Fair point on pricing, but, bear in mind that just the rent on that unit would be in the region of £250k a year. Then rates (Mayfair rates), ultimately you're asking for trouble expecting a sit-down meal & Fish & Chips at anything under £30 a head in Mayfair. What I do think, is perhaps their take-away prices ought to be much cheaper - food for thought

The fish served at our local chip shop boasts a thickness double that and extends an additional half in length. However, its preparation seemed questionable, not cooked, as it appeared to have consumed a significant portion of the chips. Speaking of which, the chips themselves were so devoid of moisture, one might mistake them for having been baked in an oven.

Not even a tourist trap! You people have to remember this is in the most expensive area of the UK ! It’s not just some random place you go and have a lunch ! A tiny studio flat, basically a tiny room with a kitchen you could probably boil a kettle and make some toast and the smallest toilet and shower sold her for over £1,000,000 ! A parking spot sold for £2,000,000 ! You have properties worth 100’s of millions around it! One of the highest rents and rates in the uk ! What do people think? You will get the same prices as a joint in south london ? 😂 I personally wouldn’t go myself, only went there when company card was paying when working in that area ! But people who don’t know london have no clue what this area is ! Literally all around the chippy are houses of members or Arab ruling families who are worth billions, Russian, Europeans. The rich or the rich! It’s literally a different planet
@@stevemcgowen I wouldn’t argue that, in London it’s totally nuts, there is a certain dirty greasy spoon burger van, and because of its location and the Arab students that started living next to it, it went viral , you have Arabs pulling up with their chauffeurs in limos to get a dirty processed burger 🤣
Very expensive but if you enjoyed it as much as you said then it’s about the food. I did think though it looked so cramped, I don’t think I could have handled that. Did you enjoy it as much as the fish and chips on the park bench ? Great, honest review. Thank you
Can someone explain "Service Charge" please? Is this the "staff tip"? We don't have this cost here in Melbourne, not that I've come across anyway. DJ, I love your channel, and especially the videos when you walk around after and show the history in London. I lived there in 1980 for six months, loved the place.
If a restaurant starts putting chips, veg etc in little bowls you just know that they are shorting you. It fills a plate...with not much food. It's a scam.
I'm a tourist and will be visiting the Mayfair chippy and pay their outrageous prices simply because I want to eat really good fish&chips along with their tartar and curry sauces not forgetting the mushy peas. I don't have the opportunity to eat fish&chips whenever I feel like to yes, it will be expensive but hopefully most enjoyable! 😋😋😋
They do look nice here, and never eaten inside here but walked past it + a few of my friends have eaten inside- but have had stuff from here before via takeaway though so I got out the service charge aspect! That guy in the beige top looked like he had the right ump lol
Crazy price but always go for the meal. If the special was £14.50 including chips, mushy peas and curry sauce that doesn’t sound too bad in Mayfair. Maybe the fish would be smaller but in any restaurant you never go for individual items if you want value for money!!
You didn't need bread and butter if you already had potatoes. And the tea too. Even better just take the fish which has breading on it anyway and leave.
I've had bigger fish fingers! The chippy at the end of my road charges £6.40 for fish and chips a mushy peas/curry sauce. The fish is cooked to order and I've never finished a portion of chips, they're so big.
What you’re paying for is the “luxury” of eating in Mayfair and primarily covering the cost of the extortionate business rates. Sadly price not solely determined by cost of raw materials.
Looks like a tourist trap rip off

Definitely daylight robbery.
@user-pn5ii7sg6h you don't live on planet earth do you?

No tourist would find it - it is Mayfair rents are excessive, the fact it is busy with non tourists says it all.
The piece of fish looked small for the price, the portion of chips also meagre.

How is it a rip off? The price is on the menu, if you don't like it walk away. Nobody is forcing anyone to eat there.
Lol Fancy name fancy place! I would go out for a Burger 🍔 afterwards Darren! 😅😅 loved the days when you got the fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 in newspaper 📰 😋 😢 crikey very noisy indeed! 😢 too squishy for me too...too close to the next customer!
Another great food review Darren thankyou 😊 ❤🎉
Glad you enjoyed it
@DJsFoodTravels yes I did very enjoyable Darren!
Well if you eat in high end area like Mayfair then you have to pay high class prices
I'm more upset you made the tea too milky 🤣😅😊, seriously good review.
Wow. That price is scandalous and clearly a tourist trap.
I personally wouldn’t go myself, only went there when company card was paying when working in that area ! But people who don’t know london have no clue what this area is ! Literally all around the chippy are houses of members or Arab ruling families who are worth billions, Russian, Europeans. The rich or the rich! It’s literally a different planet
@@shsh-he5qg Exactly, very true - something has to give at the end of the day
There's a bakery in London which charges 20 quid for a cookie. A single, normal sized cookie.
@@shsh-he5qg It's an area where wealthy CCP and Ruzz oligarchs buy property to hide money from their governments. Most of the flats there are empty.
Thank you
Looked a small portion a few extra chips does not cost much.Lots of restraunt charge silly money for a cup of tea and bread and butter
Did you buy the trawler ?
Some Whitby eat in fish and chip places aren't that far off which is crazy as that is in the North, it is getting crazy.
I wouldnt call Whitby in the north of England.
@@pinkypunky2643 What would you call it, then?
Can someone explain "Service Charge" please? Is this the "staff tip"? We don't have this cost here in Melbourne, not that I've come across anyway. DJ, I love your channel, and especially the videos when you walk around after and show the history in London. I lived there in 1980 for six months, loved the place.
If a restaurant starts putting chips, veg etc in little bowls you just know that they are shorting you. It fills a plate...with not much food.
It's a scam.
I have had fish and chips in the fish cafe in Borough Market very expensive
Great channel .thank you for what you do 😊
So nice of you
Love that you replied. Thank you . Off the charts bro . Cheers 🍻
Very noisy indeed! There were it seemed some people in there wondering if you were filming it seems like!
They do look nice here, and never eaten inside here but walked past it + a few of my friends have eaten inside- but have had stuff from here before via takeaway though so I got out the service charge aspect!
That guy in the beige top looked like he had the right ump lol
Totally agree that the cost was outrageous. I could not have sat at that bar in such close proximity to others and felt the slightest bit comfortable.
When we was kids in the 50.s we had 2 local takeaways one an Eel n Pie shop 1 a Chippy..it was a treat and food to die for..😊
That's ridiculous, the most expensive chippy in the world 😆
Crazy price but always go for the meal.
Darren doing a review without a cuppa would be like attending an orgy without a French letter.
The robbing b----- Darren i will give that one a miss thanks paul
wow! that's crazy expensive!
Hiya DJ, I saw a recent review of Rock and Sole Plaice in WC2 near Covent Garden. Looks a much better Plaice.
No one....yet no one, can justify that amount of money for that.
I've had bigger fish fingers! The chippy at the end of my road charges £6.40 for fish and chips a mushy peas/curry sauce. The fish is cooked to order and I've never finished a portion of chips, they're so big.
Probably cooked in oil rather than the proper beef dripping
The best chip shops are easily in Scotland and nowhere near that crazy price Darren
On my list
What you’re paying for is the “luxury” of eating in Mayfair and primarily covering the cost of the extortionate business rates. Sadly price not solely determined by cost of raw materials.
