I began designing my own card/board game a few months back and eventually got to the point where I needed to begin designing the actual cards (written-on blank cards are great, but not quite the aesthetic publishers are looking for). I studied graphic design in Uni over 10 years ago and ended up not taking a career in it so lost a lot of my knowledge but have always had the itch to get back into it. Designing my own game was the perfect way to do this and I have to say a MASSIVE thank you for all the videos you have posted regarding using Inkscape. I have watched so many now and each one always teaches something new, even it is as simple as 'paste width'. I have never come across a much better tutorial on UA-cam no matter the subject, and although you are obviously so knowledgeable about using the programme you are amazing at keeping things at a workable pace. Again, thank you for making my journey back into graphic design that much easier and if my game ever makes it to store shelves then you will be certainly getting a mention in the manual. Thanks Nick and keep up the brilliant work!!!!
OMG I have watched many of your video's on inkscape and just learned "Paste Size" Why have I not know that before? lol Thank you again for doing these!
Having come from Illustrator over to Inkscape, your tutorials have really helped me be able to make the transition, and I really appreciate them. You did a shield a few months back, and I followed the tutorial to make a shield logo for my band that we're using on merch and promotional materials. Keep up the good work. Really enjoyed this one!

Hey Nick, seems like they have changed some stuff. time 12:38. Path: Stroke to path, break appart, Union. Tried this 10 x, it does not work. Eventually drew the shapes again, on the side, and again, that part of the video does not work. (Inkscape 1.2)

When I use Path Difference at 8:15 it doesn't give me the white border, it just deletes the red stroke all together. I've gone through the video multiple times and I cant tell what I am doing that could be causing this. Any ideas?
Figured out its my stroke that doesn't seem to work when I press difference. It just deletes the stroke but has no effect on the difference. Unsure of how to fix this.
Hi Nick! Thank you for these great tutorials. I'm using the new version 1.0 and I cannot break apart the rectangle shape from the stroke. I'm stock in that part of the tutorial. At the bottom, it says "No paths to break apart in the selection". After I had converted the object to path and duplicated the rectangle and added the stroke... basically, followed step by step. I started everything from scratch over and over again. Can you please help?
I had to use the Nodes selector (N) in order to follow up and use Difference on the paths. I don't know why, but at least I could continue to follow up.
Hi You should try stroke to path, insted of using break apart use difference then union. it will work I am also using the latest version 1.1 i hope it will help you

Ok so i followed step by step on the video exactly as you are doing but when trying to create the gaps on the ribbon, i click path>difference but nothing happens. What is going on?
I don't get why path difference/union only works sometimes. Got to the point at 15.07 where you turn the border red and my duplicate is an entire shape filled in not the border.
hello sir i really like your videos i watched them all lool, thank you so much for your efforts, i would like to ask you where can i find this version of Inkscape please !
Hey buddy, really getting a lot out of your videos. Just joined up with your classes on GIMP and Inkscape. Was wondering if you could possibly do a tutorial on making a 'chic' style logo at some stage. Y'know, for a beauty salon type thingy?
Can anyone explain the process of Stroke to path -> Break apart -> Union/Difference ? I understand stroke to path just converts the rectangle into a path object and Union or Difference are just path operations, but why is the break apart step necessary? Aren't the rectangles separate anyway?

12:34 breaking and path union - I had trouble here for ages despite several repeats and looping the video. I found out why (in case anyone else having the same problem) ... Outer border stroke to path appears to work fine but the next step (break apart) fails because (in my set up at least) the stroke to path step created a GROUP of two objects which must be ungrouped before the break apart step will work. Inserting the un-group step makes it work as demonstrated. No idea why mine creates a group while the video appears not to but it was frustrating until I discovered the reason for the problem. Incidentally, I should have paid more information to the information bar beneath the canvas as it tells you what selected items are composed of - definitely keep an eye on it, it will help you solve problems much faster.
I have also tried and replayed these steps (stroke to path, break apart, union for each border) over and over. Super frustrated. Can't figure out why it's not behaving the same as in your tutorial given that I've followed the same steps. I am also seeing that stroke to path creates a group automatically and will make sure to try your ungroup rec in my next attempt! Thanks
Hi Nick. This turned out to be a major drag. I thought I solved the problem with Stroke to Path -> Break Apart by using new offset feature. Little did I know, you use Break Apart later on with boxes around the text. The offset thing doesn't work here.
I was having the same issue because was save the texture and then converted it by using the Path tool to Trace Bitmap. Try using the original Texture image by clicking and dragging it over, like in the video
