Originally I wanted any car but a Tesla. After driving them all, Tesla was the only car that gave me the confidence that the battery and drivetrain would hold up and that I would be able to charge it without hassle. I'm now at 1 year of ownership and my love for the car has only grown. Software updates have brought features to my car that didn't exist when I bought it. Every other ICE car I've driven feels slow, loud and janky (thanks to automatic transmissions) by comparison, not to mention fueling and maintenance costs associated with fossil vehicles. Tesla charging network is absolutely rock-solid with no hassle. At this point, I really can't imagine owning and driving any other car besides the Y, be it gas or electric.
It’s great you were able to get past your initial irrational negative bias. Fortunately you figured this out before you cut off your nose to spite your face.
Agree, almost as simple as an Amazon purchase. The shady dealers hate that. Dreading going to the dealership soon as my wife wants a Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
It’s crazy how many Tesla haters there are. I didn’t realize it until I bought one and almost instantly had people sending me any negative press ever written on them. Most of it is overblown and exaggerations of the same teething problems any manufacturer has with new models. And of course, all the haters are people who have never driven one. Appreciate the videos as usual and Merry Christmas Gjeebs!!
I live in Tucson and bought a used 2020 Model 3 LR and picked it up in Tempe and it has been the best car I have ever had. I have only had it for 6 months now but, I look for whatever reason to go out and drive it. I will literally go out of my way to pick up a friend who lives far just to drive it more.
Teslas are great cars in many ways, and I agree that a lot of people complain more than necessary. But the whole panel gap thing and the crappy quality of the paint that has started an entire industry of PPT, is not just people noticing it suddenly when they wouldn’t in the past. With current pricing, perhaps it’s acceptable, given that Tesla’s pricing is so low now. But the way panel gaps were in the past, and the cheap paint that got so easily damaged, combined with the pricing in the past was unacceptable and it would have been an issue for the owner of any car of that price. I’ve never had a bunch of panel gaps or such crappy paint quality in any car I’ve owned, until I owned a Tesla. FWIW, I’ve owned VWs (usually GTI), BMW 3 series, various Audis, and a Kia Stinger GT2. None of them had panel gaps. Anyway, with all that, it’s still a great purchase for most.
Replaced a 2014 Lexus RX 350 which we loved. Test drove the new RX and was under whelmed. Test drove a model Y and I like it. My wife LOVED it. So we have a new LR. Hopefully they still have the tax credit in 3 years so we can trade in for a Juniper.
With new pricing the 2023 Performance Y is a great deal. Ride is comfortable but firm. 21s look and handle great. Efficiency Is not That different from LR model.
got my model Y LR in october '21. At 63K miles now, have been on dozens of road trips. Gearing up for a road trip to Yellowstone in February! I'm planning to shift to Wildpeak AT tires, have found some good intel on the tesla motor club forums about them for use in snow.
A premium cordless vacuum fixed that issue for me. I vacuum my car at least once every two weeks because of how much less of a hassle it is compared to corded vacuums (heck, I only vacuumed my car once with a corded because it was such a pain).
the only reason I regret getting the white seats is the frequency of which I had to clean them. Easy to clean and it never permanently stains, but I had to do it quite frequently.
You’re spot on regarding the panel gap and “recall” subject. It’s easily once a week I spend time educating the turds that send me articles from authors that are actually just shorting the stock.
I picked up a 2023 MY LR in December and couldn't be happier. We still have our 2021 Camery Hybrid SE with all the bells and whistles Toyota offers, but it's no where near the vehicle.
My MYP 2022 only has 7,500 miles as I WFH and only live a mile from my kid's school. While I probably overbought for my needs, but at least I never go to a smelly gas station and my car will serve me for a long, long time.
All 8 of my mustangs had panel gaps 😮 my 2021 Y performance that I purchased in June 21 now has 51500 miles on it. The only major problem I had was the lead 12 volt battery died at 46000 miles without warning and a continuous water leak in the lower back hatch trim when it rains. I am on my 4 visit to hopefully solve this problem.😮
My wife and I purchased a 2024 Toyota Corrolla that has panel gaps on the bottom of the trunk (side corners) you can put a regular size finger between it.
Good video. Re range, the EPA, not the manufacturer, sets the rules for how range is calculated and certifies the published range on its web site and Monroney label included on a manufacturer's window sticker. If you drive differently than the EPA rules used to determine range, then (surprise) your range will be different (and probably less than what the EPA publishes). The EPA probably needs to revise its EV highway range calculations/procedure to be more realistic with how people actually drive.
If you use the energy screen, the estimated range is very accurate. In my testing Ihave found that you need to drive about 65mph constant speed on the freeway to achieve the rated efficiency. (Without braking and accelerating... which is ridiculously slow and not possible or practical in most situations I know).
Completely agree with you. It's idiots who jumped on the bandwagon 'inspecting' their new Tesla because they watched someone on UA-cam and from there it just went crazy. Very annoying.
I have 66k miles on my 2020 MY. I drive conservatively, but because of the factory set camber, I saw severe, equal wear on the insides of all four stock tires so that rotation would have been a waste of money. My much stiffer compound Coopers are wearing much better. Front bushing noise started two months ago and the Tesla shop said I needed new upper and lower control arms. I guess the lesson learned is to sell your Tesla before the warrantee runs out. Also, wait at least a year before you buy a new model. So, I'll wait at least that long before I buy a cyber truck, but will more than likely get the R2T. CT just too damned expensive.
Thank you for the update on your Model Y. I have found a new 2024 Model Y LR with 19" wheels and a $5K discount. I am so close to making the change to an EV. I keep telling my wife we need to get rid of the dogs so we can travel more, now I have an excuse. I will tell her Gjeebs told me to.
@Gjeebs @2:02 FYI, wheel offset is where the center hub sits, negative more towards the inside or positive more towards the outside. Positive offset has the spokes near the outer edge of the rim while a bigger negative offset, -35, will have the spokes nearer to the inner edge of the rim giving it a deep “tub” look if that makes sense. More common on muscle cars with really wide rear tires. You’d use wheel spacers to move wheels outwards to line up with the edge of the fender or a can use a wider wheel if it’d fit without rubbing anything.
I have purchased a Model 3 RWD and now a Model Y and both cars are nothing short of perfect in regards to build quality. I think that build quality thing is a non-issue now.
3:25 I agree. With the introduction of the model three, and then the model Y people who otherwise, or not necessarily those that were interested in the automotive industry are now interested, which is great but, you have a whole new group of people who are hyper analyzing vehicles that are more expensive Than what has traditionally been purchased, and they are looking at cars with a more observant eye. Just got the MYLR a couple weeks ago, love it so far. I don't find the drivers seat very comfortable, and the seatbelt digs into my neck; I've adjusted the seat every which way and can't make it better. Such a weird problem but I see it all over the forums now!
3/2021 build Model Y LR owner here. 48k miles and no issues besides a loose rear view mirror. We love the car so much we are entertaining a 2024 Y Performance model. I will never go back to an ICE as Tesla has spoiled us.
I’ve had many VWs over the years but I’ve never to look for panel gaps, there never are any. Nor are there any color differences between the body paint and the bumper covers.

Great Video. But really disagree with your statement about being some people "hyper-analyzing" the quality and complain about few "imperfection" on the Tesla Quality. I own both S and Y. Love the car's tech portion of it, but really hate the build quality. Panel gaps, uneven door placement, cabin noise issues due to improper plastic adjustments, missing screws, rubber seal coming off, are only the beginning. American Car manufacturers will continue to lag behind Japan and Korea, or even China EV makers on the quality build with these type of acceptance to inferior quality builds and influencing people that it's OK and acceptable for poor build quality. Just my 2 cents.
My insurance (Tesla Insurance) on 6/24 was $124/month. Went up to $240/month in 2 months. Now $290/month. And just got an email that its going to be $347/month next month lol About to look for a new one.
Great video with the feedback on the aftermarket parts and the comparison of the newer MY’s. My sister in law has a newer model Y with the Ryzen chip and it is noticeably faster than my 2020 MY. It’s also much quieter and it feels like the suspension is softer versus mine. It’s a much better ride. Can you do a video in the future reviewing 18inch wheel setup for the MY? For those of us looking to go more comfort? Does it give even more range with even more unsprung weight?
Appreciate the review. Although this seems more like an integrated sponsor ad for every third party upgrade / accessories you have bought. Little misleading and a waste of time but i get it, you need to justify it with an ROI of some sort.
I used to like Teslas. Now that you can get banned 1 week from lane keep for checking your speedometer too much (with your hands on the wheel), I don’t know so much anymore.
Yall TESLA IS NOT THERE YET MY BATTERY DIED AFTER HAVING FOR 3 WEEKS THANK GOD IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT IT RAISES A QUESTION...WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WHEN THE WARRANTY IS OVER IN 5 YRS ??? BUY A 22K BATTERY REPLACEMENT??????
I don't know if anyone has had this issue with 2023 model Y. I have a passport radar detector mounted next to my rear view mirror, at night it goes crazy with laser detection alerts. I talked to tesla tech and passport about it, they never heard of this issue. Anyone else have it or know of a solution
There are infrared lights facing the inside of vehicle for night time driver monitoring. Perhaps these are causing the false positives on the radar detector at night.
Thanks for the great content - both informative and entertaining. We will be in the market for a new car in May and leaning heavily to the MY. One question I had that was if there are annoying rattles and squeaks after a few years. Know all cars get them, but curious how it's been for you and any others in the MY. Thanks again.
Congrats and thanks for watching! I had had squeaks and rattles in the past and they go away. I currently have a few but mine is a 2020. The newer Y's are tighter and quieter.
Thanks and good to know. We've been in Europe since June 2023 and when we get back to the US going to need a car. Was in Bucharest and went to the Tesla showroom to see the MY and was very impressed with the fit and finish. I believe the ones in Romania are being built in Berlin, it felt like it was built by zee Germans. Appreciate the quick response. @@Gjeebs

What were the Hankook tires on this for the 19”? I’m up soon for new tires and will be replacing factory
What do you mean what were they? Hankook ION EVO AS SUV is what I have on my 20's
Did you like the suspensions upgrade? That’s one of our few complaints on our 2020 Model Y.
the luxury suspension i got is excellent I also recommend the hankook ion evo tires they make a big difference
I have not found a better place for the garage door opener than the right side wireless charger 😂
“Get rid of the dog!” Hahaha I’m dying
This channel is first channel that made me stop hating tesla
hahaha I am glad to hear that
Changed between many, stayed on Tesla.
"wow look at that E63 Wagon" as I completely ignore stop sign.....
Can we get a 66k mile update?
Solid update video🤘🏾 I think I’m going to get that carbon dash🤌🏾
Yea it's a very nice piece I think my code in the description saves $50 too
I hated the wood too so go a carbon dash.
My bf's 2020 Model Y DM has 152,000
How has the car held up at after all of those miles? Any major issues that you can share?
I thumbs up'd the video just on the dog comment alone LOL. Thanks again for the info and the comparisons.
What about rattles? Do you have some?
Yea I have talked about them in the past. They come and go. I currently do have one that I need to locate
1:27 is it not protected with mud guards in the front?
Yes it is
Anyone else notice the uptick in anti-Tesla news lately? Saw 6 anti-Tesla/Musk sponsored stories in my Facebook feed in an hour.
Does anyone know which rims those are?
Unplugged Performance UP03's. I have a full video going into detail on them
lol to “just get rid of the dog”.
why dont you get Tesla insurance?
I don't know if anyone has had this issue with 2023 model Y. I have a passport radar detector mounted next to my rear view mirror, at night it goes crazy with laser detection alerts. I talked to tesla tech and passport about it, they never heard of this issue. Anyone else have it or know of a solution
There are infrared lights facing the inside of vehicle for night time driver monitoring. Perhaps these are causing the false positives on the radar detector at night.
I thought it was something like that as it only alarms when the car is placed in forward or reverse gear.@@Excelcior58
Welp, sorry Meatloaf. Can’t half that shedding in the car 😢
This guy is ryan reynolds of tesla
Upvoting for the “Get rid of the dog” comment!
Just get mud guards
@@Gjeebs
If Tesla actually could give you a fair trade in value, it would be best vehicle sold on the planet, BUT they DON’T 🤕😏
The hood cover looks totally crap. Why would you?
i pay 357$ a month insurance......
"Just get rid of the dog..." Yikes!!
That Camo job looks hideous
$297 every 6 months State Farm Model3
PPF is a huge waste of money.
