Can confirm, Danny comes out and plays the second guitar part live. They all sit in chairs in a semi circle in front of the drums. Danny puts the guitar down and goes to play the drums after the first verse
I saw them alive recently in Canada... And they play with 3 guitars at the begging of the song. Adam, Dany and Chancelor all of them are playing a guitar.
Hey John ! Great to have you back on the TOOL journey. This one is kind of special. The "ugly duckling" of Fear Inoculum. Unfairly so. It's a grower. With a powerful buildup. Maynard is put under the spotlight here whereas as you probably know already he is usually considered like another instrument within the band. He is the one shining here. They don't play this song live. At least this is what I've seen so far. Indeed Adam plays 3 different guitar tracks on this one on the studio version. So doing it live perfectly like the studio version would be difficult. Except if he uses a looper as you suggested but didn't see that live as of today. He doesn't use a capo. On the D string, he plays on the 16th fret and on the G string, he plays on the 11th fret for the continuing melody from the start of the song. He alternates between those two to create this cool melody. This song is probably the evidence that proves how mature TOOL got over the years and since 10,000 Days. This whole album is sweating maturity for me (I don't know why some people don't see how TOOL evolved and transitioned into another dimension).
Yes, Adam uses a looper. It’s cool watching him play live - sometimes you can see him pre-playing things in advance etc. He’s definitely a master of his instruments.
@@sabarafilmes I never said Culling Voices has been performed live (although I couldn’t confirm if it has - I haven’t seen or heard it live). Adam has used a Boss PS looper and BF 2/3 hardware for lots of his effects. I’ve seen Tool live multiple times. The last one was Memphis before Covid stopped the FI tour. Prior to that I caught them in Nashville. Prior to that it was… a long list. If I’m interpreting what I’m seeing him do inaccurately, I apologize.
Dude I like how you approach the listening, like keeping relatively still but I can literally feel there are bright colored explosions going on in your head and soul :-)
This has fast become one of my favourite songs on FI - it's an absolutely epic album, this one grew on me REALLY quickly and I absolutely love it now. This beautiful haunting melody throughout the first half of it, then the band is unleashed at the end. Pure brilliance. Really love watching your reaction too bro! Fully immersing yourself in it, totally feeling it - I react very similar to music like this... just losing yourself in it.
I saw them play this live in Vegas last month. They start by all sitting on chairs at the center of the stage, with Danny playing guitar. He then walks back to his drums later. It was so cool to see them jam together like that.
They played this when I saw them last month and they played the beginning with all 4 of them sitting on chairs and 3 of them (not Maynard) were all playing guitars and then they peeled away to drums and bass as song progressed. Amazing
Ps. There are two bands for me, that exist in each their solar system in a universe all to their own. Tool and Pink Floyd. Masterpiece after masterpiece after masterpiece and a lot of great songs in between.
Around 12:24 of your video, i felt like I could see all instruments, including vocals, lining up one behind another in unison. I get the visuals reference.
I'm so hoping I'm gonna find The Pot and Right On Two on this playlist as well and I'm gonna watch your reaction to another fav of mine Invincible right after this one. Welcome to the family also known as the Tool Army. :-)
I know we have been exploring complex themes with their later work..but I would like you to check out an under underrated track from the early days...hush. lowkey one of the best drumming songs ever.
Amazing reaction, lately my fav off of fear inoculum but you know how it goes... tool songs are alive so tomorrow I might say something else. I love your channel. More tool reviews please. Fantastic work, you're fantastic!
Interesting reference to MDB. They come from my home area and have met them, seem them live over many years; one of the Peaceville 3 (along with Paradise Lost and Anathema). They did make some amazing songs, very atmospheric.

🤯 This is the 1st time, for me, when I watched a reaction and didn’t want the reactor to Go back to the track🤦🏼 the effortless breakdown of everything Tool offered 🤯
JW, I'm loving your reactions to this album. I've revisited some of your FI reactions a number of times. I love this album. You seem to too. Like myself you seem to be 'transported'.
Loving the Tool reactions. Completely unrelated, but there is an American band that recently broke up, called "Minus the Bear", and their guitarist uses 4 DL4 delay/looper pedals and comes up with some amazing riffs/ideas. If you're interested their song "Knights" is a great start.
this song is amazing and a masterpiece in itself.. dude you must analyze the “Lateralus” album. Now that is a journey. I think most people say that is their best album and I agree
I think with the last few tool albums, it's best to seperate the tracks and not blast through them all in the first sitting, I find the mind figuring things on first listen can exhaust. Same with Meshuggah. Then once exposed the full albums are more enjoyable to experience start to finish. It's a lot to take in.
Nope they haven’t. Pneuma FI and Invincible every show, descending sprinkled in from time to time, and they had just started with 7empest live when all hell broke loose
Yeah I strongly suspect this was one of the Ænima songs that didn't make the cut. Have you heard Merkaba off their Salival album yet? It's similar to CCT
Ur a good player etc. But it seems a bit dream theater ish, and I'm not a fan,DT.just seems that they try to make it complicated on purpose 🤔 where as Tool doesn't because there all great unique players, do like ur reactions though

Just found out that Danny Carey sometimes
plays the 2nd guitar on the first half of culling voices live 😱
he does it live

Watching you hold the headphones close to your ears while you nod your head to the rhythm of the song. It's exactly how I listen to Tool music
14:03 Exactly!, no words needed, one of my favourite Tool tracks ever!!!
Hauntingly beautiful ....Maynard's vocals are mesmerizing
This is definitely up there with Disposition/Reflection as my all time favorites.
This track is so underrated
Yeah I posted on his Descending vid how I was excited for this one. It’s a sleeper for sure that people rarely ever mention.
One of their most underrated songs. Maybe right behind Flood.
When I first heard this album, this song was my favorite. Now it's up there with descending and pneuma
Could not agree more!

Tool can friggin groove when they throw down in standard time signatures.

This song is fantastic ❤ I loved it the first time I listened to it
When played live, Adam, Justin and Danny all three play guitar center stage with Maynard while reflective confetti falls
When I first listened to the album front to back, Culling Voices was the 1st track I went back for a 2nd listen.
