Hey everyone. How are you all doing today? Today we are working on my Saltwater Reef Aquarium. This Fish Tank is so awesome. I am having a lot of fun getting this tank going. We are going to be working in the sump today. The Saltwater Sump that I got from Pro Clear Aquatic Systems has a build in Refugium. Well since I have had the tank running I haven't done anything with the Refugium. Today that changes. Algae Barn was kind enough to sponsor my Saltwater Aquarium Build by sending the Ultimate Refugium Starter Pack for my system.
We are going to be working with some awesome stuff. We are going to be using Chaeto Macroalgae to help with Phosphates and Nitrates. We need to add Marinepure Ceramic Media, live bacteria to start the nitrogen cycle (or boost established bacteria) from Fritz Aquatics (It is there Turbo Start 900), Live Copepods and their OceanMagik Live pyhytoplankton Blend of four strains of live phytoplankton to give the copepods, your corals, and filter feeding inverts a full diet of food. It is important to add this to an established tank or cycle it prior to adding the macroalgae and copepods as they need a cycled aquarium to thrive.
This is such a fun hobby and I can't wait to share this video with you all. Updates will come of course. I hope my chaeto takes off soon and start helping to export nutrients from the aquarium. I hope that you all enjoyed the video. If you did please consider subscribing, hitting the bell, commenting, liking and sharing. Thank you for your support of my channel by watching. Have an amazing day!

My experience with chaeto was, once I upped my lighting on it and increased my bio load by add more fish my chaeto grew like mad. At local reef club meetings I would bring bags of it to give away to people because it kept out growing the refug.

Cheto needs nutrients to grow or it will eventually slowly die off. Once you get more fish it will feed off the waist and nutrients. Regular testing will be the key to a balanced system👍🏾👍🏾

Is this a new tank? the sump is spotless! I dont have separate compartments in my small 10 gallon sump so can I just make a fuge of the whole area with my skimmer in there and filter sock? good vid, hopefully you've learned a lot since uploading this. Waste of a lot of $$setting up that refugium. I just through a couple of pieces of live rock & cheat in mine. Put a pump + lights. Chaeto grows to the point where I constantly trim & dump + have little critters galore. That + a portion skimmer for my 125 keeps corals thriving & fish happy.

Surley I'll be setting up a larger tank once we have more room. I will definitely be adding a sump on a larger aquarium. I've always ran them on my other tanks and I swear by them. Technically have a sump on the 5 but it's a hang on back refugium. I have Brightwell Aquatics Koral Lagoon Substrat and also using the Xport Bio cubes in one of the chambers. Chaeto and I bought some Brightwell Ferrion. Heard it's tits for growing Chaeto. Also using Brightwell's Microbacter Start XLM and the QuikCycl by them as well. No, you're not supposed to acclimate. Turbo Start needs to be refrigerated at all times of storage, otherwise the bacteria dies. Depending on how long you keep the bottle out to "acclimate" it could cost you some of the bacteria you paid for. And I've cycled several tanks without this "acclimation" and achieved the desired results.

OM617YOTA, duuuhhhhhhh, didn’t know there are sometimes multiple meanings out there! Thanks!
That wasn’t the point! The point I’m trying to make is the word “tanked” is used more derogatorily then positively, like “notorious.” Tanked is FAR more often bad than good!

@@brohoop You explained how tanked meant to fail, I explained how it could mean other things, you don't like it but my point stands. I'm done. Stay tanked, bro.

There's no HUGE benefit to having a refugium that size, the amount of chaeto you can fit in there would not make much of a dent in your nitrates or phosphates. It would have to be the size of your whole sump to be worthwhile. I'd just fill the whole of that with those bio blocks.

@@inventoryking yeah I read it back and I didn't mean to sound negative. Hope it's working for you. 👍
