    I love the look and overall package of this baby. It's a definite contender for my next bike (In June). Can't wait to give it a test ride.

    I'm a big fan of the Speed having owned a 2012 model, and this new RS is the logical evolution of the model. I love it, especially with a lowboy on it

    great video for a great bike! I've just got a technical question: is the anti-wheelie still "connected" to traction control or there is the possibility to set them separately (like on Bosch IMU equipped bikes)?

    Hi, thanks for the video. Can you say anything about wind protection? Is it effective or it needs an additional screen? What speed can one reach without problems? What about the grip on the wet? Is it possible to have the abs cornering on the S version? Thank you

    Agreed, nice review. And regardless of lap times versus a tuono or s1000r, this looks and sounds like a bike I'd be happier with - and I've had an s1000r for nearly four years. I rode an Speed in late 2013 - loved it but went for the brand new bmw anyway. Mmmm...

      What made you go for bmw ? I feel the naked gives you more fun the instant wheelies and easy posture but s1kr gives you bragging right of going beyond 300 and track domination. Please do give your views

    Thought Bruce did a great review and as ever the film and production quality from this channel is right up there. Currently owning an MT10 I was really hoping Triumph would have developed a new engine for this bike, a scaled up version of the 765 unit, higher revving. Sadly not to be but I'm sure it's still a great bike (owned a 2012 Speed) Have Triumph done enough to tempt me back? Err it's nice but I would feel I was taking a step back from the amazing CP4 motor of my Yam.

    • @fyorbane
      @fyorbane 6 років тому

      The motor has been thoroughly reworked. It does rev higher and quicker. I would take this over the MT 10 anyday. I also read a test of this bike against the MT10 SP on track. The speedy basically slaughtered the Yam on lap times.

      Banditmanuk I have owned a 2017 KTM 1290 Superduke R for over a year, and I love it for obvious reasons...but...I test ride the new Speed RS a week ago, and I am actually trading in my KTM for one in 2 weeks time. I would never have thought I would ever choose any other bike over my KTM, but you should definitely go test ride one and make up your own mind!
      In response to your “concerns” re the engine...it really does feel totally different to the previous Speed...it does rev much higher, lighter and faster. It is also is the most balanced, stable, and best handling bike I’ve ridden, and this combination of characteristics made me fall in love! I love my SDR and also MT10’s etc, but there’s something more rideable and useable about this bike...in my humble opinion of course! I do think it’s well worth test riding one, cos I never thought I would enjoy anything more than my KTM..cheers!

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk 6 років тому +1

      Davy Crocket I know someone who is trading their MT10 for the new Speed after a test ride so it must be good. Loved my 2012 Speed Triple but the main reason I sold it was the leg position for me, being 6ft 3 it was a little too cramped on longer rides.

    • @davvyross3661
      @davvyross3661 6 років тому

      Banditmanuk Ahh I see, yeah I totally get that, as I did notice the difference in peg height compared to the MT10 etc. I am 5 ft 10, so it must have been pretty cramped for you!

    If you can ride with Gary Johnson you must be good. And if you say that this bike is good, it must be so. I was considering previous model because of premium suspension and excellent fueling, but I gave up due to tank design. I seems to be dangerous on case of frontal collision.

    sure the chassis geometry is very important but the biggest factor is that oh so glorious ohlins front fork...i would trade in my Ducati for one but one small factor...i really dont need to be any faster, in fact ive always enjoyed taking the smallest bike and trying to hang with the bigger bikes is way more fun than having more power...i used to ride a klx300 when everyone else was on a 450 so it was alot of work to pass on a gutless bike but i did it

    Not a big fan of the fact that a lot of street bikes come with Supercorsas these days. These tyres only make sense if you ride on the track and don't want to put your bike on a trailer to get there. On the road I'd prefer the Rosso III anytime.

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk 6 років тому +2

      Lugash Käsekuchen Spot on, Triumph did the same with the Street Triple RS. These tyres are close to being dangerous on cold wet roads

    • @lennardspit
      @lennardspit 6 років тому +3

      There is some logic to it from the manufacturer'ss persoective:
      - journalists test them only with stock tires, so the oem tires are a very simple way to influence the initial reviews of a new bike. It will handle sweet with supercorsas when ridden hard on press launches. This serves Triumphs interest
      - Supercorsas don't last very long so it guarantees a quick tire change for the tire manufacturer. Recurring revenue for Pirelli-Metzeler
      Final comment: Rosso IIIs are indeed great tires.

    Us motorcyclists are so spoiled these days and the naked bikes are so much fun on the street too. My 2010 675 STR has benefited from many mods over the years (Arrow 3-1, KyleUsa linear linkage and Ohlins TR805 shock etc) and is so fast and handles so well that over 50,000 kms later I have no intention of ever selling it. So bored of people making comparisons to the a Tuono or Superduke. It’s not one of them, it’s a different ride. If that’s what you want go buy one of them. Personally I love the planted feel of the Speed, it has enough power for me and it’s a lovely bike on the road. In my opinion it’s still one of the best looking bikes out there.

      Dougie You are right mate. As a Street Triple RS owner, I could be interested in one of these. I am tired to read people comparing it to Superduke and so on. Come on, they should stop the bullshit. This bike has a target of its own! I could not agree more wih you!

    • @fabiena1787
      @fabiena1787 6 років тому +3

      Yeah, maybe. And this is certainly an excellent bike, don't get me wrong... But come on ! Triumph introduces it on a track, calls it RS, claims it's more powerful, and lighter, etc. They have chosen its competitors, they just don't get close in the hardcore department... Triumph initiated the comparison : they are to blame. That won't prevent this bike from being very fun and enjoyable, though.

    • @dougie1325
      @dougie1325 6 років тому +2

      It still is a capable track bike, but if I was in the market for a track bike it wouldn't be a naked. If like me you want a credible all rounder it's a good option. I won't be exchanging my 2016 model for it as it's not different enough to make it worth it. I don't take too much from the marketing hype either, preferring to demo myself and look at real world blogger reviews, of which there will be a lot soon. There is a place for this bike in the market and to me it's closest rival is the Ducati Monster, another very nice machine.

      "I don't take too much from the marketing hype either, preferring to demo myself"
      Exactly, we watch this to find out what's new in terms of electronics and features, we don't expect an in-depth personal review. It's sure beats going to the Triumph website and reading all the specs off a page and comparing it to the old version. They did it for you, and you get to hear the bike as well. :)

  • @valebliz
    @valebliz 6 років тому +8

    To all the guys saying the tuono or the SD are better: i have a 2017 1290 SD. I still liked the handling of the 2012 Speed R i had before way better. Better front end, better suspensions, more precise frame feel. Bikes aren't only made of bhp numbers, if you actually care about riding and not parking in front of the bar.

    • @mrj3795
      @mrj3795 6 років тому

      valebliz if you "care about riding" in the UK, you probably wouldn't buy a naked. Some folks like to do the miles, some like to do the smiles, it's a free country friendo.

    • @davvyross3661
      @davvyross3661 6 років тому

      I agree totally. I also own a 2017 1290 SDR. After test riding the new Speed Triple yesterday, I am now going to swap mine in for the Triumph. I love my 1290 SDR. However, for me, as mental and fun as my KTM is, I found the new Speed much more usable, more fun, more engaging, and quite possibly the best balanced and best handling bike i've ever ridden...it is all down to personal preference, but in my case, the Triumph's engine is more usable for most road riding...

    • @valebliz
      @valebliz 6 років тому

      Davy Crocket did you find the '18 engine any more grunty up top, compared to the old speed? My only complaint with my '12 Speed R was the engine really died in the last 2k revs, now they claim 15hp more compared to the one I had. Did you feel those?

    • @davvyross3661
      @davvyross3661 6 років тому +1

      valebliz That’s slightly tricky to answer...because the engine is soooo different to the 2016 Speed that I test rode? The quick answer is “yes” and it’s a bit longer in all the gears...but....it’s the fast free revving and the constant linear torque that makes it feel so exciting to ride? Almost like they’ve “freed up” the old engine, if that makes sense?? To put it another way, I chose the 1290 over the 2017 Speed cos the engine felt strangulated by comparison...but I would never have chosen the SDR over this new Speed Triple..hence why I’m now trading mine in...and it really is the best balanced and handling bike I’ve ever ridden...without being tiring like it is on a Supersports or even the SDR at times?
      Hope this helps!???

      I did back to back 1 hour long rides on the Speed Triple RS and Tuono Factory and this is my opinion. The bikes are more similar than not. Variances are the engines, throttle response, and slow speed handling.
      Speed is superior handling overall over the Tuono, but especially at slower speeds. That’s important as we ride these machines on the street mostly. Throttle response is more precise and predictable on the Speed. Tuono’s throttle is sometime jerky. The V4 sound is just amazing, much more exciting than the Speed’s three cylinders. Tuono is more raw and the Speed is raw with a touch of refinement.

    The look of this bike is just nuts, always has been always will be. Great review as always, I see the internet police are out in force, armchair experts!!!! No one should be knocking Triumph they have been knocking it out of the part the last three years with a whole new line up. I was shocked when they dropped the Trophy I just bought last year. But North Americans like their cruisers, which makes me wonder if the new bikes this year will sell as well, they pretty much don't have a dedicated touring machine anymore. The Tiger is not a touring machine you could ask the wife to sit on for any long ride. I know my wife would be taking the car on vacation, so for now, i keep my beautiful black trophy...

  • @Joric78
    @Joric78 6 років тому +1

    So... the S model weighs the same as the old model and the RS is about 3KG lighter due to the arrow exhaust. 6hp more puts it in the category of detuned Japanese nakeds like the Z1000, not the other euro nakeds. Needs another 150cc, not just another 1000rpm. The Brembos are also a step back from the M50s on the Tuono and Superduke (although the same as on the S1000R). I'll take the gushing praise for the electronics at face value.
    The Oz pricing is released on Monday, which will be the real factor in whether it's a competitive offering.

      Yeah, I'm sure the M4s are fine. Strange that the Street Triple RS got the M50s though. I just don't think the relatively minor changes are going to elevate this bike to be competitive with the top supernakeds, let alone move things forward. The previous model fell closest to the Yamaha MT-10, and while this RS model might be better equipped with the brembos and ohlins, I'm sure it'll cost more. Honda's new CB1000R might have moved up into this second tier as well.

      This engine tho, torque for days if I must believe the reviewers. And as a striple 675 owner i must say, BHP isnt everything, speed isnt everything. I rather take nice winding roads with nice lines and superb handling than having the wrestle the bike through all of that where you cant even use the peak power imo

    Wow - you’ve convinced me the RS is too much bike for this 66 year old rider. That said, the Thruxton R (which I’ve ridden enough to know) isn’t enough bike for me. Wonder if Triumph will do up a Speed Triple “sport-touring” bike?

      For what? 2016-2017 was quite a big step forward. It was kinda pity it didn't get TFT dash as 765, though. And lack of cruise control was kinda bummer.
      2018 looks even more competitive for like 5 years ahead, unless they'll unveil even more lighter, like 20 kilos lighter,Triple with 160+ hp.

    • @JestersCapxXx

      Ah, the "can you actually ride" triggered response.
      Supermoto is life m8.
      I tell you what I know. In your 9 minute launch "review" Bruce found exactly zero things to criticize. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Whatever buddy. Most biased "reviewers" have enough shame to throw in some token criticisms or simply openly say they are XYZ fanboys. Your "review" is nothing but a 9 minute Ode de Triomphe. Fair enough. You are not the only ones, but don't get all triggered when people point it out.

    • @BikeWorldTVshow
      @BikeWorldTVshow  6 років тому

      Bruce was a guest, maybe the result might have been different if we'd ridden it ourselves. As you said, it was a launch review, there's only so much you can do with the few hours we get on the bike. Feedback taken on-board though.

      Great review. Really helpws me narrow down my list on a new bike. I have had a few bikes and considering an all around bike. This seems to be good fit. I have gone through cruisers...naked bikes...dual sport...and I just sold my Aprilia RSV4 SBK and I am down to a 2018 BMW 1200R which I would not recommend due their gear box issues. Thanks again. Down to the Triump, Ducati Monster 1200, or Kawasaki Z900.

      tell you the truth i dont feel like people need supernaked bikes to improve much in performance sector its already in my opinion fast enough maybe a few more hp and tq i think they wants things like keyless ignition riding modes electronic suspension dual way quickshifter led lights better fuel economy lighter weight i think we all are trending toward bike that easier to go fast more comfortable and more easily accessible look at there superbike counterpart all of them are not actually that much faster than their predecessor if you put a professional rider in there and really measure it but they feel tremendously stable and confident inspiring to normal people

    • @sphinxsway
      @sphinxsway 6 років тому

      My man , keyless ignition and elctronic suspension is for GS twats , not naked bike riders. As for fuel economy you're in the wrong category of bike. If they want to make this bike comfortable , give it a set of mirrors in which you can actually see something .
