I messed up the settings during the tiling step and somehow ended up creating a golfball. Not the intention but still pretty cool. *UPDATE:* So for anyone else who runs into the same issue, the problem for me was in the "Apply the value to the clones" section. Specifically, it was the "color" option that gave me the golfball effect. For whatever reason, I had to select "size" and "opacity" to get the desired effect, rather than "size" and "color" as instructed in the video. Noting for reference in case anyone is smarter than me and knows why the discrepency: I'm on an M1 mac working with Inkscape 1.2.1. I believe I have all default settings enabled -- I just started using the program yesterday, I don't think I've touched any configuration that would affect this.
I was stuck on the tile clone part of this (like some). After a week of poking around and trying everything, I finally thought about resetting the app (Preferences/System/Reset Preferences) - restarted the app, tried it - and it worked exactly as described in the tutorial. Thanks for the fun tutorial.
Man big compliment to you channel. I started to learn graphic stuff with gimp and after 2 Months i found your channel. You enhanced my skills in only 1 week extremly, soon i will make a honor video for all those great tutorial channels, who helped me to start my own youtube channel, and you mate will get a real big section :D
Hey Nick, do you have any videos of how you edit and apply the logo afterwards? For example, in the thumbnail of this video it looks like the logo is on a business card. It would be a good tool in order to showcase work to businesses in the same way they would apply it.
Thank you 🙏. Trust me all your videos are very inspiring, because it has motivated me back to my love which is graphics and design. Keep up the good work
What I did not understand was how did Inkscape know on what reference it was going to clone the circle? That is how did it know that it had to clone it on the blurred circle? Maybe I will find it out by myself with time...
It's based on the width and height specified in the settings of the tiled clones menu. It uses the X and Y axis of the document. I set it to 400x400 pixels, then it traced everything within a 400x400 area starting from top left to bottom right.
Also got blurred clones. Everything under settings was identical to the tutorial. Drove me nuts. Then I tried unchecking the "Color" under point 3. "Apply the value to the clones' " and just used size it worked. Hope it help you too.
Loving your content! Great videos. I particularly like this one. When I get some time my channels are going to get new logo and imagery courtesy of your inspiring and easy to follow videos! Watch this space! Hahaha.... Really appreciate you putting this stuff out there free for us to learn. Keep up the good work. Thanks again
hi nick, i learned so much from your videos the past years and it's becaus of you i use inkscape today. thank you so much for your effort. keep going on. some shabby locking stuff would be nice.
Thanks for sharing - I’d been looking for a good way to do halftone in Inkscape. Did you know the text border effect can be done without the extra copy? The paint order under the stroke options has one where the fill covers the stroke so you don’t end up with stroke intruding over the fill.
Hi Nick! I have a question about Inkscape... why it *never* saves my Dockables positions? It kinda bugs me that everytime I open a new file or create one, I have to reorganize my dockables 😒
Hi Nick, I'm only 2 days unguided into inkscape and I have found the blessing that is your channel. Reason I'm sending a comment is I can't seem to find the custom tab. I only just downloaded it if that helps.
Why is the White square used? and how did inkscape know to create the clones in the circular pattern? I was wondering what setting made the clone exactly like the blurred circle
Thanks so much for the video. do we need to make Object to Path every time ? I thought "object to path" is only needed when you want to alter each node individually. Not sure if I am correct?
What was the reason for having a black font under the green one before adding the stroke and shadow), I was expecting you wanted to scale it down to be organic borders
I tried recreating this, but sadly I failed at 4:47. The cloning did do some work and the interface says that 300 clones were created, but they simply do not show up, I am left with the small circle, the black blurred circle and the white square in the background. All steps were replicated, so I am not sure what I did wrong here.
Help! After cloning the small circle I got that pattern but when I change the color of the original small circle the pattern is having black circles with smaller circles of the changed color.
I've learned a ton from watching your vids, thanks Nick. One question, why did you duplicate the first set of letters instead of just giving them a stroke width?
I think that he did that to make like a shadow effect, just giving them a stroke would produce a stroke that is symetrical, while duplicating makes the shadow assymetrical and more like a real shadow i think
Wonderful tutorial. I dont use Inkscape but after seeing this tutorial it seems that I will have to as I could not find this halftoning effect creation option in Coreldraw 2017 suite!!
just started using inkscape thanks to you Nick. Might seem like a dumb question, but once I download the font, how do I get it into Inkscape? Is it just a simple close and restart and the font is there? Thanks for the tutorials!
Your tutorials are really good. Could you GIMPify this video please? That'd be terrificous. Inkscape is no longer compatible with MAC OS. Just tried downloading 0.92.2 and 0.91.1...no dice.
How do you create this comic effect to color in a character? Old school comic style painting! Thank you for these tutorials by the way. I am a physically disabled artist and have found your tutorials extremely helpful in adapting my artwork. Thank you so much!
I have inkscape 1.2.2 and it does not work, instead of creating this background from circles, it says in brackets that it does not respond. " does not answer "

Can this work on gimp too? The dot pattern seems a slight complicated to me but I love the look. I like making logos, is Inkscape much better for this. I’m used to using gimp 2.8 but going to another program like Inkscape I have to learn another program.😩
Hi there Nick! First of all, I would like to say THANK YOU for all the tutorial videos that you put on UA-cam. They are really helpful. I just started learning actually, so I'm trying to pick up as much as I can. But I have a request for you.. Would you be so kind (maybe also make a tutorial out of it) and make a 3D bow tie design, because I would like to take my learning a bit further and translate it to a CAM, for the reason of ''test'' machining? Thank you soo much and have a great day!
Great tutorial as usual Nick. When I clone my little circle, and hit Create Tiled Clones, all it does is create 3 other tiny ciclres next to the one I'm cloning.. I can't figure out what I'm missing/dong wrong..???
Hello, Nick, I loved this tutorial just like every single one of others. I have just a technical question here to better understand this tutorial and this cloning technique. I am having a little difficulty understanding the reason behind why you created that white square behind that blurred circle and can you please explain in your words how did this small circle changed into this pattern? Thanks as always. @Logos By Nick
I also wondered. My assumption is that it's used to place the first tile at the right location, at the top left angle, while the rectangle is centered along with the cercle. It might grant that the tiles are well centered and symmetric.
Hey Nick, I'm having this issue with the new theme where some of the text seems to be replaced by a downwards arrow. When I go into document properties, and go to set the display units to px, the ui is messed up and I can't change it. Instead of a dropdown there is just the triangle in an ellipse. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
That rectangle is a representation of a page which is important if you're going to print the result. Some people (okay, me) layout newsletters and posters in Inkscape and it's good to know that you're fitting on the standard page. As Daris says, File> Document Properties and click on Show page border to toggle it off or on. Nick does this at the beginning of the video.
when i create the tiled clones, my inkscape times out for much, much longer 2 minutes. i waited well over 10 minutes and then terminated inkscape. what processor are you using?
i7 6700k, but it shouldn't be taking that long. Maybe the circle you are using is too small, meaning Inkscape has to generate even more of them. Try using a bigger circle.
Nick, you are surely one of the reasons why people are able to use inkscape.
Yes veri
yes very true
