HOW TO MAKE PEA AND HAM SOUP SLOW COOKER RECIPE - Greg's Kitchen

- One of my absolute favourite soups, pea and ham is so easy to make!
It's so easy to make and is a meal in a bowl that is great for you too!
This soup is suitable for freezing too.
Ingredients:
1 ham / bacon hock between 700g to 1kg / 1.5 to 2lb
1 packet of split peas (approx 500 grams worth / 1 pound)
1 onion
2 celery
2 carrots
2 cloves garlic
1 bay leaf
2 litres / 8 cups of water, I used half chicken stock half water
*Don't add any salt as the ham will make it salty enough - Навчання та стиль
I made one after christmas using the leftover ham bone. Shocked how good it was.
Pea And Ham Soup deliciousness Yummo Grego😋!!!
Thanks for the tips! I've just bought a slow cooker so I'm experimenting with it at the moment. Leftover gammon is gonna be the star of the show today.
I think I might add less split peas and maybe add some frozen fresh peas right at the end...not sure if it'll work but I thought it might make it look a brighter green? I find that bright colours make me want to eat a bit more (still no sense of smell after Covid - I can taste salt at least, partly why I like ham and pea soup).
Frozen fresh peas at the end, genius, but don't skimp on the split peas.
Fresh color, maybe add some thyme and rosemary, leave the carrots sort of chunky for that bright pop pf color, as well.
Another good addition might be some fresh-ground black and white pepper, maybe some red pepper flakes.
This is a treat for yourself and your family, make it great!
Aussie or otherwise, a good split pea with ham is absolute heaven. Thanks for the easy peasy recipe. Yum.
Hello, your soup looks so good 👍😊 thank you for sharing your recipe 😋👍👍
Looks fantastic and tasty
Greggo, there is no telling how many 10s of gallons I've made of this pea and ham soup over the last 40 some odd years, it's the best. My vegetarian daughter still wants me to make it for her. I use water leave out the ham, then add a little liquid smoke and a pinch of thyme. Fairly close and vegan too. Love the videos, keep up the good work!
thanks Jim :)
I also love pea soup. If you're waiting for a joke, there is none. I really do love it!

You deserved 300 comments Gregorious.
I always add shredded cheese with it when serving, and it is delish! :9
Great video. That's basically what I do but I add salt, pepper & thyme.
Thanks so much not only for your video on how to make pea and ham soup but also for your funny sense of humour :-) It has really helped during these cold, dark, gloomy winter months in the north-east of Scotland - notwithstanding all the "Covid crap" to boot! Many thanks ;-)
Great video.
This is why we make it in Scotland but we don't blend it we leave it rustic but you can blend yum
Love that dish.In Denmark its called "Gule Ærter".We usually also get smoked sausages too. Some cold beer and a schnaps (Aquavavit)
yyummmm
Cheers Greggo. Gonna need this for 2021 winter.❄️🌧️👍🍜
Dude, who ran over your spoon? :) Split Pea soup is my second favorite soup after chicken soup. In fact I'm going to cook up a pot tonight.
awesome big man. also great with a big knob of melted butter and salt n pepper
grego..................man thats good........................
woooooooood
This is very similar to the classic swedish peasoup (Which have been a culinary thursday tradition since the end of the viking age). The swedes (And finns) use yellow peas though, and they also add majoram. Yours looks great too, and I´d happily slurp down a few liters of your concoction!
Every thursday you will find this on the lunch menu on most restaurants, hospitals and institutions. The swedish military would probably mutiny if they didn´t get this every Thursday, followed by the obligatory swedish pancakes with jam. The only downside to this dish is that it makes me fart like an elephant. :)
thanks greg! we are big fans for your channel ! hello from Florida 🌴🌴
Great recipe Greg. Hubby has been craving this soup. Making it on the weekend served with some mozzarella bread sticks. Thank you :)
omg yummmmmmmmmmmm

:P
O yumo Grego!!! Looks incredible..tyfs
thanks D
+Greg's Kitchen Yw
Ham hocks/pork knuckle are definitely an underutilized cut of meat. Try making yourself some Schweinshaxe/Eisbein with a good raw pork hock; dead easy to make and tastes lovely.
:D
What has happened to your spoon 🤣😂🤣😂
Looks amazing I definitely wanna try this 😍😍😊😊😊
Found it!
Cheers GregO!
Pea & Ham soup mm mm 😋
Greggo! How'd you get my slow cooker? I'm in the middle of a hearty beef stew thank you very kindly :P
You're so fun to watch 🥰 I'm definitely making this today!!! Perfect COVID-19 lockdown meal that would last dayyyys!!!
love it
:D
Do I add a meat pie, up side down to make it a pie floater?
I make a very similar soup but with lentils instead of peas. Going to try it with the peas though as I need to shift a stone in weight for my holiday in 4 weeks and peas will be less fattening than lentils. Nice recipe.
a stone!!!!! start doing long walks man, long walks
ha ha. Yeah. Im planning on running with the dog on the beach every night and having this soup.
my favorite soup
yyuuummmm
My next soup I make is this one.
as a kid I thought pea and ham soup was gross, but as an adult human I love it!
its yummm-ooooo
Greg you have a cooking channel?!?!! Amazing!
I’m making this now 😋😋
hey greg you are the coolest aussie cook! just found you. man, when you blended up the whole soup...the carrots disappeared, the celery disappeared..i like to bite into the carrot and i do like me some potato chunks in my old pea soup. but man, you got some cooking style! can't wait to look at your videos. I am in Cali.
I subscribed! I love your channel, keep up the good work mate!
thanks Ryan :)
I noticed during your magic trick that the grapes doubled, great recipe, I will make it when it gets cold, we are under a heat wave here in southern Mississippi :)
you can freeze it :P
Out here we this is considered a winterfood, middel of summer now, so I'll wait a bit
its winter in australia
Great recipe Greg and I would just follow that up with some floury buttered rolls for dunks..........Food of the Gods. I just bought in a bag of Split Green peas but I bought a packet of sliced ham and quickly realise that wont cut it after watch your upload................You reckon chicken stock is ok as a substitute for straight water?. Thanks again.
Full marks Greggo yeeeeeooooow!
yyuuummmmm
good Mr.G
Yellow split peas are much milder for those who don't like the strong 'chlorophyll' taste associated with green peas.
Could you show us how to make perfect fried rice
Great video Gregg, soup looks good. Don’t you have to soak the peas overnight? Every time I make soup with split peas I soak them overnight cook for hours and hey presto still hard peas. Btw great sense of humour, cold winter -Ha ha
I wanna make this.. Thank you
make it for meeeeee
+Greg's Kitchen I will :)
I've never had Pea Soup before, but it looks good! TFS Greg :)
its yummy!
Greg's Kitchen I always think of The Exorcist when I hear Pea Soup. LOL
Its 25'C here in Tokyo!!! Yay!
same here too!
Love the shoes Greggo👟😆
i had just been for a walk :)
Greg!! Please please PLEASE!!! Make Lentil and portobello soup!!
maybe
come on Greg where did u go bro
And don't forget some toasted rustic bread or savory corn bread.
Gotta have bread alongside a hearty soup.
A dollop of sour cream and some chives on top is the crowning garnish to pea and ham soup.
Dude what have you done to that spoon?
Looks super tasty as is, but would swirl some cream through that in bowl Greggo!!!
no cream!
Hi Greg Got a recipe for you.
INGREDIENTS: 300 grams Penne pasta
4 Slices of bacon
A whole onion
500 grams mince meat
Salt, pepper and onion powder to taste
200-300 grams Tomato sauce/soup
300-400 grams Grated cheese
Start by cooking Penne pasta until its almost done then set it aside. Fry 4 slices of bacon until they are crispy then set them aside as well. Pour the bacon grease in to the pot and get a whole onion chop it up as well as some mince meat (lean is not recommended) and chuck it in the pot, fry the onions with the meat until they are caramelized and the meat is cooked. Chop the 4 bacon pieces in to bits, then put the bacon and pasta in with the onion and meat. Get tomato sauce or soup in a can and pour it in, fill the can with water twice and pour that in as well. Let all ingredients cook together on a simmer, then add the grated cheese, combine it with all the ingredients then proceed to spread out the remaining cheese on top and put the lid on. 2-3 Minutes should go and it's done.
looks hard
Greg's Kitchen It's very easy to do.
A bit of sour cream or thick Greek-style yoghurt to top it off will make it a bit more spesh!
oohhh
Looks good Greg. Thumbs up. Be careful. If you eat very much you will wake up tomorrow in a very bad way, lmao@you.
:D
Has Yuri Geller been in your spoon draw again?? Good winter soup Greggo!!
:P
I would make love to that soup, Greg. You know that, right?
i did
LOL
Is that a special left handed spoon
Hooray! It's finally uploaded! I was gonna ask if I could put beans in this soup. Do you think that's alright?
i wouldnt, but i guess you could as long as they were dried ones, or at the end and well rinsed
+Greg's Kitchen that's exactly what I was going for. Just small beans to replace peas or maybe put them with peas as well! Thanks.
Never had zucchini soup though. They say it's good.
:D nice
:D
is the ham raw or precooked?
never made pea and ham soup will give it a try
its super tasty mmmmm i want some now!
ive been making thus since i found this recipe so just wanted to say thank you my hubby raves about this to all our friends and his workmates lol
I love how the meat falls of the bone after its been in a slow cooker :D
i love a nice meaty bone
Looks fabby! I'd be tempted to keep the meat seperate and have it on bread and butter along with the soup.
Try 3 cups stock, rest water 👍
I got a slow cooker/ pressure cooker and i had this done in 45 minutes and instead of carrots i used potatoes
And by the magic of youtube WAAABEEEEEEEM
nice slow cooker greg.did you treat your self some new shoes too?
so these are hard peas.. no need to soak overnight?
no they get soft when you cook them
