I have a Model 3 and everyone always sarcastically asks how inconvenient it is for me to always having to plug it into charge and for how often I have to charge compared to refilling with gas but the funny thing is these are co-workers and they don't never realized that our company supply's free EV charging. So in past year. I've only visited a gas station twice both times was grabbing a drink and I never charge at home nor have to pay at all. I've prolly have paid about $20-25 max in the 4-5 times I've used supercharging in past year.
I’ve driven my Model Y for 7 months now and I charge at home 99.9% of the time. Did the mat on my electric bill: $8.00 / full charge. Even if electricity rates were to triple, that’s only $24 / charge. Meanwhile I’m working on my solar roof and power wall setup. You just can’t deny how effective this is compared to burning Dino remains.
My Model S lost 10 miles of range in the first year and then 3 miles of range in the following 6 years. I think the initial drop in range from the EPA best case is more to do with an ongoing recalculation of range due to actual usage than battery degradation. The following years of range loss are probably all battery degradation. Great video btw you really captured the benefits so well. My Tesla is probably the best product I have ever bought.
I have had a similar experience with my teslas. I live in Mesa. The service center manager here came from Mercedes. He tries really hard and takes pride in delivering cars that don’t need to be fixed later. They do their own checklist and make all the gaps perfect.
I bought a Model Y 6 month ago and recently just sold it, it was very disappointed. I have owned most of good cars beside super car, the Model Y is the most uncomfortable, bumpy and noisy car I ever had. Quality wise, within 3 months, I brought in the car to service three times for repair, one time took them 10 days to fix. Luckily their service is near my office, I tried to forgive all these BS. At the end, the windshield got hit by a small rock on the freeway, half of windshield cracked, cost $1300 to replace, I never had such bad car before. One of main reasons I bought it is the Auto Pilot, after 5 month of experience, it is much dangerous and attention required than I thought. If you don’t mind all of the above, good luck !!
Nice video. Just wanted to point out that you can hit that 303 range with your MY, just drive it at 60mph. Air resistance work to the cubic of the speed, so going 80 (like I saw near the end of the video) is going to face about 2.4 times air resistance as going 60. Rolling resistance and all the other stuff will still be there, but the car won't be fighting the air as hard. Of course you'll arrive at your destination later, but sometimes going just 5mph slower can actually keep you from having to hit a supercharger and can end up saving you time, especially if the stalls are busy like on Thanksgiving. I also drive with my family so arriving safely is top priority and lower speeds are usually safer (although I have worn enough tires doing hot laps in my younger years). I was driving my MX 75D up to Mammoth last week in sub-freezing temps with 5 people and luggage - cutting the speed saved me 1 supercharge. It's more work, but I also avoid autopilot and manually control the throttle to avoid as much over acceleration and subsequent regen - helps to eek out the miles on those long stretches. Some people like to follow large semis but I prefer not having my windshield eat rocks or not see a blow tire shred until it's too late to swerve.
I agree that driving on auto pilot does not get as much range as me driving and that should’ve been obvious to the reviewer if you simply observe the extra little accelerations and decelerations that full self driving does to both maintain speed and to adjust the following distance for the car in front.
Great overview and I’m in totally in agreement with you - I’ve had mine just over a year now and despite much lower range than advertised (Same with all evs currently) and a few minor things it is so much more fun and practical than my previous German car and I look forward to driving it every day
The reduction in miles you are seeing is not battery degradation, it is the trip algorithms based on how you drive. Battery degradation would be a reduction of how much charge you can put in to fill a battery. If you are getting real degradation after 1 year there is a serious problem. Before a long trip put your car on charge and use the cabin pre-heat function, this will warm the batteries and give you more miles. Great video and cinematography

I picked up my 2021 Model Y Long Range in Dec. '20 also. Dec. is usually the time when the model year changes. (the 10 digit of the VIN indicates the model year.) From an investment standpoint, it always makes sense to get the newest model year you can. You didn't mention depreciation. Teslas will eventually depreciate, but at a much lower rate than other cars. I do find the suspension to be overly stiff (and I have the smaller 19" Gemini wheels). The road noise on coarse pavement could be quieter. Lots of buzzes and rattles from throughout the interior on bad roads. One last thing, about 90% of my charging is done at home, and I have solar. Everyone is complaining about $6.00 gas and I am basically driving for free. You can't beat that.

Hi Armando, I just saw your video with Geebs and I enjoyed it. I am writing to you regarding your tires. I have a late 2021 MYP which came like yours with pirelli's summer tires. I sold mine after 2000 miles and replaced them with Michelin all season pilot 4. What I also did, I went to 295/35/21 in the back and 275/35/21 in the front and it has made a great difference in the ride quality, as well as road handling because of the wider tires. Keep up your great work.
Great review Armando. I'm waiting for my Model Y to arrive here in Australia. Over here, we have a choice of two available to us, the RWD and the AWD twin motor. I've gone for the former as the performance is good enough for me - 0-100kM/Hr in 6.9. Mine is white - I only ever buy white vehicles to reflect the heat and to be safer than a lot of other colours re visibility. My interior will be black though! I already have an EV which my wife and I are keeping. The BYD Atto 3. This is a sensational smaller SUV so we're used to the huge benefits of driving an EV already. Thank you once again.
I am waiting for delivery of my MYP right now and I cannot wait to get my hands on it! This video is PERFECT for my current needs. Thank you so much Armando! As always, I am absolutely in love with your editing and presentation skills! Abrazo de gol! ❤️🚗
Your video was absolutely clear to the point and with none to less fluff. I like that and personally enjoyed it. You earned another subscriber from me. 👍🏻💯
It is quite normal for new cars / models to have same issues at the start... They all get fixed after sometime and should not keep you from buying a new car at all. The main issue with Tesla (here in Europe) is that service network is still at its first steps. The closest one to my home is 60-100mi away, parts are rarely available and take months to arrive. And even insurance companies have difficulties getting prices for spare/new parts from Tesla :)
Love what you did to the fog lights. And I really appreciate your display of range from the phone app that was very helpful. Hate seeing ppl use percentage for range. Anyway traded my Model S and expect a MYP by March 8. Can’t wait to receive it.
Man, I’m just waiting for Fremont to roll mine out! Tell me about the black fascia around your fog lights? Never seen that before and it looks REALLY good!
This was a great video! I’m still on the fence between the Lightning and Model Y. For me, it comes down to having a bigger charging network or having a bigger vehicle.
@@mondobytes that's charging tho, which can raise electrical Bill's which might not be ideal for some people. And that still doesnt defeat my point that making batteries are just as bad as ICE cars
I'll wait when there is a charge station every where like gas stations , so I don't have to sacrifice the choice of where I want to eat like you stated in the video. The Y will be the one I'll get too. Thanks for the video and your experiences with it.
Awesome video Armando. You’ve hit the nail on the head with all the pro and cons with the Model Y. I love my Y but have the same criticism as you. I love the look of your front end. Where’d you get those fog lights covers from? They look awesome.
Awesome video! Really enjoyed it especially since mines coming within the next 2/3 weeks. What mods have you done to your car? The front lip and mirror caps look great! Would love to know where you got them from
I just picked up my tesla y in about 2 weeks and I am loving it, my order son and also younger son are loving it. We will definitely have a least 3 tesla for four of us.
Wow that's crazy how much battery degradation you had over year time. Pretty scary I was thinking about getting one but I don't have a way to charge at home so I was thinking about surviving off of a supercharging but after hearing that I may have to reconsider getting one at least for now. Great video by the way
I get he is fine now but 10% loss is like 30 mile loss of range. It might seem small now but over 5 years time, that will be a significant loss of range. Or maybe he is not calculating right because i think 10% in a year is too high.
@@Fear.of.the.Dark. I don’t think he even lost any range, usually this number is estimation on driving habits, same as on ICE cars when fill the tank and the dash gives you the estimation mileage. Anyway, Tesla model 3 and y proofed that they are solid for the high mileage.
Great review, Armando! I've also only had one major problem since buying my Long Range Model Y at the end of April 2021 and that was climate control stopped working about 3 weeks after purchasing, but that was fixed at an appointment shortly after (albeit a terrible service appt in Denver). One thing that seems really odd to me is the range you're getting along with your friend. I use my Model Y to camp all around the US (mainly the West), have driven over 22,000 miles and my EPA range is 328, but in reality when testing on initial few trips I was getting around 305. That was in the spring from Nashville to Minneapolis. I then installed a cargo box and while it did drop my range considerably (around 25%), it was still around 225 which is what I currently still get with the cargo box on the roof. You do have a performance model and I have a long range, but you not getting enough to get to Las Vegas seems like maybe there's something wrong with your battery pack. Your friend also only getting 100 miles range in the winter seems really low compared to friends that live in Minneapolis and get way more. I've talked to literally hundreds of owners while on the road and never heard stories with ranges that low. Seems like maybe you guys got some duds. What does Gene say about theirs? Same? One other thing to note... You mentioned service appointments and I was just up for a tire rotation and while I could have brought it to any tire store for $20-$30 I just went in the Tesla app and booked a mobile service appt where they came to my house and rotated the tires for $50 flat. Didn't have to go anywhere and was done in about 20 minutes. So far it's been my favorite car I've ever owned. I love the performance even on the long range and Autopilot is fantastic on long trips, but savings vs gas along with Camp Mode are what won me over. Anyways... really enjoyed the review 😀
Not going to lie I'm a bit bummed that I can't reach Las Vegas on a full charge. Again, not big of a deal because even in a gas vehicle we ALWAYS stop at Barstow to eat which there's also Superchargers so it works out. But even when I've tried to do the run without stopping it always makes me charge at Baker otherwise I won't make it. So here's an embarrassing story, I too was excited that Tesla comes to your house and rotates the tires. I scheduled an appointment for them to come rotate my tires and I forgot that Performance Model Y has staggered wheels 🤦♂️ In regards to my friend I found out that his Model 3 doesn't have the newly added heat pump which makes a big difference in cold conditions.
@@mondobytes Haha! I didn't know that either about the performance tires. Live and learn. And that makes sense then with your friends Model 3 not having a heat pump and losing that much range. North Dakota winters are brutal and can't imagine the wind there helps.
@@stuartburns8657 When’s the last time you filled up for under $10? You didn’t. My last gas car got high 30’s or even low 40mph and this is way less expensive as far as gas vs electricity. Keep living in the past while the world passes you by 👋
Hello Armando, realistic review. Electric cars are essentially like giant smartphones and your comments regarding battery degradation made me think : what if somebody came up with a power bank for cars? ;-) also I'm wondering how much would it cost to change the battery and get the full range after several years of ownership. excellent video thank you 🙂
I’ve been researching Model Y for about a year now, watched tons of videos. Your video is fantastic. The composition plus your sharing of real world use cases is incredible. Kudos! I’m driving an Audi Q5 now and plan on a Y in the next several months. I may have missed it, but did you share your thoughts on the suspension? I hear it can be a bit harsh especially with the larger wheels. Thoughts? Thank you 🙏
Funny I actually did record about it but didn’t make the cut. The suspension is terrible on the performance model, I’m getting an aftermarket one. On the long range it’s fine.
I got the TMY LR. on19" The suspension is not horrible. It's not on par with at Q4 e-tron (Q4 is IMO much better than Q5) it is actually fine most of the time. bumps do go trough much harder than a Q4 and Q5. If i diud not live in northern europe, where the roads are very good i would consider not getting a TMY.
that is due to the way you drive, if you use more energy per driving cycle the car calculates the miles based on the energy you used, if you drive very conservative the car will show you more miles when you charge, doe not have anything to do with battery degradation. It is like this for other electric cars, and plug ins.
Great vid. One thing with the range. If u slow down from 75mph to 55, the consumption decreases around 30%. Weather such as rain or cold affects the range of course also, but the biggest thief is that drag. Waiting for my Y LR, and I can’t wait👍🏻
Great video! One thing I have seen mentioned in other videos was the air suspension. On those long trips or daily commutes do you feel is bumpy/uncomfortable ride at times ? Cars in this price range, like your previous Sq5, should have quality air suspension.
Model 3/Y don't have air suspension, and do have a firmer "sporty" ride. The very comfy front seats do help a lot... I don't really notice it much (model 3)... but rear get bounced slightly more. Also note, Performance models do bit worse, as they have bigger 20-21" wheels and smaller sidewall tires, which ride harder than the 18-19" default wheels and tires... (and are also more susceptible to pothole damage, too, careful!) Consider it a sport luxury vehicle, and it should be comparable... eg it's bouncier than my old minivan, but seems similar to even wife's Camry SE, let alone maybe a BMW 3 series. Best to maybe test drive yourself , to see if deal breaker for you... but the rest of the car is SO awesome, you may forgive it. Test drives are also very easy and often touchless, all done w/ your smartphone and keycards etc!
it is harsher. This is not plush ride. I have the regular X3 and I thought that had hard suspension but model y has harder suspension due to the heavier batteries.
Great video. You've got your car reviewer "stepping out of the car while talking to the camera with a pause to close the door" down perfectly. I'm waiting for my Y LR. Can't wait for the instant drama free torque, I do enjoy the drama filled acceleration in my Charger R/T, but the test drive of the Y LR proved to me there's something about the whole experience. Oh, and 120 mile range between gas station visits in the Charger are getting old!
ThankS u clear my head with Tesla my wife wanna buy the model Y she’s determine to get one I told her why? She’s like they looks nice 🤷🏻♂️😁 I can’t wait to tell her all I learn from this video 🤣🤣
@@mondobytes I think that depends on the car. I'm glad they're exposing the dealer model but these cars are padded with very healthy margins for Tesla.
@@jhavoc22 I tell you having owned many luxury brands which cost way more than my Model Y I can't say I miss them. Sure the interior quality on some of these German cars are nice but real luxury is not having to drive on these long commutes.
@@mondobytes Full self driving has padded their margins even further and it's still in beta. The most good here is disrupting the industry, but I'm just saying the markup is still alive and probably stronger than ever!
How much this car costs? 15% battery degradation if 1 year! Also getting 66% of the advertised range! Not sure if you will stay happy like you are right now, this seems like an awful investment! How much these batteries are expected to last to be practically good and how much it will cost to replace them?
03:39 That's the thing about brand new cars a lot of people don't know about. There's always something wrong with them. By the time it gets purchased used, everything that was wrong got fixed.
Pretty biased review. Yea you don't have a lot of maintenance upkeep but you do have to eventually change the battery in like 5 years and that'll run you around 10k. You're paying luxury car prices minus the luxury. Horrible quality control on the body. Charging the car is a pain in the ass if you can't do it at home, everybody is getting teslas so there are now long wait times just to charge your car at different charging stations.
Everything you said is a complete lie. Batteries are under warranty for 8 years and are good for 22+ years. Drove 22k miles in last 8 months and only had 2 times where charging was an issue and almost never have to wait at Superchargers.
It's funny because I was watching an other review of a french guy (I speak french) who bought the Model Y long range and he said that he regrets not choosing the performance model because autonomy is not a problem for him. But maybe he would regret his autonomy if he would buy the performance model like you ! The grass is always greener on the other side :D
You have a beautiful MYP! Great video...very informative. Thank you! I have the M3LR also notice range is not what was indicated when I use my heated seats, heated steering wheel and heat in general.
I’m considering a new car but I can’t get over some of the negatives highlighted. The range is simply not enough atm considering you don’t get the advertised amount and the battery always degrades over time. I’d like to be able to do a longer weekend trip and get back with a single charge before I go for one of these. Also the build quality really isn’t as good as other brands in the ones I’ve seen.
Your videos are always wonderfully created! Intro was fantastic! I believe you said that you had the mach-e as well, how did you like that compared to the model y? Have the cybertruck on reservation but really still go back and forth between the model y and the the mach-e.

One of the best Model Y reviews Ive seen. Great job man! I want one bad.
What a great video. Very smooth and well done. Enjoyable to watch
Great review. Very articulate and mature with a common sense approach.
not even halfway into the video but I can tell this is one of the most honest car reviews I have watched. Thank you
It is quite normal for new cars / models to have same issues at the start...
Great review, thank you for sharing. Our MY will arrive on February 21st, looking forward to the magic.
Love what you did to the fog lights. And I really appreciate your display of range from the phone app that was very helpful. Hate seeing ppl use percentage for range. Anyway traded my Model S and expect a MYP by March 8. Can’t wait to receive it.
This is the most complete video I came across in regards to Tesla Model Y review. Thank you!
Armando, you put a smile on my face! Thank you! It’s been a week I’ve order my model Y and cannot wait!
I just ordered my Tesla model Y yesterday! I'll be getting it in May and I cannot wait! Thanks for the information!
Lucky! I ordered mine in late Feb. and my estimated delivery date is Oct -Jan ‘23 🤦🏻♂️ Elon hates me!
Awesome video Armando
Thank you for this video. I test drove and have been thinking about it for weeks. This video sealed the deal!
Man, I’m just waiting for Fremont to roll mine out! Tell me about the black fascia around your fog lights? Never seen that before and it looks REALLY good!

Clicked to find out about Tesla, stayed for the cinematography. Amazing stuff
This was a great video! I’m still on the fence between the Lightning and Model Y. For me, it comes down to having a bigger charging network or having a bigger vehicle.
Charging network is huge, regardless of which one you decide to get it's still 100x better than gas!
Lightning. It'll be properly built. And on e you deal with Tesla service you'll think you're in a nightmare.
@@mondobytes 15% better than gas. Batteries are not really healthy for the environment either
@@Kenthetic Still way better than gas, 90% of my charging is done at home with renewable energy.
@@mondobytes that's charging tho, which can raise electrical Bill's which might not be ideal for some people. And that still doesnt defeat my point that making batteries are just as bad as ICE cars
Thanks for the review Armando. Planning to buy my first Tesla soon. Thinking in the Model Y Performance like yours
Hi! Love the mods you did on your Tesla 😍! Do you recall how much the vinyl cuts cost for the fog lights? I would like to do that for my MY!
Thanks!
Those drone shots look incredible man. And thanks for the details! Great video!
Best overall review video I've seen for Model Y. Informative and extremely well done.
Check out my pinned comment.
@@mondobytes thanks man. It’s the wrap that makes it look different. Awesome.
Thanks for this review and awesome video. I just got a Model Y about a month ago and I love it so much!!
Awesome video! Really enjoyed it especially since mines coming within the next 2/3 weeks. What mods have you done to your car? The front lip and mirror caps look great! Would love to know where you got them from
Same.
Try applying Tuff Stuff to the soiled seat and it may be your solution. I’ve used it many times to detail my vehicles and it works wonders. Good luck.
Armando-great review. Question-how do the 21” wheels feel? There are so many reviews saying that you feel the ride bumpy.. is that true?
I just picked up my tesla y in about 2 weeks and I am loving it, my order son and also younger son are loving it. We will definitely have a least 3 tesla for four of us.
Wow that's crazy how much battery degradation you had over year time. Pretty scary I was thinking about getting one but I don't have a way to charge at home so I was thinking about surviving off of a supercharging but after hearing that I may have to reconsider getting one at least for now. Great video by the way
yea 7.5% over 10K miles is not the norm.
yeah that is a lot, considering he said he charges at most 80%, not 100%
Battery warranty is 8 years, and it’s replaced if reached 70%. So he is fine.
Can’t wait to move from my condo to new house so I can buy a Tesla .. good info @Tesla 👏🏼🙌🏼
Nice review! What's the green thing at 8:27?
Looks like a QC sticker
I don't know where you are, but that's a beautiful location you're filming at!
"Watch before you buy"
This comes a bit late, getting my Y on Monday 😅
Armando, you are a great storyteller. Great video!
I scheduled an appointment for them to come rotate my tires and I forgot that Performance Model Y has staggered wheels 🤦♂️
In regards to my friend I found out that his Model 3 doesn't have the newly added heat pump which makes a big difference in cold conditions.
@@mondobytes Haha! I didn't know that either about the performance tires. Live and learn.
And that makes sense then with your friends Model 3 not having a heat pump and losing that much range. North Dakota winters are brutal and can't imagine the wind there helps.
@@bryanhauer I told the rep it’s funny how Tesla even allows you to make a reservation knowing it’s not possible. I wonder if they fixed it 🤷🏽♂️
Always curious Brian when EV owners wax lyrical about gas savings.
I'm assuming you had some 15mpg gas guzzling hog prior to owning your EV?
@@stuartburns8657 When’s the last time you filled up for under $10? You didn’t. My last gas car got high 30’s or even low 40mph and this is way less expensive as far as gas vs electricity. Keep living in the past while the world passes you by 👋
Really enjoyed your review of your first year of ownership! I crossed one year recently as well and have been enjoying my model 3 😄
Hello Armando, realistic review. Electric cars are essentially like giant smartphones and your comments regarding battery degradation made me think : what if somebody came up with a power bank for cars? ;-) also I'm wondering how much would it cost to change the battery and get the full range after several years of ownership.
excellent video thank you 🙂
…and then you’d sell people another car to cart the battery pack around in ?
Its the greatest car in production today. Congrats!
Thank you for this reasonable, fair and non-hype-y review!
Great review, Armando. 🥇B-roll is top-notch.👌
Great answers guys, thank you very much. 👍
One of the best reviews I’ve seen on the model Y
Losing 23 miles per year bc of Battery degradation is scary. Thanks for sharing that note!!
that is due to the way you drive, if you use more energy per driving cycle the car calculates the miles based on the energy you used, if you drive very conservative the car will show you more miles when you charge, doe not have anything to do with battery degradation. It is like this for other electric cars, and plug ins.
I knew what kind of video this would be when i seen you hop out with the hoodie on.
Great vid. One thing with the range. If u slow down from 75mph to 55, the consumption decreases around 30%. Weather such as rain or cold affects the range of course also, but the biggest thief is that drag.
Waiting for my Y LR, and I can’t wait👍🏻
One of my favorite reviews. Great job!
(and are also more susceptible to pothole damage, too, careful!)
Consider it a sport luxury vehicle, and it should be comparable... eg it's bouncier than my old minivan, but seems similar to even wife's Camry SE, let alone maybe a BMW 3 series.
Best to maybe test drive yourself , to see if deal breaker for you... but the rest of the car is SO awesome, you may forgive it.
Test drives are also very easy and often touchless, all done w/ your smartphone and keycards etc!
@@cgamiga thank you for your response
it is harsher. This is not plush ride. I have the regular X3 and I thought that had hard suspension but model y has harder suspension due to the heavier batteries.
@@Fear.of.the.Dark. it’s not the batteries it’s the suspension set up. Other EV s of the same size have much better ride comfort.
Great video on the model Y! I like how you presented the information on ownership. Very good 👍
With the performance Y, how rough is the ride? How often are tires changed out?
Getting one in a few days, your review has helped overall mindset on purchasing. Thanks
Great video Armando! thank you for touching base on most of the question I had. and good job to the b roll footage.
Best car I’ve ever owned. Won’t ever go back to anything else.
Agreed
That front bumper around the fog lights looks awesome
You don't pay the dealer markup, you pay the Tesla markup lol.
Considering what this car features, it’s way less than what other gas vehicle offers.
Best review I've seen. Well done! Makes me wish I ordered a white one instead of blue ;)
Lol I can assure you that you never want to buy a used car of mine.
@@mondobytes Thanks for the heads up.
Great review! Just purchased my model Y! It’s be here next month😊
Congrats!
Beautiful. My wife gets her MYLR next week and I get my MYP the following!
Love the review.. Great B-rolls and consistent audio..
But I am curious about the suspension (ride quality)..
On the performance model it’s too rough, I personally don’t like it
You have a beautiful MYP! Great video...very informative. Thank you! I have the M3LR also notice range is not what was indicated when I use my heated seats, heated steering wheel and heat in general.
Great Video! I did thumbs up! where did you get those grey side mirror cap and skirt under the front bumper? those look sick..
That was a superb review! Thank you and best wishes.
Great review, Armando! We’re renting a Model Y Performance in LA next week!
I have owned 20+ BMW’s and have never had any issues in year one
I’m considering a new car but I can’t get over some of the negatives highlighted. The range is simply not enough atm considering you don’t get the advertised amount and the battery always degrades over time. I’d like to be able to do a longer weekend trip and get back with a single charge before I go for one of these. Also the build quality really isn’t as good as other brands in the ones I’ve seen.
Amazing video! Helped me decided on buying a model y.
👊🏽 Congrats bro! You’re going to love this car
Probably a ways away from owning a Tesla, but this was a really cool in depth video and I learned a lot about it that I didn't know.
Your videos are always wonderfully created! Intro was fantastic!
I believe you said that you had the mach-e as well, how did you like that compared to the model y? Have the cybertruck on reservation but really still go back and forth between the model y and the the mach-e.
