I just got a job at a landscaping company and I can get all the throw-away plants/trees that I want from the "dump" pile! Plus I can take any cuttings from pruning everything. Needless to say, I'm bringing home lots of plant possibilities for bonsai projects, and learning about different ones that I didn't even have access to look at before I got my job. In addition to purple wisteria with a fragrance, and Star Jasmine, I get to experiment with Indian Hawthorn, all kinds of yews, Elaeagnus (Silverberry), all kinds of hollies (Needlepoint and Nellie), standard maples, jap maples, crape myrtles, oaks . . . Wish that I had a way to send you all my hundreds of cuttings! :)

I can't help feeling sorry for Mr Chan, I used to have a youtube channel some years back and the obligation to followers can be a little heavy on the shoulders at times. It becomes another job in itself and with everything else he has to do, can just add to the work load, no matter how much the person enjoys it, it can feel a burden at times when we aren't in the mood for it. Having said that, I have just purchased my white wisteria to keep in a pot, I have read that the Japanese wisteria grows clockwise because of how it grew many centuries ago, because Japan used to be in the Southern hemisphere but moved to the Northern, but the wisteria from Japan refused to adapt. Interestingly enough, in Southern hemisphere places, tendrils grew this way whereas in the Northern hemisphere tendrils grew anti-clockwise, as does the water flow in the plug hole of a bath? I am in my 50's and have only just learned this interesting fact about why things grow either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Thank you for this informative video, I look forward to growing my first wisteria bonsai, I am sure one of many to come thanks to your wisdom :)

In the past 6 months it has taken over my fence 😂 Can't wait til spring so I can get it on it's way. Thanks for the info Peter!

My bonsais were safely taken care of at my parent's house.
I brought my Wisteria into the house because it's getting cold in New England. Today I looked at it to see if it needed water and it was covered in spider mites 😭. Luckily I have some spider mite spray, and I'll continue to watch it. When I bought it, it was just a stick, and now it has leaved out pretty nicely, no blooms yet though. I can't wait to see if/when it blooms.

I have been reading that following the very hot, dry period we experienced in the UK caused many trees and shrubs to react as if it were autumn. They simply retracted all the sap from the leaves as a defence and the existing leaves just turned brown. There was no amount watering that could stop this. Strangely, some of my plants did this, and others didn't, even two of the same species reacted differently to each other. They all got watered the same.
It's kinda interesting because a lack of watering can also cause this. Essentially the water fails to reach the apex and the plant just rejects that part and focuses on the parts it can keep alive

Muzete, prosim, ukazat roubovani malych semenacu vistarie? Kdy brat rouby, kdy roubovat, jak mezitim uskladnit rouby. Nemam zadnou zkusenost s roubovanim, ale mam semenace☹️🙂
Uz jsem psala vyse. Na leto bud presadit do misky bez otvoru nebo vlozit cely kvetinac do lavoru s vodou. Podobne jako vrby.
Superb 👌👌👌
I keep wisteria in pod since couple of years. I didn't see even one flower. I don't know why???
Thanks
…and now I’d like to have a wisteria! 😅
Word of warning, they can go mad and be very invasive. I'd say they are fine grown in pots though
We have hundreds of them at Herons. Many are from Japan with rare colours.
How much for one plan
Can you leave Wisteria in water? Or will that cause root rot.
Yes the roots can rot if left too long in water. I keep mine in water trays only at the height of Summer ie about 3 months.
@@peterchan3100 Oh okay, thank you Peter ☺️
Can I chop a Wisteria on the trunk and it grow back as I don't want it so big its still in a pot but about 2ft tall
Yes you can
Cool
I grew a wisteria from seed in 1990... it never bloomed... so I put it in the ground in 2000... still hasn’t bloomed☹️.... Md, USA zone 7
Zkuste naroubovat z jiz kvetouci
😉👍
Do Wisteria stay outside all year long? Are they winter tolerant?
The one he showed by the waterfall was in the ground
Wisteria can handle pretty much anything you can throw at them. Very hardy.
Thanks for the replies. As Bonsai, I wasnt sure if they needed to be sheltered in winter. Thanks again.

Mr Paul Chan, somehow remind me of The Julia Child of Bonsai.
Who is Paul Chan? I am Peter
I'm not pruning mine anymore because I nearly pruned them in to extinction and they are taking tooooo long to recover I'm heavy handed with the pruners....lol......
👍👌🙂
🌿
They grow in a wisterious way ... 😂
Just found springtails on an indoor ficus. Anyone have any tips to get rid of them them? Any insecticide that's safe?
soap or oil.
TBH springtails won't harm the plant anyway, but if you must, soap and water
@@Stettafire thank you to both replies, just worried they'll spread beyond the plant to infest elsewhere....
Oil is presumably neem oil, soap can be plain washing up liquid?
@@luigiluigi2098 Yes washing up liquid used for the dishes is fine. Will not harm your plants at all.
Yes I do believe it is neem oil, but I've never tried neem oil
They're kinda cute! 🤣
