As a railroader some comments in no particular order:
1)The extra air pipes on the locomotive are MU pipes, for controlling brakes on multiple engine consists. They go from the outside: Locomotive Brakes, Bail Off, and Main Reservoir. The air pipe that attached to the cars is the train brakes.
2)Speed in a locomotive shop (and car repair facility) is 5 mile by USA federal law. Outside in the actual yard the speed would be 10.
3)The 8800 series locomotives hold about 3000 gallons full.
4)The glass on the outside of the fuel tank is called a sight glass, and is suppose to show the level of diesel in the tank when they work.
5)The governor handle when starting the loco is to assist with starting for locomotives that don't want to start right. Once the locomotive is started, all it does is rev up the locomotives, therefore burning fuel.

Finally!!!!!!!!!! A Simulator that allows you straight out of the box to GET OUT OF THE CAB!! I've been wanting to do that in the SCS games. This is not a game, by any stretch of the imagination. This is a SIMULATOR, the purest form of simulation I have ever seen in a train simulator let alone in any other kind of simulator. I can't wait to build my gaming system so I can use this simulator to its fullest capacity.

The reason your not getting a bill is because CSX already paid for the fuel. Your job is to drive the train, you don't pay for fuel.

CSX Trains hold 4500 - 5000 gallons total ( I used to fuel them) and most of the time the sight gauge on the tank is dirty and sometimes the digital gauge didn't work either. At our site we used a hose to check the fuel level.

EMD SD40-2. Former Seaboard System (headlights are on nose) but the number refers to a former Conrail unit. (Referring to the real 8830) built in September 1977 as Conrail 6435 and became CSX 8830 in the early 2000's. just some pointers. 2 horn blasts when moving forward, 3 for backwards, in yard the bell stays on. the sightglass on the fuel tank is fuel level (holds 4000 US Gal of diesel, 1900 is very low). the cables you mentioned at the end. the one under the coupler is air, the 6 smaller ones are Multiple Unit cables for couping with other locomotives.

all of those different pipes are adressing different circuits, the doors on passenger cars are pneumatically controlled, but those could not operate on the circuit of the brakes, seeing as these are rather "naked" carriages, the brakes are probably the only pneumatic circuit on the train.

The level of detail is interesing - BUT until now every mainstream train "simulation" game is let down by a - mostly stupidly - inaccurate braking system. Arguably the most important thing in railroading. Only small audience (hardcore) simulators like Run8 have achieved that until now, it really is a shame that so many people play these games and think they have an idea how train brakes work. Being a "real" engineer I can tell them: They don't. So this is maybe a chance for Train Sim World, sadly I can't test it yet so we have to see.
Little comment on your video: The independent brake is for shunting like you did on the turntable, no need for the automatic brake even though the end result would is the same.
Nice video, like watching your stuff!

    • @squirrel
      @squirrel  7 років тому +20

    • @Rotausleuchtung

Felix It is a little better, yes. But many factors like slack action, DPU control (fences, brake pipe reduction) are not simulated. I didn't manage to drain the brake system to get a runaway and much more.
I get it is a game for a big audience but like Squirrel said: In FlightSims you can get pretty realistic where you crash easily if you mess up.

  • @Phoenix37csp
    @Phoenix37csp 7 років тому

ok, a little help for you sir.
when moving just a locomotive, use the independent brake. the automatic is for cars.
the visual fuel gauge doesn't usually show fuel until 2-3000 gallons.
a "full" tank is around 5,000 gallons.
the other 3 brake hoses are for when connecting 2 locomotives together, along with the big electrical cable called the M.U. Cable.
i wont put you into boredom with rules, but those things should answer your questions.
Fyi, speed on a turntable is 1 mph, and you NEVER get out of a locomotive unless the hand brake is tied and the reverser is neutral.
all lights should be on dim when moving.

I love your videos and have learnt a lot from them but this one made me cringe a lot. A lot of other people have pointed out your misconceptions which are understandable but the issue of the brakes is one that kept getting me. The independent is for use on the locomotive only (it works independently of the train) while the automatic brake is for use when you have a train attached and is often called the "train brake" for that reason.
You were absolutely correct with the Start/Stop/Run switch. Put it into Start or Stop for either of those things and into Run after it is started. If you don't then the loco won't move. The Generator Field switch does not have to be switch on to start the loco only when you're ready to move it. I was very impressed with the level of simulation of the loco systems.
Once again you've impressed me with another presentation of a very good quality simulator but really, you're costing me a small fortune as every time I see one of these I have to go out and buy the bloody thing!

FWWR 2008 Well in the UK at least we have two air hoses for air brakes on most trains and trucks as well I think one with red taps for the train pipe and another with yellow taps from the locos main air reservoir or tank which is always pressurised to fill the reservoirs on the rest of the train otherwise the air from the train pipe will be used to keep air in them and it will take longer to release the brakes.

This probably won't get fixed but the real csx 8830 does not look like that... It looks like the model of the sd40 they're using are EX Seaboard Coast Line (low headlight on nose and high ditch lights on walkway) Which only makes up a quarter of the sd40 roster. Most csx sd40's have high headlights (where the number boards are) and low ditch lights below the walkway.

Going to enjoy this when it's complete...can't wait...would be nice if American Truck Simulator would eventually have the same level of detail that this has...would love to exit my truck and refuel, hook up trailers, etc...but hopefully we get more States to drive in first...great vid Squirrel

Very soon you will have to make a whole consist with the train cars that are in the yard. But not sure they want that far to get that up and going.

This is great detail.. the only inaccuracy I can find is that this engine wouldn't start up with the 'engine run' and 'local control' breakers down.

I wonder if we can get a map dlc of Sodor (Thomas & Friends) after the game is release fully?

top brake is the independent brake or loco brake and bottom brake is for the train brake, also carriages are for people and wagons are for freight, just sayin.

For freight, there is only one hose. It's for the air brakes.

You will only see one pipe connected to carriages, on locos all the pipes including the red cable will be connected to the loco

Seing the level of detail on this one, I'm really curious if they can pull of something similar with a steam engine, that'd be fun
