I do electronic repairs but never did a HDD. I had to swap the platter from a broken drive to a working one. I messed it up. But this weekend I've got a batch of donor drives to practice on. Doing these repairs for customers is gold mine if you master this art.
@@Dtidatarecoveryservice Awesome! I’m interested in this arena as well, having 25 years IT/Microelectronics experience. I’m going to look into the Deepspar and PC3000 tools as well; I have a “non-critical” 1TB WD Passport external 3.0 drive that came up slowly and didn’t read reliably; I only briefly saw the DIR via Windows File Explorer and didn’t think to take a screenshot of the data to see what all was there - so it will be good for me to experiment with as a low-pressure intro to recovery. 👍
@@Dawgator yes- if you’re WD is new you may want to get the USB add on from DeepSpar. You have to get an unlocked board to get to the system area. If it’s not heavily damaged you can use DeepSpar DDI or the PC - 3000 to image via USB.
You can also purchase boards that attach to the PCB to use a SATA connection. Lots of things with new SMR WD drives that are a hassle. To get SA access you use to be able to use a matching SATA board and move ROM and get to the SA. Now part of the SA is on the MCU - too much to explain in a comment. Going through usb on either tools should work.
Sure T8 for external screws to open the hard drive. T6 for PCB and internal screws. More here:dtidatarecovery.com/seagate-platter-swap-spindle-motor-stuck/
The product we sold was called Base Replace. We don’t have any in stock. What model of hard drives do you find have jammed or seized spindle motors. If we had enough pre prefers we could make another hundred or so.
If you have moved the platters individually, you have lost alignment and the data is gone. I am assuming this is not a 2.5 inch laptop size hard drive.
Hello, I would like to analyze the fault on this non-functional Hdd ua-cam.com/video/9gBILnvi8Rk/v-deo.html if it is a malfunction of the read/write heads or some electronic part. The error occurred during Windows installation when it formatted the entire disk instead of the specified partition. The Hdd cannot be initialized or formatted in the computer, nor can Minitool Partition repair it. Thank you in advance for the advice.
hey quick question can i change head between different model have hitachi hts54xxxxx model 60gig hdd with crashed head and cant get exact model here so far i have sourced one hts72xxxxx model hdd only so i wanna know if i can change the mechanical reader head between the drives both are single head and single platter
We evaluate how the heads are stuck. Sometimes the soft course head has bonded and just moving them isn’t a great option. We may use temp variations to have the head expand or contract so moving does not damage the platters. Usually, the magnet does not effect moving the heads.

GREAT video and explanations brother!
Thank you! We’re going to try to do this often.

@@Dtidatarecoveryservice it’s circa 2009-2011, I believe. But yes, with the integrated USB 3.0 interface instead of the case adapter to SATA ☹️
At 9:21 - mention of Deepspar and PC3000 for reads rather than Windows querying the traumatized drive. 👍
Thanks for your reply,i have external/portable 2tb seagate T3,T4,T5 etc cannot find tool size for spindle /platter removal.
So this is a small laptop-size drive? ST2000LM007?
Be very helpful if u would mention what size torx bit to use t3 t4 t5 ect

I have had one WD but right now have 2 seagate? why is it usually Seagate creating terror with baby and wedding photos
Nice video, learned a lot from this.
Did you disassemble and reassemble those drives on the video using a laminar clean table?
It is in a Liberty soft wall clean-room
If i remove platter from hardisk Barracuda, when i replace the platter, how can i recognize the correct verse of platter? Thanks
I am not sure what you mean by verse?
@@Dtidatarecoveryservice the platter have two face up and down, how i do to know the face correct when i must replace the platter?
Can the platters be swaped separately or it must be secured with tapes? If must tell why. Thanks
No - any movement of the platters will defeat the entire purpose.
It has to do with how the platters store the information. If you study drive geometry, you'll understand it better.
We talk about this in the video.
Hi
I moved platters each one separately and the driver clicks and no detection in computer
Please help me
I need my data

Muy buen trabajo...! excelente recuerden el uso de herramientas y la creación de imágenes forenses y sobre la imagen la recuperación de los datos👍
Do you need to remove the earthmagnet to move the heads when theyre stuk on the platters?

This is inside a Unity Steel post and wrap cleanroom. Took out the filter noise.
