POLO REACTS Amazing fact: Maynard doesn't even hear the songs until all the instrumental tracks are finished and ready. Only then will he listen and add the vocal track(s). Imagine the band playing these songs without Maynard singing them. That's how they get written. Maynard comes last, like a cherry on the top 🍒
He said he receives a rough draft mostly tho, sometimes barely a song sometimes a nearly complete song. But it sounded like he creates his part and then they work together to make it all fit perfectly, he doesn't just throw vocals on top of the finished music track.

This is the reason I've always preferred minimalist bands -- The Police, Hendrix, Cream, Morphine, Jeff Beck, Black Keys. They leave empty space scattered throughout the music, which enhances the definition of each voice. I love old Lynyrd Skynerd, but mother of god, nine lead guitars, was it? Eleven?
The reason why Tool doesn’t have 10 - 20 different albums is because they perfect their craft and refuse to give us anything less then their best, everything is carefully thought of and excruciated to create a masterpiece with every album, they are the most consistent and are the greatest artists in the world because of these things
When they play this live, for the beginning part, they all sit in a semicircle and they each have a guitar they play until about when Danny starts in with the drums. It's weird seeing them all in close proximity because they all have their spots they don't venture far from normally. It's almost like an intimate acoustic type performance.

First few minutes of this song to me, is haunting. I listened to this numerous times while sitting next to my brother in the hospital during his last days. He lost his battle with Cancer.
I visited Jerome, AZ a few months ago and from the vistas you get from where Maynard lives, you can see how he can get his mind to a place where he can write those incredible lyrics.
One of my best concert moments is when they all come front stage and sit for this song! The confetti falls and all is well in the world. Fucking glorious. Tool army forever❤
This was indescribable when they performed this live. Four Maestro's sitting together interweaving each one's artistic vision. The glitter confetti that softly fluttered to the floor of the Arena was an amazing aesthetic as the arena lights bounced off of the foil. I was fortunate enough to gather about eight pieces, four of which formed some sort of puzzle.

I was blessed to watch the very first performance of this last year at the Golden One arena in Sacramento. I'm still trying to process everything I experienced in that moment. Watching all of them come forward on the stage and play acoustic guitars with Maynard's magical voice was beyond all I could have imagined! I've been a fan since 1992, the concert was number 1 on my bucket list. Took me 30 years, but I made it.....a second concert is now number 1 on my bucket list. Amazing, magical, and wonderful in every way possible.
Danny is certainly not sitting on his hands. He’s actually playing guitar along with Adam and Justin as well. He leaves the circle and gets behind the kit at about the same time Justin starts up on the bass. Absolutely phenomenal done live.
I never felt the need to pay to see a band live in concert before tool. No music has moved me so much and they immediately became my favorite band of all time and I saw them the first chance I got in March of last year, first concert and all that. Spared no expense to see them and it was unbelievable. Still can’t even process it to be honest 😅 I love this band and when you said you would go see them live, i felt that because I said the exact same thing with that same confidence because damn. Tool, man.
best way to enjoy Tool in your car - get in the car. close the door. turn the grudge on (most other Tool songs will do). turn it up to maximum. smoke 'em if you've got 'em, sit back, close your eyes. enjoy the journey. (note: car does not leave garage)
Saw them play this live for the first time ever January 2022 in Sacramento. It was so special to see them all sitting together at the front of the stage. Even Danny played the guitar until his drumming part came in. It was awesome!
I stumbled onto your channel today, lured by the Frank Zappa "Montana" listen. I've been a sporadic fan since his Phi Zappa Crappa poster was popular in 1969. Because he went over to the Wierd Side early, we tend to forget his foundational place in the history of music. I'm kind of an outlier Tool fan, too. I'm a 74 year old retired physician, graduated high school in the Summer of Love, 1967. I was there for the toddler years of rock and roll, although I missed the birth --- Ike Turner / Rocket 88, Link Wray / Rumble. After the phenomenal 1978 crop of new bands and new releases, we imperceptibly began the Long Slide into the Sea of Drek that is modern music. Morphine was a brief respite, until Mark Sandman took performance art to the extreme and died onstage. My son, who's 33, alerts me to the few luminous exceptions on the musical landscape, and Tool was one of them. As a former musician myself I get caught up in the emergent phenomena that arise from their edgy but accessable polyrhythms and ear-snaring use of unconventional instruments. Karnivool gives me a similar buzz, maybe slightly less bleeding edge creatively but more rhythmically engaging. 80% of King Crimson's work is still relevant for much the same reason. If you're not familiar with these last two, your Tool addiction suggests you might want to take a listen. I'm rambling, too. I like your site, like your taste, have subscribed. If the quality of your choices holds up, I'll go to Patreon.
Keep going man, you are giving real Tool fans a treat. You can only experience Tool for the first time once so your reactions take us back to those moments.
Most tool songs hypnotize you slowly, before you know it you're deep inside and then it's gets hard and back to slow and hard again. Rollercoaster of gratefulness.
I remember first listening to the Fear Innoculum cd on my 1.5 hr drive home from work. I literally had to pull over 3x and pause it to take a walk and stretch my legs and gather myself. I struggled through Chocolate Chip Trip but once 7empest came on I realized I was going 85 mph and was only issued a warning when the cops got me. I am being 100% honest that I was more pissed that I had to pause the song than get a ticket/warning haha. I told the cop what I was listening to and he actually laughed and said for me to wait to go home and use headphones. I love this world we live in at times
Went to this tour last year. During this song, confetti fell from the rafters. And if you picked up the confetti and pieced it together, there were two or three different posters. People looked at me like I was crazy, running around picking up the confetti off the ground. Lol.
Polo: I think what you're trying to articulate (I find myself struggling to properly explain the awesome, at regular intervals) can be thoughtfully realized by watching one of Adam's performances. The guy barely moves when he plays, I swear. He takes economy of motion to a whole other realm. He always does so much, with so little, and always seems to care the most about serving the song, and would never care to be flashy, unless that 3 second excerpt of the song called for it. Fricking genius!
Another guitar player that doesnt move, he just sits in a chair off to the side, is Daryl Hance. He played guitar for a Southern Swamp Rock band, JJ Grey & Mofro and in this video of the song "War" he sits off to the left of singer JJ Grey. ua-cam.com/video/K_tIo18Tl1w/v-deo.html
It was incredible seeing them play this live all four members came to the front of the stage and they all played strings Danny was playing a mandolin and then proceeds to his kit
The way this piece lands in the album sets it off even more. If you ever have the time to listen to these albums start to finish after you hear them all once definitely do it. Its like watching a movie in your mind.
This is actually one of my favorite Tool songs. Because I feel like I can relate to it on so many levels. It’s basically about an inter-monologue. Most people have one, but some choose to keep it inside and some choose to actually vocally express the enter monologue. However, other people when they observe this, they automatically think that oh this person is crazy or a psycho when in fact, the reality is the opposite. And all this is based on psychological studies which suggest that all serial killers has an inter-monologue that is vocally expressed however, this is a myth. Because the psychological studies have been twisted over the years and changed to fit peoples needs and personalities..
The fact that you have not only enjoyed this band so much to listen to this degree, without monetization, but also seen such a huge flux of support and listeners is a testament to their greatness. Tool very likely is the greatest band ever tbh lol. Simply put their just isn't anyone like them, and their arrangement and talents are on another level, every single one of them. Prince had this kind of talent and genius, he was one person. There are other great bands, with great individuals, and sometimes great unity and artistry on a track, or a few. Tool is all of those instances coming together at once at the highest levels on like every song lol. I am so happy you have made enough of these to create a playlist I can't wait to enjoy with you and everyone finding them with you. Music of the highest form and everyone who loves music should definitely be listening to Tool and A Perfect Circle regurlarly.
Polo, Tool concerts are incredible. As you know every song sends you on a journey, and what better way to enhance that journey by amazing visuals effects. Pink Floyd shows were famous for their laser light shows set to their music. Tool puts their spin on the same live show experience philosophy. I’ve seen Tool 6 times and they get better every single time. The one show I will spend $$$ to witness their craft. Another great note about Tool, they don’t allow photos during the show, so no phones up disrupting the experience for anyone. On the last 1-2 songs they give permissions to take photos because people are social media zombies.
Love your dive into Tool man, so cool to watch. My personal favorite band ever. You have to check out Schism sometime soon Edit: I'm 28 now and I discovered Tool through guitar hero 3 when i was about 13 and have been hooked ever since, and that song was Schism.
Fear Inoculum is the pinnacle of Tool’s brilliance. This is their greatest work to date. Not to say previous Tool wasn’t equally brilliant, but the maturation of this work speaks to all of us who have experienced and witnessed the juggernaut that is global, corporate Capitalism…..and what it’s left in its wake. A call to arms, if you will. A plead for us to step back and think about what is transpiring.

definitely my favorite on Fear Inoculum, it is such a culmination of everything the have ever done, loud music mixing with the quiet and some attempt to put it all together, and they nailed this as a crystal example of all they do. \mm/
I had the pleasure of seeing them live , in Vegas where I live. Danny actually sat in front playing guitar 🎸 with Adam.. they all sat in chairs up front. It was so amazing to watch .. I suggest looking for a video of them doing it Live , I love your honest reactions ! And am discovering new music because of your channel!!
I don't believe I've seen you do a reaction to "Prison Sex" by Tool. It's almost 30 years old but also is part of the catalyst that led them to their unique sound. They, truly, are their own genre. Like many, though, I think you'll find their earlier songs more aggressive. And since I am commenting, the song "H." is my favorite. You should definitely react to that. It slightly embodies what they would become as a band in their later years in in my opinion
Thats an outstanding way of describing and complimenting Adam’s playing. When you said he plays simply but powerfully. Its not actually simple BUT i think thats some of the highest praise you can give to any artist. When they can communicate something powerful by saying as little as possible, thats the business 👌
The songs on this album are incredible, I know. But if you ever get the chance to hear them live: they reach a whole new level. It’s indescribable For this song in particular, because it has multiple guitar lines during the intro, the band all gathers on stools at the front of the stage plays together there, with Danny on a guitar. It’s pretty fucking cool
yes sir exactly. for some reason i wasn't into Pneuma that much when the album came out, but then I saw it live and still haven't picked my jaw up off the floor.
Technically this may not be the best off this album but sonically its by far my favorite. Love everything about it especially Maynard's vocals and Adam's guitar. Keep pumping them out Polo - great job.
Just a point from a part time guitarist, but your comment on Adam is so true. I can play his entire catalog and it all feels so simple to play but it sounds sooooo amazing. Hardest part of this song is the intro. Its an amazing piece.
I had a conversation with a guy back in like 1996 about Tool vs NIN. I was a huge NIN fan and believed the years would show. Well, Trent Reznor has since gotten Grammys, Oscars, and even CMT awards. He's incredible with his musical impressions, but around 2001-2 Perfect Circle turned me onto Tool. 10,000 Days is by far one of my favorite albums (still behind Downward Spiral). Maynard has such an amazing voice, and their guitars and lyrics are beyond reproach. But, the cyclic nature of NIN music still holds me.
Danny said that Tool should be announcing a Fall tour soon. You have to go. Like, it's a must. And try to get up close. Whatever amount of money you pay will be worth it.
The intro of this song, at least live, everyone but Maynard is playing guitar. You can start to hear the song change as they go back to their respective instruments.

@@fucazombie yes yes yes!!!! I still have some confetti saved in my life's journal! So magical!!!
I was at that show also...... it was the........ 4th time? I've seen them? Great stuff.
Danny is certainly not sitting on his hands. He’s actually playing guitar along with Adam and Justin as well. He leaves the circle and gets behind the kit at about the same time Justin starts up on the bass. Absolutely phenomenal done live.
Haha, I love how you pre-air-horned, based on the obvious trajectory. Don DeMarco!!
I'm with you on this
This is a hypnotic masterpiece for real ..awesome build up
I love all the tracks on this album but when I heard this song for the first time, I instantly fell in love with it. Maynard’s vocals are amazing!
Seen TOOL live 3 times! Best concerts I’ve ever been to.
And have seen a lot of great bands!
Thanks polo, Check out Jambi next, hit that 2013 live dvd version, as good as the album version and you get to see Adams do his thing.
Saw them play this live for the first time ever January 2022 in Sacramento. It was so special to see them all sitting together at the front of the stage. Even Danny played the guitar until his drumming part came in. It was awesome!
Your description of Tool is Spot on.. I know exactly what you mean
Awesome reactions mate! Can't believe you have not done ThirdEye yet. Do Third Eye . You wont be disappointed
When this song is played live, all 4 of them come down to the front of the stage and grab guitars and start playing.
You will gonna like this song, my friend POLO.... ENJOY IT!!!
Polo . James cone here.listen to Eulogy. If you have the time. Thank you for your honest take and view on my favorite band.
He’s crazy underatted
Keep going man, you are giving real Tool fans a treat. You can only experience Tool for the first time once so your reactions take us back to those moments.
Just saw TOOL live a couple of weeks ago, and this was my favorite song from their whole set. It was incredible.
Life changing
Danny is playing the rhythm guitar at the beginning
It was incredible seeing them play this live all four members came to the front of the stage and they all played strings Danny was playing a mandolin and then proceeds to his kit
Danny actually plays the guitar riff in the begining when played live! then hops begins the drums right before his part starts
Great job!! keep checking them of the list. Next you should do is H, Swamp Song and Opiate
The door stopper comment! LOL. That just killed me. Love it.
I've love tool since opiate and undertow, but since watching your videos, you've reawakened my appreciation for their artistry. Thank you!
The only thing better than than tool in a large venue is puscifer in a small venue like the Bob Hope theater in Stockton
@@trevorsimmons7395 Better? How can that be?
Danny plays guitar for this intro live, pretty cool! This Tool song gets hardstuck in my head like no other, I’m sure you’ll find out too haha
The way this piece lands in the album sets it off even more. If you ever have the time to listen to these albums start to finish after you hear them all once definitely do it. Its like watching a movie in your mind.
I love TOOLsday! Keep it up my friend!
Look forward to your Tool reactions... "SCHISM" next! Please, it's a must!
Oh my god I forgot he hasn’t done Schism. This is crazy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you become a fan just like the rest of us! I can't wait till you see them live... 🥰
You don't need a period after "songs" and before "because."
However,* this is a myth because...
NOOOOO IDEA how m7ch I needed this, tonight. Haven't even started the song yet, but.... Thank You!!!
Love your dive into Tool man, so cool to watch. My personal favorite band ever. You have to check out Schism sometime soon
Edit: I'm 28 now and I discovered Tool through guitar hero 3 when i was about 13 and have been hooked ever since, and that song was Schism.
What should I check out next? Please like the video on your way out and check out my Patreon here www.patreon.com/poloreacts
Jambi or Jimmy
@@dametalmonster both are amazing. I say “Jambi” simply bc it makes me think of my own son and lyrics hit hard “Damn my eyes if they should compromise the fulcrum” mmmmm
Please do Jambi!!!!!!
Also "H" and "Opiate"
Or 46 and 2
I’m 68 and I love music that moves me. I love watching all your reactions and I’ve downloaded all of tools albums on my Spotify. Danny Carry is a rare drummer in that he’s such an accomplished percussionist. He’s not just banging the drums to bang them.
"Such a chill track." Not for long!😂
definitely my favorite on Fear Inoculum, it is such a culmination of everything the have ever done, loud music mixing with the quiet and some attempt to put it all together, and they nailed this as a crystal example of all they do. \mm/
Adam puts it where it belongs, they all do. That's why their music works the way that it does.
In 30+ years, they have released just 51 songs. You've reacted to more than half now!
This is my personal faVE TRACK ON THE CD!
In concert they are all sitting in chairs playing guitars. Then they go back to their spots when it kicks in. It was awesome.
During the live show Danny is playing one of the guitars up front with them then goes back to the drums
Prison sex is a very deep intense song. I dig it! H too. I just heard H for the 1st time recently. Gold, pure gold. All the way. 😎
Thats an outstanding way of describing and complimenting Adam’s playing. When you said he plays simply but powerfully. Its not actually simple BUT i think thats some of the highest praise you can give to any artist. When they can communicate something powerful by saying as little as possible, thats the business 👌
Duuuuude when he said "What's Dany doing?" I was like oh ye of little faith don't worry about the GOAT. IT'S COMING! Let the man cook!
Great song. Love the tone of Adams guitar in this. Thanks POLO for another cool video and have a great day sir.
Awesome reaction, Polo! I love how much you have fallen in love with Tool. You need to react to "Schism" and "H." You will love both!
Most underrated Tool Song
Incredible ..tune.absolute masterpiece..
I'm gonna see your live reaction from Lisbon, PORTUGAL. Keep doing it....... you rule!
Love hearing your reactions to Tool.
You rock homie! Tool is good stuff
Went from “not surprised dudes wearing his boxers and a bra on stage it’s metal,” to “my favorite band.” Welcome to the TOOL Army! 🎉
The songs on this album are incredible, I know. But if you ever get the chance to hear them live: they reach a whole new level. It’s indescribable
For this song in particular, because it has multiple guitar lines during the intro, the band all gathers on stools at the front of the stage plays together there, with Danny on a guitar. It’s pretty fucking cool
yes sir exactly. for some reason i wasn't into Pneuma that much when the album came out, but then I saw it live and still haven't picked my jaw up off the floor.
Before I even get to watching the reaction. Gotta say that I love the new background brother.🤩
Where can I get the stick dancer in the back ground 🤔
