The BMCC 2.5 is bar-none top five image quality in the industry at any price point, if you're looking for a cinema look. Only the early-to-mid Alexas have better cinematic quality. Cameras are unfortunately just moving further and further away from this look as time goes on, so these early cameras are going to be very much coveted in the future. That's why I bought three ;)
I'm in Brazil and I have a Cinema 2.5k and I intend to buy another one this year. The image quality is unmatched. For me it's still the best small cinema standard camera.
My workflow is Superscale it to 4K and add a tiny bit of post-sharpening, color space transform the color space and gamma from Blackmagic Design Film Gen 1 and Blackmagic Design Film to Rec709 and Arri Log C3 respectively, then add a film look LUT such as the Rec709 Kodak 2383 D55. In the RAW controls, drop the highlights to -100 and then adjust exposure and contrast as necessary. Results are amazing!
I have the 4K too. Amazing quality for the price - i use my CANON EF L series. I don't use the BM in low light condition, like video report or kind of. It's a real cine cam for me, you need additional lighting for great picture. With the "film" on and a 24p it's like my first step in cinema school and industry with old 16mm or 35mm

Favorite image to date still… I have the 6k and enjoy the image on this one beyond words, wouldn’t change a thing as far as image is concerned. Thanks for a great video and doing the BMCC justice in 2021.
@@cutty02 me personally, if the 2.5k camera had easier shortcuts and menus and all the fixings of the 6k/4k series with current tools, yes I prefer the image and CinemaDng raw to the 6k… I actually bought the 6k at release to shoot the 3.7k anamorphic mode since other than the GH5, there weren’t a lot of cameras in that price range that offered that at the time… that said, for me personally, I don’t care too much for the super sharp image but the 6k has a lot of bells and whistles (though it’s still not the greatest when it comes to all the accessories you have to stick on it) that I wish this camera had… just a preference thing. There’s another 2.5k sample on here showcasing footage of a 60’s hippie in today’s society (flashing peace signs etc), and it just reminds me of the film image of a lot of the films I grew up and enjoyed, so preference for sure.
@@cutty02 that sounds about right based on current prices… I sold one of my spares (I had 2) last year for a $1,000 but in great condition with a 3 year warranty left on it. With a lens and battery, so long as it’s good condition I think that’s a very solid price for the unit itself. Try to look for the SSD’s (sandisk extreme 480) that’s sometimes a challenge but I found one at adorama used last week for $79… so long as you have access to those, I think it’s a solid price. They will obviously get cheaper as the years go, but so will their condition, so I think you’re in a good place if it’s a clean camera brother.

I just managed to pick up a BMPC 4k for $700 AUD. With a lens (used but good) and a few needed accessories like external battery, it came in at just under $1000. It is in as-new condition, battery still lasts around 80 minutes and still had an unused copy of Davinci Resolve Studio. I've done a few test shots and it's amazing. I can't believe how well these cameras have held up over the years.
Great! Have a look at lucadaptors for the BMPC 4K/2.5K EF version (same body) - you can get a way wider field of view and extra stop of light that way! Like an inbuilt metabones adaptor you slot in between lens and sensor
The TRS inputs are balanced if I remember right so you can record pro audio directly in to the cam with balanced XLR to TRS cables coming from a mixer.
I purchased my BMCC 2.5K EF on 2/19/14 for $1,036.87 and never used it. Long story. But I recently unboxed it, and along with a Tokina lens and Digistor 240GB SSD, I'm recording my first short videos. There's so much to learn! For the time being I'll shoot with the original software but I've downloaded the latest upgrade, dated March 19, 2015. (!) I would have thought there'd be more updates since then. Even though I have the dongle, I'm having issues launching DaVinci Resolve. So, yeah, there are challenges associated with being late to the game. I have to patient and enjoy the process. Good results will come with time.
This camera combined with the Sirui anamorphics is off the hook when shooting Scope. Surprised no one has uploaded footage. I only have the 35mm which is slightly tight (FF equivalent with desqueeze is about 60mm wide).
Anywhere upwards of 1hr - 1:30hr. Though it would be best to grab a couple! For around 2hrs+ you could opt for a larger BP-U60 battery. Keep in mind to disconnect the battery from the battery plate or remove the cable from the camera to prevent external battery drainage as it charges the internal battery at the same time.

This camera would be the absolute perfect camera to pair with dehancer. Image using Kodak Kodak Vision3 Films with a 2383 Print with this camera! It would look absolutely insane. The sensor and it's Encoding Gamma curve perfect for film emulation.
Hello friend, I have the same bmcc 2.5k MFT camera, I have a Viltrox focal reducer and I would like to see if you have any other work, a short film made with that camera so I can see an example of what I could achieve with it, I have a pair of Minolta MD lenses with those I think work already and I have heard that an acceptable image is achieved.
I use a ansso bmcc BP-U battery plate, which has a 2.5mm male DC jack. Unfortunately the camera has no electric power to the lens. The metabones cannot be powered by the camera because of it. That’s why you have to use a power cable with battery pack to power the metabones and lens. It is not necessary if you are using a fully manual focus and aperture lens though!
Depends on your configuration, in most cases I would suggest a v mount battery but if you’re after something like mine, I use an ansso battery plate for a BP-U battery. I choose BP-U batteries as they output 14v compared to a NP-F style battery. The plate can be found here: a.co/d/1Q8JItJ I shortened the wire by just opening the casing and sliding the wire into the casing to my desired length and then put it back together (it’s just held together by one screw) You’ll need a way to charge the BP-U batteries, I use this: a.co/d/iENSp28 You can find the batteries on Amazon. They’re very similar to NPF batteries as the battery base is the same, but the increase in sizes. BP-U30, U60 and U90 are all compatible with the battery plate. U60 and U90 are quite tall batteries though, but power for a long amount of time. Has some extra functions like controlling the lens aperture, power lens stabilisation and has an one click autofocus button (which is hit or miss in the best scenarios). I heard you can buy a magic booster for the EF version, which sits inside the lens turret. This helps get back some of the crop that you lose! Kind of like a speedbooster, but for the purposes of widening the FOV of ef lenses to the ef Mount. Pretty dope! Personally, I like the MFT version for the compatibility between other lenses, but having to use the metabones can make things a bit slower and requires more cabling for power
Nice footage. Why is the Cockatoo in a cage? These birds live up to 100 years in the wild with a partner they are loyal and monogamous to that partner. Free the bird.
Thank you for your comment - the cockatoo has been in our family for over 35 years and was hand reared so releasing him presents many challenges (especially in the wild). Even though it appears behind a cage in this video, you do not see the full picture! It is actually inside a very large outdoor aviary with many other birds, with enough room to fly! I appreciate your concern - rest assured he is very happy and is shown love daily and has many interactions with his own kind :)
@@GimbleProductions I rehabilitate Cockatoos and have rescued Cockatoos from people who have Cockatoos in their familes for up to 60 years, especially the hand reared, and 99.9% of the birds were able to be released after rehabilitation. A large avery, a backyard, a house, or and apartment, any living with humans is still a cage it's in captivity and has no choice, but to remain with the humans that think they need the bird in their lives, rather than humans enjoying the birds in their natural environment. It's only a humans attachement, never for the animals psychological wellbeing, and will never compare to the vastness of the sky, the hundreds of trees these birds visit daily and their interconnectedness with their bird families their own flocks, which is often in the hundreds when related flocks join at certain feeding grounds. Your Cockatoo will likely live on another 80 years, and that's a very very long time to be captive and not living life with it's own kind, raising a family and watching over it's own flocks. Anyway, I hope one day your family can reconsider keeping the bird, as it's likely to outlive you all, but not ever have real freedom.

I have the Production Camera 4k EF version of this - its an amazing camera - the image is truly cinematic.

Does this camera not accept SD cards? Only cfast?
No CFast or SD,it only accepts Solid State Drive cards（SSD）
A 2.5inch SSD is the only media that can be used :)

Hmm, I’d say anywhere between $450 - $1000 would be my best guess, depending on the state of the unit!
