Sir, i hope you get this message, my name is Karine, i was born and raised in Brazil and i live in USA for the past 7 years. I absolutely always loved bonsai trees and bamboo, i feel like my previous reincarnation i must had been a Japanese. I came across for the first time ever with your channel and id like to pay my respect and gratitude for how well and detailed you talk about trees. One comment you said in other video that is stuck with me is to not be afraid to cut thick branches, i am very conservative and that scares me but ill follow your advice when i attempt to make my very first bonsai and ill carry you and your teachings very dear in my heart.

Stunning flowering bonsai.
I came across this beautiful plant just last year I got 3 half dead plants for 5 bucks not knowing what they were just felt the need to rescue them ,I did some research and I fell in love with them now you have just unleashed a beast I'm about to have so many little forsythia bonsi trees and little mini forest every were i new they were easy to propagate but this is a whole new level for me good sir I bid you many a thanks for my new found addiction

My wife and I were admiring the Forsythia at the nursery earlier. It was good to see you as well Peter, my wife nearly tripped over the buggy when she saw you hacking away at the tree you were working on!
I never thought of creating Forsythia bonsai, but they look really beautiful with the thick trunk and the flowers on top.

The japanese forsythia might have a root fungi that kill off the trunk. It is like the Serissa, I have had quite a few Serissas and they died off, and it was due to a fungi........ and I am going to make an old forsythia into bonsai this spring.

Your timing of this video is fantastic for me. I recently purchased a 100 year home with 7 massive Forsythia that I hard cut in the fall to move. You’ve given me much to think about in this video, it is as always a joy to learn from you.
Hello Peter, you have very nice Forsythia trees. It's a pity that you do not have any kind of virtual exhibition of your bonsai plants. Because, you know, traveling to England and back is quite expensive, so I cannot visit your garden personally. But still you have such impressive pieces I would like to see...

Forsythia is an excellent choice for experimentation; they are in my "indestructible" class!
I can back that claim up. I have a forsythia that came from a rooted cutting, survived dog urine, and survived almost being crushed by a tree limb. One tough plant 💪
My father has white camellia and he used to hate the browning. But its all a matter of perspective, I told him once it reminded me of toasted marshmallows and that was it, now the browning is his favorite aspect of the tree.

Oh thank you so much ! What a lowley garden. I hapen to have small forsythia intermedia plants that made roots when the branches was long and did tuch the soil. I got realy inspred now. Your blooming bonsai are so beautiful and capture the feeling of spring and timeless youthful expression. Your trees always remind me of Chinese and Japanese books of old ink drawings of beautiful plants. The feeling of relevance through the ages always surprises me a little bit! The flowering ones next to that ancient Noble Pine could inspire poetry!
As always, you open so many possibilities.... I love forsythia, but never thought of them as bonsai! Also, want to get magnolia, cherry and perhaps a camilla. Even though they are affected by the frost, it’s so nice knowing that you recommend many of the trees that grow here so well! Your wife’s late friend’s bonsai is such a dear remembrance. So lovely in so many ways to be able to look at something she took care with. It reminds us of the permanent nature of bonsai, even as it grows.

I particularly like this episode. I have a Forsythia bonsai my self. It is going to be an heritage for my daughter, since I initiated (from cutting) this one right when she was born. (20 years ago)
I think its a difficult plant for bonsai. It grows like a hedge hog and you need to really take care of it It has a bit of a temper. One year it grows vigorously and produces massive bush of flowers the other year it looks like a sad collection of sticks.
But still it is always lovely in spring. No matter if has many flowers or just some sprinkles.
I have got forsythia hedges in my old house. I did pull out a baby forsythia from the hedge and it’s doing very well in a pot. I didn’t want to put it in my new garden as I have plenty of mature trees and shrubs but I didn’t want to part away from my forsythia as it reminded of my old house with memories . You have inspired me to try forsythia bonsai. Thank you very much and I love your channel.
Thanks for that video Peter. Your Forsythia's have such beautiful flowers. I only have three juvenile ones myself and I always look forward to seeing them burst into colour every spring. But we are into Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. We still have still reasonable temperatures here in Wellington as I clean up my trees and shift them around in preparation for the heavier winter months of June July and August. Thank you for the extra videos.
Stay safe Master Chan, lets hope the spring and sun will heal us all, beautiful flowers on those Fors, my maples are just sprouting leaves and now I know why you love them so, still love my pines but my maples are going to be amazing. Counted over 100 baby pines, only lost a few this winter, they are all turning a strange red/purple, hoping that is normal before they brown out their trunk. Well it gives me something to do during lock down in Washington.

Hi Peter. Im in the process of growing Bougainvillea trees from trunk cuttings. My main goal is to grow these into full flowering bonsai. The flowers in this video is an inspiration!
I was just looking at mind thinking about doing this so great timing. But mine are yellow - there is a fragrant white one so I will dig up some whips - the bush hasn’t been touched for about 5 years so should be good. Oh wow - haven’t seen that pinkish color! I had a beautiful white but always had tremendous trouble with the late freezes catching the blooms and turning them into mush. Then one year we got super hot 80s in Feb, then cold, then warm , then cold. By the third time and a very dry hot summer, it and my grapes just couldn’t mount a rally. It was beautifully shaped too. My grandmother said it gave up because I always complained about it.
I have been admiring the flowers of these trees whilst driving around my town over the past few weeks. Thank you for putting a name to them. All the best! 👍

Thank you for this video. I found on pur ground when we bought our house ten years ago two massive nearly 30 year old Forsithia and cit them since years back. I had to dug out one and bring it for a interim time to another place in the garden. It grows there again very well and has now a second time to move. Now it lives since a half year in a metall container and is waiting for what I will plan next. A bonsai!!

I love the flowering trees. I have a Forsythia I cut it back last year, now only a few blooms this year. I also like the birds that I hear. Your season is a little earlier than central Ohio, USA.
I recently bought few Magnolia saplings. I hope I can make one of them grow tall n huge like yours! It was majestic! The forsythia was a delight to watch! Love the video as always.

Those cherries looked great, just got myself a koio-no-mai and I'm very happy with it so far, lots of flowers. Hoping the rest of the flower buds on my camellia survive the coming cold snap, it's only put out the one flower soo far, a pale pink with hot pink specks and streaks, would love to see more from it.

As you can see from my picture I to have a favorite. My Forsythia is around 25 years old and I have never wired her. I prefer shaping by trimming.
How I would love to live down south here in the islands of Scotland most of the cherry blossoms haven't even started budding yet even though it has been very mild for the last 3 weeks during the day but many mornings with a hard frost

When I lived in NE Oklahoma, yellow Forsythia grew so well, you couldn't even get rid of it by cutting off at ground level! Here in DFW area, I am having a difficult time getting young plants to grow well. I have a few outside in a container with Butterfly Bush. Will know in a few months if they made it through the winter. Didn't know they could be bonsai too!

Putting broken egg shells on top of the soil, prevent slugs from reaching the plant . Great video again master 😁👍
That never worked in my experiments
Most of these methods don't work - like broken glass, copper wire etc

I have 3 little forsythia bonsai...or try to shape into bonsai. In fact, I have big ones and was ready to cut some dead branches, I will keep them now and follow your advices

Its amazing how they were able to make such nice trunks. At my parents house there are over 50 feet of forsythia hedges, and while they are over 30 years old, there is not a single trunk much thicker than my thumb.

Yes Rose makes good bonsai but use small flower varieties

I made an entire hedge of forsythia just by sticking cuttings in the ground. It works almost too well. The plant is indestructable.

I airlayed a Camilia with lovely pink flowers, I've no idea whether it's any use for bonsai but they're great.
They make good bonsai but difficult

Hello Peter ,awesome as always. But pronunciation of the word forsythia , we here in he states say the short i vowel sound for the Y ,you say it with the long Y vowel sound . Or does it matter.
Forsythia was named for William Forsyth, a Scottish botanist. Think for a moment how you would pronounce that name. Then consider that you might actually be mispronouncing the plant name.

Do the fuji cherry trees look decent throughout the year? I can see that they look stunning in the spring but am wondering about leaf size over the summer.

Forsythia was my first tentative of bonsaï when I was young. I was proud of it (even if it was just 5 years old. To be honest, it was just a seedling comparatively with a true bonsai) but my parents forgot to water it during the only week I was away in the year and it died. It makes me sad to see all of these forsythia bonsaï, I would like to have my old bonsaï back :/
Please plant a new one and enjoy it in memory of your childhood. You will love it.

Forsythia? usually right after blooms. It's an easy plant to propagate with cuttings.
A forsythia reminds me of my dad, who was killed. This video has given me the confidence to make a bonsai out of one. I wonder if anyone knows of what kind of forsythia it was that kept dying, that Peter had trouble with?

Talking about ornamental fruit trees... How about fruiting trees? Do you think that bonsai could be used as fruit trees (as well as beautiful bonsai).
Crab apple, Mulberry, Cherry, Pomegranate and Fig - to name a few. In the Tropics there are more fruiting species which can be used.
What time confused on is forsythia is a shrub. I bought one and have no idea where to begin

I too, always thought forsythias could make great Bonsais. I notice that none of his examples were trained or wired (besides cutting back) Curious to know what affect it would have... i guess teacher knows best..
In NY, i and many others who know, use the transition of the forsythias yellow flowers to the emergence of its green leaves as the window to apply crabgrass preventer onto our lawns to stop the germination of the crabgrass seeds. Works great every spring!!
