Try to think of the title "ten minute preview" as more a marketing phrase. Most of the time, you can't find a scene that ends before that ten minute mark so you get as close as you can to ten minutes.

To add to what Hughesy said, when Tony is interviewed by Dr. Shirley he mentions that Tony's name came up multiple times when his managers were looking for someone to drive the Doc. I think that rich guy was probably one of those who suggested Tony and since he's a bigwig around town I think it explains why Dr. Shirley was willing to hire him despite Tony's roughness.
That rich guy was made guy or capo obviously. Tony did that to get in good graces with him. In the movie he is several times asked to come work for mob, he asks "what kinda work?" And they reply "things"= breaking legs etc. Which he says no to right away. They see the potential in him and want to groom him in the mob life so he would be able to get his button someday, Tony sees this and allthough he uses violence, killing for profit aint in him but he hopes that doing "favour" for these guys he could get in good graces with them and maybe they would throw him good paying job that aint illegal or atleast aint THAT illegal. Mob controlled alot of big and small companies from construction to garment and more. He was chasing better paying job.
Thats a story a grandpa will proudly tell to his grandson
