I’ll be damned, Thursday again! I hope you’re all having a great week and I’m incredibly grateful to see you back again for another video. Tonight’s episode of TCOB is probably one of my favourites of the year, so I hope you enjoy it just as much. Of course if you hate it, feel free to let rip in the comments ;) NB: For the international audience, I understand you may be confused that there’s a bowl of fried pieces of batter in the bottom left corner which remain uneaten. In Britain we call these ‘scraps’ which I understand might be lost in translation to those overseas. These do not have to be eaten as part of the challenge, I assume because they’re just loose bits of fried batter that accumulate in the fryers of most chippies. I hope that clears up any potential confusion.
I thought the same, best fish i have seen Beard eat, big and tasty looking, always makes me want Fish and Chips when i watch this............and i watch this regularly, great challenge
I used to live about 10 minutes away from this chippy as a kid, so this video brought back a lot of memories of going down there to get a chippy tea on a weekend. nice video! ❤
I wonder if it's actually 'easier' to do them more quickly? I figure if you take it slow then you might lose momentum, the food starts to get cold & 'settle' in the gut, then you get tired and can't finish?
Nothing better? I don't know, the look on that arrogant buggers face when Beard devoured the lot in half the time limit would have been the 'icing on the cake'.
18 quid for that amount of fish alone is a decent price. Actually looks like a decent chippy though, tiger bread etc. Don't think I've ever had or wanted beans with fish and chips though...
Beans go nicely actually. For me, peas go with roast dinners, and mushy peas (if anywhere) in omelettes. EDIT: 'Beans' is plural, not a mass noun, so I changed 'goes' to 'go'. That's what happens when I don't read my comments before clicking OK.
As an American from New England who grew up on sea food, but lived in London for 12 years, proper British fish and chips, with cod, with malt vinegar, with salt, with mushy peas … IS HEAVEN!
Finally, an American said it. People say British cuisine is horrible, but the actual things we eat taste very, very different in other places. For instance, beans on toast. It tastes great, it's a nice and easy staple for breakfast or lunch. However, the bread and baked beans in America/other places tastes completely different, and nothing like the same thing in the UK. I had baked beans in France once before and they were absolutely disgusting, I'd never dream of having those on their own, let alone with bread.
I'm curious how good the brits do it, because the american south, and midwest, have pretty dang amazing fish and chips. New england tends to have that corn flour crap for batter. Basically glorified Captain D's, which is fast food. Meh. The fish and chips in this, actually look closer to what we do in the south/midwest. And... as far as beans go, sorry, but the midwest US wins that. You haven't had beans until you've had bbq burnt end beans.
Seemed like great owners and staff. They were happy for you and had a laugh instead of some others I have seen you come across who practically want you out of their establishment. Food looked delicious. Great advert for Misterton Chippy.
£18 quid?! Down south that would cost £40 to £50 for that size fish, all the chips and sides! We don't even get fish anywhere near that size here in Sussex. I am officially gobsmacked. Well done Beardy.
In Boston USA, fish and chips costs $24 USdollars for about 1/8 the size of that dish. In the past 5 years, restaurant prices have doubled while my pay has gone down. maybe it's time to move and retire in the north of England.
@@TonyRedunzo There's a saying we have here, and that is "It's grim up north". But there's many really nice places there, just like all over the UK. The cost of living up there is cheaper, and especially housing. I've been to the US many times, about 20 holidays actually since 2001, and have visited about 10 different states, and I can agree that things have got very expensive there. Once upon a time, back in the 2000s to early 2010s, it was cheaper there compared to here, and we had a great time eating cheaply and bringing home lots of stuff that was cheaper there. But the last few times we've been 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 (twice each year), we've noticed it getting more expensive each time. @@killerking7374 is nzd = NZ / New Zealand because the fish'n chips there are really good & they use different fish like blue cod / snapper / sea salmon. In South Africa they use barracuda also very nice
@@nozyparkerYou can't use other fish....you gotta have massive cod from the North sea ...that's proper Fish& Chips

I've been watching your channel for a bit and before I started losing weight, most of your challenges just look like what my regular meals would do.
That fish you are eating would be just a evening snack. I'm not bragging, I'm just glad there's someone who can put it in perspective for me. Thanks.
Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoy your channel. You are the best and your sense of humor is refreshing.
What no one realizes is that Beard Meats Food only does these challenges for free tap water. xD

I love Yorkshire Humor. Its low key brutal but with the aim of bringing the best out of everyone on the brunt of it.
Nothing like the atmosphere of a good yorky pub with everyone on form.
This isn't Yorkshire.
I’m watching this lying in bed at 1am drooling at that fish!!! OMG IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!! Now all I want is some fried (batter dipped) fish!!!

I agree. I have some bluegill fillets from fish I caught 2 days ago and it's all I can muster to leave it and make it tomorrow for lunch. It's 10 pm.

Holy shit!! Those were some MASSIVE pieces of fish, an absolute ton of chips and sooo much sauce, gravy, peas and beans.. I honestly don't know how you did that, especially drinking all that water and not being sick. Legend!
He washes everything down with a liquid after chewing it lightly!! In competition they hardly chew at all!😧 Mommy said chew it or you will ruin your stomach and don’t wash it down!! Why is there a video cut after every bite??🤷🏻♀️ This behavior must be damaging to the body. The rules are you must not vomit during the challenge but you can afterwards!! You have about an hour to purge or you may get a intestinal blockage due to the sheer mass! He couldn’t do three or four a week without purging!! He probably eats healthy between challenges.
Lmao “look at me I cant doit and look at you, theres no way you can finish it”….these people dont know the power of the beard 😂😂😂
The platter looked small at first until you started lifting pieces of fish - then it looked huge! The fish looked superb, I'm from the states and not sure I'd be down for the chips and beans.
Chips and beans on its own is a delicacy over here. With bread and butter too.
The smug look of pride.......'Where did that bloke go that said I couldn't do it? ....... make sure you tell him'

Awesome! £18 a bargain even if not attempting the challenge. That fish looked bloody beautiful as well. Well Done Mr Beard! 👏
Can we just talk about the fact that he folded the bread in half WITH THE BUTTER ON THE OUTSIDE! What kind of madman does that😂.
This is an English grandma trick. Cut a loaf of bread, then spread lard on it - sprinkle with salt, then cut it into a slice and eat it the lard side down. Hits the tongue first.
@@briz1965That’s a good trick, but since he dipped it in sauce, I would have folded it so that the dry part is on the outside.
It allows for more soaking 😉

I had one at a restaurant called The Cedars in Evington, Leicestershire. 16oz of cod, I think they called it 'The Whale'. It was immense but I couldn't finish it all. I eat too slowly for that
I wouldn't want fish fillets that big, gotta get the fish to batter ratio right.
@@mitchellgardner2193 I totally agree with that. A good batter is at least 50% of the point

That fish looks superb. £18 for all that is an absolute bargain. I get so full too soon. I love the fish and can take or leave the chips. In future, I should just eat the fish first and then if I still have room, eat some chips. In Cornwall, our portions are tiny. They seem to get smaller and smaller every year and the prices just go up and up. I feel so hungry now and I've just had me lunch.
I’m pregnant and struggling with eating right now and watching your videos makes me sooo hungry lol I get overly confident and make myself a big meal and often have leftovers 😅 thank you mr beard

Fried cod is literally golden fried gold.
What a bargain! Also, I don't think I've seen many food challenges where the owners tell you that you can leave parts of it, I swear some places would have you clean the pattern off of the plate if it meant they stayed undefeated.
