- I decided to take down my website, so here’s the recipe instead thank you and sorry for the confusion
Pea and ham soup
Ham bones 2 or 1 hock/shank
Dried green split peas 250g
White onion 2
Celery 2 sticks
Garlic 2 cloves
Carrot 2
Fresh or frozen peas 250g
Unsalted butter 1 tbsp
Black pepper lots
Split pea and ham soup, the perfect winter warmer, I assumed that pea and ham soup was a British classic but after a quick research it would seem that the humble pea soup dates back to at least 500BC to ancient Greece where street vendors would sell soups made from dried cultivated peas at the road side.
The technique of using dried peas to make soup has been popular all over the world, perhaps combining a ham bone to the pot and then scraping off the scraps of ham when they are tender and adding them to the finished soup is the British contribution to this the most comforting of winter warming treats?
Either way split pea and ham soup is one of my absolute favourites and I hope you will give this one a try.
*An excellent video and recipe Matt! I love a good split pea soup!*
For some reason, I haven't been making it as much living here in Spain! haha I'm looking forward to this collaboration with you and Jim! :)
take care and stay safe!
I’m so happy with just split pea soup and the ham looks AMAZING!! What a wonderful comfort soup and love the crusty toasts too!!
thank you xxx
This looks AMAZING!! I once had pea and ham soup a long time ago and it was okay. But this pea soup looks really really good. Thank you Matt and I hope you have a great New Year
Thanks Lorraine, happy new year to you too xxx
One of my favorite comforting soups, yours looks fantastic! 🥣😍
thank you
Looks super tempting.. this make me hungry. 😍
Great stuff Uncle Matt, thoroughly enjoyed this; it is the perfect Winter Warmer, and it’s lovely to have nice hearty, comforting dishes this time of the year... Great stuff!! 😎😋👌🏻
My cockles are well and truly warmed watching this one Chef Matt, so delicious. A classic dish cooked to perfection...Heaps of black pepper, garlic, lots of fresh parsley and it's great you've used the stalks as well, so many people just throw them away...Split Pea and Ham Soup, what's not to love😋👍!!!
Thanks Patrick, my daughter came for lunch and this has always been her favourite soup, strange how people dont use the parsley stalks, in my professional days it was a sin to not use them.
Such a delicious soup! Love the final presentation with the cream on top ! The perfect dish full or nutrients perfect for these cold days ! And really nice the little story about its origin! See you soon 😋👩🏻🍳👏🏼
thank you x
أهلا وسهلا بك اتمنى ان يكون التواصل بيننا 👍🌷🖐️🙏
It's funny I love celery but not when it's cooked.
My mum's favourite I'm going to make it for her now.
Perfect soup 👍 looks so delicious and healthy 😋 fully watched 💯👍 thanks for sharing 🤗 Please stay safe and healthy 😊
Thanks so much
Looks yummy and easy to make. Will try this. Thank you 😊
Uncle Matt I am so in love with this split pea you made with the bone in ham- that flavor . Absolutely a perfect comfort soup to have for this cold weather.
Thanks so much x
Thank you so much! This yummy smooth velvety soup is so perfect this time of year. Uncle Matt, your lesson and demonstration is very thorough and super to watch. It makes my mouth eater. You have definitely elevated pea soup. All dressed up with cream and parsley? Wow, yes! Thank you so much.
Thank you Carole xxx
3:54 the ham is fall of the bone perfect.
I am glad you did not pass it through a sieve.
All those textures in the soup is what makes it delicious.
I would have liked this this past weekend. I was up in the mountains.
Thanks Alex, definitely a winter warmer
It's been too long since I've had a nice pea & ham soup.
Oh lovely a soup my kids will like! Your production values are great Matt, by the way, very arty food and I love the fan art, too!😋
Thanks so much and the fan art was my very talented daughter who wants to be an illustrator, had to pay her to make it for me but I'll be using her skills again when it's time to work out some merchandise
I absolutely love pea and ham soup, and yours looked proper good! That ham looked amazing, and reminded me of when I was younger and I would pick up a ham hock from the local butcher, and start eating it straight away! Glad to see that I am not the only 'pepper fiend' too! 😉 Take care mate!
I don't think I've ever put too much pepper in anything, love that stuff. Funny how we remember those food stuffs from when we were kids, I definitely used to dunk bread in the dripping if I could get near it without a clip round the ear, the other was getting the cake batter from the bowl.
@@unclemattscookerylessons Mmmm dripping! Now that's a thing you don't see as much these days! My dad used to make me a sandwich of it, with salt! 😂
Ummm love split pea and ham soup!! Thank you for another fantastic dish!
You can't go wrong with either my friend 🍻
I'm here 🔥
Another great demonstration. So simple and yet so effective. 5/5
thanks Eugen
I’m going to make this because I found out it’s amazing for your gut health. Love the video
I didn't know it was so healthy? I knew it was super tasty though
@@unclemattscookerylessons this soup was delicious! Making some more this week.
👌👌🇿🇦
Nice classic soup that is relatively easy to make. We call the recipes that use yellow peas Canadian split pea soup.
over here the yellow peas are also used for peas pudding which is basically and really thick puree
Uncle Matt - another recipe that has got me drooling mmmmm 😋👍🏻
thank you
Looks lovely 😊 x
Well Uncle, I'm a bit too old to worry about warming my cockles but looking at the soup drives me crazy coz I'm still on my diet...I've dropped 50kgs now. Mum (I think) would put the bones back in until serving. Your soup is wonderful I can tell by looking...thanks again Uncle..cheers and happy and prosperous year. 🥣 🍷
amazing progress with your weight loss, good for you
@@unclemattscookerylessons Thanks Uncle...I only have to hate life and drop another 50 kgs. cheers
