'He was married once, but that was a long time ago...'
Anya: ...many lady friends, but married only once. Wife kill...
Bond: right, I think you've made your point.
Anya: You're sensitive Mr Bond...
That moment in LTK kills me every time (pun intended)
@@nikolaiquack8548 My favourite one in LTK is the witty remark at Hemingway's house: "I guess it's a... farewell to arms"
@@enry2337 Haha, I have that quote as my flair on the Bond subreddit, actually :D
@@nikolaiquack8548 That's awesome! And they say Dalton couldn't be funny enough... ;)
This scene left me speechless. But the ending was great because it's faithful to the book.

I love how he sarcastically says "She's having a rest". That's an understatement.
@@shayd1984triton Yes the prequel revenge movie would of been a sight to see...
i would say the title would of been,
'''HER MAJESTY's REQUIEM ''''
@William Guzman 😂
I’m still gonna hit Irma Bunt with a chair if I see her in my dream SHE KILLED TRACY
I really love how happy the MI6 regulars (M, Q and Moneypenny) look while they clap for James and Tracy. It really shows that despite the many times Bond irritated them (especially M and Q), they are genuinely happy for 007 on his big day and it just helps to make what happens afterwards so much more tragic.
moneypenny mourning her loss
@@scottknode898 She wasn't crying out of joy, but because she loved him.
@@rosairedubrule60 well she never imagined he would actually embark in matrimony
It's alright really... :'(
I love how this scene will always be linked to the opening of For Your Eyes Only where Sir Roger's Bond meet Tracy's grave.
And also the heartbreaking moment when Felix's wife Della was telling Bond to get married, and Dalton's first said "No" and then when Della insisted, he gave a very reflective and sad look, almost resigned to the fact that he is not meant to have anyone. And then Felix says, "He was married once, but that was a long time ago."
Very emotional scene. On her majesty's secret service is one of my favorite bond movies. Rip Diana Rigg. Thanks for posting this.😭
I love Bond and Q’s dynamic here. Yes, Q might get frustrated at Bond’s antics at times, and yes Bond enjoys needling Q. But at the end of the day, they care about each other and there’s a real friendship there.
Also RIP to Diana Rigg. One of the best Bond Girls.
Yes, this is perfect casting.
I seriously think this scene should have been included on the Desmond Llewelyn tribute. Considering he was the only actor to work alongside all of the five Bond actors it seems like a glaring omission.
At least Bond hands out credits to Q for once in the next film. And although Diana's death scene in this film was particularly sad given her character story at least she lived a full life.
But you can also see that Q loves Bond as an uncle figure. If you take the last movie where he is in The World is not enough where he tells Bond that he tried to teach him two things 1. Never let them see you[Bond] bleed 2. Always have an escape plan.
"We have all the time in the world"
Those words still haunt me every time i watch this scene. In every 007 film, we always see how James Bond saves the day and gets the girl. But in the case of "On her Majesty's secret service", it has the most tragic finale in the spy franchise. Too bad that this was the only film where George Lazenby portrays James Bond.
That is why I got a building feeling of dread when Bond says those words at the beginning of No Time to Die
It was said that Lazenby was so pompous, arrogant, and downright intolerable during the filming that he was never signed on to do another 007 movie.
We never got chance to see George Lazenby get his turn in Bond tuxedo. Just as James Bond character never got chance experience married life. After this you see why never let future women steal his heart.❤😢❤😢
I want to give Moneypenny a hug in this scene
This scene never stops being heartbreaking. If I remember correctly, Ian Fleming killed her off because Bond is not the kind of hero who gets this ending. Just like Tommy in peaky blinders, he was given a look at to what his life could be, but because of his line of work, can never have it.
Tracy was based on Muriel Wright,a woman who Fleming met and fell in love while skiing, and who was suddenly killed in 1944 when her flat in London was bombed in one of the bombing raids of WW2,this deeply hurt Fleming, and his hurt shown in his depiction of Tracy's death and the effects it had on Bond.
@@madhukarjonathanminj2772 If I recall correctly, Ian's last words to her were "We have all the time in the world."
@@captnrobvious47 woah, didn't know that
Such a sweet gesture when Bond throws his hat at Moneypenny.
Many say, "I wish Lazenby had done another Bond!" But I think it's better the way it is. OHMSS is unique in the history of Bond films and a second Lazenby Bond (certainly not DAF) would never have been as good. So we are left with a singular masterpiece!
I remember watching this at the theater and I agree with your assessment.
I'm kinda of mixed myself on a sequel. I personally think Lazenby should have had one sequel to be a revenge film and also be his final battle with Spectre and Blofield. I don't think Lazenby needed 8 films like his original contract said. I think he should have done two, and then they moved onto Roger Moore.
Agreed, totally agreed and I have said the same thing on many occasions.
i have to say: good point - also, Lazenby is my favourite.
I think he would've done good as the 70s Bond.
When I started watching the series as a kid, I was watching them out of order, so I knew that the marriage wasn't going to last, but I was not expecting THAT. My jaw literally dropped open.
" It's all right,' he said in a clear voice as if explaining something to a child. 'It's quite all
right. She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry. You see -' Bond's
head sank down against hers and he whispered into her hair -'you see, we've got all the
time in the world." Ian Fleming, On Her Majesty's Secret Service , 1963
@andree france paquette It's the novel.
007 knew as any Mi6 agent who is on the hit list of Specter would, that the honey moon was never meant to last. There is no going back or chance of seeking mercy or penance in this line of job. 🍷
@@evm6177 what a pity
I'll never forget watching this with my mom and dad. After Tracy dies, my mom said "James Bond is such a womanizer that I can't believe he's in love with one woman"... I didn't realize the importance of this scene until years later.
I love her wedding dress. It represents the 60's so well.
This scene. It's tragic as hell. He lost her after they had just gotten married. George Lazenby was superb as 007. Great film.
The saddest ending I’ve ever seen.💔 It’s a shame George Lazenby didn’t appear in any more 007 films. I would’ve loved Diamonds are forever to be more revenge driven.
He's the only non British Bond in official movies
@@dylanlarge11 no what about Pierce Brosnan.
@@lukedaley17 He's still from the UK. Lazenby is Australian.
@@dylanlarge11 Pierce Brosnan is from the Republic of Ireland not Northern Ireland.
@@lukedaley17 Yes the UK. Northern Ireland is Britain and the UK.
One of the most emotional if not the most emotional scene in a Bond movie. Its absolutely criminal that Lazenby didn't do more films. Absolutely criminal!!!!!
Really wish Lazenby had stayed for one more, done Diamonds Are Forever as a sombre revenge story, with Peter Hunt directing so it would look as beautiful as OHMSS does.
I saw this film as a kid and the only three things I remember were psychedelic colorful lights and someone talking about chickens, dude wore a kilt, and the sad ending. Now that I've had a chance to see it a few more times as an adult, it's really grown on me. It's a shame that Lazenby, George Lazenby didn't quit the role after one outing on the ill advised advice of his manager. Apparently he listened when it was whispered in his ear that Bond was on the way out, and that the hippies were the wave of the future; clearly one of the worst career decisions in showbiz history. But he did get his one shining moment, so there's that.
@Robert Kees.
GL had another sad break. He met Bruce Lee in the final week of his life, and they became friends.
George was down and out and went to Hong Kong. OHMSS happened to be in the cinema. When he went to Bruce's studio someone asked him if he wanted to meet James Bond. I think he didn't
However, later, Bruce was driving by George at a buss stop. He offered him a ride and later gave him $10,000 to buy some clothes. I would guess a little over $1000 USD.
On the day he died George was lunching with Raymond Chow.
Bruce wanted him to be in his movies. Another twist of fate for George.
The most underrated Bond film ever
So true it had comedy action and drama and lazenby could be the best bond given fim 2 more movies to make
The reality is that we never saw the character of Bond here. A mature man with experience, like the actors in the other roles, not relatively young, vulnerable and infinite. Closer to this character is Connery in ''You Only Live Twice''.
The Dalton films seem underrated to me.
I was the best novel of them all.
It's not underrated anymore. It's rightly loved in the Bond fandom.
No one could pull off this end scene like lazenby did.
First and only time i cried to a bond movie lazenby did know how to act better than all the new actors from the 2020s in only 1 scene despite this was his first movie
Beautiful 💕 wedding and the saddest ending 😢 💔
thats why Bond got angry in begginning of Diamond forever he was asking Where is Bloodfield
Even some Sean Connery fans say this is the best Bond movie
Underrated movie
So many people have said that that it's not exactly underrated anymore, if you know what I mean. I think real Bond fans appreciate how good this film is.
Saddest ending to a bond movie ever.
Wait, this was the END of the movie?!?! 😥
I love how this is referenced in no time to die with the dialogue and song coming back
He would have been great in a few more Bond films.
Still the #1 Bond film for me.🍸
I met George walking on the beach years ago He gave me a very charming warm smile and hello A true gentleman indeed
Man, I haven't seen this in forever but I saw in in the early 80s as a kid (and a handful of times since) and it has always haunted me. So sad. He was a hella good Bond too.

Everyone say goodbye to Ilse Steppat (1917-1969), this was her final film before she died from a heart attack on December 21, 1969, just a few days after the film's premiere.
I was watching this movie with my mom and my grandpa last night. We all enjoyed it, but my mom cried when Bond's wife was killed by Bunt.
The best time to watch this movie is winter and Christmas.

Imagine if this was a Dalton film. It would have been perfect.
Imagine this in the early to mid 80’s when Dalton would be in his mid thirties. It would be the best Bond film ever.
It already is perfect with George.
@@Desertduleler_88 True, but we’re just imagining a "What If?" scenario.
I agree! Any of the other Bond's would have made this a better film. I never have cared for George Lazenby. Plus the film seems to drag through out. There are some good points but mostly the film is a bore.

My dad took me to see this years ago, I cried all the way home
Friends, I apologize, I’m from Russia, so I’m writing with errors. Thank God George Lazenby only starred in this film. Everything that was filmed later is such nonsense. It was a breakthrough for 1969 and I still don't understand why this film wasn't popular. I watch it every time and enjoy it every time.
George Lazenby could of been the best bond, but didn't want to play the game. Shame because he was bloody brilliant in this.
His agent did this, he didn't want him to be james bond. He later fired him
@@crowkid5553 And Lazenby has always stated that he regrets listening to his agent. If he had been Bond for seven more movies, the Moore era wouldn’t have existed.
When I heard this piece, one version the last song of Satchmo's career, in the No Time To Die movie it's played twice.hearing it at the end, I couldn't stop crying. John Barry composed it also.😭😥💜❤️💗

Lazenby was good but un fortunately everyone compared him to Connery and he was ditched.
He should have been continued.
Also OHMSS was not on bond...it was on Diana Rigg. pity they did not make a sequel to OHMSS.
Still, the fact everyone is just more on connery than lazenby was the reason he got hate, although I am seeing that now he has been getting more praise than before.
Lazenby had poor management that told him the spy/Bond movies had run there course. Lazenby thought doing the one film would make him a star and get lots of movie offers which never happened.

That's always been one of my very favorite Bond actors, Bond depictions, Bond girls and Bond plots! If only they'd been given at least two more films with this as the finale (if they have to kill a good character in a 007 story, at least end the Bond era with such a huge new plot twist, - *SPOILER* - as they've allowed Daniel Craig to do).
James Bond will return in Diamonds are Forever.
I have no idea how Bond could ever face Draco after this. I wonder if they still stayed in touch offscreen or if Draco blamed Bond for what happened and never spoke to him again. I hope he didn’t blame him, but it is an objective fact that the bullet was meant for Bond.
I think Bond and Draco stayed in touch but very briefly offscreen. However I don’t think Draco blamed Bond for
Tracy’a death
I love the rumours about garlic eating before Kessingland intimate scenes between Diana Rigg and George Lazenby.
Not only is this the best Bond movie, but it says at the end of the film, 'James Bond will return in Diamonds Are Forever'. I have to think that that was in reference to a wedding ring, and Bond was going to go on a revenge mission.
Lazenby's agent convinced him not to do another Bond, because this was the year of Easy Rider and said that films about spies in suits was a career killer and he dropped out. They had already released the title, so the had to bring Connery back and come up with a new film under that title.
''Diamonds Are Forever'' would be a revenge film, if Connery was at O.H.M.S.S. or Lazenby at D.A.F. Producers ignored O.H.M.S.S. and made Diamonds a sequel of ''You Only Live Twice'', as in O.H.M.S.S. ignored Bond and Blofeld meeting in ''You Only Live Twice''.

My very favourite Bind film especially her ring which I have a copy of made at least MY version of it
I love this film 📼 OHHSS,,,,,
Thinking this scene they screwed Bond's revenge royally in tone in For Your Eyes Only when Bond dispatching Blofeld in the chimney is treated as nothing but slapstick comedy.
That scene was so odd because the rest of the film had a pretty serious tone.
The idea there was to piss off this guy Kevin McClory who had somehow effectively stolen the rights to Spectre and Blofeld from under their noses. That scene was basically "screw you McClory, we'll just kill Blofeld then" although they weren't actually even allowed to use the Blofeld name, just show some bald dude in a nehru suit with a cat and a broken neck being thrown down a chimney...
@@PaulGBass in defense of Kevin, he never stole the character when he basically created it.
@@ramonegues5689 No he didn't. Fleming did. He was a thief, a liar, an arrogant nitwit and a hackjob, who tried to pitch his Thunderball remakes again and again after Never Say Never Again was outperformed by Octopussy.
A vast majority our there does not link James Bond to romance or being in love. They will name hundreds of other movies BUT if they´ll ever watch OHMSS, I am 100% convinced that they will have a change "of heart". The scene in the abandoned barn during the blizzard is classic and probably the most romantic scene I have ever seen in a movie and this sequence could break any coldhearted soul...just like it did with me!
My 3rd favorite Bond. Best Bond film.
In the book, Bond turns into a drunk after his wife’s death.
Wasn't he already a drunk?
Not if I remember correctly, after her death he goes off the rails. Leaves London for a bit to hunt those who killed her. Only to be called home to do the same job as before.
Bond could really put away the sauce. OHMSS book has him grand touring in his Bentley in the south of France and stuffing his fat cold mouth with double portions of cuisine and suave drinks, basically DWD...007 here is hilarious with a big sense of humour.
