Y’know, I don’t remember a point in the Lord of the Rings where Gandalf tries to murder Frodo because he foresaw Frodo claiming the One Ring for himself.
I think he was too worried about the going full Gollum over the ring himself to think about killing someone that had a better chance of doing the job... Now I have an image of Gandalf chilling in a cave chanting 'precious' while wearing nothing but a loincloth. Excuse me while I bleach my brain.
What if Rose was the mole this whole time? They go to Canto Bite and releasing the animals is actually because she needed to get people supplying resistance equipment to despise them. Then on Salt planet she rams Finn to stop him so resistance will die. Rose does everything in her power to destroy the resistance.
I love how these early efaps contain so many genius predictions of TROS that they all thought were examples of absurd places no sane person would think of

I'm something of a Jonathan McIntosh historian and to truly understand the man, you need to understand his unconventional upbringing. His parents were hippies who practiced a wacky educational process known as "unschooling". "Unschooling" involves keeping your children at home and allowing them to do whatever the hell they want in the belief that children have a natural inclination towards learning and an inherent desire to seek out knowledge. Now this may shock you but it doesn't actually work and not attending school left Jonathan unprepared for the world, not only educationally, but socially, having never learned to interact with boys his own age or to form male friendships. Then one fateful day, his parents separated. It turned out that his mother had never really been that into their kooky hippy lifestyle and she went off and married a wealthy conservative man from a military family. McIntosh's father left for the Far East (where he remains to this day, doing Yoga and Raiki and wearing beads). Anyway, Johnathan's stepdad didn't approve of all that hippie nonsense and he forced Johnny to leave the house and go to college and so, well into his late teens, Jonathan McIntosh was thrust into the harsh reality of the real world. For the first time in his life, Jonathan had to interact with other men who didn't cater to his every whim and his lack of childhood socialization left him scared and confused. Then 9/11 happened and as chance would have it, McIntosh was in New York (there is actually a photo of him pointing at the towers as they burned). Jonathan was shocked and desperately needed to understand how this had happened and so he began reading about politics. In his search for answers, he stumbled upon the works of Bell Hooks and had a life-changing epiphany: "It's not me that's wrong... It's every other man on the planet." And so his mission to end masculinity began. And that's how McIntosh became the man we know today. A sad and pitiable individual who would rather spend a lifetime analyzing the other 3.5 Billion men on Earth than engage in a few moments of self-reflection.
Captain Privilege I never heard of him until 5 days ago- and even then, I didn't notice his name until yesterday. My dad had to work security the day after those towers went down, about 5 city blocks away. He had to were a mask to get through the ash and he was 61 years old and had to travel back to Long Island. Granted, he was an NYC Police Lieutenant prior, but he never came home crying like a bitch

I love coming back to old EFAPs and seeing all the jokes that end up coming true Like the Boba Fett project being completely terrible Or Palpatine somehow returning Though it's amazing how wrong Wolf was about Henry Cavill as Geralt. Best thing of that series
John's weird rant about how self sacrifice not being heroic and having ties to toxic masculinity would probably hold more weight except in TLJ two women self sacrifice and the two scenes where they do was the most effective strategies the resistance had. That being when Rose's sister sacrificed herself and helped defeated the dreadnaught, and when admerial gender studies light speeds into the first order fleet. Also both of those women sacrificing themselves was shot in a way that showed how NOBLE it is to sacrifice yourself for a cuase and to save others. So Finn was following the example that women had shown him if anything.
Not only that, it reinforces the "it's okay when we do it" mentality that many ideologues often do. Poe being a hero was wrong until Holdo does it. Paige Tico's sacrifice was noble, but if Finn does it, it's stupid. Also, "not fighting what we hate, saving what we love..." Except Canto Bight was 40 minutes of Rose fighting what she hate.
Stripey Arse well I mean if they never refilled the coffee pot then they totally deserved it. I mean say what you will of the empire, you get coffee when you need it when you work for them.
+FullMetal Bat Context. Rose's sister sacrifices herself in service of Poe's assault on the dreadnought, AFTER Poe had written off the lives of everyone involved. Destroying the dreadnought did nothing to help them. Holdo's sacrifice was in service of a larger plan she had that had at least some forethought. She knew that even if they died, she'd bought them time. Finn's sacrifice, by comparison, if fuelled by a hatred of the First Order and a pure impulse to destroy them. It had no forethought and clearly wouldn't have accomplished anything. That's the reason Rose had her speech, to show that he needed to change his reasoning. I'm not even going to really pretend that your criticism is in good faith, because none of it is on this video. Smarten up.
Briandon Stark Finns’ sacrificed is fueled by the fact that it was literally the only possible way he could’ve thought of to keep the first order from slaughtering everyone. Holdo’s sacrifice was never part of her plan, but instead was a last minute reaction only after most of her crew got slaughtered and was far more blatantly fueled by a desire for revenge. You talk about good faith? Fuck if you hypocritical lying fuckwit, your excuses are transparent.
Listening to this in 2023 is hilarious and it hurts. Not getting Wolf’s videos on Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, and Witcher hurts. Mauler’s offhand joke about the Emperor coming back is bitterly funny. And the talk of the Obiwan and Boba Fett movies is just angering for what the fuck we got.
2:18:08 MauLer inadvertently predicts Palpatine being resurrected in Ep9. The funny thing is, his intentionally ridiculous example is pretty much exactly how JJ ended up playing it.
I love how Rose explains to Finn how bad the first order is. Did Rian Johnson see TFA? It basically explains that the first order abducted him as a child, brainwashed him and forced him to be a stormtrooper.
The funny thing is that McIntosh never realizes that the central figure of the ''Lucas saga'' was an emasculated man. At face value, Vader is a figure of towering masculinity. A person who excludes control through brutal force. But, in the end, it's revealed all of that was merely a shell for a sad broken man. And, not to mention, the PT revealed that Anakin was an insecure man who couldn't live without the women in his life. His mother and the love of his life. Most of all, it's possible that due to his injuries because of his duel on Mustafar doesn't even have a penis anymore or it is least literally damaged. So he's literally emasculated. So, all of this, feminist pandering wasn't ever really needed in Star Wars. Yes, it turns out that freaking George Lucas could do ''emasculation'' as a theme better than Rian Johnson.
The social justice defense of the last jedi is very odd to me, seeing that the movie relegates it's two minority characters to a completely useless D story where the accomplish a) setting 8 giant space donkeys free b) cause death of the majority of the resistance
And the third minority lead (Poe are Hispanic, I think) gets bitched out by two white women while DJ (Hispanic) betrays his employers. Also, the ASIAN woman causes a crash.
Well see, that's the thing, these people that jump to "you're just sexist" or "You're just racist" these people are the real bigots who at best don't realize that they're the very things they claim they're against, or at worst they know they're the bigots so they use projection to hide the fact they're just a bunch of evil motherf**kers. Also you could say that they are LITERALLY bigots, seeing as how the actual definition of "Bigot" is someone who is intolerant of others, and who's less tolerant of other people than sequel trilogy shills?

I'm glad they ripped into a "Pop Culture Detective" video, I've wanted to do that for so long but he heavily censors his comment section to avoid criticism.
@Don Barton I'm not sold on bots. But he does control his comments which creates an echo chamber of like minded people who can't handle dissenting opinion, so when they see it they react with vitriol. They also believe they're in the moral position; fighting against sexism, white supremacy, toxic masculinity, racism etc. Makes it real easy for them to demonize the opposition and shout at them.
When his video has a sub-standard like/dislike ratio, and yet there's not one wholly negative comment, I'm inclined to believe you. Also fuck you for making me read through that nauseating comment section to verify this.
I was wanting to see how retarded the channels other videos are. Is that true, he disable comments on his videos? If he did I imagine his like to dislike ratio is hidden as well, no?
I really appreciate Mauler for his attitude: He always tries to avoid ad-hominem-bullshit and doesn't make assumptions on someones opinion if that person hasn't clearly expressed it. I totally agree with everyone in the cast about The Last Jedi and love such "ranty"-discussions like the next one but many podcasts, where all members have the same position on the topic, often degenerate into a pretty messy circle jerk where actual arguments go by the board. Good job!
Alastir Crowe ofc, they have incredibly fragile egos. They believe that they are the right side of the “movie critique” community. There is no right side, something they don’t seem to realize.
I’m glad that we have Mr. Macintosh here to explain to me that I didn’t like the bad attempts at humor that completely undermine the tone of the film because I hate women and minorities. If I didn’t hate women and minorities then I would have been laughing out loud. If not for my bigotry, I would have been absolutely fine with the fact that all of the mysteries set up in TFW had no interesting payoff and weren’t replaced with any interesting hooks. I would have seen it as a stroke of genius. It’s only because I hate women that to me Rey appears to be a Mary Sue that has no interesting struggle to overcome and lacks a satisfying character arc.
I Blame the MCU movies for the current trend in action movies of adding humor in every god damn action scene. While this works for Tony Stark in Iron man because he uses his wit as a psychological shield, it more commonly siphons any semblance of suspense in the scene as why would an audience think any of the characters are in mortal danger if they are cracking jokes in the middle of a fucking fight?
@@joeldykman7591 It fits in a super hero movie, or in that kind of scenario because they're supposed to be jokey and snarky. It doesn't in the middle of a war framed as a serious confrontation where people are dying left and right. Hell, even the MCU knew when to shut down the jokes to have a moment of tension.
Jonathan McIntosh is not a fan of movies. The fact that he's saying all the things he said about male characters being vulnerable shows that he doesn't watch any films or that he doesn't pay attention when he does
Harley Barcenas I never heard of him until he posted that video 5 days ago. I told him his video was gonna get torn apart. He sounds like he is trying to be pretentious but he is too dumb to pull it off in a convincing way
Douglas Rosa I never heard that but it makes sense. My gaming days died with the Dreamcast (Motherfuck you, Sony- I remember how bad those first years of the PS2 were). I had a Commodore 64, so fuck anything that sounds like "Macintosh"
I really want a Space Balls 2 based on this movie now. We can have a great sequel then it becomes a disaster when Yogurt sells his franchise to a mega corporation. We need Brooks more than ever now. The comedy of errors theme is too good to not parody
About Henry Cavill being casted as Geralt, he actually played the games AND has read the books. So I'm sure he'll try to portray him as accurately as possible, as he's clearly passionate about the project. However, they are apparently looking to cast a non-white actor for Ciri. The Witcher being such a cultural icon in Poland where pretty much everyone has been white for such a long time, to cast a non-white actor for Ciri is just insane. Why do they not try to portray it as accurately as possible? Isn't this disrespectful to Polish culture? The Witcher is so iconic to Poland that their Prime Minister even gave Obama a copy of TW2 when he went there.
I'd love to see a polish person accuse them of "cultural appropriation" if they do cast Ciri like that. I hate the term but I'd like to see their defense.
Well, that was actually just a rumour based on a leaked casting script that may or may not be real. I think someone has come out on Twitter and said that they are looking for a Polish actress; that particular term that was on the script basically said, "[…] or other ethnic minority" and someone of the Polish ethnic group technically falls under that category.
Criticism of the Last Jedi need not extend beyond the most basic to condemn it. It's a tonally-and thematically-deaf film. Like the story was randomly thrown together ad hoc.
Ever heard of the "final girl" in horror movies like Friday the 13th? The whole slasher genre is based on women destroying villains. Kinda bizarre the amount of shit Holdo is talking about an officer that is at worst two ranks below her. Any military structure I've been a part of has heavily frowned upon shit talk between higher officers ESPECIALLY in front of subordinates
Has everyone forgotten Teminator? In where someone who was being chased by a killing machine had to be protected by a guy and she had to learn how to protect herself because he knew he couldn't keep it up forever because of how outmatched *they* were. She practically turns into a ridiculous psycho vigilante in the second film and no one thought that was unreasonable due to what she went through. If anything I'd argue that Ripley holds herself together far better under trauma than what Sarah Connor went through. But sure, forget the fact that we had very great acted, written and directed female characters. Cause that's convenient for you people, isn't it?
Seriously, how do defenders of this movie have such a problem believing strong women existed before the last jedi? Because those films were more concerned about making good movies and characters over saying "strong women"? It's like Patrick Williams acting like nothing really deconstructed the Jedi order until the sequel trilogy when that's the ENTIRE POINT OF THE PREQUELS.
2:07:00 Male sacrifice is toxic.... After talking about the Holdo and Poe... Same Holdo who sacrificed herself??????? Would someone else tell me why the super rich wouldn't buy the best droids in the galaxy instead of using child slave labour.
thehopelesshelper or just standard droids. Or like... any droid that would be more cost effective than slaves. Which, by the way, is practically every droid made for that.
I’ve never understood why people like Finn’s “character arc” in the Last Jedi. They keep saying that he decided to stop running from the First Order and decided to fight against them, but that’s what happened at the end of the Force Awakens. He took the lightsaber and fought against Kylo Ren to protect Rey. Sure, he loses the fight but it’s the fact that he had the courage to stand up to Kylo Ren that matters. People are praising something they’ve already seen and it was done better in TFA. In TLJ he declares that he’s a part of the Resistance or the Rebels because of the line “Rebel Scum” but you didn’t need that. I feel like he could have just stayed with the Resistance, fought the First Order and his actions would make that declaration for him.
Feels weird that he stays with the Resistance despite learning that the arms dealers on Canto Bight that he apparently hated so much were not only trading with the Resistance but also allowed to operate while the Republic was in power. What was the point of DJ even bringing that up?
All TLJ defenders can do is praise things earlier movies already did. Like the deconstruction of the Jedi. Something already done, and far more subtle, in the prequels. Arguably that's the whole point of the prequels. But I guess they didn't understood because they showed, not told
I always saw his arc in tfa was saving only Rey and fighting for her, but in last Jedi he realized the resistance was more important and was willing to sacrifice himself for them instead. Horribly done but I like the idea.
The notion that Marvel took "cheap shortcuts" is hilarious to me. Yea guys the series that has been building up to this event for 10 years and over 18 films took some "cheap shortcuts" lmao
@Harry Willmore, you must be very unobservant. Most of the main heroes have changed over the course of several films. Screen time is probably what you're basing your assumption on.
The changes are all superficial though, in large part because the characters themselves are about as deep as a puddle. People want to make out like the Marvel movies are these great epics masterpieces full of deep characters and complex plots, but the truth is they're just fun action movies with above average writing. Not a bad thing, but a far cry from the best films/stories ever made.
Adam S Is Thor's sudden sense of humor a coping mechanism for all the people he's lost recently? What about Tony becoming more serious over time as he actually becomes close to people and realizes he now values all sorts of relationships? Dr Strange honing his ego into a force for good while Tony's ego whittles away. Captain America.... remaining Captain America but in doing that, he becomes more than just an ally or friend but a legend who stands fast even in the face of a being who may well be a god? The thing about puddles is they often reflect so if you think they're shallow it's only because you're not looking close enough. Complex plots, no... Civil War, shut up, you too Winter Soldier. And now the Guardians won't keep quiet and the Avengers movies are lining up... quick, pull up a DCEU movie to deflect! Martha! Interestingly, Steve Rogers is so simple and direct is that he makes every movie he's in more interesting and complex just by being there, remaining himself in the face of anything. They're fun action movies that have as much complexity as you're willing to accept. The difference is that Marvel characters rarely change that much in movies that aren't origin movies but when taken in series, you should be able to see... something. Character development? Some people prefer to think of it as character derailment or "Everyone's fun now!" Everyone acts the same as Peter Parker, Peter Quill and Tony Stark.... all characters who use humor in different ways for different reasons. Stick them all in the same scene and they quickly point out the manchild one.
Infinity War does take a shortcut by Thanos already having One Stone at the start. He would've had to decimate Xandar to get it which is a tall order. But it's not a big deal to me.
*Out of bravery , solidifying their manhood.* Bringing up Boromir is a great example by the chat. Boromir's sacrifice is one out of redemption , due to the fact that he was succuming to the power of the ring and when one remembers the pilot from Independance Day , you can find that same goal. Yes the pilot gave his life out of love for his children , but also as a act of redemption for himself , seeing as he was a lousy father. Giving his life to ensure the survival of his children is the most he can do in the situation he finds himself in. Solidifying his love for his children , not his manhood and certainly not bravery. I'm sorry , i have to ask. Is determined suicide an act of bravery or cowardice? Because sacrificing oneself like that is still "technically" suicide. And the pilot had allot of bagage with him , depicted by his alcoholism. Fynn's sacrifice would carry some weight with it. Like rebelling against the machine that made him. (the indoctrination the First Order put him through) , his revenge. The love for the cause of the Resistance. A nobel sacrifice. Or inwardly , the possible epiphany , that this might be the only way he could disconnect himself from the First Order entirely and never be haunted by their presence again. Then in comes Rose , whom takes all of that away with an act of selfishness. A inability to disconnect herself from the (never built up in the movie) love she feels for Fynn. The inability to understand that "the needs of the many , outway the needs of the few". "We win by saving what we love." Is her admission that she loves Fynn more then the Resistance. That she loves one man more then the cause she dedicated her life to and the people that are part of it. *And movies try to romanticise men going out in a blaze of glory.* Because it is visually stunning. That is what people say about Purple Hair going out in a blaze of godrays. So what's the point? Oh a woman can do it , but when a man does it , it is counted as a sin? So you find more meaning in the gender , then you do in the act and the meaning behind it? So Riply sacrificing herself in Alien 3 , in a molten blaze of glory , is what then? Well lemme tell ya. Its her last act to ensure that Xenomorphs will no longer trouble the human race for as far as she knows. Its a middle finger to the Weyland Yutani corporation , a act of hatred towards Xenomorphs and a act of love for the common person. *Luke was never depicted as a great Jedi Warrior.* Jedi warrior? I'm sorry , i don't know what to say. Windu , care to take a crack at this? "We are peacekeepers , not soldiers." Thank you Windu. One of the key pillars of Jedi philosophy is wisdom and the attaining of. Jedi have often been described more as mystics or monks then any form of soldier or warrior. They are a mixture of Mystic Knights , Religious leaders , Monks and philosofers. Calling them warriors is selling them short as they were never meant to serve in a war. The very fact that jedi were called to be generals in the army of the republic worried Yoda and it was further expanded in the clone wars as Jedi started turning into Dark Jedi because of it. The Mandalorian war , the rise of Revan , was a perfect example of how Jedi were not meant to fight , but to protect. As it had the same effect and caused another war to follow. Funny innit? How context is usually pushed to the side when driving a narrative. "You're watching movies wrong."
The Independence Day example is still really funny since Randy Quaid saves the day by flying into the alien ship's phallic laser weapon. He has to immasculate the aliens in order to win.
I love how they start arguing about wether it's been 1 hour or 2 hours at 2 hours 20 minutes in and the stream goes on for 5 hours 30 minutes... How time flies.

2:06:49...I want him to realize, THIS IS THE REASON LUKE SKYWALKER DIES, if not for this they may have found an exit before another bunker buster laser was placed, the Falcon would have shown up and Only finn, who is a hero for that action, would have died. Leia and Luke could have been reunited. And going back further if not for Holdo not holding out the info they'd have gotten to that planet with minimal casualties besides possibly holdo herself as one final distraction, because DJ wouldn't have over heard Finn and Rose talking to Poe, so he'd have no info to sell to them. It's literally because Rose can't park(Canto bight ), rose "saves" finn and Holdo doesn't tell Poe the plan that 3 of the dumbest plans in star wars occur causing hundreds of deaths.
Going back through classic EFAP episodes on the road to 200. I know I'm way late to the party, but in regards to Filmjoy, I have this to say: If you think something is inappropriate for your kids, don't let your kids consume it. If someone else thinks their kids can handle it, that's their assessment to make, not yours. Raise your own children as you see fit, but extend others the same courtesy.
You know the tactical cost of destroying that dreadnought at the start of the film is a meaningless lesson anyway because even if it did matter and those pilots/fighters survived the opening, they wouldn't have been able to do anything later anyway because the first thing Kylo Ren does when he attacks them is blow up their hangar bays, grounding all of their pilots. Edit: Kinda hilarious that Aliens comes up so often in this video and then at the end they end up dealing with a video from the writer of Colonial Marines.
Not only that, but if those bombers can't travel into through hyperspace, they'd need to dock in the hangar bay. Imagine what would've happened if Kylo fired a missile into the hangar bay with those things inside.
How TLJ defies expectations: People expected a good, well written film that continues what the previous one established (such as it was), and got The Last Jedi instead. Also Macintosh is just a purple haired, man hating feminist trapped in a man's body.
I wonder how Mikey felt about Guardians of the galaxy 2? Because Ego is a much worst parent/Father figure in that movie. At least Thanos regrets having to kill his adoptive daughter where as Ego killed hundreds of his own kids and was gonna kill Starlord. But I bet Mickey loved Gaurdians 2 because it had a bittersweet ending where the villain died.
Mikey hated Infinity War because in his eyes, Thanos winning makes it seem that he is justified and right about everything he does. Ego is worse, but he loses. Thanos winning is the important part, which he conveniently doesn't stress in his video.
I never realized how weird it actually is that Mcintosh just assumes the ideas of those that disagree with him on a movie. "They expected this/felt insulted by so and so" If TLJ was really any good, wouldn't he be talking about everything great within rather than assert random pejoratives about the haters? Don't know why I'm surprised he fronts a media review to hide his people review tho. He's always been associated with projects like that.
2:18:10 "I enjoyed in The Last Jedi when Winnie the Pooh teamed up with Donkey and Shrek to defeat the evil Emperor who came back for some reason." Considering the teaser for Episode 9, the Emperor coming back wasn't as farfetched as we thought.

The character Rose Tico acts like a stereotypical borderline disorder. Completely subject to her flipping emotions, and in a "I hate you, don't leave me" relationship with Finn.
Bad characters or bad portraits of characters in this film: Rey is a woman. Rey is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected. Holdo is a woman. Holdo is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected Leia is a woman. Leia is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected Just like Luke is a man. Luke is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected Poe is a man. Poe is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected Fin is a man. Fin is a terrible character. The two aren’t connected To say that you guys and myself don’t like the female characters because they are female I’d just insane and utter nonsense
Against my better judgement, I visited the "TLJ Defies Expectations" video. The comment section there doesn't have a SINGLE WORD of negativity in it. It's disgusting how thoroughly moderated and trimmed it so obviously is.
Non-powerful male lead: Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon. Boom. Done. He's, in fact, called Hiccup as part of a Viking cultural tradition to toughen him up. He's also made permanently disabled by the end of the first movie and is still the male lead in the subsequent sequels.
Maybe they never talk about the plan until it's revealed because they know it's a terrible plan so they didn't want to let the audience know that until it was too late. Cause in a good movie, there would be a scene with Leia and Holdo talking about the plan that would allow the audience to infer "oh this is why she's not telling Poe" or something to that effect
Not all movies do that though. Sometimes movies shouldn't have to outright tell the audience what is going on, especially if it (or the writers, at least) believes that the audience is smart enough to work out that 'maybe there's a reason why she's not telling him'. Considering that for the most part, at least as far as I know, our lenses into the world during this trilogy seem to be Poe, Rey, Kylo and Finn... If they don't know, then why should we? They're not high ranking officials in the resistance/rebellion/whatever-the-fuck-they-are (and so they aren't privy to important info like that), and neither are we. But that's just my personal belief when it comes to purposefully writing for non-omniscient (or whatever the word is for not-all-knowing) audiences. I find Poe to be a likeable enough character but while there are a lot of people out there that hold him above his station, I found his demotion (after the bomber scene) to be justified, and his apparent development into a more mature understanding of his actions beyond 'blow shit up because we can' to be well done.
@@KingHoborg Poe is a high rank. And as far as I know in TLJ the second highest rebel left as the rest got shat out the ship. And his development doesn't make any sense. Learning to follow orders no matter what isn't maturing that's indoctrination. Unless you mean he matured by learning that a suicide run to prolong the cause is bad. Instead he should go sit in his bunker and wait to die?
I've never looked at it like that. Instead of following orders no matter what, I saw it as a case of him considering the consequences of his actions BEFORE taking them. Leia and what's her face have different priorities and preferred a more cautious approach? I don't remember there being an original plan presented to the audience as an alternative to 'fuckit, let's blow shit up'. I personally believe that a suicide run that drags hundreds of people with you is a bad thing, even if it does 'prolong the cause' by removing one ship from the field, especially when you're already outnumbered. Granted, this is my opinion and the basis for my 'strategies' (if you can even call them that) are little better than 'this one movie I saw with this situation' or 'this is what I did in a similar situation in a video game once upon a time'. We all have differing opinions, especially in a situation like that was. Eh, it really seemed to me like he was middling, or barely above middling rank in the Rebellion/Revolution whatever. But I don't claim to be even moderately all-knowing concerning the new Star Wars stuff, so you're probably more right than I am.
@@KingHoborg Commander is a fairly high naval rank. With everyone getting spaced he's one of the highest they've got left. But the suicide run he says No to is the only option they have. It's ram the big gun or go sit in the bunker and wait to die. I'm really not sure how ram the big gun is the wrong option. I have no problem with hotshot successful pilot learns to take less risks or to look before he leaps, just like I have no problem with old hero is washed up or any other example from TLJ you'd like. But unfortunately they're all done incredibly poorly. They're so rushed and or forced. Rian Johnson doesn't even try and make them seen natural or logical just hops from scene to scene then gives you a resolution that doesn't match up with the previous scenes.
KingHoborg Problem is, if the Dreadnought had survived, it would have been able to take out the Rebel fleet right after the Hyperspace jump. So what Poe did saved everyone. As opposed to, say, what Holdo did, which got everyone killed. Particularly her tactic of sitting on the bridge of an empty ship watching all of the transports get blown up for a prolonged period, that's military thinking that makes Custer's Last Stand seem well-conceived.
Well, Jonathan Mcintosh acts like a self righteous douche bag and I'm glad he's getting called out on it. He doesn't even have the courage to defend his theses probably because even his argument is full of flaws. Can't ignore the plot holes. They suck the story down. Also he really doesn't like Poe. Check his twitter, he really bust his chops. Maybe because that character has more balls than he ever well. Holdo is the worst character in Star War and is a contender for the worst part of Last Jedi, yet Mcintoch defending her moronic actions. That was the most instantly idiotic thing I've heard. I stand by what I said about the Expanse being awesome. Even Doom Cock likes it and he busted Infinity War's chops.
'The worst character in Star Wars'...? We're thinking of the same Star Wars franchise right? The one with Jar Jar Binks in it? I mean, at least people debate whether Holdo's actions were moronic or not (personally, I'm of the opinion that Dameron was an impulsive moron at the beginning [just a matter of what I believe had more value in the engagement - a wing of bomber thingies and their crews, or one big ship out of hundreds], but Holdo didn't help the situation by holding her cards to her chest and acting arrogant, if I recall from the one time I've seen TLJ)... EVERYONE (above the age of 10, at least) agrees that Jar Jar Binks should have been outright removed (and the sad part is, Ep 1 would have rolled right on without him). TLJ had a shitload of bad or outright avoidable things in it, but I don't think that the characters were among them. But that's just me. It's a solid 6 on my scale - lots of visible potential, but too much of that was undercut by... stuff.
+KingHoborg I stand by what I said. I'm not saying Jar Jar was good. Yet compared to Holdo he is amazing. At least he had good intentions, tried to help, and it was okay to not like him. First point, Holdo was only in that film because Kathleen Kennedy didn't think women could relate to Ackbar. She killed off a fan favorite, because she didn't women could relate to a man, but thinks men can relate to women. Either she is a moron or a hypocrite. Maybe both. Not to mention Holdo is a stand in for Kathleen and is an embodiment of her toxic ideas. Second, Poe did nothing wrong. Yes he got downgraded from the last film and was turned into a punching bag. So was every other male in this story. Poe was right to blow up the dreadnought. Don't get me wrong, there are plot holes out the ass with how dumb the film is. As for Poe's actions, calling off the attack would have left the fleet, bombers, and fighters as sitting ducks for the First Order as they fell back. Also if that Dreadnought was still operational, the resistance would have been doomed after the jump. At least you admit that Holdo was a moron for withholding information. Poe wasn't beyond reason, and wouldn't have done the mutiny if he was informed. Third Hildo is the anti Leia. Think about it. Leia is everything a good female protagonist is supposed to be while Holdo is the opposite and a Merry Sue. Leia is willing to get into the trenches, explain things, put on a uniform, and lead by example. Holdo dresses up like a cocktail waitress not bothering to put on a unifrom, has flamboyant hair, can't be bothered to act like a leader in general, and is an incompetent condescending armchair hack. She got more people killed than Poe did and had nothing to show for it. Despite getting more people kill for no reason the film still wants us to think she's not a douche. Some even suggestion that Leia and Holdo were "together." That is just a bonus bit of stupid. Fourth, to hate that character is to hate all women apparently. It is at least okay to hate Jar Jar. To hate Holdo is to be a sexist! Same thing applies to the others in this film. At least Jar Jar didn't hide behind a false virtue Shield. Fifth. Lucasfilm seriously try to make Holdo a role model. At least they didn't do that with Jar Jar. Holdo isn't fit to run a restaurant let alone a resistance. That is why I despise that character the most. L3 and Rose are also worse than Jar Jar too. Must I explain those two as well?
Left Foot Media made a great video responding to "How The Last Jedi Defies Expectations" and breaking down the problems with the statements made within. I would recommend watching it if you enjoyed this analysis.
Yeah, that's a good one. I saw it quite a long time ago now, but I recall that the summary of his argument against the video boiled down to "strawman" and "pseudo-psychology".
I think the creators of TLJ reconcile Aliens as a counterpoint by that Holdo is a figure with complete authority being challenged while Ripley was challenging authority. They could have made a movie about Rey challenging some alpha male fleet commander (maybe even Poe) who was in the process of screwing up. But they didn't because they specifically wanted the movie to be about a woman already in a position of leadership, being in full control and still being challenged. The message clearly is about 'don't challenge women when they're in a position of power'. That's the point they had to get across. Which only leads me to believe that Holdo has been Kennedy's proxy from the start. Holdo was her way of channeling her frustrations with being challenged while she was supposed to have all the power. And that betrays the way she sees power. Men accept that once they reach power, they're constantly being challenged for it. That comes with the position. But Kennedy firmly believes that once a person (preferably a woman) reaches a position of power, it's hers forever, to do with as she wishes. And these pesky individual thinkers that challenger her every step of the way need to be put in their place.
decentradical « Holdo was [Kennedy]’s way of channeling her frustrations with being challenged whilst she was supposed to have all the power » Which is freaking stupid, she isn’t even the senate and she thinks she has unlimited power ? Tss, shows how much she doesn’t understand SW :/
SamWallace Art Such a trash film, the only graces it has is the ridiculous amount of money they spent on visuals and special effects. The plot is so bad I’m surprised it got green lit, I’ve heard that it’s literally a first draft script that got submitted in, which would be the best possible excuse for the amount of bad writing in this whole film.
Just got to the possessiveness part with Quill. That whole section is bizarre. My husband and I have been married for 25 years this month. I totally belong to him and you better believe he belongs to me. Honestly if that isn’t the case, what’s the point of any of it?
Harry Potter reference. Give an elf -slave- servant clothes and they're free. This was Dobby's line when Harry slipped a sock in Riddle's diary that Malfoy handed to Dobby. Joke explained, now ruined. Mwahahahahah
Honestly i dont even think its disneys fault, it a problem with already existing charecters. I think the reason the mandalorian is a such a beloved show and highly revered is because its a disconnected story from the main lore. Same with rouge one to a scertain extent we really just get small details about a rouge squadron who stole the death star plans in ep4 no other real details
wait why do people site boromir as a instance of self sacrifice? He didnt go in guns blazing hoping to die for a cause and redeem himself through his death. He went into combat to protect Merry and Pippin and was actually doing fairly well for himself at first, hoping that this act of protection and overcoming his weakness to the ring might redeem him in his companion's eyes and allow him to continue. Even then, when he realized he was being overwhelmed he didnt shout for the hobbits to simply retreat while he stands against waves of uruks until his inevitable demise. He blows the horn of gondor, calling for aid from th others fully expecting to be able to fight everyone off if they can get there in time to help. It isnt until Lurtz pulls out his bow and shoots him that he even begins to waver, and from that point it isnt self sacrifice as much as it is a final stand as you're not ging to be able to just retreat with an arrow lodged in your chest and infantry charging you and the friends you are protecting down. Even then he survived two more arrows until finally dying to bloodloss where as if the party had arrived sooner the hobbits likely would have been saved and maybe he would have been alive. As dark and heroic of a moment that may have been, it wasnt one of self sacrifice as much as it was of determination being overwhelmed. Sorry might be...looking too far into a random moment just wanted to point that out....but to connect it back to the theme of the arguments, this scene would have had the same effect no matter boromir's gender or race
2:02:00 Didn’t they actually give a heroic sacrifice to Roses sister at the start of the Last Jedi.... *shakes head* when will these guys actually use the film they are “defending” to actually make proper arguments for this shit show of a film
Pretty sure pods have autopilots so you don't have to be a pilot to use them. We've seen people inside pods a couple of times in the cartoons and they didn't seem to have any mechanisms to pilot them. It's like a lifeboat, you don't need to be a trained sailor to sit inside one while you wait for help. It isn't shown in the movie but it is in other media that pre-dates it so take it for what you will.
I actually enjoyed a couple of Pop Culture Detective videos until I realized that they were absolutely nuts. They literally made videos claiming Harrison Ford movies promote rape and the Jedi promote toxic masculinity. Smh
I mean was it better to fight and battle at Edoras? Helms deep was known to be a great refuge to the people of Rohan. Had Saruman not made the bombs, helms deep wouldn't have fallen. Note how it took dozens of Uruk-Hai to attack a small fortress all of them would be busy trying to take their turns to go up the ladders along side charge the gates on a narrow pathway. Helms deep wasn't a defeat during the early and mid fights, note how they were entirely there to fight and hold the enemy until Gandalf arrives with help. Going to Helms deep wasn't a bad choice. If there was any other good choice please I'm more than welcome to hear it. Gondor can not send aid. Their spread out on all fronts against mordor. Rohan is on their own and that the other lands of Rohan is busy defending their lands and or preparing for war. Only other army out on the field is Eomer's exiled army. They turned defeat into a victory. Saruman lost even with great preparations.
Watching old EFAP and seeing the character development that some of the hosts have undergone is heartwarming. The progression toward more objective, rational, unbiased criticism-I love it
So a channel that dedicates itself to exploring the problematic tropes in films towards women praises a film for reducing its female characters to the exclusive role of facilitating male character arcs. Wow. Just wow. Viewing women as moral compasses for men has been highlighted by feminism for a long time that it is wrong. It is a combination of viewing women as a utility for men as well as the idea that women are pure. There is no way that McIntosh cannot possibly know this. Both the protagonist and the 40-year feminist icon were subjected to this sexist depiction, but I guess that's okay as long as it was done to highlight toxic masculinity? Astounding. If you have to sacrifice the very ideals you are fighting for to make your point, perhaps it's time to reconsider that point.
Ah. I guess I should order the men are troglodytes and women are virgin goddesses who must have their freedoms restricted in order to preserve their purity edition to catch up with the times then.
Now you are getting it! The funny thing is. Just like the thanos video was half right about the end of the world. Feminism is half right about patriarchy. They simply forget the gynocentric half...
Jane Hrahan except when it comes to defending themselves from accusations of misandry, in which case they’ll bring up the part of feminism/the feminists that points out how women make men’s live worse and how men’s desires to protect women make their lives worse.
I think the problem is just that all of this bs is just so interprative. All of this discussion of themes always turns out to be far too vague and malleable to be worth anything. Is the movie portraying the female characters as pure virgin goddesses? Or is it about toxic masculinity? Or is it about the unhealthy loyalty of soldiers to petty and domineering authority figures (holdo)? It can be any of those things. Imo it's obviously not to intended to be the last one, but given that Po was literally right... well you know.
Holdo acts like the evil headmistress of some boarding school, that usually gets dunked on at the end of a movie (or episode of a cartoon), yet she gets venerated as a self-sacrificing hero? She's worse than Thanos. Thanos at least just didn't get a science briefing; then again, someone thought it viable to give her the rank of Admiral. Someone with absolutely no leading capability in this small group of people. She being a traitor would have made more sense. For example being responsible for buying these cheap crap ass suicide bombers.
I don’t understand why they wouldn’t fear Finn being a mole, and not want to tell Poe because Poe trusts Finn against the judgement of his superiors. Then the resistance could have tried to jail Finn creating some more reason for Poe to be at odds with leadership. Simple.
Well of course Finn WOULDN'T be a mole, you just have a white guy suspect him of being a mole and then you can beat the audience over the head with how the white guy was wrong to make that assumption lol

The more people debate TLJ the longer it will keep it relevant...Johnson has already been on record for saying that if his film is divisive then its a good thing..thus stroking his ego. He made TLJ this way for this very reason. It doesn't even deserve debate. Its a shit film that needs to die dwelling in obscurity.
Sadly, because it is a cannon Star Wars film, it'll life on as long as Star Wars does. That's what irritated me the most about VII & VIII. I nearly walked out of VII (only didn't because I didn't go alone) and I knew while I was sitting there that I'd be hearing about this shit forever. The only hope now is that IX is so average and boring that it kills Star Wars. I can't wait to still be hearing about this trash when I'm 70. :|
I saw a comment on another video expressing a similar sentiment. I asked this guy what he thought of TLJ and he said that it's a movie that failed at everything it attempted to do and he wished people would stop talking about it so he could forget it ever happened.
It's really sad that people like you truly think Rian made this film the way he did because he's an egotist. You have absolutely no understanding of things that are clearly stated in the beginning of the video they're 'responding' to (read: half-assedly bashing). You're one of the violently entitled man-children.
Ok, thought experiment. We have 3 pairs of characters: Poe + Holdo, Fin + Rose, Rey + Luke Let's gender-bend this characters and see what will happen. Female-Poe + Male-Holdo. In this pair male-Holdo's behavior could be considered as sexist by McIntosh, Williams and others. ":Look, Poe is best pilot(ess) of Resistence, but this musculine manspreading admiral underrates her just because Poe is a female, not male". Female-Fin + Male-Rose. Same as pair #1, but also because of the scene whene Rose knocks out Fin with taser male-Rose could be considered as violent, abusive and (possibly) as a rapist. Male-Rey + Female-Luke. Already in TFA, male-Ray would be called the exemplar of stupid power fantasy for young white males (especially if Kaylo was female from the beginning). In TLJ what male-Rey do with female-Luke on "sacred island" may be called as harrasment and manspreading with an act of violence right before male-Rey leaves to meet with Kaylo. Of course, it's all hyperbolization, more or less, but it's clear that if we change genders of this characters it may not affect how their stories goes, but at some point the whole contexts of theirs interractions may also be reversed if we assume that the gender of these characters matters. But if we look, for example, at the actions of Holdo, regardless of whether it's a female or male character, we still can say thay this character is really incompetent as senior officer of the fleet. I think it would be fair to say that opinion of a particular character of TLJ is highly dependent on the viewer's or critic's agenda. For McIntosh Holdo is a positive character because she is a woman and not as a result of evaluating her actions without regard to her gender.
Of course they would reee if we swapped the gender. Its always like that with sjw cunts - they are as sexist and racist as any other human being but they pretend to not be in order to prop up their politics.
To play devils advocate with the dreadnaught, one could argue that because of the vast difference in manpower and resources between the small band of fleeing rebels and the first order that the tradeoff wasn't worth it, thought hat still doesn't address the fact the dreadnaught may well have been able to pierce their shields from range when they were tracked. Or answer how the first order got to its galaxy conquering size.
The Time Dilation Podcast. Turning 40 minutes of video into 5 and a half hours! Magic! Also you've said the Last Jedi so much that youtube always offers the whole movie for sale for 3 bucks beside all your videos.
There needs to be a "How it should have ended" for TLJ where, after Rose stops Finn, the laser just obliterates the base and kills everyone in it. Then Finn just turns to her and say "Well, the thing we hate just obliterated everything we love, so...."
Im trying to work on my own comic story of TLJ, but i feel i want to go further and actually just re-do the entire sequel trilogy. Working from Lucas' ideas the little things ive heard of. Im looking into as much EU lore as possible to draw inspiration from. Ive been watching many oldskool Kung Fu movies that have the 'Master & Student' trope running through them to give me ideas. Ive watched documentaries on Starwars, Empire of Dreams especially. Trying to gain a deep understanding of the very historic figures, elements and mythologies that inspired George Lucas. Im hearing alot of talk that Rian Johnson basically set out to make a deconstructive Starwars movie, and to make us think about how we view Starwars as long time and loyal fans. Ive been looking at so many differing views and opinions, of feminists on articles like Vanity Fair that hail TLJ as the first Feminist Starwars movie. Of Reylos and their cynical views, saying things like the character of Rey is actually a satire of Star Wars fans. I seek to create a story, using the existing characters JJ created - Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, Phasma and Snoke, because their design and look is very Starwars, its just to me they all come across as either, flat, empty, and devoid of any character development whatsoever especially Rey. But i seek to keep Rey the main character, but give more focus to Finn, to work from their chemistry and how they met in TFA which did feel positive and nice to me. But i want the OT characters of Han, Leia, Luke and Chewie to have much more relevance in the new story of Rey. I would like to explore the idea of Rey and Kylo both once being Luke's students, but giving them real problems, flaws and obstacles they have to overcome. I want to delve into the backstory of what happened throughout the 30 years before the events of TFA. How the First Order came about, Snoke's origins, what happened with Han and Leia, and what led Luke Skywalker into exile, im still going with that but i have a fairly deep idea that i personally feel is much better than what Rian Johnson came up with, and i want Luke and Snoke to have a past, where they have either came across eachother before, but are definitely aware of eachother. Ultimately i aim to handle the OT characters with respect and give Rey are real 'Hero's Journey', I want to 'empower' her too, but i dont want her empowerment to come at the cost of upstaging all the other characters. I want to create a very deep and involving story, full of adventure, lightsaber battles, epic planetside and space battles, twists and turns that sticks to the traditional elements of Starwars, that is rich in mythology, and that has a focus on father's and sons, daughter's and their mother, 'parents and children', basically 'Family'. My goal is to create a story of Episodes 7, 8 & 9 in a comic form, and i have a strong desire to 'deconstruct' the very social, political themes that JJ. Abrams and Rian Johnson have been so obsessed with in this Disney sequel trilogy they have created. And i aim to do all this before Episode 9 releases next year.
Thankyou, any ideas you have would be most useful, its all in the the early stages right now. Im still at the mythology stage right now and just doing research, before i even put pencil to paper. But i will need all the help i can get, especially artists and people who have skill at writing dialogue. Id like as many fans help as possible, they have some great ideas.

McIntosh on Twitter back in July, for more context on where he sees Luke's character after XI, leading into the sequel trilogy: "A handful of The Last Jedi haters in my mentions are offering up a fascinating misreading of the final showdown between Luke and Vader in RotJ. I think it's worth taking a moment to discuss because it may help explain why these guys hate Luke’s character so much in Episode VIII (Pictured: GIF of the milk-chugging scene from TLJ) The misreading: Luke Skywalker uses his great warrior skills to defeat Darth Vader. Once he’s proven himself in combat and stands victorious, Luke does the honorable thing by showing mercy and sparing his enemy. Thereby saving himself from corruption and redeeming his father (Pictured: GIF of Luke saying "You're gravely mistaken") What really happened: Luke tries to avoid fighting but gives into anger. As he bests Vader in combat, Luke realizes his great mistake, winning this fight means losing his soul to the Dark Side. The battle itself is corrupting him, understanding this Luke throws away his weapon (Pictured: GIF of Luke looking at his robotic hand and back to his father in horror) Notice that the misreading (above) reframes Luke as a badass warrior and reframes his refusal to kill Vader as an act of mercy stemming from a position of power. This is significant because Luke beating Vader in combat is explicitly depicted as a moment of weakness NOT strength. (Pictured: Continuation of the GIF from the last tweet) The desire of some fans to re-imagine Luke as a powerful warrior who spares the bad guy out of benevolence is consistent with the way male heroes are often represented. It’s the way Batman is framed when he doesn't kill The Joker. But Luke Skywalker isn’t the typical action hero. (Pictured: GIF of Christian Bale's Batman threatening a mugger) Luke’s arc in the original trilogy ends with him not only refusing to kill the bad guy, but refusing to even fight a worse villain. This is why Luke’s force projection standoff with Kylo in The Last Jedi is so perfect. It's the ultimate expression of everything Luke has learned. (Pictured: GIF of Luke tossing the lightsaber in TLJ) The fact that an iconic figure like Luke Skywalker was explicitly framed as *weak* for fighting a murderous villain like Darth Vader is a pretty subversive message, especially for a male hero in Hollywood. And it’s something that, 35 years later, some fans still refuse to accept. (Pictured: GIF of Luke reclined against a tree, looking at the force ghosts of Ben Kenobi, Yoda and his father)." Rian Johnson himself remarked that he found this analysis illuminating, with McIntosh saying that he's considering printing out and framing Johnson's tweet of approval.
Imagine his reaction to Mirai Nikki, Deadman Wonderland, Berzerk, Fist of the North Star, Corpse Party, Blood C, Elfen Lied, Parasyte, Baccano, or Is this a zombie.
44:30 Perfectly legitimate point and not sexist at all. At the hospital I work at, we sometimes get...unsafe patients. People detoxing from various substances, the violently mentally ill, people with severe brain injury that causes them to have a warped view of reality, etc. There are also more inoccuous things like dementia, suicide watch, and moderate confusion. In those cases, for the safety of the patient and staff, we have to put an observer in the room. If the patient is violent or unstable, especially if they're male, the order will *very* specifically call for a male observer. It's not sexist to realize that a deranged, 6'2" 220lb drug addict going through withdrawals can NOT be handled by a 5'4" 135lb twenty-something girl. To try to force such a situation in favor of diversity and equality puts the patient, the observer, and potentially anyone nearby at great risk. I would imagine the same goes for guards in male prisons, high-risk unarmed security, and other professions. We're a sexually dimorphic species and women, on average, are weaker than men. Welcome to reality, enjoy your stay.
Being too kind can be a character flaw...thing is you have to actually have consequences for it though. Rei being kind in the new star wars movies hasn't had any negative consequences that I can remember so I can't buy into it as a flaw. If theoretically her kindness had gotten some rebels killed then maybe.
4:27:34 - Villain Protagonist is a legitimate trope. Its usage is arguably somewhere between negligible and nonexistent, but it does exist. Example: "House of Cards."
2:18:10 But Winnie the Pooh DID work together with Shrek and Donkey. It's just that their goal was to smash the crystal ball on the Supremacy so they could escape. Poeh sent Shrek and Donkey off on another whirlwind adventure to find Puss 'n Boots who could get them into the Seer Chamber, but they ended up settling for Sir Hiss. Lord Farquaad was the one who ultimately killed the Emperor.
Finn was never enlisted into any official military branch of “The Republic” nor did he ever volunteer to join the militia-like faction calling themselves “The Resistance.” When Rose forcefully prevents Finn from leaving by tasing him she’s assaulting him, kidnapping him, & coercing him to join a military faction against his will. In all likelihood Rose has good intentions as we can see that she firmly believes that her faction is “doing the right thing,” but she is clearly not a good person as her actions are evidently authoritarian, manipulative, & violent. Later on in the film during the military conflict on Crait between The First Order and The Resistance Rose elects to sabotage Finn’s attempt to neutralize the Super-Laser mobile cannon by crashing her own speeder into Finn’s speeder. Again we can clearly see the good intentions behind Rose’s actions as this maneuver did preserve Finn’s life, however it also doomed the remnants of The Resistance to certain death. Directly following this moment, when Finn asks her why she prevented him from saving the remnants of The Resistance she justifies her actions with an illogical philosophical statement about prioritizing “saving what we love, not killing what we hate.” Directly following this statement she kisses Finn without his consent while he is distracted by the explosive destruction of The Resistance’s defensive structures. The way Rose’s character interacts and affects the story around her is analogous to how a stick that has been inserted into the spokes on the wheel of a moving bicycle affects the rider of that bicycle. Rose has not demonstrated intentional evil intent, but her inability to set aside her emotional desires during military conflict makes her an obvious and extremely massive liability to the entire “Resistance” war effort. When the fate of The Free Galaxy supposedly depends upon the continued existence of “The Resistance” war effort against The First Order, level-headedness and rationality must supersede irrational and emotional behavior.
Regarding not expecting a woman to call out a man for cowardice, that was a HUGE thing in the 19th and early 20th century, where women went around shaming men for not enlisting in the military. They've written stories and made movies about it.
So, I'm rewatching from the beginning and the Abuse = Love thing has got me feeling weird. One of my best friends literally grew up believing this, having been horribly abused by her father and eventually coming to see the miniscule amount of attention she got from him through his abuse of her as love and being neglected as her being a failure in some capacity and therefore not worth his love. Probably super unrelated. Just popped into my head watching this.

What if Rose was the mole this whole time? They go to Canto Bite and releasing the animals is actually because she needed to get people supplying resistance equipment to despise them. Then on Salt planet she rams Finn to stop him so resistance will die. Rose does everything in her power to destroy the resistance.

This actually explains a lot. Also explains his video on Military Recruitment and Hollywood.

I never heard of him until 5 days ago- and even then, I didn't notice his name until yesterday. My dad had to work security the day after those towers went down, about 5 city blocks away. He had to were a mask to get through the ash and he was 61 years old and had to travel back to Long Island. Granted, he was an NYC Police Lieutenant prior, but he never came home crying like a bitch

Well said.

That's very well said!
I love you
This is an amazing analysis. Far better than anything that could come out of Ruin and hia groupies wannabies could ever come up with.
"or it is least literally damaged."-Ash. Literally is a bit redundant in this context!
"But he's a man and he's the main character, therefore bad."
The extent of McIntosh's reasoning.
The social justice defense of the last jedi is very odd to me, seeing that the movie relegates it's two minority characters to a completely useless D story where the accomplish a) setting 8 giant space donkeys free b) cause death of the majority of the resistance
You're cherry-picking a single example that looks SJW -related if you squint.

Just as long as you admit it... Bigot.

Criticism of the Last Jedi need not extend beyond the most basic to condemn it. It's a tonally-and thematically-deaf film. Like the story was randomly thrown together ad hoc.

Has everyone forgotten Teminator? In where someone who was being chased by a killing machine had to be protected by a guy and she had to learn how to protect herself because he knew he couldn't keep it up forever because of how outmatched *they* were.
Iron man has. No other character has.

If you think something is inappropriate for your kids, don't let your kids consume it. If someone else thinks their kids can handle it, that's their assessment to make, not yours. Raise your own children as you see fit, but extend others the same courtesy.
i love beating my children it builds character whatever doesnt kill them makes them stronger

Mikey hated Infinity War because in his eyes, Thanos winning makes it seem that he is justified and right about everything he does.

Problem is, if the Dreadnought had survived, it would have been able to take out the Rebel fleet right after the Hyperspace jump.
I would recommend watching it if you enjoyed this analysis.
just saw it :)
And these pesky individual thinkers that challenger her every step of the way need to be put in their place.
decentradical very perceptive. There was definitely some projection
Yes blindly follow authority theirs a good disney customer

I just love this back and forth over TLJ, it's brilliant and pathetic at the same time.
The movie was a misfire that triggered a mesmerizing dumpster fire in the meta.
Honestly if that isn’t the case, what’s the point of any of it?

wait why do people site boromir as a instance of self sacrifice?

Didn’t they actually give a heroic sacrifice to Roses sister at the start of the Last Jedi.... *shakes head* when will these guys actually use the film they are “defending” to actually make proper arguments for this shit show of a film
Holdo and Paige Tico both got heroic sacrifices. Finn was technically following the lead of the women around him.
it's only an heroic sacrifice when it's done by a woman, if it's man, it's toxic masculinity. Macintosh is very inconsistent.
how would Finn have driven the escape pod? hes no pilot.
Smh
1:00:00 Going to helm's deep was not a good choice on Theoden's part because a lot of people died defending it.
Lol ya. By McIntosh's logic, the Battle of Helm's Deep was a defeat because so many people died during the battle.
Eisenhower also messed up because his commands during WW2 resulted in a lot of Allied deaths. /s

You see the problem is you are thinking of pre patriarchy theory liberal feminism... the one that thought both women and men were people.
Does John not know that at that moment Rose didn't know Luke was coming or that there was no other way out of that cave?

Holdo acts like the evil headmistress of some boarding school, that usually gets dunked on at the end of a movie (or episode of a cartoon), yet she gets venerated as a self-sacrificing hero? She's worse than Thanos. Thanos at least just didn't get a science briefing; then again, someone thought it viable to give her the rank of Admiral. Someone with absolutely no leading capability in this small group of people. She being a traitor would have made more sense. For example being responsible for buying these cheap crap ass suicide bombers.
Holdo is the most formidable villain of the sequel trilogy. She singlehandedly broke the resistance from the inside.
I don’t understand why they wouldn’t fear Finn being a mole, and not want to tell Poe because Poe trusts Finn against the judgement of his superiors. Then the resistance could have tried to jail Finn creating some more reason for Poe to be at odds with leadership. Simple.
But Finn is black! Can't make the minority a bad guy, has to be a white dude.

Oh im with you there! It needs to die.

It's really sad that people like you truly think Rian made this film the way he did because he's an egotist. You have absolutely no understanding of things that are clearly stated in the beginning of the video they're 'responding' to (read: half-assedly bashing). You're one of the violently entitled man-children.
Could you imagine the outrage if there was a movie with the "theme" of men putting women in their place in this environment.
That would be very funny though, specially because of the current environment.
I feel like “Dexter’s Diner” could work like a Star Wars version of Cheers.
^This. A million times.

"If we kill the enemy, they win!"

and 21 minutes later, rags - "summoning lightning from the sky is not out of character for Rey's power level"
Lemme know if i can help at all as I would be delighted to aid u in some way.

McIntosh on Twitter back in July, for more context on where he sees Luke's character after XI, leading into the sequel trilogy:
"A handful of The Last Jedi haters in my mentions are offering up a fascinating misreading of the final showdown between Luke and Vader in RotJ. I think it's worth taking a moment to discuss because it may help explain why these guys hate Luke’s character so much in Episode VIII (Pictured: GIF of the milk-chugging scene from TLJ)
The misreading: Luke Skywalker uses his great warrior skills to defeat Darth Vader. Once he’s proven himself in combat and stands victorious, Luke does the honorable thing by showing mercy and sparing his enemy. Thereby saving himself from corruption and redeeming his father (Pictured: GIF of Luke saying "You're gravely mistaken")
What really happened: Luke tries to avoid fighting but gives into anger. As he bests Vader in combat, Luke realizes his great mistake, winning this fight means losing his soul to the Dark Side. The battle itself is corrupting him, understanding this Luke throws away his weapon (Pictured: GIF of Luke looking at his robotic hand and back to his father in horror)
Notice that the misreading (above) reframes Luke as a badass warrior and reframes his refusal to kill Vader as an act of mercy stemming from a position of power. This is significant because Luke beating Vader in combat is explicitly depicted as a moment of weakness NOT strength. (Pictured: Continuation of the GIF from the last tweet)
The desire of some fans to re-imagine Luke as a powerful warrior who spares the bad guy out of benevolence is consistent with the way male heroes are often represented. It’s the way Batman is framed when he doesn't kill The Joker. But Luke Skywalker isn’t the typical action hero. (Pictured: GIF of Christian Bale's Batman threatening a mugger)
Luke’s arc in the original trilogy ends with him not only refusing to kill the bad guy, but refusing to even fight a worse villain. This is why Luke’s force projection standoff with Kylo in The Last Jedi is so perfect. It's the ultimate expression of everything Luke has learned. (Pictured: GIF of Luke tossing the lightsaber in TLJ)
The fact that an iconic figure like Luke Skywalker was explicitly framed as *weak* for fighting a murderous villain like Darth Vader is a pretty subversive message, especially for a male hero in Hollywood. And it’s something that, 35 years later, some fans still refuse to accept. (Pictured: GIF of Luke reclined against a tree, looking at the force ghosts of Ben Kenobi, Yoda and his father)."
Rian Johnson himself remarked that he found this analysis illuminating, with McIntosh saying that he's considering printing out and framing Johnson's tweet of approval.
Mikey wouldn't be able to handle most mainstream anime, if he's so repulsed by violent content.

The main lesson in the Last Jedi is that men aren’t allowed to be heroes.

Finn was never enlisted into any official military branch of “The Republic” nor did he ever volunteer to join the militia-like faction calling themselves “The Resistance.”
When Rose forcefully prevents Finn from leaving by tasing him she’s assaulting him, kidnapping him, & coercing him to join a military faction against his will.
Directly following this moment, when Finn asks her why she prevented him from saving the remnants of The Resistance she justifies her actions with an illogical philosophical statement about prioritizing “saving what we love, not killing what we hate.”
Directly following this statement she kisses Finn without his consent while he is distracted by the explosive destruction of The Resistance’s defensive structures.
Poseidonc12 no, when Rose tases him, she’s preventing unauthorized use of the escape pods
Yeah while he has every right to want to leave no military is just going to let you take their assets without permission. So he should have asked.
