    Well said. Just took deliver of my MYLR 3 weeks ago and loving it. I wasn't thinking Tesla when I started the buying process but dealer markups, lack of EV inventory, & Tesla price cuts earlier this year made me reconsider. Once I took a MY on a test drive I was sold. Also, I can take this EV on a road trip reliably. Looking forward to that. Also, how sweet is it not to have to spend several hours at a dealership buying a car & trying not to get ripped off?

    THANK YOU for stating the obvious!
    I never understood the ongoing comparison of Tesla, any Tesla, to bargain basement or high efficiency ICE vehicles.
    When I got my 2021 M3 SR+ (the cheapest, slowest, smallest, shortest range Tesla), I compared it (and still do) to the 2021 BMW 330i RWD. They’re actually comparable!

      There's a big difference between cost and cost of ownership. You can compare a Tesla Model 3 to much higher end luxury vehicles if comparing performance, or lower cost vehicle if looking at overall lifetime ownership costs. Like I drove an Audi S4 and wasn't impressed. I drove a much cheaper Model 3 LR and was blown away. Comparable in performance but not price. Same as my Mazda3 that was much cheaper. With gas prices and additional maintenance, my Model 3 is about the same cost to own as that vehicle. People assume I'm rich because I own a Tesla. Nope, just cheap.

    • @ezpoppy55
      @ezpoppy55 Рік тому

      @@TheAdventureAuto I like my comparison I did to the BMW much better. If someone wanted to run figures for operation over (x) years, they can do that. Using mental math, I can get close enough on the Beemer and my M3.
      But thanks for the info.

    • @ItzRoe
      @ItzRoe Рік тому +1

      Big Tesla fan myself, but you’re only comparing by performance when you should also include the interior and build quality which Tesla is really lacking vs it’s luxury competitors.
      Panel gaps on a 40k+ car is nuts

    • @ezpoppy55
      @ezpoppy55 Рік тому

      @@ItzRoe Not sure if your point here. I was commenting about the comparison so many make to the Model 3 and economy priced ICE vehicles.
      I chose to compare the Tesla to that particular BMW model, using the objective metrics provided by Car and Driver. Those metrics are absolutely quantifiable and therefore comparable.
      Of course, people will also include subjective qualities, including those you’ve mentioned, when choosing a car. Or really anything. That’s their prerogative and their right.
      Some like BMW as you do, other prefer other similar brands (Lexus, MB, Audi, etc…). So goes life.
      Me? I’d choose the Tesla again if I was doing it again. 50+ years of driving, and this is unlike any other car I’ve ever owned or driven!
      But to each their own.

    On brake service, I just had mine done and it was easy and cheap at the Tesla Service Center. I live in snow country and drive on gravel roads part of the time. The gravel roads kick up a lot of mud in the Spring and that sticks to the wheel wells and the brake areas. In addition the roads are treated with magnesium chloride to bind the gravel and fines for a hard surface. Also the paved roads are salted to keep the ice clear. Those salts bind the sticky mud and road dirt to the underside. Finally, as Gjeebs says, regen braking means your brake calipers and subsystems are not exercised very often and the lubrication originally applied will dry up and prevent proper action of the brakes when needed. For those drivers in winter conditions, I highly recommend getting your brakes service on schedule and that is true for any EV that provides regen braking or one-pedal driving.

    • @jdyyz5471
      @jdyyz5471 Рік тому

      All good points above. I live in Canada, where our experience in winter is similar. I’ve toggled on the feature to use the rear brakes when regen braking is limited. It’s the rear brakes that are more likely to have the calipers seize up in winter rather than the fronts (its a result of the salt water spraying up in the rears right where the brakes sit). Servicing brakes annually, or at minimum biannually is a must, but this is also true for any other car with rear disc brakes. The cost at Tesla was a few hundred $CA… no different than any other brand.

    Hey Gjeebs, I drive my 2020 Model Y Performance in Wisconsin. In winter I swap out my summer set with a winter set of wheels/tires. Extra cost, but Discount Tire swaps them for free, and even plugged one of my tires when they found a nail in one of them.
    As for brakes, I've set the feature where if regen is limited, the car will use the brake pads to simulate as if you had regen braking, such as on a nearly full charge or in extreme cold. I'll usually just go around 50 mph, then hit the brake pedal to use it every now and then and reduce/eliminate any rust that might be forming. So far after 72k miles they're still working fine.

    I love my Model Y. I don't drive the trip distance you do or people Bearded Tesla or Lockett Tech but when I do get out there on the road I'm not worried once bit about find a working charger.
    My wife and I live in Virginia and drove the Atlantic City. It's about a 3 to 4 hour drive and I never needed to stop and charge. I parked the vehicle for the 3 or 4 days we were there and only needed to charge one time on the way back. This past weekend we drove to Virginia beach, because our state is a big state, and stayed for a couple days. Didn't need to charge on the way there and only once on the way back. The charging station was outside of a Sheetz gas station/convenience store which allowed me to take a bathroom break and order a salad. I got back to the car and was ready to go with more than enough charge to get home. Now the car is on charge waiting until off-peak tie and will be fully ready for me for work in the morning.
    Don't get me wrong. There are some other great EVs out there and if you're interested in them they are worth checking out but definitely have a check list to want you want and need in an EV and it will help you make up your mind. For me I needed space, range and charging reliability and Tesla was the only one that checked every box.

Working from home and using the car mostly to take kids to school is another factor. But call me cheap - I would consider myself practical - I need a car to move around in relative comfort. With the recent price drop from Tesla I started looking closely. But then I realized there are hidden costs Tesla owners pay - doubled registration fees, almost doubled insurance, while maintenance is lower the parts (wheels) are doubled in price. Therefore while the recent price cuts are really impressive at this point Tesla doesn't look practical but rather luxury option.

      Different strokes for different folks. IMHO, in EV cars, range is everything. Which is why I opted for the MYLR. Plus the thin tires on the MYP cost more to replace and will have a harsher ride compared to the MYLR. Both the P and LR will have battery degradation, making the usable range even less. The LR is plenty fast enough for me as it should be for most. But if youre a speed freak ,by all means knock yourself out with the MYP lol. And it was pointed out the red brakes on the MYP were just MYLR brakes that were painted red and had nothing to improve performance lol. If you look at videos of model S plaid on nurburgring by UA-camr I forgot the name, the review concluded its a great car for straight line but had horrible brakes and not suited to track use ie windy roads in real life, he said it was very unstable.

    It is in Austria cheaper than any ICE car, when it is a company car which can be privately used by an employee. At the tax calculation for the employee is 2% of the new price of an ICE car added, but 0% at an electric car. So even the Dacia Sandero for 12.000 € is for the company more expensive than the 45.000 € Tesla Y RWD.

    • @BitJam
      @BitJam Рік тому

      Congrats on the new car! I love my Model Y!
      The sole purpose of cabin overheat protection is to save the lives of children and pets who are accidentally left in the car. Elon boasted recently that no child or pet has died in a Tesla this way. Cabin overheat protection turns off after 12 hours so it is not useful for keeping the max temperature of the cabin down.
      I have a dog but there is no way I would forget him in the car. I live in the desert and I have cabin overheat protect sent to vent only. IMO unless there is chance it will save the life of a child or pet, setting cabin overheat protection on A/C (the default) is a waste of energy and money.
      I think this is all explained in the manual.

    I do want a Model Y. But the "savings" are not a real reason to buy one. Any gas savings you get over a ICE vehicle, you lose in the increased insurance costs. I have 3 gas vehicles on my insurance, including a 40k truck and I pay $379 a month in insurance. To add a Model Y, it would add another $300 a month in insurance costs. Those batteries are extremely expensive to replace and you have to replace them in most accidents.

If you’re single and make $100K, you pay 10% on roughly the first $10K, 12% on the next $30K, then 22% on the next $50K, and finally 24% on the last $10K of *taxable* income. Tax incentive depends on everyone individual situation, you may not necessarily get the full 7.5k. Yes if you owe 22k you get the full 7.5k. But If you only owe 4k in taxes, you only get 4k incentive. If you happen to be getting a refund on your taxes, and don't owe, then you don't get any of the 7.5k

    • @bradboudreaux9348
      @bradboudreaux9348 Рік тому

      That not how any of that works…you would get a refund due to overpaying on your taxes through paycheck deductions. As long as you paid more than 7500 in taxes that year you would get the full tax credit. This means a 5500 refund could be increased to 13,000. A person would have to make less than 67k a year to not get the full 7,500…and in that case they probably shouldn’t be buying a Tesla.
