Wouldn't it be nice if all big box pet stores had a system like this? I love my lfs because they put their "normal" bettas in community tanks ranging from 10-30 gallons and they all have their own sponge filter. They only have 5 "show" bettas at any one time in a custom divided long tank that gives each betta what looks like a little over a gallon. All with driftwood and live plants. It is fantastic compared to the betta cups in other stores. And their show bettas turnover weekly, so they only spend a few days in there at the most.
Gosh, that yellow koi is just stunning. I envy your creativity with these things. For some reason, I can't wrap my head around how to build anything even remotely automated. You're so freaking cool. :D
I love what you have been doing. Honestly, watching your videos have helped me heal over losing my betta after 2 years with him. I have had Bettas for well over 7 years. I decided to take a long break from having bettas after mine passed. Your videos have helped me not just heal but give me an idea of what I should do when I decide to get another one. I want to go all out when I decide to get back into it. You are inspirational! Thank you for your videos!
Instead of letting the water go to the drain, why not send it through a 30/50 Liters plastics drum filled with filter media ? You could filtrate the water and run it in a closed circle doing automatic water change with a gardena watering clock.
Hello! Having a closed system is my ultimate goal, but finding a container which fits in my really narrow space is the only issue I’ve been having. Someone may have pointed out a really narrow trash can I could use though, I’ll have to go measure to see if that will work as a sump!
You could have a look at waterproof barrels/container like the one used in kayak, a lot of them are smaller in height than industrial 30/50 Liters containers.
This is so cool.. I am also a Betta breeder myself for a couple of years now and you are doing the right way breeding them & frankly more less hassle handling these types of fishes the way I do. Great job! The only thing I can probably suggest is cattapa leaves which conditions the water enviroment its like they are in their natural habitat. Keep up the good work!
Got to stop judging. She compassionately takes care of her bettas. Good job Simply Betta. You're super hard working too. Thanks for sharing with us. You're one of the good ones on UA-cam.
in my country this fish is called "cupang", its extremely awesome coz i never tought if this fish is exist in other country too. your design is amazing :)
I just Subscribed. Damn woman!! I hope you won't be angry that I'm stealing this idea :O Been wanting to breed Betta for about 10 years now. Now I finally told myself to stop wanting and just do. So I'm gathering all the info I can about breeding (other then the naughty bit). It's a year, maybe 2 year plan over here. And you have the most cleanliest idea I've seen! I bow to you, my master!
Now these are the kinds of fish videos I come to UA-cam for: practical solutions to fishkeeping problems. That was a great project. Do you plan to go fully automatic at some point?
Hi @creative pet keeping! Yeah the idea of leaks scares me, which is why this will NOT be a recirculating system until I'm a million percent sure I've actually done everything right! Hehe. My floors in this spare bathroom are wood and they'll totally warp if I'm not careful D:
You and other small breeders do awesome work. Trying to so us breeding for quality not quantity and showing other beginners what they are getting into is an inspiration. I am looking to breed for the first in June. Thank you for what you are doing.
because of you i have been inspired to start my own channel. i have leaved so much from you and literally just turned a tank into a home for 3 bettas that i divided using a idea i got online.
Wow that is amazing!! And just crafty. I was reading through the comments and I don’t understand how anybody could say anything negative about this!!! I think ur have done amazing and ur fish are beautiful Congratulations
All the people complaining probably just saw someone just like this girl who loves Bettas complain that people let there fish LIVE in small jars and assume their rant also applies to her fish that are GROWING.
Great rack. Where can I get the jars? I want to build something like that. I wonder if you could get 4 foot flourescent tubes to go across the top of the jars to light up several jars with a single light. I wonder if there is some way to have drainage taps at the bottom of each container so that the fish waste can just be drained out automatically?
I am doing a similar system with 2 1/2 gallon tanks for killies.... where did you get your containers? what size are they? thanks oh by the way.... i came up with a different method for the strainers on the inside pipe to detour fish from getting caught. i take a dremel blade, and cut a slit in the pipe perpendicular to the end, about 1/4" from opening, and cut about 2/3 through the pipe, and cut a piece of plastic screen to fit the slot and slip it into place. you can use different sized mesh depending on the size of the fish...
Very cool, this is the ultimate in labor saving systems. Some thing i learned with fish keeping make cleaning and water changes as easy as possible because when you have multiple tanks it becomes a huge chore...
Great job! I love how you maximized that space and had everything looking so neat and professional looking. Beautiful bettas! Thanks for sharing this idea!
I have an idea. This will make your system more go green :). Use gravity to transfer fresh (new) water to distribute to the jar. You must make your bucket higher. But it will save money. Sorry if i wrong. I just a stupid person. :) And sorry for my bad english. I m from indonesia. Btw that is a very nice job. Great keep it up.
Would also allow betta's on the lower levels - just need space for a sump collection jar/container - that currently not used... You could even just use water pressure from the tap to fill up the top container! I like this idea a lot!
Thank you for sharing this video with us. I am too lazy to set up a system like yours, preferring to clean mine individually for 25 Bettas. Of course, your way is much better and will allow you to raise dozens of Bettas safely. With time, and the help of other fish keepers with similar setups, you will have your system working fine. Your Plakats look amazing! I can see you receiving offers on several of them. Have a great Summer and Happy Fish keeping to all.
I appreciate it! I clean most of my breeders individually but I reeeeally needed a solution for my juveniles! Haha it was getting a little too stressful in the fish room. Thanks for watching
I went to Petco to get more plants because I got a 5 gallon Marineland tank for my Betta named Batman. I was telling the guy Nathan at the store about how active and funny Batman is. That his first day me looking in his tank he kept swimming around and flaring at me lol and of course I did not know what that was so looked it up and he was trying to scare me. Now he picked me at Petco he was the only active one the day I went. Now I give him a few minutes with a mirror before feeding, sometimes after. Nathan said he has never had an active Betta like mine. I am so paranoid getting the bigger tank ready!!!
Y'all saying the tank is too small but ey its. Bigger than walmart scontainers. Plus its temporary. What do you think Walmart does when no one buys their bettas? I'm guessing the swim in a creek upstate.
Bre you sound so creepy saying that. How about this? Can I come visit you playa? What you expect foo? For her to just say o yea dexter or whatever your real name is. Come on down, sleep in the house with me and my family. You bout crazier then a muhfuh cuh.
i havnt watch this video but i saw the 5 or so sec preview youtube give u and i was like "thats what ive been waiting to make for my betta fry" u made when i had in my head for months. i just didnt build it cuz idk how it would look but seeing someone build what was in my head will now really help me out. u also have Autism right. i ask cuz i do to. but really u toke what i had in my head and made it thc u!
Excellent system. However, the thing I don't like about these "water change" systems, is the waste of water down the drain. I haven't invented a system yet, but there has to be some way of cycling the water to your outdoors & watering plants and/or lawn.
Oh yes there is, in face I have heard that Goliad farms (they raise lots of livebearers and cichlids) in TX recycles their water through plants to such an extent that they don't even need to water change - they only need to replace water that was lost through evaportation!
John Carlson Oh hey! That is a really good idea to think on. Many fish keepers save “disposed” water for certain gardens, as the vitamins and minerals ate incredible... But to make something like a filter that cycles would be so genius
Oh gosh, I HAVE TO save all my fish water to water house plants and outdoor plants too. I live in drought ridden California and we are on a well and it would kill me to waste a drop. It takes a while to water everything but, it's well worth the effort. My plants and even the trees look great! And let's not forget all the happy fish too! 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🌳🌱🌳
Bernd Twiest its just temporary. She even retires her breeder bettas into bigger tanks when they're past their time. Good food, clean water- other than the lack of space she treats them very well, and again, its definitely temporary. Sadly, bettas have too many fry to be able to individually house them all.
Thanks for you answer, personally I am a guy who keeps fish like how they living in nature. I see to many videos from people who keep fish in a wrong environment and water conditions. I am not attacking you personally, but it give me a sad feeling, see al these videos of people who just want a pet fish and not looking further what the needs are.
Bernd Twiest It is quite sad. But this is the best way to breed bettas and be able to actually make a profit unless you're a massive company, like some of the guys down in indonesia, as I believe some have ponds. At the same time, some of those companies keep bettas in half an average bottle of water.
Yes, this is small tanks, but it is a grow out system, not permanent homes. However, I would suggest putting some paper or cardboard between the jars so the bettas view into each other is blocked, that would relieve some stress.
You know bettas should have a 5 gallon tank or Evan more because the are use to live in a huge home from were they came from not the pet store the wild . And they look so sad in the pet store in those little tanks.
I mentioned in the video this is a grow-out system for juveniles, not a long-term petkeeping solution. They're fine for the amount of time it takes to grow to adult size
So sad, as a fish lover and a 35 years of having an aquarium i never understood why people do this. Putting a fish in a jar so cruel. thre should be a law against this. Its all about the money i guess.
@nick bergman I did explain it in the video Nick - male juvenile betta fish fish need to be reomved from their spawn when they mature so they don't tear eachother to shreds. Every betta breeder everywhere moves them into a container of some kind to finish growing. When a breeder has 3 maturing spawns and 50+ males to separate, what is the best, most humane thing to do? Give them each their own space with a water change system to guarentee clean, fresh water.
You obvious know nothing about betta breeding and def not a regular follower of her channel. Any betta you own or have owned, likely came from a jar/bottle .
I guess people kinda getting pissed about what i said . And i know what betta fish do when you put males together, they are very territorial and they will fight to the death. Many years ago they put these fish in jars in petstores to sell. Many people opposed to this. So they passed a law here in my country its called animal rights law wh ich forbids these kind of practices. Same as raising chickens or other farm animals for consumption putting as much as they can in to a square meter cage these animals got so stressed that they started killing each other cause it saves money. So don't think of me as a bad person its just the way i / we think here. Laws differ per country and its probably fantastic what this girl does and earning some extra cash, but illegal and cruel were i;m from. My apoligies if i offended anyone.
Myriam Elizabeth Viadas Oaxaca where do you expect her to put all her Bettas? She’s a breeder, at least she doesn’t keep them in beer bottles like they do in Thailand. Don’t be ignorant.
These betta are absolutely gorgeous! For their age they look completely healthy, their colors are stunning. You can tell they were bred properly. Great video! ♥
Let.me.tell you. Jut wonderfully explained. Simple, lean, affordable and just perfect for a.guy who is just spawning 4 pairs. And didnt plan the babies grown going agressives. So with this I can do it really fast. Day one: all the materials. Day 2 : building like crazy and end. Day 3 : adjustments. .thanks for sharing. Pd: Im planing ading some light ( dimmered ) and co2.
Well if the boys don't find you hot at least they'll find you handy!!! lol Very cool video.. and nice system and shelf.. takes a while to work out the kinks but totally worth it in the long run.. deffinately want a water change system for my shrimp rack as well..
Walmart could definitely learn from this!
Walmarts problem isn't with the fish, it's with the INEXPERIENCE of the people in charge of caring for them.
Wouldn't it be nice if all big box pet stores had a system like this?
I love my lfs because they put their "normal" bettas in community tanks ranging from 10-30 gallons and they all have their own sponge filter.

Walmart’s in NY don’t sell fish 😂😂 I’m so confused!
@@ReMz10184 I work at a bix box and I have been begging for something like this.
Yea. My Walmart don’t sell fish anymore which I’m so happy about it! Now they can’t kill them🥺😭!
The dirty water can be given to ur plants cause the dirty water is like fertiliser
absolutely
Really?! Ha! Thanks for letting me know!
Yep! It is awesome for plants. They grow so much faster when watered with old tank water.
Thanks for the info!!!!!! Can you use the water from a water change for this as well?
@@kennedybergman9698 yes. I'm watering my tomatoes with it every week. I'm growing strawberries in my aquaponics filter above my aquarium.
Gosh, that yellow koi is just stunning. I envy your creativity with these things. For some reason, I can't wrap my head around how to build anything even remotely automated. You're so freaking cool. :D
Hey thank you! The yellow guy is one of my favs :) he’s getting a little old though :(

u have a gift or breeding fish
A closed system would need some way to get rid of the nitrates. You would need to have a lot of plants with roots in the water such as in aquaponics.
This is so cool.. I am also a Betta breeder myself for a couple of years now and you are doing the right way breeding them & frankly more less hassle handling these types of fishes the way I do. I don't usually comment, but amazing job! And it's so nice to see you back in the UA-cam ! Keep up the great work!
Well I appreciate the comment! Thank you :)
I have an idea.
This will make your system more go green :).
Use gravity to transfer fresh (new) water to distribute to the jar.
You must make your bucket higher. But it will save money.
Sorry if i wrong. I just a stupid person. :)
And sorry for my bad english. I m from indonesia.
Btw that is a very nice job.
Great keep it up.
Thanks for the idea! My ceiling is too low for that idea though :)
Would also allow betta's on the lower levels - just need space for a sump collection jar/container - that currently not used... You could even just use water pressure from the tap to fill up the top container!
I like this idea a lot!

Myriam Elizabeth Viadas Oaxaca where do you expect her to put all her Bettas? She’s a breeder, at least she doesn’t keep them in beer bottles like they do in Thailand. Don’t be ignorant.
Jorge Gonzalez i agree👏🏻👍🏻
Poor Bettas :(
Ignorant people
Do your research before you comment. So you won't look like a moron
You know the professionals ( Thais and Viets) keeps their bettas in jars/bottles smaller than hers...their bettas live for years.
Well if the boys don't find you hot at least they'll find you handy!!! lol
