Amazing quality footage. Sobering to think that many of the Manchester United players had left than a year to live at this point, with the Munich Air Disaster happening only 9 months later.
I was just six years old and sitting on the mat playing with my matchbox cars At the end of the match my Dad threw his footstool in the air in celebration Just three years later I was a regular at Villa Park and now still follow them from Australia Go Villa
Our seventh time lifting the F.A. Cup. We held the record number of wins for decades, back in the days when everything was equal, and any club could win trophies.
I HAVE THE BIRMINGHAM ARGUS NEWSPAPER, FOR THAT DAY. INSTEAD OF WHITE PAPER, IT WAS ISSUED IN VILLAS COLOURS. CLARET PINK AND BLUE. IT'S OBVIOUSLY FULL OF PHOTOGRAPHS AND INTEVIEWS FROM THE TEAM. THIS PRICELESS ISSUE, IS NOW IN A VERY FRAGILE CONDITION.
THATS ONE OF TEN THOUSAND DIFFERENT OPINIONS. i'VE SEEN A MODERN CLEARD SLO-MOTION SNIP. IT'S ONE OF THOSE CASES, OF TIMING, McPARLAND, AS A ATTACKER , TRIED TO HEAD THE BALL, AS PER NORMAL. BUT WOODS ,AT THE SAME TIME, AS GOAL KEEPER'S DO, CLOSED IN TO REACH THE BALL FIRST. HIS ARM WENT OVER MAC'S SHOULDER , AND BOTH HEADS COLLIDED. TRAGIC, BUT COMMON IN THOSE DAYS. ( I'M 83 ) , UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD TO WORK THAT DAY. BUT FORTUNATELY, I WORKED FOR CURRY'S, AND THEY HAD A LOAD OF TV'S ON. ALL THE ''CUSTOMER'S'', ONLY CAME IN TO WATCH THE GAME WITH US. I WAS 15.
@@MrDaiseymay Thats pretty awesome, appreciate the sharing! Would you say the game was much rougher back then in general compared to today? It seems like an obvious question I suppose haha :)
Listen to the level of common sense the commentators speak about the collision “just a coming together as you expect in sport” Fast forward to today and you hear nonsense like “Jhon Duran knew exactly what he was doing, it was an intentional stamp at his head” !!!
It's funny to hear the different accounts be it the VAR refs telling Taylor to calm down and think or the appeal transcript with some of them saying it's assault or something along those lines lol.
Time to resurrect the song that we sung years ago with a slight alteration. "MY EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE VILLA WIN THE CUP, SEVEN TIMES WE'VE WON IT AND WE NEED TO BACK IT UP !" The Tottenham game will be the best time to start it off again. (Please)
Not sure about sportsmanship. That was not a fair challenge on the goalkeeper. He actually head butted him. He should have been sent off, even in those days. And I have no loyalty to United, I am a Man City fan.
The only plan the Villa had was to deliberately injure Wood how ironic that the cheating Irishman is the only survivor of the twenty two players who played the club have never won the cup again to this day and hopefully never will

YES--8 KILLED, AND 2, TOO INJURED TO PLAY EVER AGAIN.
R.I.P.
Goal keepers didnt wear gloves in them days 😮

The fact we get to watch these highlights 68 years on is absolutely amazing. What a gift to be able to see our history like this.
Mad to think this was the last time we won the FA Cup. UTV.

Peter Mcparland still about..This is my favourite Villa shirt..
Never heard of karma
What a glorious day that was winning the fa cup back in 1957 oh what it would be like doing it again this season UTV 🦁😎👍
It's great to again see the game that made me a Villa supporter,
Parabéns pela conservação desse belo material que nos mostra uma história rica dessa tradicional equipe inglesa!
Abraço de um fã brasileiro
I was a 5 year twinkle in my dads villa eye in 57...but we've justvbeat west ham and its our this year 😁UTV.
Love this feelings❤❤
How ironic that we take a 2-0 lead and then hold on for dear life at the end for a 2-1 win. Some things never change!
So true
Great to hear Mr Cholmondly-Warner on fine form as the commentator! UTV
THE GREAT KENNETH WOLSTENHOLME, A REAL GENT.
Come on Villa. UTV
McParland's charge on the keeper is insane, the way he just yeets into him, love seeing the major differences in rules compared to the game today 💜💙
utv . but i cant like that challenge at all

@@MrDaiseymay McParland went for Wood, who already had the ball. It was a blatant foul. United thrashed Villa 4-0 in the Charity Shield
Absolutely beautiful. Today, we have to listen to the likes of Micah Richards UTV 150
BRILLIANT! thank you! utv
What a goal from duran
Was only 4 then, unsure if I was a fan then, have no child recolection but was great watching this, proper football those days with a casey 😮
Sad that this is still quite a rare result for this fixture. Since this game was played Villa have faced Utd 120 times and only won 22 of those games

Its was a fair challenge, i dont understand why people think it wasn't. Durans was worst than that😂😂😂
gentlemen sportsmanship , at the end of the day

Fair shoulder charge ffs
Put a like on the comment to tell me that you are a Villa fan
My dad was there. UTV

My uncle was at the game, paying 12:5p for the privilege ! No hangers on then. Not like today.
Mc pharland would have been banned for 6 matches
