The Lonesome Dove 4 part Miniseries T.V Movie is another great one to see when it comes to being an Ultimate Rollercoaster of Emotions during a long hard Journey.
Any character that allows him to chew it up and make it epic. It certainly is a shame he never got to be a hero protagonist in a film of his own. I could see him in a sarcastic, grizzled character of repressed heroic nature, someone containing a bit of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino.
Matthew Quigley Buffalo Rifle Match is held annually in Forsyth, Montana and is a black powder cartridge rifle target match. It has been held for 25 years
And because of this movie Sharps rifle reproductions started being made after the originals had stopped being made in 1881. Shiloh even makes a model called the 1874 Quigley that has the option to be chambered in 45/110 so it matches the movie

Been a fan since release. As I expand my viewing history of reactors, it becomes apparent there is some hidden rabbit they chase and only in rare circumstances will they leave the safety of the 'circle of films' being watched by others and step up to the plate, returning to why we watch. Seeing the same movie reacted to by 10 others over a single week becomes tiresome.
Native Texan here... The first white settlers in Texas, which was part of Mexico at the time (1820's), called themselves "Texicans." "Texan" didn't emerge until later in the 19th Century.
Just wanna add that the name Texas comes from Tejas, which itself comes from "taysha" which is a word for "friend" in the local Caddo tribe. That part of Mexico was already called "Tejas" before white men (not from Spain) came into the area.
@@TatankaTaylorno it wasn’t called Tejas until the White Spanish settlers came because Tejas is Spanish which didn’t exist in that area until the White Spaniards came
@@TatankaTaylorThe accepted story that Texas comes from that meeting between Massanet and the Caddo in 1689 is unlikely because Garcia Ruiz says that's not the first time the Spanish used that word. We have documents that say in 1606, 83 years before that meeting, the Spaniards had already known the Indian Tejas, he says. One of those documents is a map used by Juan de Onate, Spanish conquistador who passed through Texas looking for Gran Quivira, the fabled city of gold. The early 17th century map shows an area called Tejas to the southeast of where Gran Quivira was supposed to be. To Garcia Ruiz, this earlier reference to the word "Tejas" invalidates the idea that the word originated with Massanet's encounter with the Caddo.
I always loved Quigley's subtle flex at the end there when he name drops 'Bill Hickok' without adding the 'Wild' to it, implying Hickok was an associate. Marston let that slip right by him; he really should have thought it over!

Rickman as a hero. Haven't you watched Galaxy Quest? And Ms Giacomo was a main character in the TV series "Just Shoot Me". Great show and good commentary; as always with you.
Laura San Giacomo had been in some other movies back in the day, and had a small but stand out part as the friend in "Pretty Woman", which brought her attention, and I'm kind of guessing that this was the biggest movie she had. Since then, he had done other movies, had a recurring role on "Friends" as Richard, which kind of revived his career, and he has a cop TV show now that's doing well, I think. I have a random second hand story about him from the mid 90s. Some friends were driving down one of the curvy canyon roads here in California, on a rainy Halloween night, and their car slid off the road, and ran into the fence of someone's property. The owner of the house came out, and it was Tom Selleck. They were kind of freaked out, and very apologetic, but he was very cool about it, and just told them, "Eh. Don't worry about it. It happens all the time. It's fine." According to every story about Tom Selleck that I've ever heard, he's genuinely a very down to earth good guy!

The world needs more Aussie westerns. So glad you're reacting to this classic! For that matter, Mary, you should also check out the Snowy River movies!
If you want to see an Alan Rickman movie where he plays the hero, search for the movie Bottle Shock. It is the story of a British wine merchant in Paris who established the 1976 wine tasting between France and the Napa Wine Region, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the United States. Specifically, Chateau Montelena for Chardonnay and Stag's Leap Winery, for Cabernet Sauvignon. Also stars Chris Pine, Bill Pullman, Dennis Farino, and plenty of Doobie Brothers and 1970s rock. Filmed in the Napa and Sonoma valleys.
I’m so happy someone is reacting to Quigley! I watched this movie so much growing up so it has a special place in my heart. Thank you for reacting to it!
I watched a lot growing up also. My father loves westerns and when he likes a movie he can watch it over and over. I grew to love them myself. Crossfire Trail is another Tom Selleck western I always liked.
If you're looking for a good Alan Rickman movie where he's not a villain, you should check out a movie called Bottle Shock. It's not really a hero and villain movie. It's, loosely, about a British wine connoisseur, a bunch of California winemakers, and a French wine competition back in the 70s when French wine was pretty much the only wine thought of as being worth drinking. It's more focused than that, but those are the broad strokes. Alan Rickman, Chris Pine (Star Trek), Bill Pullman (Independency Day), and Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) are the most recognizable faces you'll see. Great movie with an excellent cast.
My two favorite scenes were where Martson was gushing over his Colt revolvers, whereupon Quigley says, "I never had much use for them," which Martson interpreted as Quigley not being familiar or proficient with them. In the later scene where Martson gives Quigley one of his revolvers thinking he was going to "educate" him , only to be shot himself., is where Quigley delivers the most BADASS line of the movie. "Said I never had much use for them. Never said I didn't know how to use it."

If you still want to watch westerns. Highly recommend Dances With Wolves, Open Range, and the series Lonesome Dove, and The Man From Snowy River ( Australian Western)
One of my favorite movies ever. I was 20 years old the year this came out and I knew I was going to love it within the first five minutes of the movie. The story, the cast, the characters, the musical score and the beauty of Australia. Australia was one of the places I would love to have gone to while in the Navy but, sadly, it never happened. I grew up watching Tom Selleck play the title character in the 80's TV series Magnum, P.I. As for Laura San Giacomo, I have seen her in the movie Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Aside from Cora, one of my favorite performances by Laura San Giacomo was in the role of Nadine Cross in the 1994 television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.

Lonesome Dove is the greatest television mini series of all time. Alan Rickman was a good guy in Galaxy Quest and Dogma. Another great Tom Selleck film is Three Men and a Baby. Loved this reaction to an underrated film
Thank you. When this first came out, I guessed that it was a sequel, similar to "The Rescuers Down Under." Eventually figured out that it was a stand-alone. John Hill told me that he sold this script to the studios in 1975, but it took them until 1990 to actually make it. Tom Selleck goes way back. He was the star of TV's "Magnum, P.I." from 1980-88. He had a choice of doing that or being Indiana Jones. Since then, he's done American Westerns, cop shows, miscellaneous dramas, even a few comedies. Hard to think of Alan Rickman playing a hero character. But he's "decent" as Col. Brandon in the 1995 version of "Sense and Sensibility."
An Australian movie for ANZAC Day (April 25): "The Lighthorsemen" (1987) true story about the Australian Light Horse Regiment in 1918. Australian production w/ Australian actors
Mary with such a steady flow of top notch commentary. Said a lot (not a criticism) but it only added to the experience. I always like her excitement when a film takes place in Australia.
1983. "The Thorn Birds". TV mini series based on a book by Colleen McCullough. Set in Australia. Stars two Australian actors, Rachel Ward and Bryan Brown. Very good watch. I read the book and watched the mini series.
After shooting Sharps rifles for 40 years that if a person knows their rifle, shots like this are very possible. The bucket shot was determined to be around 750 yards, so yes.
One of my favorite movies! I visited Freemantle and Perth in my younger days while in the Navy. I got to go duck hunting in the outback. Australia is a beautiful place.
Top three Australian movies that I can think of you’ve seen two of them Crocodile Dundee, quickly down under, now, you must see the man from snowy River, and part two. still the best horse action movie to date, Action romance happy ending everything you you want, This film was so huge I’m sure you’ve heard of it and maybe you have seen it
This is actually a good kind of Western, I mean, it is in Western Australia. Anyway. Another good Tom Sellick western in the remake of Monty Walsh. I'd also recommend the follow really good western flicks: Broken Trail, Open Range, the original Magnificent Seven and True Grit, and if you have the time, Lonesome Dove. Maybe about a hundred more, just for fun.
"The Man from Snowy River" will always hold the top spot in my heart for any Australian movie ('Mad Max' take your just-deserved 2nd place, but that's not really a 'Western'). THIS movie, however? As an American, I ADORE EET! (And Tom Selleck tickles many fancies, too!) :-)
While Tom Selleck's Quigley Down Under is very well known around the globe (I'm from Germany), I would highly recommend the really underrated but brilliant High Ground (2019) starring Simon Baker!

I watched this as a little kid and remember thinking “Oh, this crazy lady is so funny.” And then later not thinking it was so funny.
The original Lonesome Dove miniseries is one of the greatest westerns of all time. Basil Poledouris won an Emmy for the music in that.
Never said I didn't know how to use it."
this is one of my Dad's favorite movies, and it holds a special place in my heart too
a movie i bet you would love, that gets slept on quite a bit is thunderheart with val kilmer. an fbi agent is sent to an indian reservation to solve a string of murders. it sounds kinda whatever, but irl, its sooo good.
"Is Alan Rickman going to be the villain again?" But he was so *good* at it....
Really enjoyed his character in "Robin Hood" with Kevin Costner. Crazed and funny as hell!
YES! Finally, been requesting this for ages! Love this film! It does make Aussies look like the villain and the American being the hero in their homeland, as an American, I still love this western! A unique concept! RIP Alan Rickman!
If you still want to watch westerns. Highly recommend Dances With Wolves, Open Range, and the series Lonesome Dove, and The Man From Snowy River ( Australian Western)
He also directed my favorite western of all time - Lonesome Dove. With the guy who did the music also. ❤
Yes! I've been waiting for you to react to Quigley! I don't know why other reactors have ignored this classic.
been requesting this for a while, just became her new sub because of it!
F' yeah! Been waiting for this for a long time!
It's a fun movie. Glad to see your reaction to it, and happy you enjoyed it. I watched this movie so much growing up. Definitely one of the best Westerns and underrated.
I spent a couple years in the outback of Australia, very beautiful country and the friendliest people I've ever met.
Finally, Finally, FINALLY! Someone's watching one of my favorite westerns from down under (probably only). And it happens to be from one of my favorite UA-camrs from down under, Mary Cherry. Thank you for watching this. Now you have to watch this 1985 Western called Silverado. You will recognize a large amount of the cast in this one. It's another one of my favorites.
Lonesome Dove....one of the greatest mini series of all time ... I am sure the book is great also...but you need to watch Lonesome Dove... Tommy Lee Jones, Robert DuVal, Diane Lane, Danny Glover, and tons of other incredible actors...worth the many hours...
Mary, I have to say that your reaction videos are some of my favorites. Even when I watch compilation videos, you are the first to react, like you get the joke a second before everyone else and I absolutely love it. Keep up the great work!!
Quigley is wielding an 1874 45/110 Shiloh Sharps rifle. Mighty fine buffalo rifle! And, you can reload it much faster than a .50 caliber Hawkins cap and ball rifle.
I believe there are a couple replicas that ar available
@@shawnmiller4781Shiloh still makes the Sharps rifle using the original molds. They made the one used in the movie. They cost a little more than three thousand dollars and it takes 30-36 months to get your order filled.

This has always been one of my favorite movies. Thanks for helping me see it again for the first time.
Yes! Team Quigley. Mary, here's the thing with Reactions. People tend to go for what's popular but SOMETIMES, sometimes stepping out of the box gets things going. Besides, we're badasses who do our own thang. 😎❤
Glad you reacted to this movie, a real underrated gem.
You absolutely should watch Lonesome Dove. Dove, the bird.
thank you, lol.
Quigley turning his horse around to take one last look at Cora was a touching moment. He obviously remembered what she had told him about Roy.
This is one of my top 5 westerns, and I'm so happy you decided to react to this.
One of my dream rifles that I will get someday is actually Quigley's custom sharps
Thank you for reacting ti QDU. It is a gem of the 90s that has never gotten the respect it deserves. You are the first person I have seen react to this movie. Well done.
Thank you for watching this movie. It such a great movie. When you truly find out what happened to Cora and Matthew realizing why she is the way she is he falls for her and she still loves him.
I love this movie. It's legit an underrated western.
True! It was originally going to be a Steve McQueen project, but he passed away and it got shelved until the Australian movie boom in the late 80s.
If you enjoyed this, you should watch Dances With Wolves. Somewhat similar plot, and equally powerful.
Little Big Man is a western worth watching.
Thanks for reacting to this.
Seriously, is no one going to broach the subject that Mary Cherry and crazy Cora are almost identical twins?!?!?
A shame youtube had to blurr the rifle everytime. It's such a beautiful piece of work!
You blurred out Quigley's rifle??? Why even review the movie?
I have to agree to your comment, why review this movie if you're gonna blur the weapon
That's her safe method of around UA-cam rules to keep her videos monetized and not age restricted. Probably overkill, but that's her choice.
Blurred out an antique single-shot rifle but not the revolvers.
The ticket agent was only aware that "Roy" had an American accent, so was preparing if he should say he was Quigley.
Paint Your Wagon, a western musical with Clint Eastwood that every woman who watches it loves it. I so don't want to spoil the story.
An Australian movie for ANZAC Day (April 25):
"The Lighthorsemen" (1987) true story about the Australian Light Horse Regiment in 1918. Australian production w/ Australian actors
And the same director, Simon Wincer.
And the same director, Simon Wincer.
Quigley down under without showing the rifle? Ok I don't get it, I see guns on youtube all the time.
A Cry in the Dark (1988) is the movie where americans learned about the dingo story. Meryl Streep played Lindy.
“The Silver Brumby” starring a fairly young Russell Crowe is also a really good movie, as well as “The Light Horsemen”.
Top three Australian movies that I can think of you’ve seen two of them Crocodile Dundee, quickly down under, now, you must see the man from snowy River, and part two. still the best horse action movie to date, Action romance happy ending everything you you want, This film was so huge I’m sure you’ve heard of it and maybe you have seen it
YYYYAAAAAYYYYY THANK YOU for watching this movie, you dont know how happy this makes me, one of my favorite movies!!!
They need to make a movie about the Great Emu War...... It could be a comedy classic.
Check out The Proposition (2005) for another outstanding Australian western.
22:22 - 1988 film 'A Cry in the Dark'. Meryl Streep portrays 'Lindy Chamberlain'.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Laura San Giacomo was in Pretty Women with Julia Robert's. Also in the TV show Just Shoot Me!
This is one of my favourite westerns.
Mary dropping the Dad Jokes. Can it possibly get any better than that? (was funny as hell girl you had me laughing like crazy) Well done. 😁
Was always bummed Selleck never did a sequel. Laura SanGiacomo was in Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and star of the sitcom. "Just Shoot Me".
It's been such a long time since I've seen this movie, great to see it was appreciated.
Can i just say i really love your vibe and smile. Just the best 🔥 ❤
Agree.
I'm so glad that you got to this one, one of my favorite movies!
“If he’s encircled by a bunch of dingos…good luck!”
That phrase in your accent is hilarious for some reason. I loved this movie growing up.
"The Man from Snowy River" will always hold the top spot in my heart for any Australian movie ('Mad Max' take your just-deserved 2nd place, but that's not really a 'Western').
THIS movie, however? As an American, I ADORE EET! (And Tom Selleck tickles many fancies, too!)
:-)
Another great Australian western is The Man from Snowy River.
While Tom Selleck's Quigley Down Under is very well known around the globe (I'm from Germany), I would highly recommend the really underrated but brilliant High Ground (2019) starring Simon Baker!
