This is a video guide that shows how to use HddSurgery tools (Head Combs) to change damaged heads on new 3.5" Seagate hard drive families Barracuda, Barracuda XT, Barracuda Green, SV35, Constellation ES, ES.2, CS and all other families which have their heads parked on a ramp. During the whole procedure of head replacement, there is no contact between the heads and platters or between the heads themselves. This is only a promotional video. When working with patient drives, clean room standards must be followed.
You can find more information about these tools and many other data recovery tools on our website.

Actually on Seagate 3.5 drives which park their heads on the ramp, PCB must be dismounted before head replacement process. Each of these drives heave their head assembly connected to the drive casing with the screw, which is below PCB.

Hello friend, I have a question, perhaps out of context.
I have a Seagate Barracuda ES HDD, very similar to the one shown in the video (3 platters) but I removed the internal parts, leaving only the Motor and the Logic Board (control) because I would like to use it for a Mini Sander but, after removing just the needle assembly, the Motor does not run (before it was running normally). I've tried several ways, connecting pins 2-6 and 3-5 with a jumper, but there's no way to get it to turn. Could it be that this type of HD only works with the needle assembly in place? Please let me know if you have any tips on this; Thank you.

Connect to terminal (through 1.8V Serial TTL), press ctrl+Z then once in /T mode press ctrl+l
Compare "Pre-Amp" models. They should match, at least first 2 symbols

+CLARE SMYTH, I know you posted this comment 3 years ago, but just in case you never got your hdd sorted out and still happen to have it and still want to recover it, there is an awesome, above all others data recovery service in Sydney Australia that have a world renowned reputation (if you don't live in Australia don't worry it's super easy to get it to them and recovered for a very reasonable price, trust me, I know, I've done it :) they truly are the best and at a fraction of the usual price AND can recover data that the others say sorry no can do, they have helped me out more than once, I have no connection with them but have been so impressed with them I tell everyone I know, if you're still about and still wanting to recover your drive post a new comment and I'll give you their details :)

Never buy a seagate.. Unless you want to lose your data 2 days past the warranty date. I gave seagate a second chance once it broke my heart. Never again!

Wow. That's exactly what happened to me. I got a new 8TB hard drive on x-mas...next boxing day, it failed. So I'd used it for basically 366 days and it was purchased a few days before Christmas so the total time from purchase to death was about 368-369 days...(last minute shopper). Seagate is garbageeeee.
