I think younger viewers might not appreciate this, but despite the dated style of filming and scoring, this is really an above-average fight scene. There's some real athleticism here thanks to Lazenby's martial arts background.
+Dwight Sora i agree but to be honest i find this film timeless and very beautiful.. infact this is my favorite of all the bond films.. where would you guys rank it?
Well excuse us for not being around in the 60s. Can't help what generation we're born in. We know what we know based on when we're born & we appreciate & like what we're given as we grow up.
With hindsight, OHMSS easily stands up as one of the best in the series. And it certainly had one of the greatest movie scores of all time. John Barry at his very best
Probably the best bond film of all time - George Lazenby managed to pull this one off and should have been given another chance. At the need of the day it is all about good script/casting and direction - Wish I could say the same for skyfall
For an inexperienced actor, Lazenby did a great job. Just like Daniel Craig, he performed most of his own stunts. Roger Moore was good, but toward the end of his tenure you could easily spot the stunt double. George is still a very underrated Bond.
+Giovanni Alckmim Russo As Moore is my favorite 007, I can't say that he would have been better. However I do believe that he would have been an excellent Bond and his relative youth...he was 30 at the time....would have allowed him to effectively play the role up to and including 1989's "Licence to Kill".
Lord Fand Angus The role of Bond is not only fight scenes. Besides having performed good scenes of action, Roger Moore - especially from ''The Spy Who Loved Me''- was the right man at the right time (except ''A View to a Kill'').
RavingRabbidsball also Lazenby served in the Australian Army as an unarmed combat instructor, while Connnery and Craig both just use brute strength and some form of martial arts similar to judo
Im a huge fan of Lazenby's interpretation of Bond in this film. He did a great job for not being an actor and even though some don't care for what he said at the final part of the beach fight I think it's what helped make the scene what it is.
The music when they beagn to fight, was in my head when i got beaten up a few weeks ago. I tried to defent me, but it where four guys, and one on them had a wooden stick. My wounds where not very bad, but it didn't feel good. When that incident happened, i only could think to this scene.
But here's the thing, Lazenby (not just in OHMSS) is considered a Bruce Lee archetype of actors. Compared to Craig, Lazenby is all about an agile and fast-paced style of fighting. Connery and Craig however tend to focus more on brute strength and tends to rely on lethal attacks or getting a weapon to kill their opponent. Plus Lazenby is the only Bond actor under the age of 30 to fill in the shoes of an Eon Production Bond flick which gives him a huge advantage.
Very short, sharp quick editing and sometimes missing little sections make these fight scenes so epic, its common in ohmss and what once again makes this film one of the best
I can't believe this comment. This is so much better than "above average". OHMSS is the best shot, edited and performed Bond. No contest. Even modern masters like Nolan and Soderburgh think it the best film in the series for those reasons.
Shame he didn't carry on as Bond. Better scripts and decent haircut were his letdown. More brutal and physically powerful than either Moore and Brosnan
I saw this film when it came out at Christmas 1969. Seeing this opening, and knowing nothing about George Lazenby, I told myself, “This is going to be good!” I was right! The film remains my favourite, and Lazenby my favourite Bond. This fight scene is a Bond classic. Some critics were nasty to Lazenby, even critical of the editing, calling it messy and “erratic.” (Big experts!) Little did they know that, thanks to director Peter Hunt, it was intended to heighten the action. The same goal he had as editor of “From Russia With Love,” including that superb fight on the train!
i know so many people will disagree, but he was and remains my favourite Bond ! He stepped into an almost impossible role, and was the one to carry the story forward in a real way, rather than special effects. Also, he was the first believable version of the character, as opposed to the fairy tale version that preceded him, and all the rubbish that carried on after him.how sad it is, that he did not get achance to carry on the role for whatever reason......WE WAS ROBBED!
@nza8888 I agree completeley. But poor Lazenby was duped out of making more. It was his agent's fault. Although I wonder why he didn't sign a new contract...
Just out of interest for those who think this fight looks silly go and read the new issue of Empire magazine. It has a section about this film and says that because Lazenby wasn't an actor and had no prior knowledge of screen fighting he actualy was punching those guys! Makes this scene even more awesome if you ask me :)
I wonder if anybody ever noticed that Lazendy was completely dried up right before the opening credits started even though he had been fighting in the water and soaking wet.
This film is the best of every movies james bond.this secuence fight is the best movie james bond.this is the best Prologue our pre-tittle secuences of james bond.s29112014=10=18.
Oh I couldn't disagree more. Lazenby had all the qualities of a leading man, a real charmer, and one hell of a fighter. I respect Moore for doing his own thing but he was more of a lover and a comic than a killer. Connery was the man, number one for sure. Brosnan is the worst in my book. He had nothing going on for him except looking good in a tuxedo. He was rehash of Roger Moore expect that he was not nearly as good at delivering one liners.
Graig is good for the role. Brosnan, Dalton (must play in ''A View to a Kill'') Moore, was the right men at the right time and Connery is Bond for the 60s early 70s viewers. The one hell of a fighter is not enough to be Lazenby the Bond that the movie needed. Looks and plays like a bodyguard, or Bond in the early years. We forget that the film was shot as in the book, and Bond is an experienced man in the book as well as in the sixth film of the series.
Why is that a disagreement about Lazenby? The OP is NOT say that Lazenby was not a good Bond, it said he was an idiot for, essentially, quitting the role. And I agree with that, he was an idiot.
Great fight but the final "this never happened to the other fella" line at the end ruins it a bit for me. I always involuntarily cringe when I hear it.
the 'other fellow' comment is a plug by Harry & Cubby. Meaning this isn't Sean & this Bond falls in love & gets married for real. Just EON's sly way of seeing if we pay attention.
its funny though, cus people could say the same about Timothy Dalton....then again Daniel Craigs bond is JUST like him, and in today's age it seems there more accepting of that version of bond then they where in the 80s, and it's more closer to the books too so i've herd, minus the blonde hair >..
Of all the elements from the older Bond films, I don't believe that the action scenes are better in comparison with the new ones. The Brosnan and Craig ones have better action for sure in my opinion. Due to better choreography, and due to how much Cinematography has improved since. However, I think that the Brosnan and Craig ones lack the cool spy feel that the Connery films have.
don't hate me her but i never really liked conarry because he pays bond off like a movie star and if he was in this film it will suck lazenby was a very good bond to me because it all maters on how close they are to the bond in the novels in fact they almost got the book to the word hers moy list on bond 1.dalton 2.lazenby 3.craig 4.conarry 5.moore 6.brosein
Kissy makes a point "Think again please. You gave false name to priest...." So it was the appearance of marriage. Besides when would a piece of paper stop Bond?
Lazenby is such a joke and makes a mockery of bond in this hilarious fight scene. He has no acting ability whatsoever. The one time James Bond became a comedy
I disagree. By that time, Connery had had enough of the Bond franchise and I doubt he would have put his heart into it. The only reason he agreed to come back for Diamonds Are Forever is that they paid him an amount of money about equal to the gross national product of Romania to do it. And his lack of enthusiasm for continuing in the role REALLY showed in that film.
trwent Connery must play in O.H.M.S.S. I would say the same and if Lazenby or any one else played in the previous 5 films, had the same success and was Bond for the viewers. As for what they say about Connery, that he is bored, this can work in favor of the film. An agent tired of his job finds happiness in love and marriage.
Jonh Bolier The script of this film is based on the book. Bond in the book is not a relatively young, infinite and vulnerable man, but (like the actors in the other roles) a mature man with experience.
this scene sucked... dont kid yourself oldies.. lazenby was the worst bond ever while Dalton is the best! This fight scene is way worse than anything Connery did. Don't blame dated style of filming for that. The only thing good about the movie is the OHMSS opening song
I think younger viewers might not appreciate this, but despite the dated style of filming and scoring, this is really an above-average fight scene. There's some real athleticism here thanks to Lazenby's martial arts background.
+Dwight Sora It was really good indeed.
+Dwight Sora i agree but to be honest i find this film timeless and very beautiful.. infact this is my favorite of all the bond films.. where would you guys rank it?
John - 007 Files Well, I don't know. It's not one my favorites, but it's not bad either. It's kinda better than Roger Moore movies.
Well excuse us for not being around in the 60s. Can't help what generation we're born in. We know what we know based on when we're born & we appreciate & like what we're given as we grow up.
Maybe the editing was not very good to appreciate it (too much cuts IMO) but he has some great moves, he seems to be skilled.
This is my favorite Bond film; and I love Lazenby's quip, "This never happened to the other fella." The ending scene just breaks your heart.
+RobertTC009 its my absolute favorite too.. you got a excellent taste sir :)
With hindsight, OHMSS easily stands up as one of the best in the series. And it certainly had one of the greatest movie scores of all time. John Barry at his very best
OHMSS's experimental editing accentuated the violence. One of the best fight scenes ever.
.On her majesties secret service was massively underrated.
Not anymore
This ranks up there as one of the best opening scenes along with Goldfinger and FRWL. The score is beautiful. Lazenby just needed a good haircut.
Probably the best bond film of all time - George Lazenby managed to pull this one off and should have been given another chance. At the need of the day it is all about good script/casting and direction - Wish I could say the same for skyfall
Skyfall kis still good, I don't know what the fuck are you talking about
'This never happened to the other fella.' Still one of my favourite lines from a James Bond film. Thanks for posting!'
But this also shows the truth, that Connery is still Bond for the viewers.
For an inexperienced actor, Lazenby did a great job. Just like Daniel Craig, he performed most of his own stunts. Roger Moore was good, but toward the end of his tenure you could easily spot the stunt double. George is still a very underrated Bond.
George Lazenby got bad advice from his manager not to do more Bonds. That's what screwed him over.
+albatani27 He would have been so much better than Moore. Not that I don't like Moore, he was good on being charming, but when it was about action...
I don't know. He did well enough at action too, as The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, and Octopussy demonstrated.
Lord Fand Angus The role of Bond is not only fight scenes. Besides having performed good scenes of action, Roger Moore - especially from ''The Spy Who Loved Me''- was the right man at the right time (except ''A View to a Kill'').
@@albatani27 no, dalton was perfect for Licence To Kill. He could do the living daylights, though.
RavingRabbidsball also Lazenby served in the Australian Army as an unarmed combat instructor, while Connnery and Craig both just use brute strength and some form of martial arts similar to judo
Lazenby should have been given at least two more Bond movies, he was the Bruce Lee among the James Bond actors
Im a huge fan of Lazenby's interpretation of Bond in this film. He did a great job for not being an actor and even though some don't care for what he said at the final part of the beach fight I think it's what helped make the scene what it is.
Lazenby beats everybody in the action scenes. Guy didn't know how to pull his punches!
In that line of work, you really can't.
"This never happened to the other fellow."
Connery reference, anyone?
this scene made me buy the dvd. unbelievable hands on action. rare nowadays.
I love how these thugs end up at the wedding at the end.
The music when they beagn to fight, was in my head when i got beaten up a few weeks ago. I tried to defent me, but it where four guys, and one on them had a wooden stick. My wounds where not very bad, but it didn't feel good. When that incident happened, i only could think to this scene.

That scene with telly & bond in the bobsleigh he drops his grenade fk that the music bliss
One of the best fights in the series, topped only by the fight a little later on, the one in the hotel room.
The fighting skills from lazenby are vert good. One of the bests. Top 3 bond
i know so many people will disagree, but he was and remains my favourite Bond !

Lazenby has some mean punch.
He would have been a great Bond but his ego too big and they dumped him unfortunately.
In what way was his ego too big?
@nza8888 I agree completeley. But poor Lazenby was duped out of making more. It was his agent's fault. Although I wonder why he didn't sign a new contract...
Masterpiece
The best fight of ALL Bond movies
The guy fighting bond lived behind me for years such a cool guy
Baby, You Can Drive My Car -
And Baby, I Love You!

SO TRUE I had never notice it!
John Williams
Timothy Dalton also did most of his own stunts, including most of the truck driving in Licence To Kill
If you believe that, you'll believe anything!
Diana Rigg is unconscious for half of the movie and then in the end she dies. Poor girl can't keep her eyes open
Diana Rigg 20 July 1938 - 10 September 2020 Goodbye. We don't have all the time in the world.
The film by which I judge all other Bond movies. And none come close !.
George Lazenby was an idiot for not only driving the car down to the beach, but also leaving the keys in the ignition.
BEST FIGHT SCENE IN BOND HISTORY (n__n)
Brooo this happened to me at Wasaga last summer
This guy gets too much hate. This movie had good action in it and I don’t mind Lazenby!
Merry christmas
I wonder if anybody ever noticed that Lazendy was completely dried up right before the opening credits started even though he had been fighting in the water and soaking wet.
Very good fighting to make a James Bond film that is lost episode
No, that's a very respectable list. Almost similar to mine. Only a true die hard Bond fan like myself would agree with this list.
This never happened to anybody but me, let alone the other fella :p
Just a little stiffness coming on!
Almost gave away the best kept 007 secret which is.............well if you dont know now you never will.

3:51 Lazenby did the F5 before Brock Lesnar was even born.
What kind of fighting training would this Bond train to do?
Mix of judo and boxing 😊
Definitely the 60s version of Craig.
I think Craig at 60s would be perfect as Soviet agent.
@@user-xp2gm8im2c Haha. I don't think he'd defect lol.
They didn't dump him, he quit.
so it was you who beat up those hooligans at the beach? i thought it was some old chap with a thing for yobs
What he doing taking an AM on a beach anyway.
Hell I'd risk my life to save Diana Rigg from anything. English ladies are in a class all their own.
Best bond film why? Because its telly & tarzan & beautiful women
filmed in Portugal, Cascais, guincho beach
3:35 lmao
He’s still wearing The Hat!!
This never happened to the other fella.
Ahh. To own an Aston Martin.
I thought Tracey drove a white Lancia?
thats right :D

Three things stands out,....Lazenby, Lazenby, Lazenby....HE was Bond
🇵🇹
Never happened to the other fella. Referring to Connery I guess
Yes.
Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan were the best James Bonds. George Lazenby was an idiot for leaving the keys in the ignition.
