    • @meltingkrayons5830

@@xxraddude3621 not exactly accurate - Yoda never tries to convince Luke to kill Vader specifically - he just tells him to confront him... he wants Luke to help topple the Empire. You could infer Obi-Wan telling him to in the sense that Luke says "I can't kill my own father" and Obi-Wan says "then the emperor has already won" - so this isn't really countless... it's 1, maybe - but I also think you are missing the point. The Jedi aren't against killing "under any circumstances" - they are specifically against 1. killing out of passion/anger/fear or for your own selfish gain, and 2. killing unarmed opponents who have surrendered, are incapacitated, or are not a current threat. The Obi-Wan implication could simply be chalked up to the fact that he couldn't envision a scenario where Vader and the Emperor surrendered or were beaten without being killed.
The Jedi are not against violence/killing in scenarios of defending others, self defense, or in the midst of ongoing combat. Luke considering killing his nephew out of fear, preemptively because of a vision (always in motion is the future), against a sleeping, unarmed, and not currently hostile "opponent" is directly against the Jedi ways. This seems to me fairly consistent with what we see from Jedi in episodes 1 through 6...

TLJ bombers are great; they are capable of decimating a dreadnaught with a single payload. They only sacrifice speed, long distance payload delivery, durability, maneuverability, and the capacity to survive the destruction of their target. Just every aspect of a bomber that allows it to survive to deliver the bombs and then get out alive...

    • @isaiahlee2902
      @isaiahlee2902 5 років тому +159

They are amazing! They don't even need landing gear; they just sit on their bomb bays, giving ground maintenance crews cancer, and get toppled after a single burst of wind and explode. Also, if they crash land, they land on the bomb bay, and because the bombs are built to explode under literally any physical trauma, it explodes. Also, a Battlefield 1 Kolibri has taken down an entire squadron of these bombers with only one shot. Also, a Battlefield 1 Gas Mask has taken down an entire fleet of these bombers simply by putting the Gas Mask on. Also, an entire armada of these bombers was taken down by simply existing and spontaneously exploding. No faulty electronics, no fire, no explosions, no bullets no trauma. They just died by existing.

I mean, she could do tons of things Luke couldn’t do, even when he had training. If she had actually trained to receive her powers, then people would also understand why she’s so powerful. Just by watching Qui-Gon, Padme and Jar Jar walking into Mos Eisley, or looking at the audience in the pod racing arena, or examining the underwater city of the Gungans, you'll see more creative designs and locations than all three parts of the Disney Trilogy combined. Fun fact, The Phantom Menace ALONE used more practical effects than the entire Original Trilogy put together so those who complain about too much CGI are talking out of their arses, especially since they often mistake the practical effects for CGI.

When in first watched the trailer and heard Luke to say "The Jedi need to end" I first thought that he would later mention the existence of other organizations aside from the Jedi and the Sith that use the force: the Aing'tii monks, the Baran Do, the matukai and Alpheridies, the Kro Var, the Black Guard and even the witches from Dathomir. Why the hell isn't there a tiny bit more humanity shown in the First Order? We have kids who were taken by effectively what amounts to Space Wizard Cult, and made to participate in massacres or be shot for insubordination.
Finn had friends in the First Order. One of them died in his arms. But as soon as he becomes a turncoat, he's blasting away happily at his former squadmates.
*"DID YOU SEE THAT!?* *_DID YOU SEE THAT!?"_*
We're shown that he's not an exception to troopers with no free will. Others think for themselves. ("Traitor!" Sounded like real anger from that faceless mook.)
So that at least gives him some ground in not being a borderline lobotomized human droid, but I find it difficult to believe that he'd be the "Quirky comic relief goofball boi" So soon after escaping from the only thing he's ever known after witnessing one of his friends and dozens of innocent people die, along with his new friend presumed KIA in his eyes for most of the movie.
Nope, he gets starry-eyed for a random girl he meets (and tries to defend her from some thugs, despite probably being raised to see rats in the dust like her as below him) and they go off on an adventure together.
He has _no_ qualms with working with Han Solo. Instead of saying "Wasn't he a war hero?" He should have been the one pointing out that he's a scummy smuggler, considering he would have been raised to see him, the Alliance, and The Jedi as evil.
Sure, he'd get over it. But it'd take time. Spouting hateful rhetoric, then correcting himself.

Rey’s parents being nobody is a distinction without a difference. Sure, her ancestry doesn’t matter… but that doesn’t show that a hero can come from anywhere. It shows us that some people are just randomly born better than others, for no reason. They’re more moral, more powerful.

Here is how you know you can't take this guy seriously. I've listened to half of his SW8 video and by the hope he places on it, he should logically hate SW9, seeing as Abrams and Johnson completely disagreed on every subject in this story. Nope. Lee likes SW9, too. He concedes that he needed to watch it three times to love it, but he calls it just as amazing as SW8.
... That's just not possible. You can't fight this hard supporting Rey being "the child of nobodies" and then turn around and enjoy her being Palpatine's granddaughter. You can't hope this hard that Ray and Finn will inspire a new generation of force users and rebels, and then when that doesn't happen, not be disappointed. You can't wish for Star Wars to be new and different and then have this trilogy end fighting Palpatine and not be dismayed.

For 2 god damn years, every time I argued that TFA was bad because Rey was a Mary Sue, everyone was just like “Trust me, the next movie will explain why she’s overpowered, she’s probably Obi-Wan’s daughter. Trust me, it’ll make sense in the next movie.” And then they won’t listen to me when I say that, that’s no excuse, because the explanation should have been in TFA, and they just wouldn’t let me speak.
Now, after TLJ came out, all of those same people were like “No, it’s SO brilliant that her parents were nobodies, you CAN’T sit here and pretend like you don’t like it!” And then they ignored the rest of my criticisms.
TLJ was so awful, that it proved me right from over those two years, but it blue balled me, preventing me from rubbing it in a bunch of asshole’s faces.

    • @papershadow

@Revan One of the most textbook ideas of courage is facing up to something that frightens or has hurt you, and doing so even acknowledging that. Luke was on edge during the Death Star infiltration and assault, and Vader was clearly a villain he feared on some level and was scarred by.
Comparatively, what does Rey honestly have to fear and what does she walk into of her own volition? Almost every conflict in TFA is something she's roped into: The TiEs on Jakku, the First Order attacking Maz, Kylo kidnapping her, being cornered in the Snow Woods. TLJ meanwhile has her walk into the enemy base because she's just so damn sure Kylo will protect her (pretty baselessly given the films) and with essentially no fear or concern for her life. Even in RotJ, Luke was shaken by the Emperor's goadings and ultimately walked into the confrontation assuming they'd all be dead in the scenario he envisioned.
Meanwhile, Rey has basically nothing to fear or be intimidated by. She wins against the mooks, shoots out the Stormtroopers, and succeeds at using mythical Jedi Mind Tricks within hours of learning they exist and trying them. She hands herself to the Supremacy because she's beaten Kylo before, she has basically no reason to be afraid of him with the movie info presented (compare Finn who could be intimidated since he got soundly beaten and nearly crippled for it). Rey is like that video game character who over levels before critical boss fights but then only gets into trouble because of scripted cutscenes, the kind of scenarios fans joke (good natured or otherwise) about as segregation between gameplay and story, except this is a movie in which that disconnect shouldn't exist.

Wait until season 2." A strong competently made thing should be able to stand on it's own. It should be good without saying "well its better than x" or "its not supposed to be special because it builds up to y". It shouldnt need outside sources to "help it look good". That's like saying "Keep your hand on the stove. Eventually your nerves will burn away and the pain will stop".

Luke learned about the force, started to believe it, and was able to achieve this small, but somewhat miraculous feat by the end of a new hope. Rey literally didn't believe in the force, but she still starts out with a whole suite of force powers. When Obi wan uses the Jedi mind trick, it's really clear that he's a well-trained and old wizard using a mysterious power. When Rey does it, it's just time so matter-of-factly. Then you cut it up, and realize that while the toppings look fantastic, the dough underneath is uncooked, and between the two there is a thin layer of shit. Then you turn to the waiter, and he tells you "well, it's only 20% shit, the rest are not, so please give me a tip".
The funniest part? Apparently there are people out there who are so in love with the toppings that they eat the pizza and tip the waiter anyway, and then just blame everyone else for being snobs with "sophisticated palates" for not being able to enjoy raw dough and shit as a spice.

The theme of the Last Jedi is to do nothing. Seriously!
If Luke didn’t check on Ben Solo, then Ben wouldn’t be Kylo Ren
Snoke worked really hard to make the First Order, but he’s the bad guy for it. He’s also pointless
Holdo did nothing, then died, and she is a hero
Poe tried to take action and that was a mistake
Finn tried to take action by crashing into the laser and Rose had to save him
Rose and Finn went on a mission that they shouldn’t have gone on. They should’ve waited with Holdo
Leia advocates Poe to stop acting, and he is demoted for doing stuff
Rey does nothing really but she is extremely powerful
Chewbacca does nothing at all except fly the Millennium Falcon for Rey
Yoda doesn’t act until Luke tries to burn the jedi temple, in which he effortless destroys it so Luke can continue to do nothing.
Luke tries to fight, but does technically nothing by just sitting on a rock. Since this is hypothetically an action to take, he dies from the effort
These are themes that will last beyond our own lifetime. This movie is a masterpiece!

One of the biggest problems with Luke in Last Jedi is that he blames the Jedi for a mistake that HE made in opposition to what he was taught. Yoda was trying to teach Luke NOT to act impulsively based on premonition in Empire Strikes Back, so for Luke to lose faith in the Jedi over what he did is absurd. Luke considering killing Kylo was entirely on him, NOT the beliefs of the Jedi. If anything, Luke should feel like he isn't worthy to be a Jedi and that he failed those that came before him. Then again, considering how simplistic and childish his criticism of the Prequel-era Jedi was, I think it's likely that Luke was just looking for an excuse to be a coward rather than actually analyzing the Jedi in a meaningful way.

It is true that Yoda believed a Jedi should only use violence defensively, but that just isn't practical when you're in a war. The Prequels touch on the idea of the Jedi being pressed into a more militant role despite it going against their core philosophy, though I would agree that it isn't nearly explored as much as it could've been.

Do you know what I absolutely hate about avid The Last Jedi defenders? Nearly all of them reference that stupid "let the past die, kill it if you have to" scene in the movie, but then go on to praise a scene that they say is a better version of another scene from the original trilogy.
That's not exactly "killing the past," now is it? If anything, the past is the only reason why that "new" scene even exists, because they stole it.
Edit: Do you know what else I hate about these Last Jedi defenders? They keep linking the Jedi with general force users, as if they think that if the Jedi are wiped out, all force users in the universe will be wiped out, which is stupid to think because the Sith will still exist. What are the Sith? They're evil force users. Whether the Sith or the Jedi die doesn't matter, because force users will always exist. If the Jedi and Sith's "ancient religion" dies, then another force will take it's place. Whether it is religious, political, or social, so long as there is one group opposing the other, then war is inevitable, and you can damn well be sure that the Jedi and the Sith will be a part of it.

AOTC spend too much time with it though and of course it could have been done a lot better. On the other hand Han and Leia is hardly a masterfully crafted romance plot in the OT either, but it is more focused and shorter overall which is undoubtedly in its favor

1:56:00 The thing about Goblin Slayer is that it is a hard M-rated dark fantasy story about the reality of a D&D like setting where there are Always Chaotic Evil creatures like goblins running around, that can completely fuck up (more often than not quite literally) entire villages and small towns, but the "adventurers" don't really do anything about them, because killing goblins doesn't bring them the same fame and fortune as slaying dragons. In other words, it's a crapsack world where the ones without power are ravaged by monsters, and the ones with power do not care, because they consider doing so beneath them, leading to a cycle of suffering.
Now, the real reason why it got infamous is because Crunchyroll fucked up big time, presuming that it was just another cutesy saccharine Isekai based on the art direction, and then gave it a TV-PG rating, advertising it alongside said fluffy isekai stories. To say that the whiplash was intense once the decoy-protagonists were murdered and raped by goblins would be a bit of an understatement.

Making it out to be a very bad thing. With Goblin Slayer punishing the creatures for their evil deeds. Oh yeah and mother's basement one issue he took with it. Is some people might get off to it and that is why it's bad as a moment in the show.

That's something he can use to stand out and make himself out to be more important than he really is. I suspect it comes from a deep-seeded insecurity. His video's title may be "The Last Jedi is amazing and you're all insane." But, what he really means is: "I am amazing and you're all insane." That's what I get out of it, anyway. Based on the evidence presented, that's what I'm guessing. When it was asked, "Who's this guy trying to convince?" I think the answer is "Himself."
