    The new Pioneer DJ DDJ-1000SRT for Serato is a controller many people have been waiting a LONG time for (and many more thought would never happen). It has the pro DJ booth look and feel, including full-sized CDJ-style jogwheels and a DJM-900 style mixer, but under the skin, it's a controller for Serato DJ software.
    But before you say "game, set and match" and get your wallet out, it is worth scratching a bit deeper than the surface. We talk about seven things you need to know before plunking down a wad of cash for this beefy controller.

    Beat jump length can be displayd on laptop screen. Just check the beat jump controll in SERATO setings. Also if you enable hw remaping for 1000 srt in SERATO, you can customize the 2× /2 loop controlls to your prefered style.

    This set up is meant to give an idea of what the workflow is like using Pioneer CDJ2000NXSS and a DJM 900NXS (with HID and Serato DJ Pro). Most use the hardware FX on that set up and guys that require extra controls bring their DDJ-SP1 add on controller.
    It brings a bit more to the table with the performance pads than using standard CDJs with Serato besides the overview waveform. It would have been nice but its not a biggie.

    For me the djm mixer it's missing the fx time parameter control. You have also highlighted some good points. I am swaying between this and the ddjsz2 for the next controller, if it was the djm100 SRT I feel I would need a midi controller for serato fx to make up for missing out on the parameter knob. If this was the case could the midi controller also be used to control the decks of another channel while the control was used for 2 to remove the need for jumping between channels on L and R decks?

It's just that you have to choose which software you want to run with it. The one thing people are forgetting is that the SRT was released simply because there was a demand for a Serato version of the controller. You mentioned how the Beat Jump buttons replace the search button on the DDJ 1000. Is it possible then on the SRT to search quickly through the track without having to use the screen in Serato?

    Hey, Phil. As far as the lack of “loop button/ knob”, how about midi mapping the song select knob on each deck? I personally never use that knob/ button to select songs. I always use my keyboard. I would midi map those to become an auto-loop knob. Just a thought.....

    • @digitaldjtips

      Not tried it - apparently the decks are mirrored in the Midi implementation and you may struggle with the modifier key. It could be a solution though!

    Great review , fantastic Serato DJ product from pioneer , well over due , I think these controllers are pricey in the market today
    Could pioneer start looking at midi seperate units , like a deck , mixer
    Bring the price down and you could have 4 decks n mixer , plus easy setup, transport ? 1 usb c port and DC and connects via chain to power each 1 link , maybe in the future ?

      They could if they chose to change the looping behaviour although I doubt it'd happen - I don't really think these things are necessarily shortcomings, just characteristics.

    Thanks for pointing these things out.
    First of all I love the idea of those jog wheels and on board beat fx, however the distinct lack of serato controls is what I'm weighing up.
    I guess the product is targeted at a sort of hybrid market of non hardcore Serato users / looking for club feel / Rekordbox deniers ?
    The glaringly obvious things missing to me are hardware - Serato FX controls, Flip controls (although I have found they are sort of there), needle search, cross fader curve, cross fader feel adjust, panel view, and the pads don't seem to be velocity (like SZ2).
    I also saw another review and when they brought up the Serato cross fader curve software control - I didn't see the reverse option available? So not sure about that?
    You mentioned Key reset - The SX3 and the SZ2 have it too.
    Oh and regarding the beat jump visibilty - there is a setting in Serato - "Show Beat Jump Controls" which I think should give you visibilty.
    I guess my wishlist would've been an SZ2 with those jogs and beat fx... not asking for much hahaha

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  5 років тому

      "Rekordbox deniers" - that made me smile! Honestly? I think it's targeted at all the DJs who said "make this for Serato" - let's be honest there were lots of them!

    Thanks for this video Phil! Being a Denon DJ fan myself, I was blown away when I saw the announcment of the DDJ-1000SRT on Serato's Instagram page. I thought it would be the perfect controller for DJs like me, using Serato HID mode in clubs. I even thought about trading in my Denon MCX8000 in order to buy this unit instead. But when I saw the price, I actually laughed! 1500€ for a DJ controller? Is this a joke Pioneer? (Especially when the Recoesbox version of the DDJ-1000 is only around 1000€). And in order to use all of Serato's features, you'd still need to add something like a DDJ-SP1 to it which is just weird (I ain't buying a 1500€ controller just to add another controller to it cause it's missing features). Finally, this video convinced me that this controller isn't for me, I'm gonna stick with my MCX8000!
    P.S. I think it would have also been worth mentioning in the video, that the DDJ-1000(SRT) doesn't have Touchstrips/Needle Search. I don't get that cause the CDJ-2000s do have these! The DDJ-SP1 doesn't have those either, so you will have to learn to live without them (Ik there is beatjump but it's different from Needle Search)

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  5 років тому

      True re needle search, but neither does the DDJ-1000 so no surprises there.

    • @DOZEMusic
      @DOZEMusic 5 років тому

      Missing Touchstrip and the fact that this thing is totally overpriced are the main reasons why this ain't for me as well. Btw: I just realised that the DDJ-1000SRT also doesn't have controls for the start and stop time which is annoying. CDJs and most other pro all-in-one controllers do have knobs for the start and stop time so why wouldn't they include these in a 1500€ controller that is meant to mirror their club setup. Thid makes it almost imposible to do slip vinyl break effects (you would need to cahnge the Stop time in the setting of the software which sucks during a set). The SP1 also doesn't have these functions so adding it won't help you there 😕🙁

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  5 років тому

      You can do stop time in the Serato settings.

    I'm probably still gonna go for the SX3, I need a new controller as I'm using an Ergo and the mic line sucks in the ergo.(I think it's because it's only USB powered as to why the mic input sucks. Lots of latency) With the SX3 it has 3 mic inputs and can host 2 laptops which I think is great. I also use VDJ for software.

    Hi I know this is an old review. I am looking into getting into this hobby starting from ground zero. Knowing myself, if I purchase a basic controller without the on board effects and some bells and whistles I will most likely lose interest. I was looking at this system along withe the Rane 4. I remember hearing don't get hung up on controllers but knowing me i have to have the best bang for buck so I can grow into the controller without having to upgrade. What do you think? Thanks and you make great review vids.
