Maybe you’ve already commented on this. But did you ever change the miracle mud in this? Miracle mud was designed to be used at 1 inch depth only. This is for denitrification and to allow macroalgae to possibly root if you have that type of algae
This project just makes me so happy!!! Thank you for sharing. I’ve been wondering on a way to do this on my IM Nuvo 20. It’s in my living room so I would want this a little more tucked. I originally had looked at doing hang on ones but didn’t like that look. You have inspired me to examine other options with an external tank!!
Great looking build. I'm very interested in doing something similar to this with my 20 gallon all in one. Does the refugium need to be raised above the display tank. Any way of doing it with the tanks side by side?
Awesome build and idea... I’m doing the same for my waterbox 20 cube.. quick question... the water that is pumped out of the 10 gallon and into the refugium once it goes through and back into the 10 gallon does it go into the display area or right back into the same area as the return pump that feeds the refugium..?
I'm a fan! Keep making those videos, I like your style. But I wonder if you have included some kind of safety device in order to prevent the disaster when some algea get stuck in the return pipe.
I was thinking of doing this to my nuvo 10 as well but wanted to get the refrugium under my stand, what would you recommend doing so it could go under my stand?
Hi, how many litres per hour is your pump? Looking to build one myself but worried 1000lph in a 2G Fuge will be too strong for it to work? Thanks and love the videos 👍
This is true it will shatter into a million pieces everytime. Most tank manufacturers only temper the bottom glass of their tanks. This was an aqueon tank and I know their side glass is good to go.
Awesome idea, thinking about doing this on my fusion 10. How did the power outage test go? Enough room in the display to catch the small amount of water that would drain back down?
Would it be possible to do this for a 10 gallon freshwater tank to provide a place to breed live food for micropreditors called gulf coast pygmy sunfish and make a self-sustaining system?
@@RealReefingTV would it be big enough? I was told daphnia need at least 5 gallons. How would you keep the entire colony of daphnia from being washed into the main tank and only allow the excess from when they multiply?
Well I found that it didn't work very well for the caulerpa in the 300 gallon's fuge but works really well for the chaeto in this one. It's tripled the chaeto algae (it looks like) in the last week and a half.
I am having the hardest time trying to grow chaeto. I just keep growing hair algae instead. I finally got to a point where the chaeto stopped dying off but then BAM! HAIR ALGAE EVERYWHERE
I have heard that adding a iron supplement like ferrion or chaeto grow will help boost the chaeto growth. It will out compete the hair algae without feeding nuisance algae.
Im considering doing this with my nuvo 10 but with a separate sicce micra in chamber 2 with a ball valve heading to the fuge and the fuge return draining into chamber 3. My concern is if the fuge return clogs, then the micra will pump a lot of water into the fuge until the main return no longer has enough to put back into the display. anyone have thoughts on a safety to prevent this? The only thing I can think of is an Autoaqua Smart level security hooked up to the sicce micra and have it set to shut off if the water level in the fuge gets too high
That's not a bad idea I have something I plan on putting on a little overflow box that will help strain it but you could also just put a strainer in it
Refugium looks awesome. Thinking about something like this for my tank . That be awesome. Also thinking about maybe a HOB chaeto reacror or something. What would U reccomend?
Thanks Joe! If you like to see it and want more space and are ok with some DIY then this is ideal. The HOB is much easier to set up but you won't be able to see the macros as well.
Guys don't forget in order to grow chateo and mangroves your tank needs to have a surplus of unwanted nutrients if you tank is perfect the chateo and mangroves will die , they need to eat like everything else.
Why dont you put the line that goes back in on a 45 and go straight in display not back in the same slot the pods will go in tank were it needed just trying to help😎🤣😂
I didn't think about that🤔 i could but I want to keep the top on the tank to keep my snails and fish in. Also I think that the majority of pods are small enough to go through and survive pumps.
@@RealReefingTV if you put both in the same spot it will just pump the same water as what your putting back that's not right to me in my 17 years reefing its ok I was just trying to help have your slif a wonderful night 😎😋
I'm really not trying to be a dick, but this guy is going ham sandwich over a 20 gallon with 2 fish??? I have a 14 gallon with over loaded with coral and a 2 clowns. With only an aqua clear 30g???? Iv had clear water for 2 years. I'm also lost as to what he's doing with the hide away 10 gallons. Ones an auto top off. What's the other. He must be planning to way over stock this thing. Also $100 refugium and no skimmer? And he goes through all the trouble of setting it up and puts a piece of spray painted pvc pipe in his water. Strange. This is all very strange.
Added benefit, any copepods grown in your refugium would likely survive the travel back to your tank 👍
I think so! I can see them on the glass of the mini fuge already😁
Dude!! This idea is perfect for my new setup I've been struggling with. You just sparked a great idea💡 thank you!!
I would paint the glass on the left side of the refugium black to block spillover light from the AI prime
Awesome video man. I’ve used miracle mud before. Just wait till you see how your Pods go crazy! 😎👍🏾
Thanks CJ! I'm glad to see you're back! And I've always heard great things about it. So far so good.😁
Good overview but no explanation given or shown on how the flow into the refugium is controlled? What pump is used for this?
Which tank brand did you use
How did long term effects do on this
Really interesting stuff you have done here!
Thanks!
Maybe you’ve already commented on this. But did you ever change the miracle mud in this? Miracle mud was designed to be used at 1 inch depth only. This is for denitrification and to allow macroalgae to possibly root if you have that type of algae
Interesting👍
I was wondering why you made the drain and the return bulkheads the same height
Great little project, enjoying the vids, well done!
Thanks and it's been really useful!! The pods are going crazy and the algae has quadrupled in size
This is actually cool! Nice job dad
😂you crack me up... Son.
U can make a decent sump with lees kritter keeper or petcos imagitarium very easy to drill
Great video 👍 thanks for sharing!
You got it😉
Love your videos Man. great video quality and a lot of info as well as a lot of NEW info from you trying new things. planning on getting a 25g lagoon
I love the footprint on those lagoons! And thanks for being a part of the RealReefingFam! Keep your eyes out for a giveaway coming soon!💸
Why do you need a separator? CAn it all go together?
Quick question: can I use mud from an estuaries?

You just got another subscriber great video!
😁 sir William Diggs, welcome! 👋
Love this! Might try it on the new lagoon!
Dooo it! 💪
@@RealReefingTV Does it need to sit above the display for an AIO?
The water line of the fuge needs to be above the water line of the main display

Are you selling any refugium like this
And you also did a water change, keep them vids going!
Will do!

Thanks Johnny, yep same chamber
Do you think you will establish enough pods for a mandarin? With that refugium?
Na probably not.
Any updates thinking about doing the exact same thing on my Nuvo 10 please update

Hmm🤔 maybe I have, maybe I haven't 😉
Great idea , I’m Gonna copy you but change a few things
What would you change? I might copy you🤷♂️
I wonder how this refugium held up. It seems way overkill. But looks cool
How's the noise level from the refugium to the tank?
Dead silent! Mainly cause there's no additional pumps or anything
COOL VIDEO 😎👍
Thanks!👍
I was thinking of doing this to my nuvo 10 as well but wanted to get the refrugium under my stand, what would you recommend doing so it could go under my stand?
You would have to drill your tank in the back
RealReefingTV, thanks for the info 😊

Any notes on the glass that I can use? I’ve heard that you can’t drill a tempered glass? Is that true?

Yep it's good to go. And I even have an automatic water change system installed that runs just fine as well.👍
Nice idea
Thanks!

Turn the volume of the intro music down. wtf

hey bro, is this tank still running? did you give up on reefing? @RealReefingTV
Giving up implies failure, I did leave the hobby and moved on to others. I’m glad I had the channel to share with, help, and inspire others.
