The meaning behind this song is beautiful. The willingness to give up ones worldly desires, to give up ones comfort zone, ones whole world, for the sake of love.
"So if I could I'd wish it all away If I thought tomorrow would take you away You're, my peace of mind, my all, my center Just trying to hold on one more day" This hits so hard every time. This is hands down my favorite Tool song.
Hell yeah!!! One of my favorite Tool songs!! Next time, I highly highly recommend "Right In Two" from this same album. It's one of the best Tool songs ever made, and the lyrics are very impactful. I guarantee you will be blown away by "Right In Two", it's a fan favorite for a reason! Great reaction Aileen! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Must disagree. I've never really cared for Right in Two or Vicarious, and take this with a grain of salt because "bad Tool" is very rare, and is still better than 90% of the schlock out there. I've always found the poetry in Maynard lyrics on Right in Two and Vicarious to lack mystery and interpretation, which is unusual for Maynard but not unheard of. They're rather obvious in terms of their meaning. While other Tool does this, like Aenima and HWP, they make up for it with aggression, Wings for Marie has a personal emotional quality and interesting composition, and Rosetta Stoned is perhaps Tool's most bizarre composition. Right in Two and Vicarious are more nakedly political, and come off a tad preachy, if you ask me. Compared to Lateralus, Stinkfist, Third Eye, Schism, Pneuma, Jambi, or Disposition/Reflection/Triad, Right in Two is rather basic, especially lyrically, reminding me of the weaker tracks on Undertow, but without the angst and novelty. I'd suggest Rosetta Stoned off this. The story is very tongue in cheek and the music is a riot of styles.
Jambi is pneuma with the gloves and polish off, Right in Two is the apex of everything done right, best song with the best climax/resolution in their catalogue
David Botteril, who produced the Aenima album, had the best description of TOOL I've ever heard. "TOOL is a prog band, but in a completely different way. 99% of prog bands use the song to showcase their musicianship. TOOL uses their musicianship to showcase the song."
It blows my mind the bands Sylvia & David have produced for little to no recognition in this world. Yet you ask a person name a record producer? 9 times out of 10...Simon Cow🙄🤦
Oooo wow that is really good, I hadn't heard that one. Seen only a few interviews with David Bottrill in the past, know just a few other studio albums he produced previously. But what I could glean from those interviews, his thoughtful and analytical responses, his quiet calm ('zen' came to my mind*), but mostly the intangibles that all add up to we'll call an overall 'vibe', left me feeling like "Of course" those five guys worked, played and meshed so completely and brilliantly in the studio, processes resulting in masterworks, two of them. In whatever form it may take I hope in the future Tool and Bottrill seize the opportunity to collaborate again. (*Zen and the art of record producing?)
@@erikdavies2572 Couldn't agree more. I unequivocally love all of TOOL'S albums, but if you put a gun to my head and told me I could only listen to one of them for the rest of my life, it would be Aenima. That album is flawless.

Thought it started like any other heavy progressive rock then Maynard spoke...then the band just flowed on a journey, ups & downs, spins you round..makes connections that probably lay dormant...brilliant. Jambi was also the Genie on a tv show in the late 80’s early 90’s called Pee Wee’s playhouse and on of the riffs in this song sounds like his catch phrase “ Mecca lecca hi Mecca Hiney ho“
I once was in a bus listening to TOOL at night while the air conditioning was on. I was in Hawaii and listening to Lateralus for the first time. Best. Music. Experience. Ever! Nothing beats listening to TOOL in a cold dark space while the rain is falling outside.

So the song Forty Six & 2 decided to play on the radio for me, at 4:23pm on a Friday 14 years ago now. I was completely hyper focused on what was going on in front of me, rather then what was both in the front of my car, and on either side of it at the time. The very moment Tool's song came on, it forced me out of that mental zone right when I was about to get hit by a semi 16 wheeler truck that had run a red light on the left side of me. I was able to slam my foot down on the break pedal as the large truck came barreling right on through the 4 way intersection, a mere 2.5ft away from making impact with the nose of my Toyota. Sufficed to say...Forty Six & 2 saved my life that day. And I'd surely be dead 6 feet under as of right now if it hadn't of popped up on the radio station when it did.
When I was an exotic dancer I mainly danced to tool. I lovvvved dancing to this song! I love your reaction to this. Tool has been my favorite band since I was 13, and still is at 33. Next to Stevie Nicks that is!
This is simply amazing. From Adams’s shredding guitar, Justin’s heavy bass , of course Danny’s ball busting drums to Maynard’s vocals, absolutely incredible song. Excellent reaction! 🤘🤘

My favorite song from Tool is “Descending” because it has a bit of everything Tool has done over their career. It’s a masterpiece lyrically describing (in my opinion) the descent of society into “apathy”. That takes the first half and it has some great changes, pauses and keeps coming back to the same subtle bassline which seems to be the foundation of the song. After that, it’s Danny, Justin and Adam just throwing everything at you musically. The problem is to appreciate the song and it’s meaning, you have to listen to the studio version but to appreciate what they’re really doing, you have to watch the “Live” version (videos clipped together multiple sources).
Descending is my fave Tool song ever. I saw the band this past February and when I saw the outline of the pyramid forming, I knew what was coming. I cried like a baby. That song is a such a stunning, magnificent masterpiece 👏👏👏👏👏
Jambi as a title is also part of Tools great weird sense of humor. Jambi was a genie represented by a disembodied head in a box on Pee Wees Playhouse a kids show from the 90’s. Hence all the lyrics about wishes and whatnot. Adam’s TalkBox solo is so insane though. Made me all giddy inside the first time I heard it. Check out Right in Two some time off this album. Some of Maynard’s best lyrics.
I have a tattoo of lyrics from Right in Two: "Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift his eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here" Most profound lyric I've ever heard
The guitar solo is Adam Jones using a Talk Box which is an effect pedal that sends the sound of the guitar through a plastic tube into the players mouth and the guitarist manipulates their mouth to help create that sound. Adam said that he asked Joe Walsh, who famously used a Talk Box on his song "Rocky Mountain Way", for advice on how to use it properly. 🎸
I love this song so much, the ecstasy I feel when listening to it... The "Shine on forever" part brought me to tears 16 years ago and just brought me to tears yet again this very day. No band I've ever known has brought me such an intense level of ecstasy, much less coupled with such longevity and consistency throughout the decades.
I just binged all of your Tool and APC reactions and it is so refreshing to find someone who truly appreciates the brilliance and beauty that is Maynard and the rest of the members between these two bands. I would really love to see a reaction to APC's song "The Noose". It was my introduction to APC and one of my all time favorites. Id also love to see a reaction to the song H. by Tool which was my introduction to them.
I remember listening to this album for the first time on cd and having this song coming on after "Vicarious" and not knowing what to expect and it blowing my mind!
Jambi is a criminally underrated song and I love that it's a new favorite of yours (based on the thumbnail). For me there's an emotional aspect to it that just speaks truth. That being said, I think Jambi will only be your new favorite until your hear Pushit. The entire tone of the Aenima album is simply amazing, but Pushit is this slow burn that has an incredible crescendo of all aspects of the band, particularly Maynard. Maybe his most emotional vocals in a song not about Judith. Please, though, listen to the studio version first. Always. One of my favorite lines from Pushit: "Rest your trigger on my finger". While that won't explain the whole song, it is a good example of the content. Also, I think you'd really dig a band called Kyuss. Either Gardenia or Whitewater.
I love your reactions and knowing what I know about your musical tastes I knew you would love this song. And I'm so excited for you to listen to the song "H" by Tool. Enjoy!
Yeah, it’s brilliant how Adam Jones can take such simple things and reinvent, where he’s doing things no one has ever done. I’ve tried that technique, but it doesn’t feel natural and makes my finger go numb after a while.
There's a song from the Salival album called "Pushit". It's a live performance of an original song from their Ænima album. They took a pretty good song and made it absolutely magical. Definitely a must listen... Goosebumps guaranteed!!!
The studio version was already magical. If you're going to recommend a song to someone why wouldn't you recommend the version the artists spent literal months on perfecting?
@@tinygaucho4572 it's a preference I suppose... Some people like the planned version of a studio... others enjoy the jamming kind of spontaneous version of a live performance ... In the studio you can cut, paste, redo and reperform a song until it's perfect... On a live stage the band truly shows it's colors... it's one shot... no room for mistakes, no redos... and in this case they actually made the song even more magical than the original in my opinion... that's why I recommend that over the studio version...
@@konstantinospapakostas2217 Sure, I get that. But you are recommending that to someone who has only listened to a handful of Tool songs overall, and not Pushit at all. I doubt your initial experience with the song was the live version, but instead was the studio version. So when you did hear the live version you had something to compare and contrast with. Maybe I'm wrong, but most people heard the studio version first. My overall point, though, is that when recommending songs to reactioners it's important to remember that they haven't been listening to the band for decades like we have. It's not about recommending YOUR favorite song/version, but rather what we feel would be good introductions. For me, a live version should never be someone's first listen, but rather treated as something that can enhance your love of the song.
@@tinygaucho4572 I respectfully disagree. I believe that reactioners would need recommendations of songs that would evoke a reaction. Be that a studio or a live version of something. We're not here to flex on how many years we've been following a band. We're here to recommend songs that would make interesting and impactful reactions. Now as for me. I have heard the live version before listening to the studio version of PushIt. And that solidified (to me at least) that the live version is much better in a lot of respects. The unconventional spirit of the band, always trying to reinvent and better themselves, the intimacy between band and audience in a live setting, the stellar performance of Maynard (maybe one of the best performances if not THE best performance he's ever put out in my opinion... I'm willing to bet I'm not alone in that opinion) and last but certainly not least, the impeccable improvisational skills of the band... Things that are surely lacking on the studio version. Too each their own I suppose. But the point is that we are not recommending songs to reactioners to pull them into the tool rabbit hole... that comes by itself... We are recommending song that are more likely to get a reaction. That's the whole point of being a reactioner...
LOVE this song! It has several of the best Tool riffs (as do they all, really) and it always leaves me wanting more! I just don’t want that last note/scream to ever end! ❤️
Booya. Ty for doing Jambi. So much Tool to this song. Great reaction as usual. Still, The Patient is sooo going to send chills throughout. Please do it soon.
Jambi was also the name of the genie head in the box on pee wee's playhouse. Could have something to do with the wish it all away lines. I could be totally mistaken. Just an opinion.
Yet another wonderful reaction. They're always so enjoyable. Wonderful when someone gets it. 4 future suggestions from one of "those" Tool fans: Pushit, Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (2 part song, segue & song), Ticks & Leeches, and The Patient. Happy Halloween!
If you could describe Tool to someone new to them, you could say Tool is divine. The whole band, especially Maynard and Danny, seems like they have a bond with the creator that allows them to tap into such amazing feats of musical talent. How can anyone hate Tool (if these hates exist)?
Love this song live…it’s so powerful. Funny that the riff when originally brought to the group from Justin they thought it wasn’t gonna work, but they put in the work and turned it into a masterpiece
Found out about Tool through my older brother Levi who never lived with me cause of some reasons im not gonna make public but when I was growing up he would visit 1-2 times every year and when I was about 10 or so he showed me Tool. We rode around in his car and listened to 10,000 Days on CD and when I heard Jambi I was hooked. I'm turning 23 this year and I got a Tool tattoo last year and plan to get another. They had such an impact on my life and has always made me think about my brother who I rarely see now. I highly highly recommend that you listen to Right In Two as well.
Great video as usual!!! Such a great song. So many moments of build and drop in this one. I still find my breath catching and stopping in moments. I get drawn right in no matter how many times i hear it.
I wouldnt be able to do reaction videos, if I never heard TOOL before, and then heard anything from them... I would ruin any kind of true reaction by listening to everything I could find haha. Love your reactions by the way!
Jambi is a character form an old kids program called pee-wee's playhouse and the sorcerer was called Jambi and he used to say some chanting words that sound exatctly like the guitar does "meka leka hi make a hinie hoe. say it while Adam Jones plays the riff and it's just that rhythm
Jambi is no joke. It’s a fave among Tool fans for sure. Hearing it live years ago during the 10K days tour was one of the highlights of the show for me. Love this banger! So happy you’re reviewing it 🤘🤘🔥🔥
This album is majorly slept on. I remember the day this came out. I drove my car double the speed limit to get the CD. Still have the stupid case with the little lenses you looked through to see the DMT art.
I have a theory on this; this was tools most commercially successful album, fueled by the hype from lateralus, and because the vocal portion of the tool fanbase want the band to be their special "thing" and not a mainstream success they generally avoid even talking about this album. Even though there's an argument to made for it as the best album they released. Personally 10,000 days just barely edges out lateralus as my favorite tool album.
I remember being a teenager in the 90’s and getting just gut punched and blown away by Opiate. I was hopelessly hooked right there. 10,000 Days was the culmination of everything I love about Tool and stands alone as my favourite album from them.
3 different rhythms in each instrument...it's crazy, it disarms your whole skeleton, it hallucinates you in a syncopated way. Along with Rosetta Stoned, the best song from this band.
Thank you so much!! I’ve been patiently waiting for you to find this one. I’ll never get a chance to relive my first time hearing this song, but I can now relive it through you.
Oh man! One of my favorite Tool albums! I bought the special edition copy on release. The case with the stereoscopic lenses, and 3D imagery. Jambi is incredible! "The Pot" is also fahken incredible! You should check that one out too.
"Jambi" is the name of the Genie on Peewee's playhouse. Apparently when Justin was writing a rift, Adam described the tempo of the rift to Maynard as Jambi's catch phrase Mika Lika Hi, Mika Lika Hiny Ho. So Maynard wrote the song about Wishes. As in Art is in real Life, Maynard likes to write about himself. "All you know about me is what I sold you." ~HWAP. 10,000 days is heavily influenced about Maynard's Mother, Judith Marie. She was a paraplegic for most of Maynard's life (since he was 11, according to the song Jimmy (James and Jim are the same name interchangeably, so Maynard James/Jimmy Keenan). Maynard in this song is the Sultan sitting on top of his throne and success, tempting the Devil with his song, (Judith ~ APC). And he wishes now how he can take it all away, her pain and suffering all this time with declining health. She gave it all for him, lifted him up and turned him around, and she calls him her Benevolent Son/Sun (play on words). Jambi sits just before Wings pt 1 and pt 2.
"Mind fuck." Sister you nailed that right on the head. They are. The music transports you. The words smack you upside the head. And the whole thing becomes 50 years worth of meditation on the mountain. It's exhausting too. But like the good disciples we are, we keep coming back for more.
I feel like you would really enjoy The Mars Volta. One of the only bands that I'd put there musicianship in the same ranks as Tool. The lead singer has a crazy unique style and voice as well. 'The Widow' is one of my favorites.
Deftones - Passenger (ft. Maynard) would be a dope song to check out unless you’ve already heard it. The entire White Pony album by Deftones would be an awesome journey. But yeah if you feel like jumping into another rabbit hole, Deftones is life. Often referred to as sexmetal or Baby making metal! Chino is top tier and so is the rest of the band, especially Abe! His drumming is legendary. Love your channel! Keep up the good stuff!
Solid choice, I love this tune!! I'd recommend Invincible and/or Descending off of Fear Innoculum next! Two of my personal favorite Tool songs ever, especially Invincible (I am a retiring career soldier and it is so relevant to me!)
Yes more Tool!. Seen them live 4 times and are up there in my top 5 live acts. Id suggest a journey with tool as they are like fine wine aged with perfection from sober up to fear innoculum. Big love from Australia ✌🏾✌🏾

Jambi is a reference to the genie from Pee-wee's Playhouse, if I'm not mistaken. The bassist said the main guitar riff sounded like the phrase that summons Jambi.

I was watching how u adjusted ur head-bobbing to flow with the music and I was just like “you get it”
Jambi is a criminally underrated song and I love that it's a new favorite of yours (based on the thumbnail).
Enjoy!
Aaah, the unique double-string pull-off technique by Adam Jones at the intro... He never ceases to amaze 😊🤘As always, great reaction Aileen Senpai 🤘
@@tinygaucho4572 Because the live version is one of the most magical things you'll ever hear in your live
Every time she says "Jesus Maynard," I fall in love a little more with her... 🤘💙
Maynard would likely throw up in his mouth hearing that
I thought you abandoned Tool, it's been so long. Jinjer misses you also.
LOVE this song! It has several of the best Tool riffs (as do they all, really) and it always leaves me wanting more! I just don’t want that last note/scream to ever end! ❤️
Love to see you come back to some Tool. Such a great way to start my weekend.
Many thanks! Moar Please!
Yup, been awhile. Hope to hear more Tool with you.
✌️♥️
Booya. Ty for doing Jambi. So much Tool to this song. Great reaction as usual.
Still, The Patient is sooo going to send chills throughout.
Please do it soon.
Shiiine ON foreverrr shine on benevolent sun 🌞
Shine upon the broken, shine until the two become one...
Jambi was also the name of the genie head in the box on pee wee's playhouse. Could have something to do with the wish it all away lines. I could be totally mistaken. Just an opinion.
You got to listen/react to Tool "Descending"
Yet another wonderful reaction. They're always so enjoyable. Wonderful when someone gets it. 4 future suggestions from one of "those" Tool fans: Pushit, Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (2 part song, segue & song), Ticks & Leeches, and The Patient. Happy Halloween!
Yeeeeeeessss!!!!!
Back to Tool!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟saw them 3 times in concert and I'd see them a DOZEN more!!!
If you could describe Tool to someone new to them, you could say Tool is divine. The whole band, especially Maynard and Danny, seems like they have a bond with the creator that allows them to tap into such amazing feats of musical talent. How can anyone hate Tool (if these hates exist)?
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Bang on 👊
Others have requested "Pushit", I would like to request the live version from the Salival album.
Love this song live…it’s so powerful. Funny that the riff when originally brought to the group from Justin they thought it wasn’t gonna work, but they put in the work and turned it into a masterpiece
The talk box in the solo was cool
Found out about Tool through my older brother Levi who never lived with me cause of some reasons im not gonna make public but when I was growing up he would visit 1-2 times every year and when I was about 10 or so he showed me Tool. We rode around in his car and listened to 10,000 Days on CD and when I heard Jambi I was hooked. I'm turning 23 this year and I got a Tool tattoo last year and plan to get another. They had such an impact on my life and has always made me think about my brother who I rarely see now. I highly highly recommend that you listen to Right In Two as well.
Silence Legion save your poison!
Silence Legion stay OUT OF MY WAY!!
Rosetta Stoned off the same album Aileen...WHAT A BANGER!!!!!
When Justin drops the bottom out of that bass line right before the solo..... One of my favorite pieces of any song. Ever.
Jambi is no joke. It’s a fave among Tool fans for sure. Hearing it live years ago during the 10K days tour was one of the highlights of the show for me. Love this banger! So happy you’re reviewing it 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Hi Aileen. Vicarious ! 😉
Isn't it amazing how a song like this can carry you away. Thank you for the reaction.
I love your reactions. You get into the music so much! It is obvious that you really feel the music!
that guitar solo was done on a talk box, a device used by your mouth to control the sound of the guitar
"Jambi" was the name of the genie on Pee-Wee's Play House. The song's about granting wishes.
Hell yeah! Back to to TOOL! 👏🏼
'push it' and 'right in two' will always be my favorites.
Thank you so much!! I’ve been patiently waiting for you to find this one. I’ll never get a chance to relive my first time hearing this song, but I can now relive it through you.
This is probably my favorite Adam Jones performance!
Oh man! One of my favorite Tool albums! I bought the special edition copy on release. The case with the stereoscopic lenses, and 3D imagery. Jambi is incredible! "The Pot" is also fahken incredible! You should check that one out too.
On Lateralus is a three song trilogy that should be listened to back to back. Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. It's definitely mind blowing!
I knew you'd love this one. It's my favorite Tool song for sure although I love a lot of their music this is the one.
"Mind fuck." Sister you nailed that right on the head. They are. The music transports you. The words smack you upside the head. And the whole thing becomes 50 years worth of meditation on the mountain.
It's exhausting too. But like the good disciples we are, we keep coming back for more.
this was the first song i ever heard from tool, and it made me fall in love with them.
I feel like you would really enjoy The Mars Volta. One of the only bands that I'd put there musicianship in the same ranks as Tool. The lead singer has a crazy unique style and voice as well. 'The Widow' is one of my favorites.
Hell yeah back with Tool amazing song one of my faves for sure
Love Adam's pull-off technique in this song and Justin's bass tone is so great
Yes that’s what makes this song amazing!
I love this song it’s my favorite song from this album.
Easily and by far my favorite Tool song. Got me through some tough times.
"Siiiiilence Legion, stay OUT OF MY WAAAAAAAAAASAAAYYYY!!"
The melody with the Tribalistic drums is sooo intoxicating.
I just cannot get bored of TOOL
Welcome back to Tool! Need more!!!🥰🥰🥰
more coming this week I promise
Solid choice, I love this tune!! I'd recommend Invincible and/or Descending off of Fear Innoculum next! Two of my personal favorite Tool songs ever, especially Invincible (I am a retiring career soldier and it is so relevant to me!)
This guitar riff..omg ❤
Yes more Tool!. Seen them live 4 times and are up there in my top 5 live acts. Id suggest a journey with tool as they are like fine wine aged with perfection from sober up to fear innoculum. Big love from Australia ✌🏾✌🏾
Good to see you reactions to since Tool again. To see how their songwriting has evolved you should check out Descending and 7empest from their latest album. incredible songwriting and musicianship
Invincible is even better.
Tool is beyond everything
On a lighter note, Jambi was also a genie type character on "Pee-Wee's Playhouse"
Oh God, Aileen! I love you! You understand the Truth Maynard gives, it's good stuff! Super heavy, super good!
Jambi is a reference to the genie from Pee-wee's Playhouse, if I'm not mistaken.
The bassist said the main guitar riff sounded like the phrase that summons Jambi.
Yes! !!! I was waiting for this reaction!! This is one of the best song of TOOL in my opinion!
One of my favorites to play on guitar, just love the palm mutes and rythem.
For me is your “chug face” from 2:40 forward, most satisfying reaction to Tool
"Money doesn't buy happiness" ... but at least you can pick your own kind of misery.
