I love how the plume change revolutionized the HS band world.

Can someone explain to me how this plume change worked?

@@t0rPet020 Hi Travis, I was in this show! I played trombone.
The plumes that were in our hats were the orange ones. We then had paper towel rolls covered in black feathers that we slid over the orange plumes.
At 3:28, when we put our foreheads to the ground, we held the black-feathered rolls so when we leaned back, they would stay on the ground in-between our knees (you can't see them because our uniforms were also black), revealing the orange plumes. At 4:07, when we went back down, we'd slide the black-feathered roll back over our orange plume.
I remember people would walk up to us in the stadium hallways at BOA competitions asking us how we did the plume change, but all 300+ of us kept our lips sealed. It was the best kept secret at BOA that year. :)
Chambers, Koehl, Nix, and Guidry were absolute revolutionaries in the HS marching band space. Those were 4 of the best years of my life.

This school is rich BECAUSE they are good. The better reputation you have the more money is donated etc etc. I love them and their shows and I'm here in VA. I respect and idolize this marching band for all of their shows.

I still remember sitting in the stands during semifinals and watching this show and being blown away. I also remember seeing them in 2003 and being even more blown away, still one of my favorite high school marching band shows to this day.

This was the show that started it all for Reagan in 2002 their main focus was to go to Grand Nationals and not win, but to make finals to set up the challenge for the next year and they ended up placing 11th I believe. Texas schools are limited to 8 hours of practice a week so schools from Indiana, Illinois, Flordia, and Georgia have an advantage there, but this was definately one of the most memorable shows from 2002 GN.

Possibly THE most epic melody line I've ever heard in a marching band show. I like how the bells play a cute little scale right before it to make you go like "tee-hee, that was cute" but NO! what's that? ...Snare crack, and a hardcore brass and percussion interlude that tells the story of the sweat and tears that brought them all to that exact moment in its own way.
First time I heard it I went back and listened to it again and again like 20 times, lol :P

This band is amazing. as for size. yeah its fantastic to see a size that large. when i marched in high school, we had 280 and that was a lot for our area. this is just phenomenal!

It's Aaron Guidry who did a lot of the work from that along with Chambers. He now drums for Cirque in LV and arranges many marching shows commercially.

  • @BosPercussion

They have the same arranger for many of their shows, and all arrangers typically have their own style that shows up as they write more and more shows (Aaron Guidry in this case, but similarly for well-known arrangers like Boerma, Higginbotham, and Poulan)

its funny for people to say that these school are all rich, that's why they are good...NO! its the kids work ethics, and im pretty sure that when these kids go home from marching practice, im sure they still practice at home! yes they come from wealthy areas, but these school also fundraise like crazy in order for them to compete at this level...I came from a poor school in SA, and the kids where I went didn't care about band...well most! they just did it to do it..."rich kids" do it to win!

don't be scared. the best thing you could do to iron out your nerves is to show up to the tuesday sectionals. also, it'd be smart to work on your ability to play loud. congrats on 1st band

yeah, i was there in person...i dont mean lack of playing as in they werent loud, i mean they didnt play music most of the show, they were busy karate chopping and doing plume tricks...but it was a very entertaining show.

it's unfortunate that all kids don't get an opportunity to perform at this level. I can tell you it's not that most kids aren't good enough. there's just no money. that's that to say these guys aren't special. but think of all the money invested in every one of them. probably no less than a half million dollars just on marching band.

    Really?????
Calling other people names on youtube???
TessaGrace13 is right, the orange ones were attached to the hat. And though the band members might have told you how they did it in 03', that doesn't mean thats how they did it this year. There are also other ways to lose your plume, like when they were rocking out, it could have fallen off then.

In this show they were always on the hat with a paper towel roll over top that had the black feathers. In 2003, they were in the sleeves. Some carried 1, more carried 2, and I can’t remember of the trumpet at the end carried 2 or 3.
