Avon Drum Major, Robert Walker, conducts the encore performance of their 2009 Grand National winning show, Communiformity. This is the standing version of their regular show.
2 observations: 1. GREATEST musical program EVER for a marching band (high school or college). 2. It's rare to see a high school drum major with such a true connection to the music. That's why there are drum majors, who simply keep a tempo, and conductors who actually help the musicians interpret the score. This kid is going places. He can simply stick to what he's already doing and write his own ticket.
The end made me scream because it was so awesome. He set the bar for me. This is what I've been wanting to do my whole life, I just never knew anyone did it. That was great. There was so much confidence. Very great job.
inspiring to see such energy from a young musician. He led his troops to victory on the national stage not once but twice. Bravo to Avon for raising the bar for the entire activity.
I'm a drum major and I have tried to add as many things as possible to my conducting technique to make it go with the music but not be too flashy, but this guy needs to be giving me lessons. He is the best drum major I've ever seen.
VERY VERY good band. The Drum Major is really confidence. Thats is a good thing. I wish my drum major was like that. From Texas, Arlington Lets GO Robert Walker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow!!!! i can feel the pride the band has!! Music always comes first and they clearly had their music down! Congradulations on your win and keep impressing us! =) and I had the chance to work with Matt Harloff in the 2009 Bands of America Honor Band and he knows what he is doing and it shows!! GO AVON!!!
@bengalvision4591 Our band director showed me this video about a year ago as a "reference video" for drum major candidates at our high school... from the moment I saw the video I knew I wanted to be a drum major, and I'm proud to say I'm going to be conducting my high school's band next year :) So I just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me and great conducting!!!
I watched this live, and if you guys thought the encore was good, the moving show was AMAZING, take the drum majors movements x10 and youll maybe get him during the show, it wwas awesome
@Excapted I'm familiar with the 99 Vanguard show. Loved it just as well as this. I just think it's outstanding that a high school program is tackling some really great music like this. Also, just saw some video from Avon's 2010 program and it looks great, too.
@bengalvision4591 Hey I watched this before I became a drum major and you conducting inspired my conducting!! Im the drum major at Tates Creek High school. Great job!
I was trying to think who you reminded me of - then it hit me. If you don't channel Phantom Regiments Tommy Feagan from 2000 then no one else ever will - Outstanding job.!
@MrMcMusic01 I actually searched for the 2010 Programm here but didnt found it. This is musically very difficult to play. I especially heard some pretty tasty trumpet licks there. If you found the 2010 Show in UA-cam, let me know!
@MrMcMusic01 Check Vanguards 1999 Show. Youll find a couple of the music played there again. Nevertheless i have to say, Avon High did a fabulous job, really well done!
I will probably get a lot of back lash for saying this. But anyone saying that a high school marching band cannot be as good as a drum corps has obviously never seen this band.
Avon is a great band...even if they do beat us year after year after year....hahah. Keep it up and I can't wait to go against you at state finals for the third time in my career (:
@trumpetogal37 Ahhh... I see now. And that right there is PASSION. with capital letters. That right there is why I love Marching Band. And now I can't wait for Band Camp. :O
@PapaDharok and this means they will all have decent sounds if and when they choose to continue in music. Nothing I like to hear more than some student who has been taught to play loudly outdoors. They sound like that's the only place they belong.
So, looking at the Drum Major, I'm very curious to see how well he is Coordinated with the other Side Drum Majors...Because i believe DM's are Judged based on If they look alike..So i'm curious..
Robert Walker. Most amazing drum major I've ever seen.

That stadium is so weird to perform in. And it's not just the acoustics; the general feel of the place is really amazing and different
@bengalvision4591 Hey I watched this before I became a drum major and you conducting inspired my conducting!! Im the drum major at Tates Creek High school. Great job!
goddamn, that baritone line must've been unbelievable that year.
I was trying to think who you reminded me of - then it hit me. If you don't channel Phantom Regiments Tommy Feagan from 2000 then no one else ever will - Outstanding job.!
It took me awhile to figure it out but I totally agree
I see a DCI drum major podium for that kid if he does not already reside on one!
damn theyre good. go rob walker;)
@MrMcMusic01 I actually searched for the 2010 Programm here but didnt found it. This is musically very difficult to play. I especially heard some pretty tasty trumpet licks there. If you found the 2010 Show in UA-cam, let me know!
Best part is 7:30 to the end.
Great Job Robert Walker!!!!!
@MrMcMusic01 Check Vanguards 1999 Show. Youll find a couple of the music played there again. Nevertheless i have to say, Avon High did a fabulous job, really well done!
OMGSH, what trumpet feature...

I will probably get a lot of back lash for saying this. But anyone saying that a high school marching band cannot be as good as a drum corps has obviously never seen this band.

Lanthaniel harloff is one of our assistant directors webb is the head director
Zach Calhoon My bad
Avon is a great band...even if they do beat us year after year after year....hahah. Keep it up and I can't wait to go against you at state finals for the third time in my career (:
cool! Barber's 1st Symphony!! :-)
Wow this is quite amazing. Does anybody know who the music arranger for this group??
@trumpetogal37 Ahhh... I see now. And that right there is PASSION. with capital letters. That right there is why I love Marching Band. And now I can't wait for Band Camp. :O
@Phillup11 He was a lot, I guess calmer, during the adjudicated performance. For the encore he really let it all out.
@PapaDharok and this means they will all have decent sounds if and when they choose to continue in music. Nothing I like to hear more than some student who has been taught to play loudly outdoors. They sound like that's the only place they belong.
yay amazingly overexcited drum major. :D
the best part is the beginning
LOL! DM loses it from 7:28-7:48; How long did he work, dream, or plan those sequence of jitters at home when no1 was watching?
@porscheroolz theyre really cool guys too, my friend is in their tuba line
What instrument does the drum major play?
Holy God! The trumpets from 1:10-1:28
This dude belongs in Phantom Regiment. Reminds me of Tommy Faegin.
@chickensouplover516 i have a friend in their tuba line as well
@maestromarble08 they came in second this year, broken arrow won.
5:32-5:45. Low Brass represent. Made my life.
just a little enthusiastic i think.
So, looking at the Drum Major, I'm very curious to see how well he is Coordinated with the other Side Drum Majors...Because i believe DM's are Judged based on If they look alike..So i'm curious..
He should have just touched the floor at 0:28
@TxPballer28 they are jesus players
