I've played some of the best games on steam and some of the worst games on steam.Many developers have the ambition and good intentions to make something enjoyable but a lot just aren't there yet or simply lack the experience to it all together.
In my hunt for hidden gems I've found many devs portfolio that blow my mind and in this case, not for positive reasons! These train simulators had some potential, maybe not in the beginning but towards the end. A travel simulation isn't a bad concept but this dev portfolio proves that a good idea is only as good as the person behind it.

Worst Game On Steam, is a question that hopefully turns out to be false each time. These are games that won't fit the longer form What Went Wrong videos.

Fun fact: you can refund items on steam past the 2 hour mark if one of the following is true:
1. The game literally runs so poorly that after 2 hours of trying to fix it, you gave up.
2. The game has a proven track record of being dog shit (AKA has a large amount of refunds in Steams records)
3. The game does not accurately depict the expectations of game play. (IE. forcing you to play the game for 2 hours without being able to save or even do anything promised in the videos)
4. The game does not properly or accurately list computer spec requirements. (not applicable here but still)
and a few other things....
so technically you can actually get a refund for a steam game up to 4 hours into gameplay if the game LITERALLY does not do as advertised. For the future of gamers spending their money to show us shit games....
I don't think the up to 4 hours is the true limit either, I've heard many people successfully refunded Helldivers 2 after the PSN fiasco.
@@maksrambe3812 Thats true.....I mostly said the up to 4 hours thing because I have done this on multiple occasions and KNOW that without any issue the 4 hour mark worked out fine for me. I think it really depends on controversy surrounding the item in question
On the other hand. I had 0 minutes on Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, but I had owned it for about 6 months. I went ahead and downloaded it on my Steam Deck, where the game is steam deck verified as playable. When I tried to launch it I got an error that was caused by a change in their anticheat which means it can't run on Linux. They didn't give me a refund despite this fact, I presume it was just an automated response and they didn't consider my situation.
Btw, it's still listed as playable.

Why am I not even surprised - unfortunately the issue might have been that someone saw it and was like "This was purchased WAAAAY before this was ever an issue. Denied" which with refunds they tend to be more strict on the amount of time owned than amount of time played.....
The seesaw in that game actually works because it's just a widely used asset that already had it working to begin with. I've seen that same exact asset neighborhood in a ton of indie horror games, equipped with the same meme monkeys.
These games just feel like someone is making updates to a game that already exists and is selling each update as it's own game.

@GundAme412 Even then those games get updates and DLC for a while before new games are made, this feels like the Dev is selling a new game each time they make what would be a major update to your average game.
i agree, that just like those mobile games brainrot keep releasing but they are all the same plus 1-2% different from the previous version, thus a total scam and money grabber, i blame the players and the consumers tho for keep "donating" for these scum sneaky actions

As a Russian, I can guarantee you that the models of bus passengers in "Trans-Siberian Legends" were ripped straight out of GTA San Andreas MultiPlayer mod called "Criminal Russia", which added a new map, lots of cars and those models. It was quite popular before GTA5 RP servers came around

If only that. The passengers models have been used as assets in Trainz Railroad Simulator too, even back in 2012, probably earlier. From watching the video, I can literally name the stolen vehicles and buildings from Trainz.

Just get into a German train.. It will be delayed mostly and you need to get another one in perfect time.. So.. Just go by train in Germany and you don't need to play a game for that
The developer (Deutsche Bahn) even provides a real life experience and a massive network of theme parks around the entire country
Train Travel Simulator - german edition would be a very small game: just a train station where you wait for hours and days for your delayed train. And then you die.
Yeah, where most train travel games are meant to be relaxing the Deutsche Bahn Travel Sim would be extra stress inducing including nice features as last second delays, unannounced cancellations and of course just non apparent changes in platforms that are announced 1 or 2 minutes before departure where you have to sprint across the whole train station to get from platform 1 to platform 12 while fighting your way through the hallways and overcrowded escalators
PS: oh, i almost forgot my favorite feature: unannounced cancellations of certain train stops and or just the train ending at a station way before end station for some non-descript reason

But if the train does arrive you can enjoy beautiful scenery, and if you're in the right parts of the country, visit picturesque late medieval towns
In the US version you go to the station and they tell you the train is canceled due to a landslide, and you'll have to take alternate bus service. Then the rest is just a remake of Desert Bus.

It feels like the dev is slowly learning and improving, but every 5 new assets he finds and 1 new feature he learned, he releases it as a new game xD

17:40 Vintage (basically up until the soviet collapse) russian films are actually copyright free. You can catch pretty much all of them including Tarkovsky's for free on the official Mosfilm channel. So yes, the movie on that television is most certainly there in full.

As a native Russian speaker I can say a fragment around 24:00, when they are in a car, is hilarious. Very natural Russian swearing. I don't know, while I wouldn't call these good games, I would find them kinda funny for their relatability.

'Don't fuck around then!' etc etc. The thing about Russian swearing is that it's practically a language in of itself. Literally. That's not an exaggeration. It's traditionally been used as a bandit language since the middle of the 19th century or so. So there's really no direct translation for a lot of the words because they've evolved to be very specific, 'fuck' really doesn't cover either the meanings or the intensity. It's honestly pretty vile, and there's quite a few people who take great pride in speaking only in that language.

Edit: during the 70's small town centers were destroyed and rebuilt exacty the same in Sweden too. So if you go to a lot of small towns they will have exactly the same town square with a mall as all the other ones. It's real sad now in hindsight. City planners here got real into that brutalism thing.
Bro. I live in America and the entire country is the same. Russia has incredible change in layout, even within cities, with tons of greenery/ different building materials and styles, stores, markets, shops, everything is new and interesting. Don't even get me started on the rural areas.
You really can get away with anything on steam if people are dumb enough. Creating six copies of the same game with sight appearance swaps and asking for money..actually the most absurd example yet.
Eh, EA has been doing that with Fifa and Madden for years and they actually ask for full price AND microtransactions. In comparison this is almost reasonable really.
It’s showing up on PlayStation now too. There have been several “Bus Simulator 2024”s that are all the same port of a cheap mobile game
Now imagine the whole mess as "Train Travel - Deutsche Bahn" where you have to wait 15min in real time and afterwards another 45mins because the train is late of course and after waiting long enough it gets cancelled.
Please don't let EA, Paradox, or DoA see how these games implemented DLC. They might get ideas

Or turning Addons from being their own thing content wise into P2W packs by allowing people with on purpose overtuned DLC weapons (at least for a few weeks/months before they get nerfed) to use them in the base game?
Those are just for EA products mind you.
They already got plenty of ideas, even on making money out of nothing - another prime example for that would be Ubisoft selling ingame cash for real money on Ghost Recon Breakpoint (same as Skins ripped from their other games) while tuning down the best grinding methods for said ingame currency, not that they haven't sold ressources in some other entries as well (e.g. Assassins Creed Syndicate), but for Breakpoint they specifically went out of their way by preventing players from effectively farming it.
They can get away with it due to their games being niche and niche games generally requiring more monetisation through dlc and the like.
When your games sell low numbers, you gotta make the money through other stuff. Granted they are a bit aggressive but the format makes sense and isn't some crime against humanity. Niche games just gotta do it differently to justify their existence to investors and the like and you gotta remember, it's the suits that have no idea how games work, that decide if a series of games gets to exists or not@@TeemoQuinton

FYI during soviet era most cities actually had the same layout, this is so much so that it is the story of a movie where a guy gets shitfaced and travels from Moscow to Leningrad by plane due to mixup with his friends, tells the taxi outside the airport to take him to his address (which is the same in Leningrad) and his key opens the door to the apartment, which is in a identical building(just in Leningrad) and from there is spoilers.

Randomly teleported to the hospital after drinking an NPCs beer only to be greeted by convulsing, screaming people that everyone else ignores. I couldn't stop laughing, 10/10, best in game shitpost I've ever seen.
The funny thing is, with how liberally Valve applies their refund policy, I don't think that artificial time waster would prevent people from gettung a refund.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the 2h thing is more of a guideline than a hard rule so the developer pulling that is probably grounds for refund even if you end up over 2h

I can confirm from personal experience that there is indeed a massive class struggle on the Trans-Siberian. There were backpacker types at the back, and the farther forward you went, the better dressed and more high-faluting the cabins and the passengers.
The different classes of people did not intermingle.

Nah I think people should be free to sell what they want on the platform. And you are free to just not buy them, and if you do, you can just get a refund if it doesn't provide the experience you thought it would.

@@Dorraj they made the train ride to get to the end of the game specifically 2:20 hours so you would exceed your refund time. There is a DLC to speed up the train ride which you can only use after you played it without.
Also, they sold the same game with like two added features (what would be considered an update) like four times.

Before watching this, I thought the worst train game on Steam was Half-Life 2: you only get to ride the train for a minute or two and then you’re in a drab station where masked cops threaten to beat you for no reason, and it only gets more dangerous from there with no more trains to ride

Pretty sure you could report the third game's scummy refund dodge exploit to Steam staff and they'd do something about it. I, myself, have been surprised by how much they care and listen

Agreed, it would be pretty hard to argue that they’re doing that for any reason other than to dodge the refund. Especially when it’s the same copy pasted scene. It’s the same 5 minute gameplay loop.

Somehow the train travel simulator with real time reminds me of Desert Bus, where you had to drive the entire 8-hour trip without possibility to save.
Train Travel is a very deep game. You see alcohol doesn't change anything for you and is saying that in life, you don't need alcohol.
This concept of buying DLCs to improve the game is equally predatory and interesting, I really think it's a concept that can be explored in some way.
The concept reminds me of Evoland but in that one everything is bought in game. It's also an actually fun experience though.

For russian train trip 2, a note: The Steam refund policy does actually allow for refunds after 1.5 hours. It's just that after 1.5 hours you need to justify why you should get a refund, before it Steam will just grant it automatically. Like for example, I've gotten a refund after 4 hours because I explained that the game in question was so slow paced that it took me 3 hours just to play through the tutorials, and in the 1 hour of actual gameplay I realised it wasn't my kind of game.
So you could totally get a refund for shit like this, just explain that it's over 2 hours of just sitting without any gameplay and I'm pretty confident that they'd give you a refund. Also, I think the store page can be reported for fraud because of the false review scores.
Not gonna lie, the idea of having an in-game tv that shows a full public domain film is pretty ingenious.
The darkness on xbox360 and ps3 did that, it was great

what would be cool would be if there were a game that could let you train travel across the entire world, and it would show realistically every single train station in the world with all completely different people in stations & carriages.. and maybe you could get rewards for having specific routes.. maybe you have to find ways to afford the train tickets like busking in the stations of getting jobs

There are a couple like that. Train Sim World 4. The great thing about that one that I looked up is all of the dlc costs about the same as a real train. 😂 I think there's another called train life or something like that.
Oh yeah. Train Sim is like flight sim. You can literally conduct a train just like you would in real life. I've always wanted it I've just never bought it.
@@poolhalljunkie9 if you like paying lots of money for dlcs you should try paradox.. eu4 has about 20-30 dlcs.. i think if you buoght each one full price ud end up spending $300-500... they are rip off merchants.. they add a tiny bit of content. the sort of thing other developers give either free or for a few dollars and then they charge $10-15 for it.. and the longer you dont buy their new dlcs the more your game breaks

The most scam in the scam is : The man called his game Trans Siberian Legend like the initials of a real train sim game " TSL" ... and i'm SURE it's not made without the intent to abuse of people lack of knowledge on theses games... he know what he do.
And i d k why , but i'm SURE he tried to put a "TSL" in his logo / arts pictures / previews etc but was stopped by legal problems.
It's too obvious to be random.

Steam asset flips
I sincerely hope you got a refund on each and every one of these games. The intention of this, as you said, was very obviously not the craft. Other "worst games" I can at least give the benefit of a doubt to the dev, however small, but not this one. Especially the refund dodge, as others have said that one should be reported to Steam since it preys on the exact type of person who would even consider this sort of game as anything other than an asset flip.
It's games like these that make me wish steam was more proactive with content monitoring.
We used to have community monitoring.
People didn't use it, waved through those kinds of products as well and it took too much time for actual proper indie games the get released - so it got dropped.
Steam is solely a marketplace where devs can put up their products with an arbitrary barrier of having to put up a fee at the start - the fact that this dev made multiple games tells you more about consumers than anything else, as he'd not have done so if he didn't earn enough back and operated at a loss.
And if people think it's worth their money, then well, by all means, they can waste it on that, its their money.
@@Unknown_Genius the problem is, these games pretend to be more than they are to bait people into buying them, and then refund-dodge to prevent people from refunding them. I don't think anyone who legit bought one of these games thought it was worth their money after playing.

If you'd play this and not realize after an hour that you probably should get a refund, then I don't know what to tell you - these are probably the most obvious "extreme niche that's not worth most peoples money" examples I've seen - and I refunded a lot of games during the years with none even being close to this level of a "how fast can I click the refund button" simulator.
Also there's a report button to get it checked manually by support staff - and given that those games are 4€ and never state that there's more than sitting on a train and looking out of the window while being able to run around a bit good luck with that as they tell you straight up what you get.

I would honestly unironically love a game that was just simulating a real-time train trip. Where you can see interesting scenery out the window, go to different destinations, speak to passengers, maybe have some randomized passengers. Like, something like these games except developed with care and not abandoned and randomly released for a money grab.
This is the best review by a wizard of bad copy-pasted train-based games with DLC women ever.

It seems to me that this developer just doesn't understand how steam exactly works, and is thinking that he has to put up an entirely new game each time he updates.
It's hilarious the "developer" seems to just be learning how to add the most basic possible "features" in a quest to figure out what people will pay for. At least hilarious until you realize they're probably at least somewhat succeeding at the scam.

A really accurate game about traveling in Russia. Same panel houses in every city, same signs, same view from the window between stations. The dev knew his job. And the hospital, yeah, quite literally interpreted.

Well, it is interesting, that the destination of the train in the first game was set as "Ryazan". I have visited Ryazan, it is a city in 200 km / 125 miles to the South-East from Moscow. It was about 5 years ago, and I saw there a local commuter train, just staying on some dead end side track on the station. Destination signs on both side of the train said it was going to the place called "Рязань-2" (Ryazan-2). But it was the Ryazan-2 station already, at least it was said on the signs! And I can assure you, there no circle lines around Ryazan at all. So that train litteraly wasn't going anywhere, or it was at the same time on the start and the end of its journey. It was in superposition, I dunno, I even have written a short novel about that train. I'm so glad they made a game about it
also there is a little saying in central Russia: "v Ryazani griby s glazami", wich one can translate as "in Ryazan mushrooms do have eyes". I feel, it all may be connected somehow
