This is my 6 months review of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K. Do you have one and if not do you plan to get it? * (I meant 4832x4032 in the chart) Cheers, Flo
@@Smarthalayla Blackmagic has an option for correcting rolling shutter that no one is talking about. I think more people should talk about this. Watch the video from Diod Films: ua-cam.com/video/0vJbZg12whg/v-deo.html
Your videos are among those rare ones I cannot "watch and work" or just listen. I just have to put everything aside and watch it attentively Thank you for your great job!
That's exactly what I do. When I get the notification, I can't watch it on the phone, I go on a big screen, chill with a drink and enjoy every frame and detail.
Totally agree. Engaging, relaxed, knowledgeable, transparent and humble. Great human qualities which come through in the beautiful images you create. (6k pro owner)
I think the best take away here is your honesty and transparency.... too many " influencers" are just pushing products for $$$$... but I just want the truth from someone that actually shoots with the camera day in and day out. Thanks mate , best of luck with your future projects
I thought about getting one, but just prior to this model being released, I bought the 6K G2, and frankly given the clients I shoot for, nobody would know the difference. Plus, I love the one I have. I bought the 4K first about 2 years ago and was happy with that. Now with the 6K G2 as part of my arsenal, I'm still quite happy!
From URSA 12 mini owner - a bit of a strange release for me as it only seems to subtract features (frame rates, ND) in favor of full frame which, let's be honest, unless you're shooting anamorphic all the time you'll still have to crop most of your footage to fit a 16:9 aspect. UMP has such insane resolution headroom it really doesn't matter for me as I'm able to crop from 8K for any aspect anyway so I decided to hold off on buying BMCC 6K. With that being said, I'm in the market for B cam, as my pocket 4K looks so much worse now when I look at footage from it and Ursa Mini side by side, but there is no compelling Super 35 B cam with a square body on the market from Blackmagic which we all dream about ) If only there was a Ursa Mini-Mini - Blackmagic if you're reading this!!! :D
I understand your points! I think this was more of a 'test' to see how the FF sensor would work in a body we know so hopefully we will see it in future cameras too! Full frame is not just about resolution or aspect ratio, it is also about lenses and depth of field etc. Plus you also have a new L mount! Personally I don't need a square cam but one between the 6k FF and Ursa Mini would be awesome!
Full frame now are 3:2 ratio by photo tradition, as they mostly are for hybrid camera. Nothing stops manufacturer to go 4:3 or 16:9. Oh yes something stop them, it's bot them manufacturing the sensor most of the time :) so they buy the Sony cmos or whatever. Even sony full frame cine camera like fx9 use an hybrid sensor. It's 3:2 and use only the 16:9 part of it. But a full frame 3:2 croped to 16:9 is still 1.5 bigger than a S35 16:9
I bought a 6K FF and Sigma EF-L adapter a couple of weeks ago. I had looked at the 6K FF for quite a while. Your video that compared the 6KPro and the 6K FF finally convinced me to take the plunge. The Sigma EF-L adapter worked very well on my Canon 24-70 f/2.8 but not on my Sigma EF 18-35 f/1.8. I could only dial it down to about 28 mm before it produced mechanical obstructions in the corners. I bought a Sigma L mount 24-70 DG N Art for the 6K FF so I can use the Canon 24-70 on my 6K Pro at the same time. I use multiple cameras on performance videos. I like using a variable ND filter with polarizer outdoors so I don't think I'll miss the lack of internal ND on the 6K FF. I prefer to take my Sony FX30 on hikes. It's much lighter and has great battery life.
I think you need to update the firmware of your Sigma EF 18-35 f/1.8 as it gets much more useful with the Sigma MC-21 adapter on a full frame... same happened with my attempts on a Panasonic S5II. You will need a Sigma USB docking station for the Firmware update
@@finspire8632 I'll check into that but I believe the problem may be that the Sigma 18-35 is designed for an APS-C sensor. A friend pointed that out to me after I posted.
@@markashworth2609 Hi Mark, yes it is APS-C lens but after the FW update it was very useful with nicer softer fall-of at the edges, so worth checking it out imho
Great review. I have the 6k pro and the entire Leica R kit. I was very attracted to the full frame especially to be able to have: - no multiplier on the lens, - more light - more Bokeh. But I decided to stick with my Pro. - ND filters (even if they are not the best) are indispensable and convenient for me in many scenarios. - Framerate, for me it is essential can reach 50/60 fps (no crop). - Opengate certainly needs to be cut out: 16/9 is already not very cinematic. - I should purchase the L-EF adapter. - Such an "external" sensor is quite dangerous. Sin. So good.
Thanks!! The Pro is an amazing cam and still the best camera overall these days for the money think. I love mine. I don’t see the FF as a competitor but as a different can altogether.
What a great finding your channel is. Im actually starting to prepro a documentary that im filming with the BMCC6K, and all your videos are amazingly accurate, with a lot of valuable info. Also, amazing cinematography and colour treatment!
I recommend the Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 in Nikon F. Manual aperture so can get a cheap adapter. Great centre sharpness wide open. Has a magical look. Most importantly, very minimal focus breathing
Just picked it up from their insane sale because I wanted the L mount since I use the Video Assist with the S5iix. they are a great combo with different strengths on a shoot. Great video, watched your growth for awhile, keep up the great job man. 100k is right around the corner for your channel for sure.
I have been using this camera with the Great Joy 50mm anamorphic lens and it’s been amazing! I’ve also adapted my Vintage Helios 44 with the sigma mount that you recommend and it’s perfect! Thanks Flo for introducing me to this gear!! Your such an inspiration!
That combo is pretty spectacular! I would love to try out the Helios 44 on this cam too. And no worries, thanks for watching my videos and happy filming :)
Hey Flo, love your work! Your videos played a large part in convincing me to get myself a set of vintage Zeiss lenses a few months ago, and ever since this camera was announced I have been eagerly awaiting a video from you pairing them together. Your videos of the bmpcc 6k with your Contax Zeiss lenses blew me away, and after the tantalizing comments you made about the new pair I am even more excited and curious now to see that footage. Crossing my fingers that we get a video from you about that combo soon! :D
Hey, thanks so much!! 🙏 I really want (and need) to film something with the Contax Zeiss haha. I’ve been dying to but I’ve been so busy 😅😭 Hopefully it’ll be soon! Cheers, Flo
Fun fact: Any camera will work ok in bright light, it is those that can deliver excellent images when shooting in low lighting (either natural or purposefully lit) conditions; these Blackmagic cameras can do exactly that deliver great footage in basically "the dark". We use them all the time for wildlife and scientific work.
I almost wanted to buy the Fx3, although I love the smoothness, the image is also somewhat sterile. I was thinking about buying vintage lenses for the fx3, but then I saw videos about the Black Magic camera. Now I have a conundrum. Would a Black Magic camera also work for solo shooting, traveling, capturing moments on the go?
Honestly I've been following you for a very long time and I enjoy every review you make because I know I can trust it. You always take your time testing stuff, you always have pros and cons and all the tips you give are always on point. Big plus: your aesthetic is always breath taking like the walk in the Alps. Even someone who is not interested in filmmaking can be very sensitive to your images. Last time I was watching your opengate Alps one and my wife who has no clue about what is an image: - Wow c'est trop beau! - ...
I had the original 6K and 4K before that, this new mad crazy price point on the new full frame 6K is soooo temptating. I have fond memories of the crazy image quality.
I had no interest in jumping to full frame, but when they recently ran a sale bringing the price to $1500 I couldn't resist and I'm so glad I did. Most of the images I'm capturing are about the same as my older BMPCC cameras (6K G2, 6K Pro, 4K), but the L mount finally eliminates the crop and opens the door to more lens options.
I agree with everything you say. There is no perfect camera. You buy a camera that is closest to your needs. I think the camera sensor produces stunning images and I think the menu system is simple and clear.
Thank you for this review! I am still on the BMPCC6k gen1 which I have been very happy with. I am looking to add a second BMPCC in the next couple of months so this review was very helpful. Yes, the rolling shutter issue. I wish Black Magic Design would fix that issue. Otherwise, I have loved this cam even against Canon, who's colors tend to lean toward red and magenta.
I like the way you're doing videos! thanks a lot for your content and your amazing footage. staying with Sony though for my personal needs I love to watch your channel. xoxo
@@OfTwoLands merci à toi! I actually used the bmpcc 4k for a while, also because of your videos.. I loved the color science, the overall image quality and the freedom inside the camera menu, but the lack of autofocus and internal stabilization made me go back to Sony.
Sooooo I have now purchased BMCC6k.. awaiting delivery. Currently a Panasonic s5iix shooter and been looking at these since they came out. Great honest talk about it so thank you 😊😊.
@@OfTwoLands its landed!!!My god that picture quality is unbelievable... shooting on the sigma contemporary glass. 16-28, 28-70 and 70-200.... Blown away.. Thanks again for the content it really helped me just suck it up and try this. Fun times ahead I think 🤗
Great Review! I always liked your videos about the Contax Zeiss lenses. You mentioned using them on the FF Bmpcc, did you have any issues with vignietting or unsharp corners on full frame/open gate?
Thank you!! I have only put the 28mm so far and no issues. I haven't tried my 18mm yet though which is my widest. They are made for FF so they shouldn't vignette :)
This camera is very tempting for me and I am sort of conflicted with this or the XH-2s As I am now going back to full time freelancing & weddings I think either would be a great choice and the open gate is very exciting from both - otherwise the 6KPro would be another great option. I guess my main concern with the blackmagic is battery life on long days, as you say rolling shutter isnt great though no worse than what people are use to, it is the same sensor in the S1H after all. I am very torn I keep flipping between the 2 though if this had prores and two cards i'd probably get this.
I haven't used the XH so can't really compare the two. Battery life can easily be solved using a VLock to get a few hours. That being said I never saw blackmagic cameras as being good event or wedding ones. Autofocus and IBIS would be preferable I think.
@@OfTwoLands I use manual lenses anyway so not fussed on af. And I don't want anything bulky with vmounts ( I know you can get mini ones) but I'd prefer just using a grip and getting on minimally. I think what you said too leans me to the Fuji ibis is helpful for sure, which is what I was thinking anyway. Thanks man 🤘
@@OfTwoLands I just got into filming weddings last year (mostly to help my wife's photo business) and went with the 6k pro and lots of determination! I first started with a gimbal but lately I go handheld for 90% of the day with a vmount and love it. That weight helps so much. It just takes lots of practice, I'm by no means a pro ha. Focus pulling is becoming more natural to me. Anyway, for jumping into weddings I could see how something with autofocus could make for an easy day. also built in nd is a blessing for a full wedding day
9:11 I dont know what you are talking about...i googled..it had internal nds.. Does bmpcc 6K have ND filters? This powerful model adds an adjustable HDR touchscreen, built in ND filters, and a larger battery for longer run time. You can even add an optional OLED viewfinder!
Very very much on the verge of getting it. Got the pocket 6K (first edition) right now. But no 50/60fps and no internal nd's is stopping me right now. But that sweet sweet fullframe... and battery life seems much better too. Ah well. Thanks for the video!
Damn it. I thought I knew which camera was next and now this awesome review comes out and puts a spanner in the works..! Ps my AC is pretty much sold on the 6k now from this video 🎉
Have you made a video about the dzo vespid retros? If not, can you? It’s one of the main sets I’ve been eyeing lately, and I’d love to know your thoughts.
Thank you for your thoughts, as always! Have you looked at the Angelbird cards? I’m using the 512 GB SE version, I have several, and they work flawlessly. Never used them on this camera, but in Canon, RED, and Fuji I’ve never had an issue 😉
Very good looking content. I agree it is not perfect but what you do get looks amazing. Normal to daytime lighting it works great. Very low light shoots I have had some trouble in post but I am learning workflows on set and in post to make it work.
I’ve been watching many of your videos… Excellent work I had the black pocket 4K found it difficult to move around with. Do you have any suggestions for a more hybrid (mobile)camera that has similar or pleasant video ?ty
Hello, hanks for the vid! I just ordered this camera! I have 1 sigma lenses that’s compatible with the adapter you mentioned… but I also have a set of DZO Vespucci lenses. Can you please let me know if this adapter will work with the DZO lenses. If not, do you have any recommendations? My wife and I went to Arles 2 years ago so I really enjoyed your video over there! We recognized many areas!
great review and this seems like a great camera! I hope a mk II version can include internal NDs, and I know this is a long shot, but I use the S5II and a big part of that is that it has anamorphic stabilization, which I don't think anyone but lumix has yet... Might not be a deal breaker but it's one of the features that keeps me with the lumix system lol Also I'd like a box-style form factor but that's not too big of a deal. Great shots!
@@OfTwoLands I completely forgot about the option of also using the gyro stabilization with anamorphic lenses on these cameras 😲 I know you use Final Cut more but with Resolve Studio that could be a solution to the lack of anamorphic stabilization 👏
You mentioned you didn't see the banding in the blue sky on the monitor, not sure if it's youtube, but the banding is clearly visible in the clip you played (on a color calibrated oled screen).
Hey, great video! Regarding low light - you mentioned that you get slightly more noise than with the 6K pro - I wonder how this is possible, since i thought one of the main advantages of full frame is more light coming in and less noise? Thanks
Is manual focus as comfortable on Sigma L lens as your EF lens? what about the hard stop, is it difficult without it? What about auto-focus of that L lens on static scene? Is it manageable? Etc… please review your L lens experience on BMCC6K.
@@OfTwoLands Since there is no hard stop on manual focus ring on the Sigma L lens, does that make it inconvenient when used with follow focus? What about using A/B stops?
This camera with my set of FD converted to EF lenses would be a blast! Do you think upgrading from a BMCC4k to this is worth? Im using mostly EF lenses thru a Metabones XL 0.64 adapter.
Interesting, from testing we definitely see more dynamic latitude and better color from our 12k compared to the ff 6k which still looks a bit rubbery and video like
Awesome, I can't wait to pick mine up. I have a question. I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying that this camera has less dynamic range than the previous pocket cams. Is this true from your experience? I would think It has the same or maybe a little more.
I absolutely love your videos, man! A quick question though: can you use Canon lenses with IS on the bmcc6k? I'm considering buying the camera but I need to know if I can use the IS on my 16-35, 24-105 and 70-200. Cheers!
Top review! Can I ask a question? I will make a short movie this summer. I love the image of the Alexa Mini, but it's expensive. The only option I think is to shoot on a BMPCC. Is this a big difference betwee the two? Can you make Davincie gradings that they both look simular? Thanks for replying! (or is the c70 the better option to make a short?).
I have never used the Alexa so I can't really comment on it. I can just that the BM punches well above its weight when it comes to image quality! Having owned multiple canon cameras I would always pick BM for short narrative content.
You can use the Panasonic gh7 with arrilogc3, to get a cheap camera nearest to an alexa. It is commonly used as a b cam to arri and m4/3 has great lens options
Great video, as always! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience! I have a slightly unrelated question though. You've mentioned that you use Canon EF 16-35 F4 IS lens with you BMPCC 6K PRO in your previous videos. I recently tried the same combo and my handheld footage is very unstable. There's a lot of micro jitters that I can't get rid of. When I tried the BMPCC 6K PRO with my Canon EF-S 55-250, which is a relatively cheap and basic lens, my footage is quite stable and free of micro jitters even at 250. I don't know if I have faulty image stabilization on my copy of the EF 16-35 or if the IS on that lens is just not good enough. Thank you very much again and good luck with everything!
Thank you!! Yes I do use the 16-35 F4 IS on the Pro and I love it. I don't seem to get the same jitters as you mentioned but again I am used to shoot handheld with that combo and i also stabilise in post a lot. I made a video about shooting handheld so hopefully it helps a little :)
@@OfTwoLands Yes, but many people want different form factor. The BMMCC was Blackmagics box camera, and while they have released a new micro studio that is only vaguely like the pocket 4k, they did not released an update to the Micro Cinema Camera and deprived the Micro Studio Camera of the features that would have allowed it to fill both roles. So this begs the question, Why? The only logical reason I can think is that they wanted to make the new micro studio camera replacement more relevant. Imagine if they managed to make an L-mount box camera with a global shutter like they originally planed with the original micro cinema camera, gave it SDI and a slew of other features. It could literally be along the lines of an URSA in micro form. Anyhow it's just speculation and conjecture.
Great vid as always! Quick question: have you ever used any canon FD mount lenses on your 6K or 6K pro? Wondered if the vintage zeiss were perhaps the Fd mount. Wanting to use some of my film photography FD canon glass on my bmpcc6k pro but not sure where to fork out £150 on an adapter if it doesn’t actually work aswell as I think it will. As you are a pro with the bmpcc, wondered if this was something you had come across? Thanks mate!
Thank you!! Yes, I do have 2 FD lenses and I used them on the 6K Pro a few times but more so on the BMPCC4K. I think I got a cheap K&F or Fotodiox adapter. Since i have my Contax I haven't really used the FD for video. I use them for 35mm photography. Maybe this would help: ua-cam.com/video/FqxmpnQl-Wg/v-deo.htmlsi=KeBJ59bGEa6eGvH9
Hi Flo! Great presentation as always. I am beyond satisfied with my BMFF. Also as I mentioned before I hope you're able to get your hands on a set of @Dulens APO Mini primes. Great lenses! would be awesome if @dulensofficial could send you a set to review and see what you capture with that combination. Cheers!
I have two questions I hope you can answer. 1. Do you know if they’ve finally released any cages or rigging options for this camera? I was considering purchasing it when it was first released, but none of the major providers had released accessories for it yet. 2. I’m torn between getting this camera or the ursa mini 12k. If size weren’t an issue, which camera of these two would you prefer?
There is Cage from Tilta actually. Since January. Also there was Mid49 from the begining. And also there is Universal rig from PD Movie, mate. And actually the SmallRig cage from 6k Pro fits normal
@@TonyInEstonia thank you! I own both the 6k and 6k pro, but was hearing conflicting reports that people’s cages that they already own weren’t fitting quite right with the new full frame.
@@bluebirdvideography4239 not sure about pocket 6k. But cage from 6k pro fits really OK. Actually even Flo uses it. Great vid , watched it several times 👊🏽 I’m in the market with a budget for a Mac air or pro that will help me edit 6k , braw , pro res or open gate for my BMPCC 6k pro,Please help … what Mac laptop do you recommend on a budget ?
Thanks so much!! I always recommend the MacBook Pro just to be safe. As long as you have at least M1 Pro or M2 and more than 24Gb of ram you should be fine :). Always get at least 500GB of disk space for faster speeds.
I want to use the meike drop in nd for EF to L. Could the sigma 24-70 EF be a viable option over the 24-70 L mount, or will it be worst image quality and have vignetting on this camera?
Hi, Thanks for your review Could you elaborate on your experience with the 24 105 Panasonic, I use the lens with S5 and was considering this new blackmagic as a second cam because of the possibility the share the same lens set. Thank you
@@OfTwoLands thanks again for your answers. I guess it's linked to the fact that's it's focus by wire.. hopefully it could be improved by a software update, but I won't hold my breath. I don't see Panasonic or blackmagic working on this specific combination.😅
All Lumix S Line lenses have fly by wire Manual focus so not a mechanical one but electronical and till today you can't choose with Blackmagic FF the length of it like in the S Line body's of Panasonic . It is why no S Line lens will work correctly with the new blackmagic. They need to implement this feature ...imho
This camera didnt get hate because it is not capable , it got hate because we want a box design and for years people are BEGGING FOR a komodo style blackmagic camera and no , people could go with the komodo but they seem to like the blackmagic image more, so much so that the community created MULTIPLE modifications to make the pocket lineup boxy . The reason for the hate was not that the camera is shit, the reason was because the camera is great but they didnt listen for years.
This! So much! I'm a long time BM fan and owner... Their colour science and workflow is so nice, their first cam even had a nicer boxy format (albeit the battery limitations)... It's so frustrating having to work with this horrible DSLR form factor still :(
@@SoerenM Before the komodo I had the A7Siii ( still my B cam ) , it was absolutely horrible to rig for a bigger setup , I spent more money on legoing the camera to get around the shitty shape when i tried to rig it than buying a komodo .

I your exeprience , did you feel that wokring handled the gyro stabilization worked for you ? I see that you use stabilized lens also , so tell , me did you have a problem with the micro shakes? thanks
I actually don't use gyro. I prefer to use IS lenses or stabilise in post and it works very well in my case :). Micro shakes with IS lenses a not a problem for me.
I think I will get my hands on one, especially for documentary shoots! I love the 6K FF already so I am keen to have a more 'riggable' body for bigger shoots :)

@@OfTwoLands I think they will make a 6k pro. In some guise though much the same here and adding some new stuff. Second card slot and nds and a new processor kinda like they did and the Komodo X came about
Zero experience shooting cinematic shots- no intention of commercial to start; pick one- BMCC6K or FX3? The whole color science debate is run through the ground and clearly shows it's not just a fixable curve in davinci. skin tones and shots are clearly softer and more film like on BM. Curious what people think.
Haven’t used the FX3 so for me I can only comment on the 6K. I think they actually don’t really compete, on paper at least. One has the emphasis on image, ease of use and codecs. The other has autofocus, ibis and frame rates.
"Open Gate" just means the entire sensor. I've shot open gate on the 6k Pro, it just has a different sensor area. But yes, the 3:2 is refreshing! I absolutely love the look from the 6k FF in 3:2 and its flexibility with other sensor capture modes. Heck, for a while I was running a APS-C EF lens and just shooting in 4k on the 6kFF and it looked great.
That's the comment I was searching for, if using ef sigma art lenses on the ff would be better than getting a g2. Then I can save up for some L mount glass and have more versatility overall and that sweet full frame. I think the olpf is one of the biggest benefits actually!
I haven't tried stabilizing the footage with gyro, I use a monopod usually if I want footage more stabile than I can manage handheld and just use the gyro set at 0 for rolling shutter when doing handheld and it works great for that. It pays off to practice holding a camera steady and not rely on digital tools all the time, just like with manual focus vs auto. Don't be afraid to let the training wheels go. You'll thank yourself later when you get good at it. Saves a lot of time and is a must for a lot of narrative film work for example.
This is my 6 months review of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K.
Do you have one and if not do you plan to get it?

Personally I don't need a square cam but one between the 6k FF and Ursa Mini would be awesome!
Full frame now are 3:2 ratio by photo tradition, as they mostly are for hybrid camera. Nothing stops manufacturer to go 4:3 or 16:9. Oh yes something stop them, it's bot them manufacturing the sensor most of the time :) so they buy the Sony cmos or whatever. Even sony full frame cine camera like fx9 use an hybrid sensor. It's 3:2 and use only the 16:9 part of it.

Thank you!!
Great video Flo. You've really tempted me. Eyeing the NISI Athenas. Always appreciate your honest take.
Thanks mate!! The Nisi do look amazing 😍
I was very attracted to the full frame especially to be able to have:
- no multiplier on the lens,
- more light
- more Bokeh.
Your first video with the camera made me smitten with open gate - as much as it's unaffordable for an amateur like myself, I _LOVE_ the look!
Me too!! That 3x2 open gate image is just 🤩😍
What a great finding your channel is. Im actually starting to prepro a documentary that im filming with the BMCC6K, and all your videos are amazingly accurate, with a lot of valuable info. Also, amazing cinematography and colour treatment!
Thanks so much for the positive feedback mate!!
Congrats!! And thank you for the support :)
I really want (and need) to film something with the Contax Zeiss haha. I’ve been dying to but I’ve been so busy 😅😭
Hopefully it’ll be soon!
Last time I was watching your opengate Alps one and my wife who has no clue about what is an image:
- ...
Haha this comment made my day!! Merci beaucoup!
And happy shooting if you are getting the camera :)

@@frankanore 😂 I bet this is the story of any married geek guy, the WAW, wife administration wall XD
Totally agree! Everyone and every job is different 🎥☺️
agree, open gate ff is something else. 16:9 aspect ratio already looks strangely for me lol
Haha yeah it’s hard to go back!!
Thanks for watching!! And yeah if they would release a global shutter cam it would make a lot of people happy :)
I like the way you're doing videos! thanks a lot for your content and your amazing footage. staying with Sony though for my personal needs I love to watch your channel. xoxo
Thanks for the kind words ☺️🙏
@@OfTwoLands merci à toi! I actually used the bmpcc 4k for a while, also because of your videos.. I loved the color science, the overall image quality and the freedom inside the camera menu, but the lack of autofocus and internal stabilization made me go back to Sony.
Sooooo I have now purchased BMCC6k.. awaiting delivery. Currently a Panasonic s5iix shooter and been looking at these since they came out. Great honest talk about it so thank you 😊😊.
Congrats and happy shooting :) !!
Yeah, nice camera and image, but I really like your SHOTS. Even just the family shots look great.
Thanks so much ☺️🙏
Very very much on the verge of getting it. Got the pocket 6K (first edition) right now. But no 50/60fps and no internal nd's is stopping me right now. But that sweet sweet fullframe... and battery life seems much better too.
Ah well. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!! The sensor alone is worth it but yes no NDs can be frustrating, depends what you value more.
Damn it. I thought I knew which camera was next and now this awesome review comes out and puts a spanner in the works..!
Ps my AC is pretty much sold on the 6k now from this video 🎉
Haha sorry not sorry mate!! About to watch your new video :)
Have you made a video about the dzo vespid retros? If not, can you? It’s one of the main sets I’ve been eyeing lately, and I’d love to know your thoughts.
About to actually haha, hopefully it’ll be out later this month or in early March ☺️
I watched your travel video and I really love your shots. You earn my subscribe.

I'd also love an sd card slot, similar to the 6k pro. 6k 12:1 wouldn't be a problem at all
That would be awesome for sure! All of my content is 12:1 actually ☺️
@@OfTwoLands Fantastic! 12:1 looks incredible....
Thank you for your thoughts, as always! Have you looked at the Angelbird cards? I’m using the 512 GB SE version, I have several, and they work flawlessly. Never used them on this camera, but in Canon, RED, and Fuji I’ve never had an issue 😉
Thanks for watching!! I do have one yes and it was the first one I used with the camera when I received it :)
Very good looking content. I agree it is not perfect but what you do get looks amazing.
Normal to daytime lighting it works great. Very low light shoots I have had some trouble in post but I am learning workflows on set and in post to make it work.

Might not be a deal breaker but it's one of the features that keeps me with the lumix system lol
Also I'd like a box-style form factor but that's not too big of a deal. Great shots!
Thank you!! Internal NDS would be amazing for sure! Very keen to see if and what they have in store for this year :)
@@OfTwoLands I completely forgot about the option of also using the gyro stabilization with anamorphic lenses on these cameras 😲 I know you use Final Cut more but with Resolve Studio that could be a solution to the lack of anamorphic stabilization 👏
S5iix + BM Video Assist for BRAW or this camera? Video Assist doesnt do Open Gate but you get a separate monitor.
You mentioned you didn't see the banding in the blue sky on the monitor, not sure if it's youtube, but the banding is clearly visible in the clip you played (on a color calibrated oled screen).
Would love to see a video with the Contax Zeiss lenses on! Have a lot myself and am planning on upgrading to the full frame thanks to your videos!
I do intend to use them so hopefully I will be able to create something soon :) Thanks for watching!!
Hey, great video!
Regarding low light - you mentioned that you get slightly more noise than with the 6K pro - I wonder how this is possible, since i thought one of the main advantages of full frame is more light coming in and less noise?
Thanks
Thank you!! Full frame lets more light in but that doesn't mean less or more noise I believe or not necessarily I guess.
Rolling shutter can be fixed using the gyro facility in Resolve. 😊
Is manual focus as comfortable on Sigma L lens as your EF lens? what about the hard stop, is it difficult without it?
What about auto-focus of that L lens on static scene? Is it manageable? Etc… please review your L lens experience on BMCC6K.
Yes manual is pretty decent! And I don't use auto focus but push auto is actually quick to lock in and a good starting point :)
Yes, I really think this is a great upgrade from the 4K. I love the 4K but this is so much more versatile and that sensor is insane :)
thanks@@OfTwoLands
Interesting, from testing we definitely see more dynamic latitude and better color from our 12k compared to the ff 6k which still looks a bit rubbery and video like
Awesome, I can't wait to pick mine up. I have a question. I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying that this camera has less dynamic range than the previous pocket cams. Is this true from your experience? I would think It has the same or maybe a little more.
To me it feels like the same as the 6K Pro or slightly better :)
@@OfTwoLandsPerfect, thank you!
Great video. One question. Does the camera have Full Frame 4k? Or only 6k full frame?
great video ! is there any l-mount lens with internal stabilisation? or would you then recommend a canon l lens with adapter?

I absolutely love your videos, man! A quick question though: can you use Canon lenses with IS on the bmcc6k? I'm considering buying the camera but I need to know if I can use the IS on my 16-35, 24-105 and 70-200. Cheers!
Thanks so much!! Yes, you can, I always do it :). The Sigma MC21 adapter is great for it.
It is commonly used as a b cam to arri and m4/3 has great lens options
idk.. im still glad i went with Z cam S6.. there's things I like about the BM.., but i wish you could have a bigger battery stock
I find vlocks work well.
@@OfTwoLands Thank you very much for your reply! I will rewatch that video and try again!
I'm hoping they make a replacement for the BMMCC, but bigger & using the L-mount. Then they could release S35 and FF
Well I think this is it haha! Looks pretty similar to the original BMCC, but bigger, with L Mount and you can shoot both FF and S35..

2. I’m torn between getting this camera or the ursa mini 12k. If size weren’t an issue, which camera of these two would you prefer?

@@OfTwoLands thanks again for your answers.
I guess it's linked to the fact that's it's focus by wire.. hopefully it could be improved by a software update, but I won't hold my breath. I don't see Panasonic or blackmagic working on this specific combination.😅
All Lumix S Line lenses have fly by wire Manual focus so not a mechanical one but electronical and till today you can't choose with Blackmagic FF the length of it like in the S Line body's of Panasonic .

Ursa Micro or Cinema Camera Pro. Or something totally new :)
@@OfTwoLands I think they will make a 6k pro. In some guise though much the same here and adding some new stuff. Second card slot and nds and a new processor kinda like they did and the Komodo X came about
I heard from other reviewers the Super 35 mode has better IQ than some of the other crops
Haven’t actually shot with it but yes it’s supposed to be pretty sweet!
Does the ir cut filter have to be replaced like in the 4k?
This is an OLPF one. The 4K doesn't have one.
Do you think it has better quality than fx6?
Haven’t used the FX6 enough so can’t tell!
Even better than Ursa Mini Pro 12k?
Yes! Full frame changes things between the two.
Yes, I meant Open Gate 3x2 :) Such a pleasing and versatile aspect!
That's the comment I was searching for, if using ef sigma art lenses on the ff would be better than getting a g2. Then I can save up for some L mount glass and have more versatility overall and that sweet full frame. I think the olpf is one of the biggest benefits actually!
But how does the low light noise compare to FX3
Haha I wouldn’t know 😅😂
Much worse
Maybe it has to be mentioned that currently the gyro stabilization isn´t working as correctly as on its predecessors.
I actually don’t use gyro, hence what I didn’t mention it ☺️. But yes, it is a good point to mention indeed. Thanks!
I so regret not taking advantage of the BMPCC6kFF sale...I am still hating myself!
It might come back! Still a great price and value even at the original price.
It is a good price, but I'm getting ready to be retired and am not looking at a profession...just fun learning! :)
