you should listen to them doing this song "GET READY" ( LONG VERSION 21 MIN 33 SEC) . AND ALSO THE LONG VERSION OF " TOBACCO ROAD " saw them in concert back in the 60's . I can still remember watching the drummer PETER RIVERA playing the drums and that big gong he had right behind him . The gong that he used to hit had to be 6 feet in diameter and my ears were ringing for a long time after the tune was over with ~ today in 2020 I am 69 years old and still listening to them. incredible band with a lot of soul . Big John Parrish did a great job on vocals .

The Temptations version was a lot smoother than this on. Rare Earth’s version is much more raw and down to earth.

Motown let them use their own name Rare Earth on their record label! I had the LP and no pics of the band on the album cover, so we didn't know if they were black or white, but didn't care! They rocked! 🎼✌️💙

Not on the album I had! It was just all the psychadelic paintings and RARE EARTH in the puffy smoke letters.. orange background! On the back of the cover, pretty much the same except the list of side one and side two songs.

"Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No. 4 version by Rare Earth in 1970. Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members I saw them live in 1974 at Legion Field , Birmingham Al. The Pointer Sisters opened for them.

The Temptations did a version of this in 1966, this version is from 1970. Both vocalists have a lot soul in their voice.

One of the few times I would ever say this. This cover is superior to The Temptations original. And the full 21 minute version, Is a stone, cold super groove.

In 72 I saw them live along with the Doobie Brothers and Ten Years After ,Rare Earth closed the show with The Doobie Brothers who came back out and jammed with them on their last two songs which one of the songs was I Just Want To Celebrate you just don't see concerts like that anymore but that shows you how big Rare Earth was at the time to have the Doobie Brothers open for them

I still have one of their albums but yeah, another one to discover. Very few bands had drummers as the lead singers in the 70s. We weren't short on music back then for sure!

As a young boy I loved that album and I especially loved the 21 minute version of Get Ready. Many great songs on the album. But I was always disappointed in the very short single version of Get Ready. It's like watching a trailer for a movie. My ring tone on my phone is the opening guitar lick to I Just Want To Celebrate. You can hear it from a different floor of the house!

Georgia Ayres that’s amazing for me. Karen had the voice I would imagine an angel would possess, she was so cute & a drummer. How much talent can a person have. What a sad loss & gone too soon. Also as you mentioned Phil so talented. I didn’t know about the other guy being a drummer. I know Don Henley sang while he played drums. I always thought that was so cool! ✌🏻

My older sisters who graduated in 1971 & 73 loved Rare Earth. I was raised dancing to this while washing dishes after dinner. I knew every song from Rare Earth and Grand Funk Railraod. Great memories! Thank you 💞✌🎸

Get Ready is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson...done by the Temptations.....Believe it or not Motown has white bands that sound like Black soul Bands. Rare Earth has a great following!!! I saw them in concert in 2006.....the old guys still have it!!!
