Deanna Crownover yes to GFR & yes I’m old enough to be his grandma too 🤣 From “Grand Funk Railroad” “Foot Stompin’ Music, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Inside Looking Out ( has to be the live version) or I’m You Captain” are good starting points ♥️🔥♥️
@@vickieray I absolutely adore the live version of inside looking out! You know, I'm going to go through my albums and send our little brother here some vinyls from the age of funk. In the late 80's my sister and brother in law went to a Rare Earth concert. The drummer/singer tried to pick up my sister until he realized her husband was with her. Lol
That's one of the great things about this time period! Late 60's/early 70's: there was so much sharing of the groove and the vibe of coming from Motown and R&B that everybody, Black and White, were feeding off it and producing wonderful music! Music really is one of those special platforms of communication where we can all come together to groove, celebrate life, love each other, and experience something of what it means to be our best selves, together!!
Funk and soul comes in all colors. Yes you have been under a rock but its ok. Im 50 and when I grew up the music was as sepersted as it is today. Most music played on the same stations no matter the color of the artist.

You're having a lot of fun ..lol...fired up the good stuff today. You want to see some funk check out "Inside Looking Out" ( live 1969) by Grand Funk Railroad.
Don't think it's racism, Vid. I hate that the word "discriminate" - which only means "tell things apart by their difference" has become a synonym for racism, because it's not. We are all interested in where people come from, their accents, their music, why they sound the way they do. Now, since I was a kid, I've just seen skin color as descriptive, maybe #6 or #7 on a list when describing someone. But to explore ethnicity, where someone grew up, culture, history - all that stuff is fun and positive and very human. We can discriminate - tell on aspect from another - without being racist. Would love to hear other people's opinion on this!
@Laquasha Green I think all of us have some of those racist relatives regardless of ethnicity. But, from the many, multi-generational, multi-national and multi-ethnical, why can't we rise up and say "enough please"? The majority of people that I've encountered, personally and professionally, don't feel so separated by differences and even hatred. When is it going to end? Wrongs have been done on all sides. I know this sounds "Pollyanna'ish" (young folks please look it up), but all of us have to take off our glasses of whatever shade and just do "the right thing." We were all raised with some version of the right thing. Why can't we bring it together?
@Laquasha Green Truly, I understand where you're coming from. I just don't think this is completely political. When you take out the politics, we're all people who should care about one another. It pains my soul that we don't. I don't care if it's left or right. The middle of the political scale is where the majority of us are but we allow these political parties to segregate all of us on one side or the other and so many of all the people have bought into and allowed them to misguide us. It will take a great leader that we do not have now on either side to put all of us back on the right path.

I love watching reactions like yours... not only are they honest, but they break barriers, even if they're just mental. Music is the one thing that can unite people and I've seen and heard all cultures of people sing all types of music. It's tragic that our society has reverted to racist ways, most especially in universities where my daughter is currently forced to pay for a class on why music is racist. I mean, really??? Keep up the good work and thank you for your honest reactions. :)
Rare Earth had a number of Top 40 hits in 1970-71, including remakes of The Temptations' "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and "Get Ready". Each was more successful than The Temptations original, with "Get Ready" being their biggest hit, peaking at #4 on the US Hot 100 chart. This disc sold over one million copies and received a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Rare Earth has some soulful covers that are from the early sixties and late 1950s era influences. And yes, it's a Temptations cover. Grand Funk Railtoad covered The Loco Motion also from that era.
The original deserves it's spot in history. Motown changed the face of music and gave us many treasures. Lots of times a band can do a cover and it's good, but ultimately gets lost or forgotten. Not this time. They slapped on so much funk to this that they made everybody pay attention. This song now oozes funk and you can feel it all the way to the bone. Fantastic jam, never gets old.
So the Temptations wrote the song and released it in 1966. Then Rare Earth remade the song in 1968. Your ears are genuine, that's why I love your channel and reactions!!! I watch you every day 💜💜💜

The studio version is like forever long. Dude, I thought Rare Earth at LEAST had a black singer. But, growing up we had no video help & I thought they were a black group. I love the mix of this song with that snare. It's a sweet song. They got "Celebrate" too that you might know. Thanks. I think the track was a short version of the studio track. Dubbed over live footage. Like Heart.
Rare Earth covered a lot of Motown hits. I got to attend a "personal" concert about 35 years ago in Woodstock, IL. They showed up out of the blue in a bar in town, I believe as a favor to the bar owner. There was such short notice, most people didn't even know they were here. I paid (IIRC) $15 for me and the (future) wife, and got to see these guys from about 8 feet away playing to an audience of around 20 people. It was absolutely amazing.
LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣 YOU'RE KILLIN' ME! GREAT REACTION AS ALWAYS MR. V!! I keep saying it...music has no color my friend! Music is EVERYTHING & can unite us ALL! Til the next 1🤩 Stay safe☮ 💥💯🖤🎶🤘
Based on my currrent UA-cam feeds.... dark and disturbin, to say the least. ... I seek your channel for light and love. I cannot express my appreciation for what you are expressing. Openness and love are beyond needed right now. Thank you! So much!
Honestly, this is why I watch your videos! I started singing the SAME time you did!!! I also thought Rare Earth were a group of brothers! I had no idea. Just goes to show you - you can’t judge a book by its cover or the music by its sound! 😉. Thanks for this jam!
Good morning... You did it to me again! A great reminder of all the music I long gone forgot about. This came out when I was in high school and it played constantly on the radio. There was so much Great music back then and of course there still is. Motown was Hot back then too! Thanks again... :)
OMG Mr Video!! you make my heart happy and spread that smile across my face to watch you react and break out into a dance while listening , shows you truly feel the music!!..much respect to you and thank you for sharing the music of our past, speaking of past , not sure if you have done a reaction video to this song yet , not one, you will dance too unless you're tripping lol give Jefferson Airplane a listen ...White Rabbit to be exact and let your mind wander back to the days when life was much easier and groovier ;-)
Hearing a voice and assuming it is one race or the other can be attributed to cultural influence and exposure. You watching these videos is a perfect example of breaking those influences and expanding your horizons beyond your standard exposure. Exceptionally well done.
Music and musicians have no boundaries. Musicians throughout time have collaborated with others outside their genres. They have produced some of the best music. If the music moves you...the musicians achieved their goal.
Yes, son, Rare Earth had it and then some. Still one of my favorite bands of all time. They make you get up and MOVE!!🎶🕺😋😁❤ And yes, Peter is singing. He's still performing as far as I know.
Lol lol best reaction I've seen to this song...I envy yall on these channels 62 ole school rocker it's fun watching yall hear the music I grew up with,I had 4 older brothers all in bands a new 45 came into the house dam near daily and when a young person is surprised to see or hear a band for first time,it gets me laughing everytime...lol I had fun re listening to this song again..thanks for great reaction, yup even some of us white folk had some funk in us back then keep spreading the music around. God bless
You crack me up! Folks have already mentioned that it was a Motown tune-- but this version smokes too! I used to dance to this music and shock my parents. They never understood where I got my 'soul' from either!
They were signed by Barry Gordy of Motown. I loved this band from the early 70's. Seems like from 1970 to 1975 we got to listen to music that changed everything. Those years I remember the most that's when my love of music grew up! My nickname came from this group they called me Earth for the rest of my life.
Man, you really do make my day better, I love watching you, especially before work, keeps a smile on my face. When concerts are a thing again I'm going to have to get you a ticket to something! Just so you can come home and give us your take on the show.
Thank you ❣️😁 I didn't feel you were being racist at all. 😁😉 Funky old white hippie lady here lovin your reaction ... let's dance!! Great music is great music no matter color or genre.
Rare Earth is a Rock band signed to the Motown label. One of the 1st white bands on Motown. Being they were a Motown label, had access to all the Motown songbook library. This song Get Ready, is a cover of the Temptations song Get Ready. Eddie Kendricks sings lead but in a suprano voice. Here the lead singer sings it in a Regular Rock voice in Rock instrumentals. But same song.
Smokey wrote the ____ out of songs. Some covers just work. Linda Ronstadt's cover of Smokey's "Tears Of A Clown" is an example. How about the Vanilla Fudge doing The Supremes "You Keep Me Hangin' On". Or another Rare Earth Temps cover, "(I know) I'm Losing You". The Rod Stewart version is good too. I was never one for covers, but there are exceptions.
Smokey Robinson and the Temptations sang this song back in 1966. Rare Earth was the first White band to be signed by Motown Records. The Temptations were know in Detroit as The Sunliners before they became the Temptations. If I`m not mistaken.
I’m one of the guy who requested for you to do a reaction on this thanks love your reaction, there are more great songs they made like I just want to celebrate,I know I’m loosing you.
My 4 older sisters would dance to Rare Earth album, as well as Grand Funk Railroad. We would dance while cleaning house. Great memories! They wrote their music. 💞✌
Loving the funk outta da funk!! Unfunkingly Brillant!! You dancing so hardcore as soon as u recognized it I loved it seeing young people enjoy my music!!
How about a “Motown on Monday’s”? The catalog is huge! Sure hope to see ZZ Top: Just Got Back From Baby’s, Tush, Gimme All You’re Lovin’, Jesus Just Left Chicago, La Grange, Legs, Sharp Dressed Man,
"Get Ready" was written by Smokey Robinson. And Rare Earth was the first "white" band signed by Motown.
Not the first white band signed by Motown, just the first one to be successful.
How about that! I did not realize they were signed on with Motown... :)
Smokey Robinson wrote it in 1966 for The Temptations, but Rare Earth added a funky twist to it almost 10 years later. 😍
I didn't know that!!! Thanks!

Welcome to the early 70s
I graduated high school in ‘71 and we had some pretty good music back then.

You are correct....The Temptations released it in 1966
Absolutely love your reactions ❤
One of the few white bands signed to Motown. Originally by the Temptations. I Just Want to Celebrate is their best song.
I love how you truly feel, your get down , how you dig and appreciate it all!
You are so entertaining
Mr Video!
Not to mention is how perfect his voice is delivering despite him drumming away!!
Forgot how great they were
Love Rare Earth 💕🌍
OH YEAH MAN GET ON TOP OF THAT ROCK, U AN'T CRAZY, U GOT A LOT OF SURPRISES TO GET TOO. KEEP IT GOING
🥁 Drummer gave Phil Collins 🎶🎵🎶 competition, singing and keeping with the beat got soul‼️
LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣
YOU'RE KILLIN' ME!
GREAT REACTION AS ALWAYS MR. V!!
I keep saying it...music has no color my friend!
Music is EVERYTHING & can unite us ALL!
Til the next 1🤩
Stay safe☮
💥💯🖤🎶🤘
This song was originally by The Temptations in 1966 but Rare Earth remade it in 1970 and had a huge hit with it 😀
Thanks so much. I have never heard this song or heard of the band, rare earth. As always your positive vibes really help in these Covid times.
I just want to celebrate. Check that one out. The first all white band on Motown. These guys had The funk and jazz.
Okay you must have known this song cuz you knew all the words can't fool me😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
1966 - The Temptations
1970 - Rare Earth
I believe the Temptations were the first to record this song, but Rare Earth's version became more popular.
Smokey Robinson wrote this song. Temptations also did it.
I used to play this 45 on my record player. Damn I'm old 🤣
Lol lol best reaction I've seen to this song...I envy yall on these channels 62 ole school rocker it's fun watching yall hear the music I grew up with,I had 4 older brothers all in bands a new 45 came into the house dam near daily and when a young person is surprised to see or hear a band for first time,it gets me laughing everytime...lol I had fun re listening to this song again..thanks for great reaction, yup even some of us white folk had some funk in us back then keep spreading the music around. God bless
This was a cover of a Temptations song, but Rare Earth was also signed to Motown.
You crack me up! Folks have already mentioned that it was a Motown tune-- but this version smokes too! I used to dance to this music and shock my parents. They never understood where I got my 'soul' from either!
OMG and Rare Earth too! You make me jump on my seat! i just watched your KC And The Sunshine Band reaction :)))
You’re in for a surprise
They were signed by Barry Gordy of Motown. I loved this band from the early 70's. Seems like from 1970 to 1975 we got to listen to music that changed everything. Those years I remember the most that's when my love of music grew up! My nickname came from this group they called me Earth for the rest of my life.
I saw them in the mid 70’s, I was 12 went with my older sisters. It was an amazing show, also Funkadelic played too.
Music has no color, yet.. it has all the colors! Kinda like a blank canvas after I get a hold of it!! Great Reaction!!!
A smile comes on my face when I see you upload..I love it..Go Bucks!!
The trickery!!😂😂
To this day, Rare Earth is the most successful white band under the Motown label. I got to see them in 1974 at California Jam and they rocked.
You are absolutely right! Smokey Robinson of the Temptations wrote Get Ready in1966. Rare Earth performed the song in 1969.
He was emulating the sounds he liked. His inspiration was obvious. At the time, everyone celebrated good music. This is the music that I grow up with.
Sure hope to see ZZ Top: Just Got Back From Baby’s, Tush, Gimme All You’re Lovin’, Jesus Just Left Chicago, La Grange, Legs, Sharp Dressed Man,
That would be AWESOME! Ridiculously so!
