hi, instead of using the tedious cut-path approach I guess the simplest way is to use path-> difference. For that we can draw a vertical line(the longer line here at 10:13 ). Convert its stroke to path . Rotate and replicate the longer lines to create the radial-lines pattern (seen at 12:05). Select all these lines and perform path->union. Select the unified path and duplicate it. Move the duplicate to the right to create the dashed lines radial pattern. Scale down and reduce the opacity of the duplicate. Then we can draw a circle. Give it a sufficient stroke width, say 20px. Then convert the stroke to path. Align this at the center of the pattern. Select this and the radial pattern and the perform path-> Difference.. Finally when cutting the star shape at the center, we just need to perform path->difference if we follow this, instead of cutting and removing each segment manually
Thank you so much, you're amazing. I needed a decent software for my Windows 7 computer that has no internet and Inkscape is running like a dream but I don't know how to use it. Your tutorials are incredible! I love them!!
I’m excited to learn another program for the first time in a long time... this is one of the best tutorial styles I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched a lot of them. Thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge Nick! You’re a gifted and natural teacher.
i just want to say thank you so much for you inkscape tutorials! i never had a reason to use that software, and then i needed to create a logo and gimp (what i'm familiar with) was just not working for me, and i used inkscape instead and followed a couple of your tutorials and i FINALLY have something i can work with and i'm making progress. thank you so much!
Inkscape uses the font installed on your OS. Free Serif is already loaded into Windows 7 by default. To verify, open the Fonts folder in Windows 7, open the Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization, and then select Preview, delete, or show and hide fonts. The load the fonts to the fonts folder
Thanks for the great video! I just bought a bunch of your logo bundles. I have an eye for design and love helping clients with their branding...but don't have the time to learn how to make the basic shapes from scratch. You will save me a lot of time! THANKS!
Wow a powerful tool if you know what you are doing. Freaking nightmare if you don't. I.e. hours of trying different things to get one line of text - lucky we have Nick
I created a vintage logo to use as a watermark in y/t videos, but it only remotely appears like the one you did in the tutorial. I ran into a few complications (which I always do), and decided not to go back to see what step I missed. I just kept going and I'm happy with the results. I took it into GIMP and added a square background with 20% opacity. Finally, y/t excepted it. Now I gotta make some videos for my new watermark. LOL Thanks for being there for us Nick. Your tutorials are all top-shelf material.
you probably dont give a shit but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Brodie Gianni thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Thanks for the very good video. I am using Inkscape1.2.1. When I make stroke to path only, the functions from Union to cut path do not work. Can you please help? Thanks.
Outstanding video as usual Nick! Now that I've been learning the various tools and functions in the tools and commands bars in Inkscape through your Master Course, I'm much more able to keep up with your pace during these videos and understand when, where, and why you use the various tools to get the results you are trying to achieve during the design process. I am interested in getting your little guides to accompany the courses that I've been taking in your Master Class. Thanks for providing such good teaching and clear explanations in your You Tube tutorials and the Master Class as well. BTW, to anyone interested in getting a more in-depth understanding of the greater details of how and why each tool or function does what it does in Inkscape or GIMP, I recommend purchasing Nick's Inkscape and/or GIMP Master Classes. Thanks again Nick... RJR Tucson, AZ
Hey Nick, why don't you use the grid function in inkscape to take care of symmetry n measurements?? Any specific reason why you use other objects against the subject line a written ruler on the canvas for measurements n symmetry?? Love your videos btw, learning a lot
Hey man, for some reason when I choose cut path, it doesn't cut where the lines on the star are, it cuts around the square perimeter of the star. Can't figure out where I went wrong.
My Inkscape isn’t set up like yours for some reason, did you customize your layout? Also, when I click the text to bring up the box on the right, nothing happens. It wouldn’t let me space out my letters either so I couldn’t scale the bottom text to be the same size as the top. Can you help me with this? Great video by the way. Love the way you explain things.
I can't believe how easy you just made this seem. I'm trying to design a logo with a crest for my business. Is there are way to import crest and banners to manipulate like you just did with Inkscape? Thanks for sharing!
It fills in the empty spaces he put in the star before. (The nautical star type design) That way when he does cut path to the group of lines underneath it cuts out the full star shape. Hope that makes sense, it's hard to explain this stuff through text.
I don't get it ! - for some reason my "with inkscape" text disappear when I click on the 'Flip selected objects horizontally'-button instead of getting inside the circle ! btw, what if I wanted the "with inkscape" text to stay on the outside of the circle and wrap around from there instead ?
Seems that you do every logo on PX format, why is that? and can you change them to a printing version? is it just by changing them to IN size or something else to export?.. Thanks!
Hello, how much do you charge for simplistic logos? I already have been playing around with photoshop with what I have in mind and just really need it vectorized in illustrator.
Great tutorials. The problem with your intro/outro is that the base song, Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" is in the key of A-flat, whereas when the 808 kick comes in, it's in the key of F, giving a most unpleasant discordant tri-tone effect. I realize I'm probably the only one this bothers! LOL
THANK YOU THANKY YOU THANK YOU ....I'm using a MacBook , when wrapping text to path and moving the text around, sometime the circle disfigures and turns in to an eclipse. tried shift and control but I'm not getting something right, any thoughts?? thanks
Are you rotating the text or the circle? You'll have to rotate the circle if you want to rotate the text. Rotating the text object will mess up the whole thing.
Hey Nick! Amazing tutorials. I love 'em. Just wanted to ask one thing. Do Photoshop GFX Packs work with GIMP? Please answer. And Thanks for answering. Love from India BTW.
I don't get any sound only pops - guess there is sound and it's the tube of U playing silly buggers. shame as wanted to watch this one but hard to follow with no audio.
Have you thought about doing Coreldraw tutorials? Nobody explains the vidoes the way you do. It makes creating logos etc very easy. Please start making coreldraw tuts.
I have been following your tutorials for a while and they are awesome but I think you should also ask the people to participate in the tool's community to seek help at places like reddit as commenting here and waiting for a reply can be tedious. Nick, great tutorial indeed as usual. I learned more, starting to feel confident with methods. Thanks a bunch!
Watching someone of your mastery level using a graphical program with such ease, makes me feel relaxed. Love your videos, keep them up! Respect!
This one was good and still relevant in 2022.
thanks nick for reigniting my graphics curiosity, creativity and understanding i had long time ago
GREAT one... One of my favorites so far.
NICK . YOU ARE THE BEST !
Brilliant, clever...thanks so much for this -so- educational tutorial!

Nick could you make a vintage racing logo tutorial?
wow your videos are golden
i need your full course about inscape bro.
i have seen above approx. 50 logo videos.
I'm so glad I found this channel, it improved my designs and workflow in a few days. Thank you.

@Brodie Gianni It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
@Leo Jaxxon You are welcome xD
Your videos are a relaxing mix of tutorial and ASMR !! Like :D
* If there is any spelling mistake in my text, it is Google Translator's fault ;D
3rd video in same week, wow!
Yes, trying to ramp up production. I think UA-cam pretty much kicks you out of the algorithm if you're only uploading once per week (or less.)
hopefully you will upload same amount of videos every week :)

Same here
Wow!!! I am shocked to be able to do it. You teach great!!!
Nothing happens when I click part union for the star
Fabulous ! I've learned so much thank you!
Nice video. Clear instructions. What is the difference between Path Combine and Path Union? I have always been confused about that.
There's subtle differences. In practical terms union is ideal for paths, combine is ideal for strokes.
please give me version programe inkscape are you working on
Thanks for the perfect tutorial, this helped me a lot.💻
Hi Nick, congratulations for your exellent criativity.
free serif Not available! Why
how to get my inkscape setup look like yours?
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks a bunch for the videos! I reference them often when I'm making a T-shirt design or logo!
Thanks Nick great videos! Re star cut out I can't get the Cut Path command to work. Anyone have any words of wisdom there?
Thank you 🙏
Can you download and use a specific text type
Thanks for posting all the videos.
Awesome video. Struggled with the star cutout toward the end but other than that, thank you!
I am stuck there as well, I can't get the Cut Path command to work. Is that where you got stuck by any chance?

The path cut path does not work for the star
Just amazing bro! infinite thanks for putting this here. Looking forward to see what would I learn next. Keep it up!
Any idea why my circle distorts after I put the 1st text to path?
I can't believe how easy you just made this seem. I'm trying to design a logo with a crest for my business. Is there are way to import crest and banners to manipulate like you just did with Inkscape? Thanks for sharing!
with the star...why do you break apart then union?? Love the tutorials btw

Have you heard of gravit design? would you be interested in using the software? and to make videos about it?
For some reason when you scaled up the green star, it became slightly lower than the red star. Not sure what caused it, but something to look out for.
I came here for Ctrl + Space !
