I love my 2020. I don’t find its power to be stupendous like the reviewer seems to think but it’s got enough to handle any need I’d even encounter on the street. Online you can find owners having issues with their gearbox but mine has never missed a shift. It’s a pleasure to ride, the weight is fine, power is sufficient. It’s a perfect bike for me, planning to own it for years.
Hey guys, a great review of a great bike. I have the previous 2016 Speed R and love it. It was a close choice between this and the S1000R but the Speed in the UK is a bit cheaper and mine came loaded with heated grips, quick shifter and the US Arrows, which means the baffles were easily removed. It pops and burbles lovely. I'm sure the new RS is even better. I've never heard anyone say they were disappointed in owning this bike. I have got my eye on the Tuono Factory for my next bike however, maybe.
@@Sequential_Shift my Arrows are the double high mounts but the lowboy looks like the same can to me, so I see no reason why not. The US version allows you to remove the baffles but the UK/Euro version don't as they are riveted in. I've heard some people had ground the rivets out and removed them.
Nice review on a fantastic street motorcycle. I have a 2010 675 STR with Arrow 3-1 and Supersprox 520 conversion with 2T larger rear sprocket, KyleUsa linear linkage with Ohlins TR805 shock, and this bike pulls so hard in top gear on the backroads that I rarely need to downshift although I have the Triumph QuickShifter if I feel the need. So I can imagine how the Speed Triple rarely needs downshifting for fast riding in most situations. The biggest problem these motorcycles have is keeping your driver's license!
I've had one for 2.5 years, with the big cans swapped for a little low mount with remap. To 120 it's about as fast as anything. It's good at low speed, at high speed, it's comfortable and very well made. My only complaint is on very tight hairpin turns, in a deep lean, it can feel a little like it wants to slip out a bit. Oh that and it doesn't remember the last mode you were in after switching off.
6:12 Showing my age here, but I can remember back far enough to a road test of a brand new Norton Commando 850 which impressed the tester by doing 4mph or fast walking pace in 1st with the clutch fully engaged on idle.
I have the 2016 speed triple S and it is amazing so I have no doubt the RS would just further add to perfect. I do have a low exit SC Project exhaust that really does the triple sound justice (not like the arrows). It screams and pops and crackles. Any speed triple purchase MUST get the quick shifter. I got the factory one when I bought the bike and it’s amazing. The sound of smashing through gears is intoxicating. Don’t get an after market quick shifter, I have been there previously and they are never as good.
I just came off 13 mos. & 12k miles on an MT09 (a '19 with adjustable suspension) that was quite enjoyable. I walked into my Yam/Kaw/Triumph/Indian dealer last month to see his last '19 Speed Triple S marked too far down to resist. I had almost bought a Speed3 back in '03 but instead bought an Suzi SV1000. Now I was confronting a deal too good to refuse. Though having excellent Showa suspension rather than the Ohlins and no IMU, otherwise this is the same bike as the RS. I love it so far! If my playful MT09 was the 2 month old beagle, this is his bigger, somewhat more muscular late adolescent brother with much more controlled "legs" under him! A more refined and better finished bike than the Yamaha it is also more comfortable while having that "plush controlled" nature of a superior suspension. The broad and flat midrange torque does make shifting optional. You could ride all day with just 1st and 4th gear. I owned an "05 ZX10 for 10 years so I am no novice to high performance. The Kawi was far and away the finest bike I had ever owned until this S3. The new MT09 with the SP suspension will no doubt address the shortcomings of my '19 model but the 150+ cc advantage will still have the Triumph as the better all-rounder for me. Want more insanty? Get the new T 1200 RS!
Great review mate, but a quickshifter is a must! I had a go on a BMW S1000RR track bike at Phillip Island with an up and down quickshifter and they are a must for a sport bike as far as I’m concerned! The Triumph is a lovely looking bike. Sounds great as well. I’d love to try it around Phillip Island without having to worry about the pesky HWP.
Awesome work fellas, really great to see some local boys putting out some high quality reviews. You seem like pretty interesting fellas, why not take it a step further and do some different types of content like the 44 Teeth boys?
Lachlan Crutchfield cheers for your message mate, greatly appreciated. we are currently expanding our ideas on what we will be adding to our content. 44 teeth is a great channel but we don’t want to come across as trying to replicate anything they do or any other channel, our aim is to be different from others 👍 if anything better 😉
I had a 2018 Speed Triple RS and the average consumption was around 4,8 litres per 100 km (even with riding aggressively on the twisties) so theoretically you could do 300 km without refueling. Regarding optional extras, I think it's BS that pretty much all the manufacturers do that. They charge top dollars for their flagship bikes and you still have to put hundreds if not thousand of dollars to get the extras. I understand the lack of heated grips but if these bikes are meant to be beasts and super performers, how can they justify not including a quickshifter...
Nice ... regarding that pulling off without throtle ... well my 2011 shiver on sport mode can do that too (not that smooth though). And I am not sure if it is not some pull assist on ST like Suzuki has.
Had 4 speedies, last one was a 16 R, was disappointed in the power felt not much quicker than my 06, got rid of it and bought an MT10 SP absolutely love the Yammy, in saying that the speed triples build quality was top notch!
the new one is leaps and bounds over the 16. Having owned both, i was shocked that it lived up to the marketing. Go ride one. RS only though, the S leaves a lot on the table.
I would LOVE to own a triumph. To bad that where I live they have royally screwed up the insurance for them. I can get halv coverage on a Ducati Monster 1200 with 160hp for $700/year but the street triple and speed triple can only be insured for $1100/year. The only reason I can think of is it might have something to do with Ducati owners not actually riding their bikes and thus landing in a lower bracket
I've got a Tiger and have long been a Triumph fan... but the gorilla's in the supernaked room need to be answered... Super Duke and Tuono - how does the updated triple compare to the dueling kings?
@@6tdegrees ah fair enough. Though not to nitpick, but my 04 bandit 1200 pulls with just the clutch aswel. As would most big bikes of their Ilk. Not bashing, but felt it was odd saying that when most 1k+ cc bikes would do it..... Anyway, great content, loved the vid. Keep em coming. 👍🏼
Awesome review, stumbled across you guys as I'm currently in the market for a new bike. Subscribed.. Care to review the S1000R as well.. It's a choice between this and the BMW.. They're about teh same price from what I can gather.
Simple question the triple or ktm duke ? I’ve read all the reviews on both and there are a tons of mix ideals so which one !!!? I can’t make up my mind before I buy 🤷🏻♂️
You had me hooked up until you mentioned the Aussie price! God damn they sure know how to rip us off down here! Anyway awesome review guys, you've gained a new sub from me.
Got mine for $24600 ride away including the Quickshifter & heated grips....lots of tech onboard so I can live with the price Pickup next week, eating lots of pies in anticipation !
Hi, about time you guys put out a vid. Great work. I would like to see the old model up against this one in the real world, I bet there's really not much in it. 👍
12000$ for Street Triple in my country, hard to justify lots of good 1000CC. naked at the same cost, and Speed Triple not available in my country either.
The KTM is a beast. This bike is more tame and for that I like it. I narrowed it down to this bike. The contenders were; Monster 1200 S and the KTM. If you want refinement and ease of a nice linear power band, I go with Triumph.
@@6tdegrees sir do you think 2019 Yamaha YZF R3 will make a very good beginning bike. Also what's your height.. I fall in love with the Triple RS after watching your video!! Would like that bike to be one of top of the line bikes lol. :)

Damn, beautiful bike rearward of the forks....Can I "shit can" that ugly headlight pod and get something that doesn't look like a praying mantis head. Was looking a one in the dealer today and love the bike as long as I don't look a the front.
problem is their 2-3 grand overpriced. for what they want for this bike you can a tuono or sdr, and those 2 bikes are on a whole other planet than the speed triple, where they are the only 2 at that level

What is meant by steering head lock? What I'm familiar with is the anti-theft device. You won't be using that during turns.
@6Tdegrees I'm confused. Did you just praise it for going forward after finding the biting point of the clutch ??
