I appreciate that you have a short intro and no annoying music in the background.
I really appreciate your use of timestamps. Thank you!
This is a very thorough video and a really great guide for anyone starting out their smart home as it can be daunting at first.. Great work Brett. I can't wait for the day that they just connect directly to the Assistant, other than downloading another App. I see the Yeelight bulb might be one of the first.. I ordered one on Ali Express, so i should have it by 2022 😉😉😉
I love my assistant. Especially the routines. When my google clock goes of my lights turn on, the news start playing, weather is shown to me and the best, my coffeemachine automatically starts brewing a nicely can of coffee. Never woken up better!
Thank you for explaining everything so we'll.
Brett, great job as always! Really like the way you show all aspects of devices and setups!
Your videos have been amazing! Black Friday was a great time to snag deals for starting out my smart home. Thank to you I can have an epic dance party in my bedroom with my smart bulbs and Google nest hub mini 👍😁
One day this will be my home, just ordered my first item, echo show 5, I understand it's a bit dated but heck I'm excited!
Thank you for the thorough explanations and setups for each device. This has cleared up so many forms of ambiguity for me regarding smart home devices and setting them up. Awesome job!!
I'm still a big fan of having a "smart home hub" that acts like a central point for all my smart devices to connect to and be controlled by. It also allows for me to have a central location for all my of my home automations. The steps Google and Amazon have been taking are starting to push that smart hub requirement out the window. Will be curious what 2021 brings!
Great content, thank you 🙌🏼
great video, brett! i hope it helps brings newcomers to using a smart home
Thank you for this video, really helped
this was a good video. so simple, so easy to follow and understand. good on you brett for cutting to the points.
you'd make a great teacher
Love your work mate , and how cool was that tap :) !
Ahh so happy you’ve uploaded! Yas!
Ability to control almost all your house was impossible some 15 years ago and I can't imagine what we'll be able to do in next 15 years.
I love google assistant just going to get the google nest hub max !!! I'm so excited for it !!
Love your channel, keep making your videos and don't forget about your family
Thanks for the tips and information Brett
Nice info & great review as always.👍
This video made us feel that everyone can freely combine to achieve smart home automation .We focus on Smart Security Alarm, hoping to provide safety protection for more people, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, Door Sensor, motion sensor, etc.A small item may be able to help many families stay away from disasters.
And Big thank you to your videos!
This was super helpful, thank you
Glad I found your page! Getting our first house built and I’m in IT and I want to automate a lot of devices in and outside the house. Thanks for the suggestions
This was an amazing video. This is the first smart home guide that does not make me feel overwhelmed with the number of options available.
“Uat”? Number of options => multiple ways to configure/inovate/ automate. And you are overwhelmed? :)))))
The coolest thing was the faucet, I didn’t know these existed
It cost 400.00 US. I think I will keep my measuring cup. My water bill tells me how much water I use too.
@@scottt988 Sure all smart home technology is a premium product that you don't really need if you think about it too much! It just depends if it's going to deliver meaningful value to you. For some folk, 400USD is a price worth paying for that!
Great video for people just starting out, Brett. You've now outdone me by putting in that Moen tap. Challenge accepted.
best review! thanks!
Thanks for the video
Thanks.
That's a good one.
thanks for your sharing
really nice recommend videos for our home
Your smart blinds have me intrigued.
thx for this video
Great job
This is good video. Good job.
awesome...I wonder if this technologies are available in my country(Iran)...if so...I would be glad to use them in my architectural designs...thanks
Good works, I really enjoy the video but I want to learn more so I can really go into the business come 2022
Great video
Hey, like the smart kitchen faucet ..
But I must say, unless you've got a water filtration system somewhere not seen in the video. You're very fortunate to live in an area where it's safe to drink tap water and use for cooking.
Here in So Cal, we don't use it for either one nowadays. ....
Nice video brett
really SMART
I've been working on smart things for 2021 got myq garage door bridge and THERMOSTATS up with googleand smart clock looking at light switches and bulbs next in line
I have found the best device to add to your Smart home. It is like all the sensors and controls you would need on one device. It is...
a disconnected smart phone
It has cameras, a wifi connection, personal assistant, Bluetooth speaker, microphone, video display, plus more.
Excellent. Plz make more vdo
One thing to be concerned about when adding a smart thermostat, is that not all heating systems will work with them and you can damage the electronics on your furnace if you connect one up to them. I have a multistage Carrier Infinity brand furnace that uses a digital signal to talk with the thermostat rather than just the DC voltage. You can usually tell if you have one like this if the wires for the thermostat are labeled ABCD.
Great info. Always good to check what you have and if the products are compatible.
Great Video...only concerned how our home ecosystem could be made more secure... if a person could hack into the Controller, could they hold us to ransom with locking us in/out using a smart door lock, or control the temperature on the smart Thermostat/water heater in peak winter etc.? Would like to hear your thoughts on this, and if there are any products to make our Smart Homes more "SECURE"
If you have Google Nest Hub do you still need the Sonos?
Hey can you try the globe suite lights and outlets pls to see if there are good to buy
Great video. Would have been nice to have the Hey Google muted, but I did notice you put a warning up :)
this is dope
Fourth generation echo devices come with a built-in zigbee hub that controls zigbee devices independently of your WiFi network and the internet. I wish they'd come out with one that has a built-in Z-Wave hub in addition to zigbee.
You are the best you inspired me to get my own Google home and I love it and you are the best stay safe my friend!
Hi, is there anyway that I could turn off Ewelink app notifications automatically when I reached home and turn on again when I'm leaving home. It would be very helpful since I used the Sonoff motion sensors as part of my home security in conjunction with Google assistant and android phone. Thanks .
Does the Moen faucet need an ethernet connection? Or does it connect via WiFi/app only?
Very. Nice
Hi pls make a video on wifi clogging due to using too many smart devices
I have f rooms can this still work if I get additional bulbs
Would be awesome to do this with HomeAssistant.
Are there thermostats that connect to radiators? Since I live in Germany, there is a radiator in every room.
No floor heating or fancy stuff like that :D
Hi Brett I'm sorry i have not been on videos lately but I've been subbed since 2020
Nice vedio
cool video
Hi Brett Great video as always, but can you please mute out the trigger words.
Hey @Tech With Brett I have read some bad reviews about the U by Moen fucet that it leaks from the hoes connections. Have you had the same problem or is it user installation fault?
I have not experienced that at all. My only complaint is it takes a bit if time to change from cold to hot water.
@@TechWithBrett I see, thanks for your answer. One more question. Would you happen to know, since it is compatiable with Google Assistant, if Im using another language then English, does it still work using voice commands?
Comfort temp is 69°
👍
@ 2:00 "choosen" 🙃
Brett, in the market for a replacement speaker. The sonos is on my list. Can both Google and Alexa services be enabled at the same time? Or can I only use one service for the sonos speaker?
Oh can only use one voice assistant at a time. So would need to check your assistant in the Sonos app everytime you want to switch.
Does it work seamlessly with one assistant and announcements for Smartthings enabled together???
Although the devices are great and are interconnected flawlessly. The problem is the price, I don't want to spend $400 for a faucet, so please make a budget version of this guide. That would be great. Appreciate your effort.
You can get one that is simply touchless. I'm not sure if you'll find a cheaper option while maintaining the "smart" in the name. I don't see a need or a want to control my faucet with voice control
I have a WIZ connect light
If the house is too big , can I add multiple access points throughout the house? And will all my devices work like if they were on the same WiFi ?
It depends on your current WiFi system. I would recommend a mesh network if you do have lots of space. Then you can easily add network points if you need to add more coverage.
I am using a TP-link Motion activated dimmer switch KS220M, ES20M in my bathroom. I would like to set up a routine using my Alexa Voice activation to communicate through the switch using the word “shower”. What I would like the routine to do is when I am ready to take a shower, I would like for the light to stay on for at least 15 minutes or longer.
When I'm in the shower the light keeps going out after one minute, and I must constantly wave my hands to trigger the motion detector to get the light to turn back on while I am in the shower.
Is there a way that I can create a routine to trigger the light for the light to stay on while I am in the shower for at least 15 minutes or longer.
When you have a lot of smart devices in your home, could getting a mesh wifi system help keep your wifi strong around the home? I added about 22 smart devices around my home from the Google ecosystem of devices and it seems like the wifi in pretty much all the rooms has gone down the drain (with the exception of the room with the Modem in it). I have 400 Mbps internet so I thought it shouldn't be an issue, but rooms I used to get good reception in, I no longer get good reception in. Great video btw!
For me it has definitely helped. I have 65 devices and don't have any issue with them staying connected to my router or wifi point.
hi there, do I have to reconfigure all my zigbee devices when I replace the zigbee hub?
Yes, but it’s better than rebuying all your devices because a manufacturer killed the cloud integrations for their hub, or because the manufacturer doesn’t have the integrations you want.
Say, if Sengled killed their Alexa skill tomorrow, you could reset all the bulbs, buy a Smarthings hub, link it to Alexa, and be back up and running.
Can we share the devices’ control with other family members if we have Alexa, so they can control everything from their phones too?
Yes I do it. Everyone. All family members need to down load the Alexa app on there phone but for this to work only one account can be used. So for instance I log into my account for all my family's app on each phone. And now they can control whatever they want in whatever room they are in. Hope this helps!
can anyone r3commend a dashboard that allows the user to manage(plàce limits) the rate of en3rgy consumption. i.e. waterflow coming from the faucet, or electricity usage??
How do you integrate this into hubitat? I'm so lost in this process. TIA.
Totally appreciate your knowledge and informative content Brett 👍... but unlike your video on "How to set up Google Nest Mini", where you muted out every time you said "Hey Google"... in this video you said it multiple times and the Nest device picked it up every time - lol! 😂 Was pretty funny the first few times... but then I just had to manually switch off the microphone.
I'm sorry... I tried to lower the volume but the brand wouldn't allow me to mute it...
@@TechWithBrett Ah... 😏 understandable! No worries man, am grateful that Google thought to ad the manual Mic. switch to the Nest when they designed it.
Why can’t u add apple HomeKit to Sonos?
I Need THOSE SHELVES . WHERE DID YOU GET THEM
Hey Bonnie, I actually made them. I followed this tutorial and just made mine 5 feet long. www.shanty-2-chic.com/2016/07/diy-floating-shelf-free-plans-youtube-video-tutorial.html
You keep triggering my Alexa you should mute yourself 😂
yes
reed from smart home solver loves ecobee
Homekit is by far the better of the 3 IMO has more advanced features such as automations and now thread support. Overall security should be a concern when building a smart home and i chose homekit in a land slide. Also Sonos is actually in fact compatible with homekit and airplay 2 which again is much more advance then casting with either Alexa or google.
HomeKit it trash compared to Alexa and google routines haha. It’s so far behind But maybe they will catch up and charge us 10x more lol
@@SpaceStrike It’s one thing to not be a fan it’s another to be uneducated. They all have there plus and minus. However where is googles sensor support? Where is alexas thread support? HomeKit combines all in to one app no need to go to other apps everything is updated in one app! Homekit automations are far more advanced then routines sorry to say! HomeKit is a secure platform Alexa and google are assistants. HomePod mini has the U1 chip which supports thread which is a game changer so while your telling Alexa and good to turn on the light and 15 seconds later they come on Siri has turned them on and off and on again by that time. More accessories avail on Alexa and google yes but why do you think that is? Less security they wanna push they don’t care about privacy especially Amazon . And for the record apple HomeKit products are on the rise and are catching up quickly. Over priced nah just a more quality product.
@@jeremytodd5340 whoa there. Apple is on no way more “private” than Alexa or google. More devices doesn’t mean that it’s less secure, it just means they dont charge an insane premium for their name to be on the box. Thread is nothing special. My smart home with 20+ devices(all WiFi) work perfect and have no issues. But in Apple HomeKit, can you get a camera to automatically show up on your tv(a firestick)? And apple requires you to have a hub from one of their devices to even set up a smart home. With google, you can start a smart home even with your phone. I’m not saying apple doesn’t have a few better things, but I’m saying as always apple products are more expensive and are a little behind
@@SpaceStrike I agree with some of what’s your saying but actually yes cameras show up on my tv and so doe my doorbell. I disagree with the security you are talking about I did not mean because they have more products they are less secure but the security process is a lot different for apple that’s why there are less products. Amazon and google are more universal yes but even google home is better with a android phone! I’ve used all three and I have far more then 50 smart home devices all running smooth as can be. Thread actually is a big deal and you will see all 3 using it very soon. Have you ever even attempted to use HomeKit? I’m going to guess no! Do you know the benefit to having a main hub? Do you know the benefit to thread? I prefer iOS over android when I was using google home I could not view cameras via the goggle home app from my phone had to open the native cam app separately! What’s the point when I can have a all in one platform that supports secure video playback at no charge and facial recognition. You keep bringing up expensive but again HomeKit is a actual platform. Google and Alexa are merely assistants that’s it there is a difference. Let’s just agree to disagree. I respect your opinion.
@@jeremytodd5340 I am sorry! You are right I have never used HomeKit I am just hating without knowledge. I guess I got so caught up with my pet peeve of slightly higher prices. You know, I’m not sure I even like google now. Google is removing free photos. So I guess any brand you have to be careful! I am sorry for being an ignorant rude person
I love you
Smart homes are so convenient but they come with a lot of danger as well. Breaching is the major one.
Link to Wiz Camera does not work :(
🙏🏾👼🏾💪🏾
you first need to decide which voice assistant you want to use? Dont you first need to decide which platfor you are going to use, like google home and download that first?
Me playing with my brothers light settings just because I can XD
I really like Google assistant, but it doesn't seem to work very well in my native language. Alexa does a far greater job understanding me in languages other than English. Funny thing is Google understands my broken Japanese very well, but not my native Portuguese 😅
But the Google Nest Products have been discontinued and will be no longer supported
I appreciate your video but since I changed my wifi router to the nest 5ghz mesh wifi I cannot install any 2.4ghz smart devices. I tried everything.
I have noticed a few hiccups lately. Are you using the guest network or the normal network?
@@TechWithBrett I tried both. I took my phone and walked a distance until my phone showed 2.4 ghz. Do I need a hub or is there something else I can try.
This appears to be a major headache as a lot of the smart devices require to be on 2.4ghz and are incapable of talking to the 5ghz freq. So that’s the warning. For you, if you want to try and solve this , you’re going to need to log into your router controls and turn of the 5ghz while you do the set up, then go back into your router controls when the set up is complete and turn back on the 5ghz. Pain in the you know where, especially as some of the router interfaces do not make it easy or straightforward to turn on and off the different frequencies. Hope you get it sorted.
@@ROG956 not sure as I don’t have a the nest WiFi. I’d be surprised if it isn’t possible but might be tricky to find the correct setting. In mine there is a smart assistant toggle, and when toggled cuts out the 5ghz for 30 minutes, allowing you onboard your smart devices and then after 30 minutes turns back on the 5ghz . Maybe look for that or maybe google have advice if you google it?
Hello can you please update your closed captions I'm deaf
Are you kidding me? I’m going to end up in the mental home if I try to connect this lot. Step one is ; "ensure adequate supply of Valium before attempting this". The tap looks great, however, I’d rather volunteer for an exorcism than install it.
Can any of this be hacked ?? Asking bc I’m looking for smart door locks/deadbolts
yes. cheaper or Chinese products will most likely have inferior security to the more expensive brands.
will you get hacked? probably not. im not completely up to date on IOT technology, but: having a hub for devices to connect to will make everything more secure
@@r.mler2000 I have a hub for my other wifi lights would that work or would I need a different hub
*This video contains verbal use of "Alexa" & "OK Google."

nice video brett
Dude, did Home Depot not let you mute that? My Echo was losing its god damn mind lol.
@@Sw33tBabyRays lol yea like really
Why not edit them out though?
Just mute the video when you say Alexa just like every other how to video does when theu say Alexa... You are already editing your video... Then people's Echo's won't be woken up... 🤦🏻♂️
