Thanks! was looking for this song some time ago and couldn't find it... almost gave up, and then it suddenly came to my mind and i decided to search for it again, and here it is :D It is also the background song of some of the character's endings which Geralt narrates (Sarah and Corinne Tilly for example)
This theme and quest is amazing. Most works of fiction that include ghosts or spirits or that kind of thing tend to mostly focus on the horror aspect of them or center around them being evil. And while yes wraiths in the witcher have evil motives and stick around to haunt and kill people, the game really exposes the fact that they were human once and because of tragic circumstance they've been left behind, unable to move on and be at peace because they died such a horrible or heartbreaking death that their emotions held them back and bound them to the mortal world. And you really do get this empathetic theme when dealing with wraiths, as terrifying as they are (and regular low-level wraiths can be annoying) they're one of my favorite contract creatures to deal with. This music perfectly conveys the mix of both sadness and eeriness to the point that it's more than just some creepy ghost story. And another thing the witcher is great at is, actually having an explanation for magic, monsters, and the supernatural which in most other works of fantasy they don't really explain how all of that can exist within their universe and not in the real world. My belief of the supernatural existing in the real world is similar to that of the witcher, in that "ghosts" that people see are likely emotional energy imprints left behind and playing on repeat in a certain location because at some point in history they might have died a horrible death there. I don't know if I believe that they can actually hurt us, but I don't really have many experiences with them so I can't say. That said I got to give credit to the writers of TW3, and they did the soundtrack perfectly.
In terms of story and atmosphere by far the best game I’ve played so far. I know this is extremely subjective but I like the books as well and I like the whole context of a medieval-like setting with supernatural elements. Combined with the fact that everything about the stories has such a depth and provides insights in the human condition and experience as well as philosophical perspectives - just the perfect combination for my taste. And they did a superb job with the soundtrack. Whoever these guys are, they know what they’re doing.
"Hatred and prejudice will never be eradicated, and witch hunts will never be about witches. To have a scapegoat: that's the key. Humans always fear the alien, the odd. Once the mages had left Novigrad, folk turned their anger against the other races... and, as they have for ages, branded their neighbors their greatest foes."
