Jeff Favignano lol even still they wanted you to walk another mile to the other end of the train!!? at that point I would check if there was a taxi function smh
As a former Iron Ore Load-out operator, this video is hilarious. You are doing exactly what every rookie Engineer does on their first run through. The key is to have the loco run at a slow constant speed and the Load-out Operator will start and stop the loading of each car. Don't worry, success comes with experience.
My dad is a locomotive engineer and he watched this video with me because I am a big fan of you Jeff and the whole time he was face-palming and correcting your mistakes.
It's definitely nice they let you walk around freely and to handle tasks like switching tracks and stuff. Gives a greater sense of being in the game as a person rather than just a vehicle.
Jeff Favignano hey Jeff if I could, I'd do over all the progress you lost I knew you are frustrated and I was screaming in my head GO TO THE NEW LOCOMOTIVE! But I love your content I've been a sub since around episode 30 of LSPDFR SP and for all I care you can just skip this and go to the part two of it keep up the good work and also a little request, can you please do a bit more DOJ with polecat and buggs?
When you cut out the brake, knock down those breakers, you're effectively disabling the locomotive....it's can't be a lead locomotive now. I'm guessing the lead locomotive is on the other end of those cars you coupled to.
JEFF. IM PRETTY SURE WHAT THEY MEANT BY LEAD LOCOMOTIVE WAS THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER LOCOMOTIVE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WHOLE TRAIN LOAD THING. AND YOU HAD TO WALK ALL THE WAY (1 MILE AS IT SHOWED) AND GO TO THE OTHER LOCOMOTIVE.
Tristan Flora I’ve actually used some of these videos to practice my car counts and tying into cars for my job at the railroad. Very useful due to the realism.
+Jeff Favignano cool video man. :) congrats to Dovetail and everyone for the massive performance increase. Little fun fact: (being a train enthusiast, i know this) the throttle on the ac4400cw is called a combined power handle. many modern locomotives have this. it has both throttle and dynamic braking on it. you can also set the train speed using the digital computer on the locomotive
You set the engine that you were in to be a trailing engine. That means you effectively changed the front of the train. You were in the rear locomotive.
Hey Jeff. You can use the computer in the locomotive to set the slow speed control. Once you set the speed, 2mph is what you want for coal loading, you can set the throttle to any speed you want and the computer will hold the loco at your set speed.
Their was another Loco at the back of the train. You set up the loco that you were in to Tail which means that the loco you were in was the back loco and the loco at the other end was going to be the lead Loco.
My fear with these games is that it may make it seem like one person can run a train... there’s a reason a conductor AND engineer assist each other to move freight in North America. A 2-man crew is extremely important to safe freight in our communities. Train compliance, grade, track speed vs train speed, horn sequence at grade crossings, dispatch helping to keep schedule, etc. all parties involved are vital to safe freight movement. Technology is important, but can not compromise public safety... looks like fun! But let’s keep it in perspective and if you have a chance- vote on 2 crew minimum legislation!
Unfortunately PTC can do all that as well. While I don’t want to lose my job I don’t think there’s anyway to stop the inevitable. Sooner or later it’ll go to 1 and then none. Many shortlines already run with just an engineer and the conductor drives to the location in a truck
The lead locomotive was at the other end of the train. When you were preparing the other locomotive, it said trail, that means to be behind the lead engine.
Now I'm fucking irritated, right, because I SAW this comment and I was like: "Yeah but keep watching I bet once he figures it out he drives somewhere..."
The reason it takes a second for the train to move is because of the realistic physics engine used in this simulator. In real life, the air needs time to go from the locomotive's on-board compressor all the way to the end of the train in order to fully release the brakes, so they won't release as soon as you move the lever to release. Also, it takes the traction motors a moment to load up with current. Just a fyi to help your future sessions a bit more fun. I only know these things because I was onboard these things every day for a while as a conductor lol.
At 12:24 you didn't have to get out and walk back to switch the track. Bring up the map (key 9) and go to the switch you need to change. Click the green dot and the track switches, now you can go.
The reson you couldnt do anything in the engineers seat was because the locomotive you were in, you just set to the trailing mode of the entire train. You were supposed to go to the locomotive at the other end and jump in that one. Hence the objective that was 1 mile away. Love the vids though Jeff
Very late to this, but this is really similar to how grain cars (experience with Soybeans, Corn, Sorghum, and Wheat) are filled. Depending if it's a circle track or not, you'll fill anywhere from 5-10 cars one at a time. Usually takes a couple minutes to fill the car. However, in the more big volume places we used remote controller engines. The conductor is usually sitting up in the tower next to the person that's controlling the loading chute.
Amen to Dovetail for their listening skills! Also there is a tutorial on a function on the AC44W or whatever this loco is lol where you can set it to a constant speed so it doesn't fluctuate all the time.
you prob already realised. but you were actually the rear loco. you had to climb out and go to the other end of the train after you hooked up to the other ones. thats why it had you release everything from yours so it wouldent fuck with the other one
Maybe there was another locomotive that was at the other end of the train that you coupled to? The waypoint said 1mile away possibly because the train is that long. I think that final step was you setting your train up as the "trail" locomotive and the other "lead" one was at the ther end. I was screaming at my screen when you quit the mission but anyways fun video to watch and I'm glad they fixed some of the FPS issues..
After you coupled the cars, you flipped all those switches. Those switches turned that unit into a DPU ( dispersal power unit). The lead locomotive was at the other end of the train. That AC44OOCW you were in no longer controlled the train.
What are you talking about? None of that changed the motor to a DPU. He just set the locomotive up for trail, as it would be as a second, third, fourth, etc locomotive in a consist behind the leader. DPU has to be set up in software on the screens, you have to do all kinds of stuff in the computer of the leader and the DPU unit to link them up.
When releasing the brakes you need to wait a few seconds to let the air release throughout the train. Also, you want to gradually power up the locomotive, not immediately go to a high notch.
Yeah, he needed to take a mile walk to the new end of his train, which just became the new lead. The loco he’s sitting in is now the trailing power lol.
Advices: You know you can just use the flying view to switch the tracks. Also, I know how long it could take to load the coal, but you just need at least 90% filled, if the signs above each car are green, you're good.
The game is not bugged, you are. The lead locomotive is now the other end of the train. It even told you your destination was 1 mile away. You had to walk to the new lead locomotive on the new end of the train. I know you recorded this episode 1 year ago, but I think you should give this mission another shot, after all, it has been quite a while since you have played train sim. So what do you say, give it a 2nd try?
Jack Maslov CZ, Thanks a lot! I love CSX Heavy Haul. I just really want him to finish it now that he knows what he needs to do. I reviewed your account, sadly, I don't speak russian. I saw your xbox name. You can add me on xbox: TJTheGamer257
The lead locomotive is that 1 mile waypoint. That's is y Jeff, you switched the loco you were in to trail mode. That way when you're in the lead loco the two locos won't operate independently but as one unit
I love trains and this game is an absolute dream to me. This is the kind of train game I’ve been wanting. And what’s better is that I have it on my ps4. Because I don’t have a pc so I’m happy with my purchase of this game so far.
You have to understand that with a long train, the brakes take longer to apply and to release. If you are on a level track you can hold your train still with just the locomotive brake, and stop a short train with those as well. They apply and release quicker than trainline brakes. Also you set your locomotive up to be a trailing helper at the end of your task, you have to go to the other end of the long train you just made by coupling the part you loaded to the loaded cars that were standing on that track.
At the end it had you turn off the engine you where in. Then it said get in the lead engine with a marker saying it is one mile away. Why do you think its the same engine?
Dude you cut out the power and put it in trail. There for it is no longer lead. It is DP now. Go to the the other side of your train, that's now your headend.
sometimes when we have 3 or 4 units on the head end we will cut the first 1 or two off the head end and run them to back of the train but about a week ago i like to never got the end train off the Knuckle lol i gave it one long cussing lol
I forgot but on the display it has 2 columns that match the buttons and they say stuff like speed control or something like that and if you want to increase or decrease speed. It's in the coal loading tutorial. It's really helpful.
Yeah, I've heard the game is still pretty buggy (at least according to the Steam reviews). Think I'll probably end up getting it, once they've gotten the majority of the kinks ironed out.
There is a setting on the computer console for cruise control. You set the cruise for a steady 3mph and the train will move and hold that speed. The coal will start and stop loading automatically as the train continuously moves.
Yes I agree ,I wish the graphics and details were as high scaled as TSW,but it lacks it. Overall Run 8 is a fun game, but it needs more content like more locos, cities, job tasks, more cars, job creator type content, awards, and more
hey Jeff don't want to make you feel bad or anything but at the end when it told u to get in the lead train if there pulling over 60 cars I think or pulling that many u got a "push train" and you should have had 2 "pull trains" some times 3 lol so don't be so hard on urself just take the time and learn keep up the great vids sir and take care god bless ya
Is the pace setter modeled? "Slow speed" in the screens. Set some independent brake paired with slow speed then you're good to go. I've loaded in real life and depending on the load out speed usually takes 3-4 hrs roughly to load a train
@jeff favignano im pretty sure the lead train is at the opposite side of the coal cars which is one mile away from the 4400 you're in. Your 4400 is the rear train.
Forward Loco GOT IT.
Jeff Favignano Was about to say it... I guess you should have gone to the other end of the train and there was a locomotive there... but anyway
Jeff Favignano lol even still they wanted you to walk another mile to the other end of the train!!? at that point I would check if there was a taxi function smh
Jeff Favignano the other end of the train is the "front" now that you've turned off that side
jeff is fucking dumbass
Jeff Favignano can you play Ship simulator.
As a former Iron Ore Load-out operator, this video is hilarious. You are doing exactly what every rookie Engineer does on their first run through. The key is to have the loco run at a slow constant speed and the Load-out Operator will start and stop the loading of each car. Don't worry, success comes with experience.

It's definitely nice they let you walk around freely and to handle tasks like switching tracks and stuff. Gives a greater sense of being in the game as a person rather than just a vehicle.
Dang they should've explained it better, you had to go to the other loco at the other end of the train.
OMFG THE LEAD LOCOMOTIVE WAS THE NEW OBJECTIVE! YOU HAD TO GET INTO ANOTHER LOCOMOTIVE!
OMFG
Jeff Favignano lmao
Jeff Favignano hey Jeff if I could, I'd do over all the progress you lost I knew you are frustrated and I was screaming in my head GO TO THE NEW LOCOMOTIVE! But I love your content I've been a sub since around episode 30 of LSPDFR SP and for all I care you can just skip this and go to the part two of it keep up the good work and also a little request, can you please do a bit more DOJ with polecat and buggs?
"Oh man, this thing gets going quick!"...doing .5mph.
Lmao
@Nathan Playzs No .5
My dad used to Work for Norfolk Southern on there main coal hauling division in the Appalachian mountains and loading coal trains was a daily job.
When you cut out the brake, knock down those breakers, you're effectively disabling the locomotive....it's can't be a lead locomotive now. I'm guessing the lead locomotive is on the other end of those cars you coupled to.
On this train there is a cruise control you can set, to say 2 MPH, then it will just fill them all. It was covered in one of the tutorials. :)
Breaking News: Local man complains about realistic scenarios in his train simulator.
Jeff, on the IFD there is a slow speed control option. You can set it it to 2 mph to fill up the hoppers. You didn’t have to do any of that.
The noise of the cars being shoved together, or stretching out is a awesome sound the first time you hear it up close.
Tristan Flora I’ve actually used some of these videos to practice my car counts and tying into cars for my job at the railroad. Very useful due to the realism.
The last objective was the opposite locomotive at the end of the train
+Jeff Favignano cool video man. :) congrats to Dovetail and everyone for the massive performance increase. Little fun fact: (being a train enthusiast, i know this) the throttle on the ac4400cw is called a combined power handle. many modern locomotives have this. it has both throttle and dynamic braking on it. you can also set the train speed using the digital computer on the locomotive
You set the engine that you were in to be a trailing engine. That means you effectively changed the front of the train. You were in the rear locomotive.
ikr
I don't know anything about this, I am not THAT into these things. Just playing the game for what it is.
Jeff Favignano wasn't trying to be rude at all, just was trying to help out, cause I could tell you were frustrated by the end :)
Hey Jeff. You can use the computer in the locomotive to set the slow speed control. Once you set the speed, 2mph is what you want for coal loading, you can set the throttle to any speed you want and the computer will hold the loco at your set speed.
6:59 it is a real job and it’s less tedious than you think.
Lol, I do that in real life. 236 cars, takes about 4 1/2 hours to fully loaded. So glad there's a game that shows the full loading sequence.
Their was another Loco at the back of the train. You set up the loco that you were in to Tail which means that the loco you were in was the back loco and the loco at the other end was going to be the lead Loco.
The modeling mixed with the lighting & all the graphics in general is just outstanding
You're in the trail loco my man. Hence the setting to trail.

TheNavyShark indeed indeed
The lead locomotive was at the other end of the train. When you were preparing the other locomotive, it said trail, that means to be behind the lead engine.
You can play with me I don’t have a problem with you
That locomotive is fitted with a "cruise control" of sorts. It makes loading all those coal cars a dream.
There's a tutorial on using the cruise control. I suggest doing it. It will make this mission go by like a breeze.
You were suppose to go to the OTHER loco at the other end of the line lol
I love Sims like this, it immerses you in the career, loading each car, that's badass, not very good for UA-cam but great for realism.
You're in the DPU, the lead locomotive is way the fuck down there! Lol
Now I'm fucking irritated, right, because I SAW this comment and I was like: "Yeah but keep watching I bet once he figures it out he drives somewhere..."

2:45 "very very clean"
How Unrealistic
Who are they fooling hahahha
At 12:24 you didn't have to get out and walk back to switch the track. Bring up the map (key 9) and go to the switch you need to change. Click the green dot and the track switches, now you can go.
ah cool, thanks Larry
Jeff Favignano your very welcome Jeff
sorry but where have (key 9) ?
Jeff, I think there may have been another locomotive at the other end of the train, because it says to go one mile. (+Jeff Favignano)
as a railroader myself this is painful to watch lol i do love your vids tho jeff keep it up
Right, I'm an engineer and it is cringe worthy to watch people play this.
"Very, very clean" that was the first laugh out load.
Same tho
The reson you couldnt do anything in the engineers seat was because the locomotive you were in, you just set to the trailing mode of the entire train. You were supposed to go to the locomotive at the other end and jump in that one.

Yup, you need to travel the 1 mile to the NOW lead locomotive.
The reason why they make you put the coal in every car is because train drivers have to in real life
You can switch the tracks on the map so you don’t have to do all that walking/running.
Amen to Dovetail for their listening skills! Also there is a tutorial on a function on the AC44W or whatever this loco is lol where you can set it to a constant speed so it doesn't fluctuate all the time.

No!!!!!! Jeff there's another locomotive at the other end of the train!!!!!

But there was no Engine at the back of the train? When he was loading the coal you could see there wasn't another locomotive back there?
Austin DeMarr did you not watch until the end? He hooked that new load up to another load that was sitting there.
Oh you're right. My bad
What are you talking about? None of that changed the motor to a DPU. He just set the locomotive up for trail, as it would be as a second, third, fourth, etc locomotive in a consist behind the leader. Yeah, he needed to take a mile walk to the new end of his train, which just became the new lead. The loco he’s sitting in is now the trailing power lol.
went walking one of these tracks today in Tn, found some helmets in the woods and brought them with us lol
CSX wishes it's AC4400 units were that clean
shamboozle22 you mean YOU wish? They don’t care😂
Advices:
You know you can just use the flying view to switch the tracks.

Tyler Anness Exactly! I agree completely!
Jack Maslov CZ, Thanks a lot! I love CSX Heavy Haul. I just really want him to finish it now that he knows what he needs to do. I reviewed your account, sadly, I don't speak russian. I saw your xbox name. You can add me on xbox: TJTheGamer257
I think that there's another locomotive on the other side
No, there wasn’t
for people watching now the tutorial shows you how to use the train computer to do it auto *makes the train move at a speed that you dont gotta stop
The amount of face palms watching you have no clue is unreal.
Yeah man...the lead engine was at the other end that's why you shut off the engine in that one...none the less I sat and watched ..haha
Ac4400 has a speed set feature which is discussed in the tutorials. Seeing you struggle was hilarious!
Hey Jeff, so when it said sit in the lead locomotive, it meant go to the other end of the train and get in that locomotive. :)
ya come on Jeff I was banging my head
sorry didn't know that was a thing in this sim
Jeff Favignano it's ok u still love your content keep up the great work!
thanks man, I am about to be done with train sim. I could always do some more tutorials but damn seems like I can't win.
Jeff Favignano it's ok we still love your work so much so keep up the good work
in real life they go at exactly 0.6 mph for a super long time until like a mile long coal train is full. I can't imagine that.
your pc specs please ?
Bru why do you need that
Been there done that, DPU train thru the Mohave Dessert Vegas to Yermo California, Down Cima Hill, Full Dynamics, Min set Train Brakes,..Here we go!!
The lead locomotive is that 1 mile waypoint. That's is y Jeff, you switched the loco you were in to trail mode. That way when you're in the lead loco the two locos won't operate independently but as one unit
"I love the sound of this thing. Man that sounds good." Something tells me you have never seen or heard an AC4400, or any GE for that matter.
JEFF. That was the trail locomotive.... You were supposed to go to the other end of the train...
lol the office clip was great!
You were supposed to go to the locomotive at the 1 mile mark
Jeff: Switching from P1, idle, reverse, idle, P2 for 27 min
Me: AC4400CW as a freaking cruise control man...
You had to go to the mile marker to get in the LEAD locomotive
I love trains and this game is an absolute dream to me. This is the kind of train game I’ve been wanting. And what’s better is that I have it on my ps4. Because I don’t have a pc so I’m happy with my purchase of this game so far.
did you think about looking to see if there was a train on the other end of the coal cars?
You have to understand that with a long train, the brakes take longer to apply and to release. If you are on a level track you can hold your train still with just the locomotive brake, and stop a short train with those as well. They apply and release quicker than trainline brakes. Also you set your locomotive up to be a trailing helper at the end of your task, you have to go to the other end of the long train you just made by coupling the part you loaded to the loaded cars that were standing on that track.
At the end it had you turn off the engine you where in. Then it said get in the lead engine with a marker saying it is one mile away. Why do you think its the same engine?
The coal loading is one of those moments where you have to keep reminding yourself you’re playing a sim lol jesus
Dude you cut out the power and put it in trail. There for it is no longer lead. It is DP now. Go to the the other side of your train, that's now your headend.
sometimes when we have 3 or 4 units on the head end we will cut the first 1 or two off the head end and run them to back of the train but about a week ago i like to never got the end train off the Knuckle lol i gave it one long cussing lol
this is surprisingly entertaining. Do more episodes plz :D
To load the coal you're supposed to keep going at a slow speed.
Jeff you can use the buttons on the display screens in the cab to keep a constant speed instead of having to go back and forth on the throttle.
Which buttons?
I forgot but on the display it has 2 columns that match the buttons and they say stuff like speed control or something like that and if you want to increase or decrease speed. It's in the coal loading tutorial. It's really helpful.
Ah ok.
Do you like the game so far? Looks very in-depth; much more so than the TS series. Worth the money?
I enjoy the game and I think it is worth the money, but the lag is pretty annoying, so hopefully they are still working on that.
Yeah, I've heard the game is still pretty buggy (at least according to the Steam reviews). Think I'll probably end up getting it, once they've gotten the majority of the kinks ironed out.
hey jeff u need to walk back to the other front off the train becose ur in the back now
when u hooked up the train your half became the end (helpers) you needed to go to the other end of the train and get in the front
The lead locomotive is the one a mile away!
There is a setting on the computer console for cruise control. You set the cruise for a steady 3mph and the train will move and hold that speed. The coal will start and stop loading automatically as the train continuously moves.
I'm waiting for him to get a knuckle. Also one unit on a coal train? Good luck moving.
Robert Sheldon Exactly what I was thinking. I would think CSX would have to get an AC6000CW to pull a one unit coal train
You did pretty good loading the train and stopping,Have you ever played Run 8 Train Simulator
no I haven't, I am not very well versed with train sims as I am mainly do flight simulation
Oh ok
Yes I agree ,I wish the graphics and details were as high scaled as TSW,but it lacks it. Overall Run 8 is a fun game, but it needs more content like more locos, cities, job tasks, more cars, job creator type content, awards, and more
hey Jeff don't want to make you feel bad or anything but at the end when it told u to get in the lead train if there pulling over 60 cars I think or pulling that many u got a "push train" and you should have had 2 "pull trains" some times 3 lol so don't be so hard on urself just take the time and learn keep up the great vids sir and take care god bless ya
Hey Jeff. On long heavy haul coal trains there are locomotives on both ends.
you sir are in the tail loco. the lead loco is at the other end.
and there was another engine coupled at the other end of the train you hocked onto;
Yea belive ur supposed to walk to the back of the train at the one mile mark and get in the "lead loco"
The Lead locomotive was attached to the coal cars you couple too.
yep I was yelling at my computer screen saying that
Hey Jeff Did You Try To Walk To The Lead Locomotive You Are At The Back Of The Train
yeah looks like you was going to need to walk over to another loco and bringit over to your setup full of cool
Lead locomotive, You should of got out of that one and walk to the other one right?
Yup.. it was that
There’s a training exercise for this in the game and it tell you to use the computer to move on it’s own at a set speed.
The cars didn't need to be 100% full, it turned to green after 90%, so you don't need to go back, if one car isn't completely full.
that is pretty dumb in my opinion
Is the pace setter modeled? "Slow speed" in the screens. Set some independent brake paired with slow speed then you're good to go. I've loaded in real life and depending on the load out speed usually takes 3-4 hrs roughly to load a train
Of the LEAD locomotive that is on the other end of train.
@jeff favignano im pretty sure the lead train is at the opposite side of the coal cars which is one mile away from the 4400 you're in. Your 4400 is the rear train.
they did a shitty job explaining that.
The lead locomotive was at the other side of the coal not the one you sar in
Came here (from my Xbox) to say this.
in rainy snowy wet weather you will have to use sand to get traction if your pulling heavy loads like coal trains.
you were supposed to go to the other end of the fucking train.......
@5:32 I have never seen Jeff any kind of them funny sayings in Any of His Videos lol 😀😁😂
