During the response time section please ignore the Avg Total Response figures for the Normal overdrive setting at 85 and 60 Hz. These numbers (over 20ms) are inaccurate due to one transition in both captures that was incorrectly recorded as being over 600ms.

I purchased this monitor a month ago at $899 and it has been the best monitor I've owned. Once properly calibrated with i1 Display Pro to generate a color profile, it has been a joy to use. There was very little tweaking that needed to be done, so it's more about getting a color profile generated for your PC than it is about adjusting the monitor. It's biggest issue is the edge lit dimming. That said, PC HDR in general needs work and the only time I'm using HDR is for console gaming. If you are only planning to use the monitor for gaming, there are better options, but if you are like me and need a monitor that can be used for productivity and gaming, this monitor is the best balance between the two.

Problem with these high end screens is that its almost as costly as the alienware or asus oled screens...And then im like, whats the point. No point in anything high-end non-oled. In Denmarks crazy as usual prices its almost 1200 dollars.

@@Djuntas LCDs at higher prices are there to serve as alternatives, even if the value proposition is outright garbage. Some people cannot stand OLEDs simply due to burn-in and even suffer migraines with PWMs that OLEDs use. Unfortunately I am within the minority that suffers significant eye strain and headaches when using anything with a oled panel for 30-60 mins and I am only 20 years old. Using oled while it has a amazing picture quality, I cannot deal with it as part of my daily driver, regardless what of the brightness it is set to, or the frequency the oled panel is set to. Having more options is great that caters to other people such as IPS black technology, mini led, and in the far future micro led will become a great alternative to OLED.

@@davidj2473 You have this issues in productivity cases, aka documents and text I assume or? I totally get such uses cases then, but I think burn in is overrated at this point, as long as you take some percussions. I mean dell etc gives 3 year warranty, thats quit good.
Oled should be the best for eye sight, at least my oled TV was plastered from LG with reviews from some german test org ^^ Flicker free etc.

@@Djuntas Fair enough, it would take a fortunate but brain dead individual to not take precautionary measures for burn-in (Screen saver, no taskbar, no folder icons on desktop, etc.) I did try the AW3423DW and I love it!
However, I returned it due to having serious migraines when using it for only an hour. It had nothing to do with the text fringing, but rather just the nature of the technology when using it for both productivity and gaming for less than an hour (PWM @175hz) , it is a pain in the ass to deal with. Compared to using my LCD XG27AQ, I can do both gaming and productivity all day if I wanted to with no serious psychological or physiological issues (Besides factoring relieving eye strain with the 20/20/20 rule and breaks/exercise).

I had the opportunity to review this monitor and i can confirm this review is spot on. Sadly my unit had a lot of backlight bleed on the bottom corners which also washed out the darker colours at those parts of the screen. I therefore returned it. I think backlight bleed is non acceptable in 2022 on such an expensive monitor

I have been using this monitor for the past week and I love it (ok, agreed, I don't love the price like everyone else). I understand many people are comparing it to an OLED - if you want an OLED for HDR gaming and movies, go get an LG OLED at a good price! However, for those of us looking for a great IPS monitor for both work and play, this monitor is one of the best choices out there. 4K gaming looks so luscious and smooth on it, and I'm perfectly happy with SDR color for gaming.
BTW I have an LG OLED TV that is 5 years old. I sometimes connect my gaming laptop to it for gaming on the couch. When using the LG OLED, I actually prefer to switch off HDR/Dolby Vision and use SDR 4K on my Apple TV (plugged into the LG OLED) because the whites can get too intense. SDR has more natural-looking colors for movies. HDR is theoretically better for videophiles, but IMO, it may not be to everyone's taste.

People. Take my advice. No matter how good these specs appear, GO LOOK AT THE MONITOR YOURSELF AND MAKE SURE YOU DO TONS OF SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISONS BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE.
There was a time I was searching hard for a 4K monitor and I almost purchased the prior version of ASUS' PG32UQX, Thank goodness I never purchased it for when I compared it against many other monitors I was heavily disappointed with the image quality in terms of brightness, sharpness and level of black. In the end, I ended up purchasing an LG monitor that was half the price, slightly higher lag (though it's hard to tell even when I play Virtua Fighter which you need to play by the FRAME when played at a high level), but the image quality... Gosh damn, its so damn good. So yes. Don't always take this or any other video's word for it. If you can, go do some window shopping and spend a couple or a few hours to do some hardcore comparisons on the shop floor before making purchase.
Heck. When you at the store, gett them to hook up the monitor to something dedicated. Put it to a PC, bluray and console if you can. Do anything and everything so you can check everything before making purchase.
    Thank me later.

As someone who isn’t big into hdr (maybe cause I just haven’t had a monitor with good hdr) this is the best monitor I’ve owned. I upgraded from 1440p and just wanted a fast 32” IPS high refresh rate 4k monitor with clear motion, good colors and just overall great sdr picture quality. I’m happy. In a year or two when the 32 inch 4k oled market is better I’ll upgrade to that.

I think HDR is A) overly bright, and B) often over-saturated. But I appreciate the color gamut on HDR panels, _IF_ they're calibrated to not over-saturate or blind the user.
Basically I look to HDR screens as "well at least they _actually_ cover the whole color space of SDR". Which is to say that SDR is completely fine, excellent even, when the whole gamut is being covered. But too many SDR monitors fall drastically below claimed performance. Many mediocre HDR screens can actually do "good" SDR.
Once at 100% accurate SDR/sRGB, I don't care about the hypothetical maxes of HDR much. Just interested in response, input lag, black crush, back glow, etc. at that point.

      @kathrynck Рік тому +4

@@josh0156 They really are excellent. Best screen tech that there is I think. Apart from OLED which _still_ has significant burn-in risks. Which by default makes the tech in the Samsung's Neo's the best approach. Very nearly as pretty as OLED, but without the burn-in.
Personally I find the Neo's to be TOO curved though. I'm not really pro or anti curved screen. I have a modestly curved (1800R) 32" 1440p. But there are some pros & cons. If the Neo G7 had a more modest curve (and a more consistent curve across it's width), I would absolutely buy one. Especially if it was available in 42". On the other hand, if the Asus PG42UQ was truly "burn-in free" I'd absolutely buy that instead.
I'm kinda sitting on the sidelines, money in hand, waiting for the right 4k screen to be made. Best time to buy is black friday though, so hopefully a new model will come along by then.

Maybe at a similar price as well rather than straight costing £200 more for some reason. That would be nice. That Samsung Odyssey G7 still lacks a true competitor now 2 years on, it's getting ridiculous. Probably not though, from what I was reading this IPS black will be reversed for the high end 4k monitors, 1440p still gets washed out standard IPS. Starting to feel like we will be waiting 5 years+ for something to come along with the same benefits as the orginally Odyssey G7 without all the same downsides.

I currently own this monitor, and the thing that really bugs me for a monitor at this price point, is the fact that it does not have automatic input seeking. Like if you have multiple devices connected, and you turn one of them off, it will not automatically switch to the other connected device that's still on, and sometimes it has trouble sustaining more than one connected device so the display will sometimes just call it quits and give you nothing but a black screen (Hasn't happened to me in a while, but it does happen occasionally)

I have had it now for over a month using it as my daily driver and I am VERY pleased with it. This is really a great 4K monitor, perhaps the best 32" one right now - because I just can't tolerate that crazy aggressive curved screen of the Samsung Neo's. Yes HDR experience is lackluster, but I have found this really isn't something that bothers me. The screen is so freaking clear and bright (and fast) that I can live with any shortcomings. I don't use this exclusively for gaming but boy does it do a great job there when I do game. Fantastic job really, even for fast FPSers. The only thing I would say is wait for the $900 price point (which really is reasonable for a monitor in this class) to try this one out. You'll be very pleased with it.

The HDR monitor contrast such as that of the Samsung you compared it with actually make too much of a contrast. In actual usage, the white bright sections of the Samsung and other more expensive monitors , tend to be over bright and your eyes have a difficult time adjusting between the black blacks and the super bright if they're on the screen at the same time. Therefore I prefer this monitor at its hdr1000 even though I do wish it had more zones.

The fail condition for active cooling should be that the model has active cooling, rather than the active cooling in the review unit being subjectively inaudible. A lot of people are reporting the fan in their 32GQ950 (and other models) being annoyingly loud, so clearly there's variance from one unit to the next and/or some people are more sensitive to such noise than others. Furthermore, even if the fan is initially inaudible, it's likely to get louder and more annoying over time, as well as being the likely first point of failure in an otherwise good monitor.
