    I think this is the first real lincoln that isn't just a rebadged ford. Lincoln needs to step their game up

      The new Taurus and Continental are based off a newly stretched Fusion platform. Something that Ford should have done earlier. The Ford 500/Taurus have been around for over 10 years.

    • @mattmolloy636
      @mattmolloy636 7 років тому +10

      gbriank1 you're Right, they didn't make a new platform for this car. That's pretty standard throughout the industry though, it isn't like they're sharing engines/ cabin materials/ suspension/ etc. Have you been in one of these yet? It feels more comfortable than my Lexus, tbh 😳

    • @gbriank1

      I will be shortly. Local dealer has one in the showroom...one. I had a 2013 SHO, so I'm confident the new Ecoboost V6's will be reliable.

      I would argue this car would ride better than the Town Car. I drove one and did not like how it handled at all. It was smooth until you went over bumps then it liked to roll and bounce. Maybe thats just the nature of solid rear axle body-on-frame cars but I'm not a fan. Plus I'd rather have AWD anyway.

    • @DRII-yv1yt
      @DRII-yv1yt 7 років тому +1

      Nope, sorry you are incorrect.
      nearly all the new designs from Jag were in development before Tata brought them off of Ford. Ford had to sell everything due to the financial crisis of 2008.
      Like i said, Jag still uses some Ford technology. engines, and platforms till this day.

I'd take it over a Lexus ES/ Audi A6/ Cadillac CTS easily based on visual design along! and I bet the ride and handling should be decent too. I’ve owned my 2017 continental for the last year and it is the best car I’ve ever owned
    mainly because I knew what I wanted when I bought it. She’s Pure luxury. It can’t be compared to the Europeans so if you’re looking to pretend I93 is the Autobahn and pay a subscription for your car features don’t buy it. It is a uniquely and unapologetically American executive full sized sedan. Huge seats, 400hp and gorgeous. And she’ll do 25-26 mpg highway easy (between you and me).
    So again, if you want a BMW, Audi or Mercedes’ do NOT buy this car. It’s not for you. But if you want a Lincoln. A REAL Lincoln, with all the accoutrements of modern luxury there’s NOTHING else.

      I agree with the RWD comment. I'm sure it's a money issue but these sized sedans should be RWD w/AWD optional. Plus, I really, really don't like the push button transmission (or the stalk transmission of the Mercedes). Radio buttons belong in the middle of the console and turn signals and windshield wiper controls belong on the steering wheel stalks. But, as Emeka mentioned, better to wait a year or two and get your preferred choice as a CPO at a much lower price.

This car doesnt even have none of the upper tier stuff that 80k cars have standard, like automatic window shades...rear monitors...V8 engines...a knob/trackpad controller...blind spot detection, etc...all the stuff even a Hyundai Genesis gets right the first time...

      Francis Herrera hey, I just figured I would comment on this video because I have actually driven one. it wasn't the black label but it was truly nice to drive. Even dives as smooth as a 528i. I had a hard time finding the button shifters when I first set inside. And I didn't like the HP of the model I was driving. but this car definitely a car to have. They have put a true work of art into it and it shows inside and out. If you ever get bored and want to try it out, go rent or test drive one. This car is NICE! The price for the Black Label may be high but try buying a AMG, M, or S series and see what you end up paying. I'm a BMW fan and I know that a M5 is going to take you well over that $80,000 range. And the people on here doing the videos of this car aren't saying it, but it does have features such as driver assist , blind spot and other lighting that is similar to the others.

    A more succinct review: The rear armrest is so sophisticated that you can't rest your arm on it. The front seats have so many comfort adjustments that they are impossible to get comfortable in. The door handles are so elegantly simple that you need supercapicitors, 1 electrical and 2 manual overrides to assure they function. The refined interior includes a driver-considering knee pad that is so well-integrated that it will never actually touch your knee. The drivetrain is so cutting-edge that it eschews the V-8s of its Japanese, German and even Korean competition in favor of a groovy 6. Further, it leap-frogs the competitors' rear-drive layout for a bitchen, modern front-drive, just like in the legendary 1988 (Taurus)Continental.
    The car is at the forefront of driver safety, exemplified by the dash-center monitor that coaxes the driver to constantly take his eyes off the road and stare down at it for driver-safety tips.
    Lincoln stylists, who pride themselves on their cutting-edge rolling sculpture, have cleverly ditched the grille that - boringly - described the luxury car's instantly-recognizable nose for decades in favor of a new plastic one borrowed from rival Kia. And the hump-backed tail, which blared "CONTINENTAL" and first indelibly identified world-class luxury in 1940 will no longer burden the new car with 100-yard instant recognition. It's been scrapped in a subtle move to discreetly cloak the Connie's rose within a thicket of Dodge Durango thorns.

    The Revel audio system was my only major complaint when I test drove a Continental Premier last month. The preset frequency range is so loaded with base that the fader does little to cut its energy range. This has been a major problem with many factory audio systems. Auto factories need to install a graphic equalizer so the owner can choose to boost or cut the energy of specific frequency ranges. That way, everyone is happy.

      ohger1 It's not a FORD yet it's using a last gen transmission from a taurus, and a FORD Fusion FWD chassis. At $80k all luxury cars use RWD. This is a FORD my friend. An 80K LEXUS LS does not use Camry parts. You're UBER is waiting...

      Chad, I can *promise* you that there is not one single stamping in that Lincoln unibody that will be shared with the Taurus. Not one. Try learning a bit about platform engineering instead of practicing cheap insults. I'm sure you also call the 911 series a VW.
      And I wouldn't pay 80K for any everyday car that uses RWD where I live. My C5 is in storage right now until the end of March because it's useless through the winter. Any car I buy would need to be AWD first or FWD second. No chance for a RWD for any sedan. The sight of Mercedes and BMWs grinding away in the gutters or blocking traffic after getting caught in an unexpected snow storm is quite a sight.
      Incidentally, there are some crossover parts between the Lexus and Camry, mostly actuators, sensors and some other parts which would be a waste of money to re-engineer for the sake of uniqueness. Unibody stampings, no. Bean counters do indeed have a say, particularly if the car company in question intends to stay in business.

    • @chadsingleton7632
      @chadsingleton7632 7 років тому

      ohger1 Same platform as a $25k ford fusion. The MKZ black label is $47k with the same fusion platform. 911s don't use any platforms FROM VW...I know enough about platforms to know most high end luxury cars don't share them with economy cars and they dam sure aren't FWD PLATFORMS....

    Styling is not inspiring. Interior: Seats remind me of a late 1970s Buick Electra (fluffy, layered design). Exterior: Car looks like a re-designed Chrysler 300. C pillar should have more slope. And a 6 spd tranny for a new model? Should be an 8 spd and if the car is going after 5 series BMW, Lexus GS and MB 300 series, it shouldn't be FWD. My guess is the car will attract those over 60 - not the market the brand should be chasing.

    • @atlguy00

      Just saw one this morning (a dealer's car). I admit it looks better in person but my previous comments remain. Lincoln is trying to make a statement with the grill (nearly the same grill as the new MKZ). Still, all I could think about seeing the car is it should "look" more streamline...aerodynamic. I don't see the car attracting the BMW, Lexus or Caddy demographic. In fact, I see the new Infiniti Q line being more inspiring. Lincoln stayed too conservative with styling.

    This is not a true Lincoln Continental at all. Very disappointed as this looks very much like every other car out there. All the past Continental's always had their own distinction and style that set them apart from even other model Lincoln's. And the last time a Continental had a V6 engine, they did not fare well. Sure technology might have changed and somewhat improved, but a true Lincoln Continental should always remain to have a high performance V8 engine at a minimum and also look like a real Lincoln Continental. Ford brought back both the 60's Ford Mustang and 50's Thunderbird to match the original. Why they could not carry out the same for such an iconic nameplate is very disappointing!
