    I love Taras, I myself am also very interested in things like phytoplankton, copepods, macroalgaes, and things of that nature so having someone like Taras who is super knowledgeable on these topics is really cool

      Taras is genuinely so passionate about this industry and it truly shines through his work! I really enjoy getting to work with him closely everyday.

    Good stuff on explaining what happens when the lights go off. No one ever talks about that .

      Important things to recognize to try and get the best possible situation for your reef tank!

    you should've talked about cons of refugiums too

    • @TopShelfAquatics
      @TopShelfAquatics  10 місяців тому +5

      True! We will have to revisit the topic and go over those! One for sure can be if not harvested properly and allow it to grow wild, you could risk the zeroing out of your nutrients!

    Great logical and science based reason to have a refugium for your tank. 👍

      Some times getting down to the science of things can help influence our decisions with how we run our reef tanks!

    It is my favorite form of "filtration" and likely my favorite piece of "equipment".
    Although, I am heavily skewed towards using various algae's in a system. Too many years of studying and working with plants, the similarities make me gravitate towards their use in my reef.
    Inorganic nutrient absorption and pH buffering when counter lit (if you have enough algae) are so helpful.

      Utilizing algae can absolutely be a tool in your tank! I have considered getting one rolling to begin helping with my pH problems at my home reef!

    Any issues with the dragons breath making trace elements go wacky....been wanting to attempt this method...less messy of a refugium

    • @TopShelfAquatics
      @TopShelfAquatics  10 місяців тому +1

      We have not seen any drastic issues with our trace elements when testing the systems tied to our refugiums, appreciate the comment! The Dragon's Breath would be a beauty for a sump space!

    Is ir possible to have a tank with display algae? I'm really wanting to take the same approach with dragon breath and red pom pom, like I'm doing with mangroves

      @TopShelfAquatics  10 місяців тому

      Absolutely! There is many people out there who run Macroalgae systems! Totally a thing, I myself ran several macro tanks with mangroves as well, and it’s a fun natural spin on reef keeping! Thanks for checking out the video!

      We for sure could approach a series where we talk about the various macroalgaes that we carry here at TSA!

    i run my refugium light 24 hours since a 12 hr cycle usually kills them

    • @TopShelfAquatics
      @TopShelfAquatics  10 місяців тому

      You do not need to run them for 24 hours, a lot of the time, and what we like to do here at the farm is do an alternate light schedule than your display lights. Running the Fuge light when the tank is asleep.
