I like Nick's videos because when he's doing these type of videos, he sneaks in multiple tutorials in one vid. Now you know how to make a shield, stars, and more!
great video, I tried to follow but Inkscape from 5 years ago with the new version not getting same result. I'm lost 3:58 minute stroke to path. Thank you Nick
Great video. I'm always happy to watch your tutorials as they have no distracting music playing in the background as you tutor. It is quite easy to focus plus you don't impose your music preferences to everyone else as a result of watching your tutorials. I am really grateful.
Tip to people following along in 2020, not sure if this is the right way of doing it but if you're having trouble with all the path steps not separating objects properly try I selecting objects and strokes using the 'edit paths by node' selector instead of the normal 'select objects and transform' selector
At around 4:00 when you do stroke to path my "fill" of the shield does not go away. When I then try to do path > break apart it says: No paths to break apart in the selection. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? Thanks
since I'm early there's something I wanna ask for. what about a series of a long video about the whole logo design process, presentation and delivery to the client? I think that would be super helpful if you do have the time for it, Nick. great video btw ;)
I have just started playing with Inkscape and love your tutorials. One thing though is it not easier to make a triangle by choosing polygons and then three sides.
Hi Nick, Pretty new to this and am following using Fedora, latest inkscape. When I get to 3:15 on your video about breakaprt so you have the middle separate from the stroke mine will not break apart and if I continue to follow I end up having 3 stroke lines and instead of having the single white solid line between the fill area and the stroke. I know I am probably missing something silly here however could you help me out with this or anyone who knows what this is as i have been trying to find out why i can't follow as you do. Great video and hope I can get over this hurdle. Thanks.
According to other comments, this seems to be an 1.0 issue. If you have the time to report this bug to the developers, please do it! This new version seems *very* glitchy though.
Pedro Paulo Suzuki I did post it on the forum and found a work around for some reason if I remove the fill and start with just the stroke then when get to the “break apart” part of the video it works, the fill area appears.
I always appreciate these videos. Watching your videos has helped me tremendously with learning Inkscape. I've been able to apply those skills to design stencils that we create and sell, so I really appreciate the content. Thanks, from one Nick to another.
hey there.....i wanted to say that in my inkscape,,,the step...stroke to path + break apart is not working....i dont know why....CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME??
The solution I found was before the "stroke to path" part, you go to fill and no paint, then you can do the "stroke to path" and "break apart" part, and below the path button you can find some buttons that can bring the object to front and back.
Jim Jimmy's got solution. 1. After setting the red stroke to 25 px, you need to remove the fill by either clicking on the [ X ] at the bottom of Inkscape or going to Fill > [x] in the "Fill and Stroke" panel. 2. Now you can do Path > Stroke to Path 3. Path > Break Apart
I love this, very concise and to the point, no time wasted at all. So much learned off the bat from just one video, I'm loving Inkscape already, Thank you!
Hey Nick! Really appreciate your videos and I've even subscribed to your academy. Slowing getting through it. One of the problems I am having and I've had doing other tutorials is around the 4 minute mark when I do stroke to path, nothing happens. I have no idea why and I've restarted the video a number of times to make sure I'm not missing a step. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hi MJ, unfortunately there has been a change to the way stroke to path works in the latest version of Inkscape. I have a video with a quick fix for it here: ua-cam.com/video/Sy0nUkUt9CA/v-deo.html
@@LogosByNick At new version Stroke To Path then Ungroup makes inner object getting bigger and overlay to the outer one it creats problem when cutting center color.

Now I'm stuck again at 4:00 mark which is the Stroke to Path and Break apart. When I clicked those, nothing happens. It just says at the bottom: "No Stroked Paths in the Selection". I also noticed that when I did that, the stroke width that I set to around 22 goes back to around 3.7 at the Stroke Style but the actual stroke is still 22 thick and you can't adjust it anymore. . It's so annoying when you thought it's fairly easy to do.
Hello Nick, I'm following your tutorial, But however, When I go to stroke to path, my grey shape does not delete itself. I have ver 1.0.1. I was hoping you can help me out figuring out whats going on. Other than that everything is working fine.
On Inkscape 1.0, that is no longer the case. They changed it to make it easier to handle objects with fill and stroke data, so that users would not need to keep duplicating objects each time just to keep their previous fill data.
This is a very useful channel, glad I've found it. I'm quite proficient with CorelDRAW, but I've been meaning to switch to Inkscape for years. While Inkscape is deficient when it comes to certain features, it has two huge advantages over Corel: it's free, and it works on Linux. CorelDRAW is one of the few programs that keeps me dependent on Windows, so I'm willing to lose some features just to move to Linux full time.
Around 4:20 when I take the outer shape and stroke it, it creates a stroke around the inner perimeter of the shape as well. I even tried the newer method you posted about the Object>ungroup instead of the Path>break apart
I'm following along with Inkscape 1.1.2 but the Stroke to Path / Break Apart step isn't working for me. I know this video was posted back in 2018. Is there an alternate method to achieving the same thing?
