Loving mine had it since 2019. Used it for my first gig in Abu Dhabi. Still with me in Vietnam.

Had mine for 2 years now. Great little controller with more than enough features to perform a great mix / set. Some may find it a bit restrictive and yes the software effects don’t sound as good as a higher end nexus2 mixer but (I don’t have 6k to spend on a full separate set up!) for me that’s ok as I don’t really use them too often. Song selection and timing will always trump everything else!

Totally agree! I haven't used a nexus yet, so I don't have that to compare to, but the software FX work ok for me.
And sometimes FX can take your attention away from what really matters, like song selection as you stated, and reading the crowd.

Is it possible to use it as a standalone mixer for vinyl DJs, without the laptop connected?

thanks for the great review, looking to buy a new controller for first time, always used my 1200's, if you had to buy one mid priced controller, what would you pick right now ? and is there any of these controllers, that have a stand alone usb function too ? not keen on having to use a laptop during performances. thanks

Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback! If you like this controller and like the Pioneer eco system you could go for something like the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RR All-in-One DJ System for rekordbox - amzn.to/3b25NQ7 Sells for $1760.00 CA on Amazon.
If you want to spend a little more, you could go with the Pioneer XDJ-RX2 All-in-One DJ System with rekordbox License Key amzn.to/3rQbUxW for $2249.00
If you want 4 Channel you could go with the Pioneer XDJ-XZ 4 Channel All-In-One System for rekordbox & Serato - amzn.to/37cBiG5 for $3177.00
The thing with standalone systems though is that you will pay a bit more for them because without the laptop, the controller itself needs more computing power. So you pay a bit more for that convenience.
Also if you like Denon, you could go with the Denon DJ MCX8000 | Standalone DJ Player and Serato 4-Channel DJ Controller) - amzn.to/3bgLHlx @ $1466.10 which in my opinion is a great price for a stand alone 4 Channel.
Personally, I would go with Pioneer. For you, coming from turntables, I would lean toward the XDJ-RX2 or the XDJ-XZ Because they both have platter indicators to show your platter position. Most DJs that are into scratching want that. They also both have RCA inputs to connect your 1200s.
      Hope that all helps.
Note: The above links are Amazon Associate links. If you use the link, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps support the channel so I can continue to provide great content. Thank you for your support!

Just got this yesterday new from a friend that never used it for $420 very happy with it. I do need a laptop now cheap as possible that can run the software any suggestions. Played with it for a few hours on my friends laptop fell in love with the thing

Nice! That's a pretty good deal! Generally I'd recomend at least an I5 processor with 16 gig of ram. Although from my own personal experience, you can get away with 8 gig ram.
If you can get an internal SSD rather than HDD, that really speeds things up as far as loading tracks, and waveforms.
      Also, I'm on rekordbox 5.8.
Didn't have a great experience with rekordbox 6 when it first came out, so I went back to 5.8 as it ran much faster and smoother.

Got mine Ddj RR last summer. Bought it as a demo ex €450.
Connected to a 2014 I7 laptop with 8Gb ram. Gave up on recordbox and use Virtual Dj 8.5. So friendly to CPU I can run videos and stream them with the inbuilt software. Using two USB cameras. It is rather the graphics card that is my culprit so one camera is disabled when playing musicvideos
