I just discovered this song about a week ago. I am a widower, I lost my wife a little over a year ago, so I can really relate to this song especially where he says “a chance to be alive and breathing”. I’ve spent many days in my grief just wanting to die and I literally burst into tears when I first heard that part because it helps me realize I still have a chance to try to enjoy life and make something of it where my late wife no longer has that…so it was tears of hope and grief at the same time…Beautiful song and great reaction video to it!

Wow, you really are a one-band man! I love Tool and they are my favourite band of all time. Pink Floyd and early Smashing Pumpkins (especially Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie, but Adore and Machina as well) are two of my other favourites. The Pumpkins fell off after Machina, but those five albums are still a revelation to me. Helmet, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Rage Against The Machine, and many other bands also fill my time, and that's only the hard-rock music. I've always said you can skim off the top 3% of any musical genre, and you can't go wrong. For instance, Aesop Rock is my favourite hip-hop artist, Tori Amos is my favourite female singer/pianist, and Calibre is my favourite D&B artist. Tool is my favourite band, but I couldn't imagine listening to them as 80% of my whole musical repertoire.
Tool’s music invokes feelings of loneliness, helplessness and even anger. But above all, it’s about bringing up feelings of the beauty of humanity. Within the rawness of truth on every song, the prevalent message is always positive. Never undermining what we are capable as individuals and as mankind. I don’t think there’s any other band that tells you “you are but a mere part of the universe and yet you are the most important”. It’s a perfect way to deal with negative feelings “I know the pieces fit cause I watch them fall away”
I have never heard people mention humanity so much recently until Monday night. And if you don't know what I'm talking about look into your black mirror. The Black Mirror is everything now.
I admire how intently you listen to and analyze music. There's no wrong or right, there's only what YOU take away from it and how YOU enjoy it. People like you are rare, and it's great to see such thoughtful positivity and emotional connection. Keep up the great work.

Pretty sure this was the first Tool song I heard. Parabola and a couple others were in a Guitar Hero game and the experience of not just hearing music like this, but experiencing it in the game, was nuts. Tool didn't like the idea of their songs being depicted as played by animated characters, so there was a special "venue" created for whenever you played their songs. It was a trippy, moving series of images and graphic designs similar to the cover art for this album. That, the fact I'm not very good at Guitar Hero, and the nature of Tool's longer, complex compositions made playing through all 3 songs in a row a test of my mind AND body.
This was on Guitar Hero? Damn, I just got new respect for the series, lol. You're right, I imagine it must've been very immersive that way. What a great way to introduce somebody to the band. Were you like, um, wtf was that? LOL

Maynard isn’t religious in terms of Catholicism or any other mainstream organized religion, but the dude is a whole other level of spiritual, a famous quote by Maynard is “If you don’t believe in magic, or some kind of spirituality, your art probably sucks.” Which is so true, he’s definitely a believer in some type of metaphysical realm, this album and countless interviews of him proves this
Absolutely two of the greatest rock/metal songs ever written....and I will go out on a limb and say. perhaps TooL's greatest message and Maynards finest lyrics......a Lyrical life blanket to cuddle up under....God I love this band and have for 30 years!
these two songs are the Magnum Opus for Tool imho. The philosophy within them is the literal foundation for everything before and after, without them the other philosophical points lose perspective
I love everything about these 2 songs, but in particular the lyrics: "We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion"...just awesome and soul saving. ~Be Blessed
Took a buddy of mine to their concert back in Feb. He’s an R&B singer, never really been introduced to metal. He still talks about the show to this day haha
Don't you just love the heavy, dark, and foreboding riffs near the end, conflated or butrist up against the mellifluous, gentle, and slightly hopeful guitar part at the end? Such phenomenal attention to detail! Especially what it does to summon complex emotions within us. Truly amazing!!!
You are deep kid. I’m 63 and have been a Tool fan for a long time. You are hitting the nail on the head dearie. Keep up the good work. I wish I could converse with you personally because you are my kind. Not to be though. I will still watch you from afar. Try listening to Velvet Green by Jethro Tull. It’s just great.
I had this one seated deep in my playlist for 1/2 marathons. All discomfort left my body and I always caught a second wind at feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion.
thank you for your reaction and reminding me of the first time I listened to these two songs. Your break down was beautiful. and the way Tool takes us on the rollercoaster of thought and emotion. Glad I found your channel.
HAHA, yes it is like that isn't it...? I have had that exact thought before. Even vocalized it. "Oh yeah this is my favorite!" and then I've said to the same friend "actually, this song is my favorite..................... on this album"
When he says "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember, we are eternal. All this pain is an illusion." reminds me of The Empire Strikes Back, when Yoda says "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." to Luke.
Your heart rate was steadily climbing upwards as you were talking about remembering an intense moment that would cause your heart rate to increase haha so cool the effect TOOL has on people 🤘🏻💙

I think my first encounter with this song was watching my son play Guitar Hero years ago. It was one of his favorites and we saw them in concert a couple of years ago. One of my favorite bands.

The transition between Parabol and Parabola is just pure bliss & goosebumps. My favorite part is always when Maynard screams Alive and holds it, it’s just sending me into euphoria
I've really been enjoying watching your reactions and seeing you fall in love with them one song at a time. Their entire catalogue is incredible, but Descending may have my favourite guitar work of Adam's, and Ticks and Leeches really showcases Danny and Maynard
Your commentary is an amazingly thoughtful and emotive summary! And improvised!? Beautiful…You deserve a million subscribers. Also an acting career…even though you’re so real 💯
That instrumental breakdown used to make me get that choked up pain in my throat when I was younger. I had no idea what the song was about and I didn’t even truly care back then but that break down always got me. This song came back years later when I was struggling with alcohol and my family. I read the lyrics as I listened to the song and when that part came, the break down, I broke down crying. I have that lyric tattooed on my body now.
That visceral, almost surreal feeling you described is why I like tool and other artists that write songs like this with meaningful lyrics. They have the ability to make you snap out of whatever you're currently thinking or stressing about and just focus on the present. I like the heart rate monitor, and it adds another layer to the reaction because if something is intense your heart can't lie about it. Not that you lie in your reactions. you know what I mean.
Your reaction videos are so good. You can hear the passion in your voice. You’re so articulate talking about different tracks. It’s a pleasure listening to your thoughts on different bands. 😃
I've only found your channel a few days ago, but I swear it's like you're in my head picking my favorite bands/songs for reactions, and it's awesome! And so far you've had nothing but very insightful thoughts, and very eloquently been able to voice them. So glad I found this channel, another great reaction! :D
How does tools sound manage to be so beautiful, intricate and delicate, while also being powerful, brutal and forceful?! I have never heard a more complete type of music
Tool songs are not really songs, they are journeys. They take you in a ride, with peaks and valleys, serenity and mayhem. You just gotta let go, trust them, and enjoy the journey. When I listen to Tool, I feel calm afterwards, I don't know how to explain it, it's like food for the soul. They are so amazing, at a total different level. There's Tool, and then the rest of the mortals. Lol
Everyone should film the raw response when they go from Parabol to Parabola with headphones on.... They have the volume absolutely JACKED for Parabol, and then the Parabola intro about decapitates you with decibels!
Amazing! The Holy Trinity should definitely be your next journal with Tool! Those 3 songs helped me through some crippling depression! I’m ever-thankful to Tool for helping me through it! Can’t wait for your reaction to them!
Your reactions to Tool are among my favourite, you get it. There's a dozen I could suggest doing next, but "Invincible" is a great track off their latest.
I just came across your channel a few day’s ago and I really enjoy your reactions plus the fact that you’re an influencer for Ghost is a plus. I’ve been using their products in the gym since they first came out. I would also like to recommend Vicarious and Right in two. Two beautiful songs that I think you’ll love from Tool. Thank you and keep them coming. Spiral Out 🤘
The fact you reacted to this one made my day, thank you Aileen :) First Tool song I ever heard, back in the day when I was going through some very dark times in my life. What can I say, I never fell back into those depths of depression ever again. I was already kinda spiritually inclined (whatever that means anymore), also with Dream Theater being my favorite band of all time I already knew some seriously complex music existed. This one changed everything though. This song just literally blows my mind. Most powerful reminder of the highest universal truth of oneness. There are like a million and a half teachings out there that try to tell you that pain is an illusion and how it's therefor wrong and painful and a prison to be human. And that's what we call spiritual escapism. This song does not do that! Pain is separation, that's what all pain is. It is an illusion, there is no separation. Your heart is my heart, literally. And yet that illusion of separation is what gives rise to life in the first place. Even though it is pain and determinism and ego and loneliness and all of those good things... no individual perspective would ever have been possible without it. Damn, I'd love to just sit down with you for a lifetime or two and talk about this kind of stuff. But for now, youtube's comment section it is! :)
Btw tool never does anything by coincidence, they make sure every single thing they play or sing has a meaning to it, the instruments and lyrics perfectly match the vibe and mood of every song, THE GREATEST BAND to ever exist, tool got me out of my darkest moment in life and cured me of depression and gave me a new will to live, Having a spiritual awakening with tool is one of the greatest things you’ll ever experience in your life 🌀
Yes I feel totally the same Hank … they have been part of my spiritual awakening for sure and when I do begin to feel depression coming on, I will immerse myself in their music and always feel better 😊🛠 🌀
One of my favorites. That drop transition is just immense. The first half is just gorgeous and then you get the heavy expansion on the previous theme. So so good.
During the part in the beginning where you commented on the beautiful guitar, there actually was no guitar. That’s some of the most incredible bass playing ever.
So, the 2 'tracks' were originally written together as 1 piece of music... There are a few other occasions that this happens in Tool's catalogue: * "Wings for Marie/10,000 Days" * "Lost Keys/Rosetta Stones" (Lipan Conjuring is part of the storyline) * "Disposition/Reflection/Triad" (Fans refer to this as the 'Holy Trinity'... was originally written as a 20+ minute composition) People ask why Tool does this. It's not the most sexy answer, but the only real 'criteria' they had with their record contract is they needed to have at least "10 original songs" for their albums. When they started composing longer and longer songs, they made a compromise with the label to index the longer songs into individual tracks (some of the reasoning behind their 'segues' as well)
Hey Aileen 🖤 !!! I am absolutely loving your Tool journey! I can't describe the sense of excitement I get to see you discovering, appreciating, and fully emersing yourself into the spiritual experience that is Tool. I wish I could go back in time and hear each song again for the first time like you are now! But the joy I get from witnessing how you fall in love with it is just as amazing 😁 Thank you for the great reactions and all the effort that goes into making them. This totally uplifted me once again when I was feeling super down! Thanks! Peace & Love ✌🏼❤️ from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 Rock On lady! 😌🤘🏻🖤

Spot on pretty lady! Tool is a state of mind, they can't be lumped up into any genre. Bands of they're own era and thereafter all stop and listened to the all mighty Tool. Simply put Tool is the best of the best in all phases of music. Tool for all!

Absolutely two of the greatest rock/metal songs ever written....and I will go out on a limb and say. perhaps TooL's greatest message and Maynards finest lyrics......a Lyrical life blanket to cuddle up under....God I love this band and have for 30 years!
told ya so......
yep been down since opiate back in what was it '92. best band in the world!
these two songs are the Magnum Opus for Tool imho. The philosophy within them is the literal foundation for everything before and after, without them the other philosophical points lose perspective
I love everything about these 2 songs, but in particular the lyrics: "We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion"...just awesome and soul saving. ~Be Blessed
I've seen Tool in concert 3 times and I'd go a DOZEN more time. Once in a generational talent!!!
20 years on n i still get chills listening to this song;]
My favorite and possibly your new favorite tool song, 👌🏼 your gonna jam out
The song doesnt want to let you go...it like clings to the fibers and its like slowly slipping away leaving you with your own reflection
This will be absolutely amazing! Parabol/Parabola are one of the best companion pieces ever. 🖤
The sounds these guys make with their weapons is difficult to comprehend. I can truly appreciate every band member in this group.
Excellent! This/these and Reflection are absolutely my favorite Tool arrangements.
This comment goes hard
The lyrics in this song is so damn amazing. This song together with Lateralus has best lyrics ever written.
Oh boy, can't wait! 🙌🏼👁🧘🏻♂️🌀
Mhhhhmmmmm this is what keeps me going, everyday!! All this pain is an illusion
thank you for your reaction and reminding me of the first time I listened to these two songs. Your break down was beautiful. and the way Tool takes us on the rollercoaster of thought and emotion. Glad I found your channel.
Every Tool song will end up being the next favorite. Lmao.
Yessss! Love your TOOL/APC reactions
This is my favorite band and song OF ALL TIME!!!
These 2 songs bleeding in to 1 Is an experience. True musical masterpiece.
The transition between Parabol and Parabola was a must!!! Thank you for not pausing!!!!
Its about time lol, one of the greatest songs ever made!
Your heart rate was steadily climbing upwards as you were talking about remembering an intense moment that would cause your heart rate to increase haha so cool the effect TOOL has on people 🤘🏻💙
Long time Tool fan here and new subscriber! First of all not only are you beautiful but you are very intelligent and perceptive in how you break down the songs. I look forward to binge watching all your Tool videos.
Wow, thank you!
I just KNOW you felt this song bc your face matches mine every single time I listen to this song. It's such a beautiful ugh there's just no words to describe these two songs
Maynard screaming ALIVE in this song gets me every time.
TOOL, everytime I listen to there music I get goosebumps all over my body. Absolutely beautiful, there music IS LIFE. When I'm listening to there music it pumps through my blood as if it's being I.V. feeding
Lateralus is THE MASTERPIECE that can never be match
It has been a treat to see your journey to becoming a TOOL fan. Thank you for sharing!
I think my first encounter with this song was watching my son play Guitar Hero years ago. It was one of his favorites and we saw them in concert a couple of years ago. One of my favorite bands.
After watching a bunch of your reactions, and this one in particular, I have a feeling Descending will resonate well with you. Hope to witness you experience that one soon!
Thanks for making great reactions, I enjoy how you express your thoughts and feelings that the music and lyrics invoke in you, keep it up! Looking forward to more
Well here we are Like one Big Happy Family listening to Some "Tool" Logic... I have Seen "Tool" 8 times Live in Concert & I Feel Very Fortunate to have Done so... Fortunately Medical Staff was able to Bring me Back around & then 7 days later in Surgery on the Operating table I watched myself Die for the Second time & it was the Coolest Calmest most Incredibly Heart Warming Expirience of my Life... it was like I sat down in Most Comfortable Recliner & Just Watch 3 Male Surgeons in Blue Scrubs & 4 Amazing Nurses in Purple Scrubs Scramble like Ants below me Struggling Passionately to Save my Life while I Listened to the Heart Monitor Flatline & I Honestly did not Realize the Danger i was In & whole time Never Felt like I was in Danger or in pain... Really did not understand the Severity of Reality until I woke up 91 days later from a Coma & This Song was Playing in the ER whn I Woke up after Major Back Surgery 91 days later this Song we just Listened to was Playing .. For 90 Nights & 91 days my Girlfriend had Played "Tool" Non Stop and This Song was The first Thing I heard whn I came out of My Coma... I stayed in Contact wth medical staff & 2 years Later in life after Healing & getting back on my Feet I was Firtunate to Take 24 Doctors, Surgeons & Nurses to a "Tool" Concert after listening to "Tool" for 91 days while I was in A Coma I felt it was fitting to Share the Wisdom & Enlighten them All, much Love & Respect to them All..
The most beautiful reaction content creator on the internet! Keep up the amazing work Aileen!!!
The transition between Parabol and Parabola is just pure bliss & goosebumps. My favorite part is always when Maynard screams Alive and holds it, it’s just sending me into euphoria
Tool certainly has a way to illicit emotion. The entire album of Lateralus is nothing short of the grandest masterpiece of our lifetime.
I am really enjoying watching reactors finding Tool (& this record specifically) for the first time. Lateralus was such an amazing release.
I've really been enjoying watching your reactions and seeing you fall in love with them one song at a time.
Their entire catalogue is incredible, but Descending may have my favourite guitar work of Adam's, and Ticks and Leeches really showcases Danny and Maynard
Adding the heartbeat is telling in many ways, i wish you healing capabilities in the future.
She looks emotional in all her thumbnails 😆
I loved your reaction to this song which means so much to me. You seem like a very smart young lady.
Your commentary is an amazingly thoughtful and emotive summary! And improvised!? Beautiful…You deserve a million subscribers. Also an acting career…even though you’re so real 💯
I'm glad you finally decided to give this masterpiece a shot; this is going to be a good one.
Thank you for your insight and this reaction video.
Love to see tool reactions. Just was on a concert, blew my mind away like pretty much every tool song. :D
Manard wrote this song for his wife who was enduring chemo for cancer. Fortunately she's still alive & breathing.
I loved this!! I needed this today, thank you. By far my favorite reaction !
Your reaction videos are so good. You can hear the passion in your voice. You’re so articulate talking about different tracks. It’s a pleasure listening to your thoughts on different bands. 😃
I'm ready!
My dad introduced me to Floyd, I introduced my dad to Tool, Prog rock is amazing 🤘🤘
MORE TOOL PLEASE , you have so much to listen to yet, i can't even know where to start
Spiral Out 🤘
Yussss!! Right In Two - for sure!!
The fact you reacted to this one made my day, thank you Aileen :)
First Tool song I ever heard, back in the day when I was going through some very dark times in my life.
As a TOOL fan myself this is the most TOOL fan comment possible, much love
One of my favorites. That drop transition is just immense. The first half is just gorgeous and then you get the heavy expansion on the previous theme. So so good.
During the part in the beginning where you commented on the beautiful guitar, there actually was no guitar. That’s some of the most incredible bass playing ever.
Looking forward to this. Such an awesome sonic experience that always feels fresh.
So, the 2 'tracks' were originally written together as 1 piece of music...
There are a few other occasions that this happens in Tool's catalogue:
* "Wings for Marie/10,000 Days"
* "Lost Keys/Rosetta Stones" (Lipan Conjuring is part of the storyline)
* "Disposition/Reflection/Triad" (Fans refer to this as the 'Holy Trinity'... was originally written as a 20+ minute composition)
People ask why Tool does this. It's not the most sexy answer, but the only real 'criteria' they had with their record contract is they needed to have at least "10 original songs" for their albums. When they started composing longer and longer songs, they made a compromise with the label to index the longer songs into individual tracks (some of the reasoning behind their 'segues' as well)
Love the way you actually trying to understand the songs.
Beautiful Music
Great reaction, I love when people first hear Tool and "get it".
This has been my favorite since it came out I don't think that'll ever change beautiful therapeutic song❤❤❤❤❤
It is absolutely amazing to see some FEEL and Understand the music. Music is so powerful and you don't waste time without feeling pretty amazing
Tool is an experience.
Congrats on 50K. Hope you the best on your rocking success!!!
But the joy I get from witnessing how you fall in love with it is just as amazing 😁
Thank you for the great reactions and all the effort that goes into making them. This totally uplifted me once again when I was feeling super down! Thanks!
Peace & Love ✌🏼❤️ from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 Rock On lady! 😌🤘🏻🖤
you can also add: Disposition and Reflection for your yoga session. Both songs are from TOOL and they are both part of a 3 part piece, the third being Triad. I actually have a playlist for TOOL (mjk actually cus I use APC and Puscifer) just for relaxation heh
I’m not the only one who uses those two tracks as a meditative state!
"Watch the weather change"
And "Intension"!
O.M.F.G!!!! Haha as the release doesn't cooperate with work I won't be able to be there, but I will be ready to watch this after can't wait.
Spot on pretty lady! Tool is a state of mind, they can't be lumped up into any genre. Bands of they're own era and thereafter all stop and listened to the all mighty Tool. Simply put Tool is the best of the best in all phases of music. Tool for all!
Great reaction and analysis of Tool. This band makes you think and feel.... never gets old.
The official video for this song is amazing, it is worth it for the added visual cues and context. Thank you for letting us join you on your journey!
I knew it Senpai i knew it. You are like me, worrying about so many things even though when i look at it im doing good. I went on anti depressants/anti anxiety meds for 3 years and i threw them away and said fck that its not natural. And here i am now feeling better than ever with little worries in my life now. Being human is a struggle though, whether thats internally or struggling in the wider world. Stay strong lass, love from England.
