My Grandad was an Everton fan and I followed him and supported them for 54 years and my Son and his son support Everton as well 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This day changed my life. Lonely unhappy child, nothing ever happened near me or where I lived until this. Unfortunately Wednesday lost but not long after, the 1966 World Cup came calling. Hillsborough was one of the venues. Had to wait till 1968 to get to see Sheffield Wednesday play. I was 12 by then. My love for Wednesday has never faded despite numerous setbacks. I am now 67 years old, Wednesday till I die. Supporting them saved my life, luckily now I came to believe in God. Supporting Wednesday kept me going until coming to belief in God. I now think the Almighty uses circumstances in our lives to draw us to Him. I pray every blessing to Sheffield Wednesday before the throne of God because I lived to find faith because of them. Wednesday kept me going through a lot of years when I had nothing else. Anyone out there reading this, please ask God to reveal His truth to you, show you His presence, show you how Jesus paid the price for your sins. Just admit it to Him and ask for forgiveness. God hears and rejoices when a sinner comes to Him. Don't be afraid to ask!!
Strange to think that just 10 years later-after this great final- Sheffield Wednesday had to win their last game v Southend to avoid relegation to the Fourth Division
Wednesday fans will always respect and honour the kind of effort required to get that far, just look at the reception the Owls fans gave the team when we lost against Hull in the 2016 Championship Play Off Final!
An opposing player once asked Brian Labone why he didn't have a club badge on their shirts, and he replied,"we're Everton football club, we don't need badges", says it all really.
It's the first final I can remember. I had a bit of a speech problem thing when I was young and wanted Everton to win because the other team was too difficult to pronounce. I hope the two guys that ran on never got nicked.Sometimes you get carried away. Bevvie etc.
I'm not a football fan but I was born as Everton's bus was driving in to Wembley stadium so be default I'm a life long fan of Everton? If anyone as video or photos of that moment I'd love a copy !!!!
I was 10 years old at the time, Not long after with my dad we watched England beat West Germany 4-2. In 1968 a had become an Everton fan and still support them to this day 02/05/2024
I was a 12 year old Everton supporter at the time, crying when we were 2- 0 down then jumping for joy when Derek Temple scored the 3rd. I'm 67 years old now and am totally ashamed of the football my team is producing under Benitez. This man is ruining my club, it is time for him to go.
The Image quality is amazing. I know it's film and not video, but all those camera angels and close-ups as well, fantastic production. Images from cup finals here in Norway from the same period are some grainy black and white one-camera clips at best.
I well remember that day and I can't imagine Everton's present squad coming back into a game like that. They should be made to watch that before every game until the end of the season. They might then learn something about what it means to play for Everton and to show determination and courage in the face of adversity.
The days when football was for the ordinary working class ..Worked all week for Saturday..Hitch hiked to away games..bunked in ~ sometimes dropping into the wrong end and getting booted back out..
Not just the Beatles - but Merseyside! You can hear Jerry and the Pacemakers "You´ll Never Walk Alone" being sang at half-time (something most Evertonian´s wouldn´t be caught dead doing these days!!)
@@frankhornby6873 i heard that and i was thinking it was the Wednesday fans, couldn't find it on Google and couldn't find anything to suggest so, got scared but couldn't find any for us, then i saw your comment and now i feel better 😂
Is it really true that Lennon and Paul were there watching this game at Wembley? I've heard that none of the 4 really liked football, specially Lennon and George. Read somewhere that Ringo kind of likes Arsenal, Paul doesnt support any team in particular
Fantastic footage. There is always something slightly innocent about these old newsreels, and even just the culture of the day. You can see it in the way players celebrate jumping on the spot, guys running on the pitch in suits and Bobby´s tripping over themselves to catch them before giving them a firm-but-fair tackle! It is weird when you juxtapose it with all the darker undersides of the day (horrendous racism, rampant sexism, legalised homophobia, imperialism) I was born almost 30 years after this, but everything I see from the 60s in terms of the occasion, the crowds, the competetiveness, the number of title-winners in that decade, Britain´s first European Cups. And all of this before hooliganism properly set in. This surely has to be the Golden Age of British football? Would love to have seen it in person. It is a massive shame the FA Cup has lost its prestige.
@@respectedgentleman4322 Brtiain still held substantial colonial possessions until the 70s, and was involved in multiple wars of decolonisation in many of its territories. Imperialism didnt just drop off a cliff in 1945.
My grandad said the players would warm up by drinking a bottle of whiskey each and smoke 40 cigs and two cigars. Also he said most were on the amphet sulphate and other various stimulants. Me grandad was known for his factual statements an all.
I wonder how the three Wednesday players banned for life in 1964 felt on this day Tony Kay had signed for Everton of course and would have got a winners medal
The Days when this Cup ment something and teams did not give players a "REST" to the lead up to the final. It was a special day now it is teated just like any other match. Even the semi finals were special. Now! it always chase a European Trophy. I bet if the FA Cup winners had the opportunity to Gain a Position in the Champions League, English Clubs would respect this Trophy more. The European Champions Cup was just an add on now it dominates all competitions. Pity. What should happen is for Cup winners to be places in the Champions League.
John hicton should have played in the final one of Wednesdays great utility player's if he had the defence would have held Everton and Wednesday should have never let him go to Middlesbrough my opinion is the FA cup of 1966 would have come to sheffield
Four years later Brian Labone would know all about how it felt to let a two-goal lead slip into a defeat. Allowed Germany's third goal against England in the World Cup match by ball-watching instead of marking his man (Muller).
How football success has changed when it's considered more successful to finish 4th in the premiership than to win the FA cup . The cup winners cup should never have been discontinued and the European cup should be for premiership winners only.
Because we had a hell of a team back then, and you honour any team that got to a final, regardless of them losing. It's not like it's gone on an honours board, like it would at Bramall Lane!
When the FA Cup Final was a special day. My dad always drew the curtains to watch it on telly. RIP dad.Still miss you.
Brilliant memories 👏 👌 ❤
Why would the TV only work when the curtains were closed.

My cousin Johnny Quinn played for Sheffield Wednesday in this cup final.

God loves all teams but made Everton magic
Great footage. Fantastic comeback by Everton.
Strange to think that just 10 years later-after this great final- Sheffield Wednesday had to win their last game v Southend to avoid relegation to the Fourth Division
Sad how the Cups don't mean anything now....devalued, another example of how money has destroyed the game. What a brilliant occasion you can see.
It is devalued by foreigners who now claim they are fans never attended a game in their life.
Was better at the old Wembley and no FA Cup sponsor.
Totally agree FA cup final no longer the classic match of old
🙈 football is dead. Glad I grow up in 1960 /70
@@capri2673 Was better when it wasn't the same five teams winning all the time.

Coming up to win from 2-0 down, that too in a cup final, that is very unlikely.. Seems like sports was a drama/entertainment back then also..

It's film. They showed Pathe news at the cinema.

That's right. It's a reenactment by the 1969 FA Cup Society.
