My Grandad was an Everton fan and I followed him and supported them for 54 years and my Son and his son support Everton as well 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's the first final I can remember. I had a bit of a speech problem thing when I was young and wanted Everton to win because the other team was too difficult to pronounce. I hope the two guys that ran on never got nicked.Sometimes you get carried away. Bevvie etc.
The FA Cup Final at the old Wembley was the highlight of the football year regardless of who was in it. These days it is just another money sucking match for the PL elite.
Argyle supporter here......what most people don't know is the scorer of Everton's first and second goal, Mike Treblecock, was signed from Plymouth Argyle shortly before the final, what a game for him :-)
I went to every cup match that season, including the final. The Everton manager was vilified for not reinserted usual forward Fred Pickering after injury. However he chose to play Mike Trebilcock. What a stroke of genius that turned out to be as Trebilcock ghosted in to score two almost identical goals. I well remember Shirly sorry Derek Temples run away goal, and the supporter running across the field being chased by Policeman, left sprawling on the grass after failing to grab supporter by the jacket. Priceless memories.
My team Pompey signed him from Everton for £40,000 - a lot of money in those days for a 2nd Div club. We loved him, he scored spectacular goals, but he was too inconsistent and often was simply the substitute.
I'm not a football fan but I was born as Everton's bus was driving in to Wembley stadium so be default I'm a life long fan of Everton? If anyone as video or photos of that moment I'd love a copy !!!!
The Image quality is amazing. I know it's film and not video, but all those camera angels and close-ups as well, fantastic production. Images from cup finals here in Norway from the same period are some grainy black and white one-camera clips at best.
This day changed my life. Lonely unhappy child, nothing ever happened near me or where I lived until this. Unfortunately Wednesday lost but not long after, the 1966 World Cup came calling. Hillsborough was one of the venues. Had to wait till 1968 to get to see Sheffield Wednesday play. I was 12 by then. My love for Wednesday has never faded despite numerous setbacks. I am now 67 years old, Wednesday till I die. Supporting them saved my life, luckily now I came to believe in God. Supporting Wednesday kept me going until coming to belief in God. I now think the Almighty uses circumstances in our lives to draw us to Him. I pray every blessing to Sheffield Wednesday before the throne of God because I lived to find faith because of them. Wednesday kept me going through a lot of years when I had nothing else. Anyone out there reading this, please ask God to reveal His truth to you, show you His presence, show you how Jesus paid the price for your sins. Just admit it to Him and ask for forgiveness. God hears and rejoices when a sinner comes to Him. Don't be afraid to ask!!
'I'm not ashamed to own my Lord nor to defend His cause' as the hymn writer put it. Thank you Rosie for sharing your faith in these dark days. 1994 was my year of salvation. I will forever be thankful to JESUS. I became an Everton fan when I was at junior school in the sixties.
Strange to think that just 10 years later-after this great final- Sheffield Wednesday had to win their last game v Southend to avoid relegation to the Fourth Division
I was 10 years old at the time, Not long after with my dad we watched England beat West Germany 4-2. In 1968 a had become an Everton fan and still support them to this day 02/05/2024
Yeah great for you watching a cup final involving a Sheffield team?... Well thanks Everton indeed because the team you support have never been in a cup final in your life time?
I watched the match live on b&w TV. I'm a Blackburn Rovers fan and that was a great game. I could still recall the goals and name players in the dressing rooms too. Mainly good refs then!! No colour TV for us until the 1970 World Cup.
Support neither team but it was one of the best finals for me, who needs the Premiership these guys had just as much talent. Was 17 at the time and playing semi pro and in just a few months time England would win the WC on that pitch, a great time to be alive.
Considering Wednesday had equal number of fans at Wembley I think your memory is blurred ... Wednesday were all the way on the M1 and Everton were M6 most of the way?
Wednesday fans will always respect and honour the kind of effort required to get that far, just look at the reception the Owls fans gave the team when we lost against Hull in the 2016 Championship Play Off Final!
I well remember that day and I can't imagine Everton's present squad coming back into a game like that. They should be made to watch that before every game until the end of the season. They might then learn something about what it means to play for Everton and to show determination and courage in the face of adversity.

Fantastic footage. There is always something slightly innocent about these old newsreels, and even just the culture of the day. You can see it in the way players celebrate jumping on the spot, guys running on the pitch in suits and Bobby´s tripping over themselves to catch them before giving them a firm-but-fair tackle! It is weird when you juxtapose it with all the darker undersides of the day (horrendous racism, rampant sexism, legalised homophobia, imperialism) I was born almost 30 years after this, but everything I see from the 60s in terms of the occasion, the crowds, the competetiveness, the number of title-winners in that decade, Britain´s first European Cups. Sad how the Cups don't mean anything now....devalued, another example of how money has destroyed the game. What a brilliant occasion you can see.
It is devalued by foreigners who now claim they are fans never attended a game in their life.
