will. I'm playing my Epiphone Les Paul in the bridge position. I have thought that my Les Paul has a muddy sound and that's the reason I tried the orange amplifiers out. Your thoughts?

    I Like both on their own - really depends on what tone - music your after , i always prefer 12 inch over 10 inch speakers .My experience with Orange amps ; they have "compressed" organic - soft cleans and "British" overdrive - gain sound that fits best with P90 - single coil pickup guitars . The peavey sounds more "American" - maybe "fendery" to me - and thanks for the 12 inch speaker and larger cab size it has a much fuller tone . The Orange with 10 inch speaker is a great practice amp for home use .

  • @TonyHookedonVanlife
    @TonyHookedonVanlife 6 років тому +6

    The Peavey sounded more open, most likely due the different speaker & cab size. The Orange sounded great for a 10" equipped amp... the drive had some definite fuzz characteristics when cranked, which would be perfect for the stoner rock-doom crowd, with whom Orange gear is wildly popular(and of which I am a proud member).

      Right here with your brother. 🤘🏻🛸🤘🏻 I honestly love both the orange and the PV. I own the Krush 35 RT, and I love it. The clean tones are immaculate, it’s an amazing pedal platform, and I dig the high gain tones as well, but sometimes I find I’m not always looking for that slightly out of control super dense orange tone. It definitely has a lot of sizzle to it. I dig it, just not for everything. This Peavey might be the answer to that question though. Both great amplifiers. But yes. The high gain on the crush definitely verges on calling fourth the master caterpillar. I will also say though, that for whatever reason the orange in this video sounds very muffled in terms of clean tone. Great video, but this is definitely not an accurate representation of what the cleans sound like on the crush.

  • @noi5emaker
    @noi5emaker 6 років тому +4

    Clean tones, I liked them both, but Peavey may have the edge as it's a bit clearer. Was the treble lower on the Orange? The lower gain settings on the Orange seemed better behaved and probably more usable. It's always easier to tell how dirt would be if you're actually playing it - you know your attack and how you're playing. I like the sheer character of the Orange. But the higher gain on the Peavey is more usable. So, in all, I'm going to begrudgingly vote for the Peavey.
    By the way ,great playing and fun video!

  • @ArielsSmartyPants
    @ArielsSmartyPants 6 років тому +2

    The Orange is a little midrange heavy but I think you could have evened it up with some knob fiddling and maybe a touch of reverb would have helped as well. I liked the or-15 so much I sold all my other amps for it and a 2x12 cb cab.

  • @EasyHeat
    @EasyHeat 6 років тому +7

    Sounds awesome Shane. I love Orange, but I gotta give this one to the Peavey. People scoff at SS amps, but I have a vintage Marshall lead 15 mini stack that sounds amazing in a recording mix. It's definitely more of a "feel" thing than anything else. Transistors and FETs are more than capable of some sweet tones when used properly, and any unnecessary "fizz" can be dialed out if you know what you are doing with a parametric EQ.
    Great vid man!

    I have a 20RT (20 watts, 8 inch speaker)...great clean channel tone with the tone knobs and volume dimed out using the guitar volume and tone knobs (strat) to adjust things. However, the "dirty" channel should be called the "nasty" channel. I can't imagine how it could be useful.
    This is a GREAT amp if you want a clean sound. The digital reverb is fairly good, the on board tuner is pretty good too. The sound quality of this amp when run clean is definitely gig worthy if a whole lot of volume isn't required. Everyday price: $189. Fantastic value, IMO.

    I have quite a collection of amps from Tubes (Trace Elliot Bonneville), solid state (Peavey Blazer 158, Marshall MG30FX , Ibanez etc.), hybrids (VOX VT15E, VOX VT30), moddeling amps( Behringer V-ampire LX110, Line6 Spider IV 75 Watt). In general no matter what amp-type the speaker and cabinet size make a lot of difference. Maybe that explains the more open tone of the Bandit. The orange had a great sweet and mellow sound clean but it sounded a bit boxed in. I am curious how it would sound plugged into the speaker of the Studio. As it is stands now I wouild go for the Peavey Studio but both are great amps. I picked up a Peavey Bandit 112 red stripe yesterday as well as a Peavey Transformer 212 red stripe at a steal.

    Loving the visual effects!!🤣🤣 The Studio Pro 112 sounds a bit clearer on the clean channel than the Orange. I do like the dirty channel on the Orange so all being fair, you can’t go wrong with either amp,it’s just a matter of the tone you want to get. Rocking video Shane!!🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🎸🤙🏾🎸🤘🏾

    Shane, try tuning your low E string while fretting the 3rd fret (G note) and the A string while fretting the 3rd (C note). It sounds a lot better than tuning them open imo. You might like it better too.

      Totally thought I was being dick thinking it as out of tune I know you are saying to try tunning type but it seems like the guitar is out of turn period

    I prefer the *Peavey* all the way. More pleasant, warm, natural and definition in its sound. *Orange* sounds too "fuzzy" and a bit digital for my taste.

    Peavey bandit 15 watt was my very first amp and it was the same fro t layout with the vertical toggle switch for clean/lead. It was actually a great amp and I think it was a 1x8 15 watt SS , of course over the years I upgraded, had fender twins and Marshall jcm 900s, nowadays I only own 2 guitar amps , a Marshall mg100hdfx w/ 1960b cab and the orange 35rt same as this model with black tolex. This review did not do the orange justice I’m afraid, it sounds much better in person and if you tweak the eq it is a lovely amp on clean and dirty channel.

    Peavey for cleans, as it is clearer. However I think that I would choose the orange for dirt as the peavey is kind of fizzy sounding to me at least.

    For me the orange was better at the British rock sound. For clean and metal, high gain the Peavy just was in a different league. The orange sounds muffled and the British sound coarse but good. The Peavy can't do that breakup sound. But otherwise it's clarity and tighter. Maybe a tad harsh on the bright on clean.
    Very different amps and suit different players.
    I don't like the sound of orange amps personally but I do like what they are trying to do. Kudos to them for that.

    Cool stuff! One thing....the Orange 'voice of the world' speaker needs to be broken in. It doesn't happen overnight, but once it is...oh yeah!

    My Peavey Bandit sounded good at bedroom levels. But when I needed it to really crank in a hot trio live it crapped out on me and lost all tone. Can't say about the Orange but most solid state amps really sound worse the louder you run them. Unless you run tons of on board soild state distortion buy that's not where I'm at.

    I have an Orange 20rt and a Peavy rage 158. I prefer the Orange, because the peavy needs to be turned up a bit to get it to sound good and the orange sounds the same on every volume level. Just my opinion.

    Peavey comes across in the video as being more "live" - and is sure to cut through a mix in a band setting if you are playing lead. The Orange would be a good rhythm guitar amp.

  • @sid35gb

    The 35rt is a great practice amp. But if you want to gig get the Orange Cr60 or Cr120 12” speakers exactly the same circuits as the rockerverb but the tubes have been replaced with op amps making them cheaper but sounding just amazing 😉
    As for the Pevey it’s proven amp but doesn’t look as good as the Orange 🍊 so basically pick the one you like the look of. For me that would be the Orange 🍊 old AC/DC tones are nice. But if I was stranded on a dessert island and the Pevey was the only amp I had it wouldn’t be any hardship.

    Orange, to me almost always has too much on the lower mid's and creates a darkness and feeling of clarity loss and range limitation that i just don't go for. For heavier tones and some single coil no problem, but to play clean and humbucker's, nope. The Peavey Bandit's, to me have a ton of high mids and high's that ring and excite my ears. No different in this video. Thank's Shane.

    I owned a peavey red stripe bandit. I own a fender deluxe 112. I play a guild jetstar. A taylor t5 and a epiphone firebird. The guild sounds amazing on the orange. Easier to get a good sound out of than my 112. My epiphone firebird and taylor sound great on my fender mustang 3. One thing i really like about the orange is by pulling back the mids and bass i get a wonderful blues tone with my guild. The orange is very loud for its size. And i don't bneed a boost pedal for my guild. Trial and error make for great tone. I gave my fender 112 to my son. I prefer the orange and the mustang. The point is playing with tones on guitars and amps is a gateway to discovery. My blues go to rig is my guild and my orange 35 rt. Easy tone. Great clean sound.
